It took me a very, very, very long time to compose this review. Firstly, because I didn't want the young lady who waxed me to get in trouble, and secondly, because I never want to leave a review when emotions are high, especially for a small business. I'm cautious because I understand how crucial reviews are. However, the more I pondered on this experience, the more disappointed I became after the initial pain and hurt subsided. My first visit to Uni Wax last September was amazing. It was my inaugural wax experience, and the technician, with over 10 years of experience, was not only a pro but also made me feel comfortable since she knew it was my first time. During this appointment, I waxed my legs, bikini area, and underarms. It wasn't as painful as I anticipated. The two stars I'm giving are solely because she was amazing. Then, in February, I visited the Hoboken location. I didn't select or research the technicians; I assumed they'd all be as amazing as my first experience. I booked a bikini and underarm wax. Upon arrival, the greeting wasn't overly warm, but I didn't mind, understanding that people have bad days. However, I distinctly remember being struck by the absence of smiles. When asked who I booked with, I replied that I booked with anyone. A young girl then took me to the back. She seemed very nervous. She began with my underarms, and it was evident she didn't quite know what she was doing -- very timid movements. Trying to make small talk, I asked her how long she'd been there. She replied less than a month, and I was surprised, asking where she was before. She had just graduated from school. I then inquired how many clients she had seen, to which she replied I was her second customer. I considered leaving immediately, especially when I found the underarm waxing more painful than I anticipated. However, I understood that people need experience to grow. That was a mistake. When we reached the bikini area, I experienced the most excruciating pain I've ever felt since giving birth. It was so intense; I felt like I was going to pass out. It was incredibly traumatic, and I believe the technician was traumatized as well. She had no idea what she was doing, and I'm sure the other technicians heard my cries. What bothered me the most was that the team knew she lacked experience and still assigned her to take care of a customer. I don't blame her; I blame the team for not adequately training her. Even if they didn't know it was only my second time waxing, why assign an untrained technician to perform a bikini wax? I left, smiling through the pain, paid, tipped, and went home. To make matters worse, I ended up with the largest ingrown hair I've ever had near the entrance of my genital area. I couldn't sit down properly for a week; it was the size of a flipping cherry. That's why I know those few weeks were not a good time to write a review. My advice: train your new team members better. read more

I had my worse wax ever here! Jalpa did my Brazilian and i am still being haunted and traumatized . She waxed me over and over and over and over and over and over and over ....... In the same spots. I don't know how i refrained from not going off. I came there less than two weeks ago and the hair is already growing back , it itches so bad , i have ingrown and bumps. I really hope she did not damage my skin because my next option is to see a physician in regard to the trauma she caused. Idk why she has good reviews she's not good. I usually had Angelica but she doesn't work there anymore and she was amazing. If anyone knows where Angelica located to please let me know. I'll drive over an hour just to have her back. read more

I usually go to the Uni K Wax in Jersey City, so this was my first time coming to this location. Like their other locations, everything is spotless - clean, thermometer check, and social distancing was enforced - I felt very comfortable being there. A point was lost for me for the state of the facility. Since it's unavoidable to not stare at the ceilings, it's hard to not notice the damaged ceiling tiles above you. It's not terrible, but it definitely ruins the ambiance. The rooms are small and the beds are pushed against the wall which can be tricky for certain areas but it's doable. Finally, my technician Bhumika is the best! I only make appointments with her. Waxing is never painless - but she does such a good job that it's quick, doesn't have to go over multiple spots, and she's meticulous. Also love that a new pot of wax is used every time. I don't think double dipping is an issue when it's your own pot. read more

I decided to get waxed last minute and this location was able to take me last minute. Upon walking in the smell was very overwhelming nevertheless the customer service was great which caused me to just go with the flow. Jalpa was ready for me as soon as he came in which was 15 minutes before my scheduled time. She was very meticulous and made sure she removed all the hair. One thing I noticed about Uní K Waxer's is they don't converse with you to distract you from the pain that comes with waxing. After she waxed it all off she went in with a tweezer to ensure it was perfect. All in all it was a good experience. read more

Only reason I ended up here was because for some reason JC location is closed. This place is run down and looks dirty and the rooms are way too small. My waxer sucked, my hair grew back in a week. I would give 0 stars if I could. I often get Brazilian waxes and never had a problem before I went to Uni K Wax. Marcela did such a bad job waxing me, it still hurts 24 hours later. This wax took twice as long as it ever has, and hurt 3 times as much because she kept messing up when attempting to rip the wax off. She missed large patches and I'm very unhappy with the service. As far as the business itself, the rooms are very small and cramped. The tables are against the wall which make it uncomfortable to lay on. I also got some sort of allergic reaction which I don't think has ever happened to me, but every part of me that touched the table broke out in hives, not sure what that could be from. 0/5 stars read more

Worst uni k that I've been to. Had an 11am appointment, I got there 11:05am. Not only did I confirm my appt but what happened to a grace period ???? At 11:07am the front desk receptionist tells me that I have to wait until 11:30 to get waxed. I think absolutely not! LADIES!!!! Let me tell y'all!!!!!!! This IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU SHOULD BE GOING TO FOR WAXES!!! Girrrrrrrrlll when I tell you my kitty kat was smoother than a baby's bottom it's no lie!!! I did my legs and under my arms too last time and my skin has never been smoother. They do small patches so it doesn't hurt as much and I don't know what's in that green wax but it is amazing and hurts way way way less than everywhere else I've ever been to and I've been doing this for decades now. I will never go anywhere else!! HELPFUL TIP: it cost less to do packages so look online before you go because first time I went I ended up spending more on my legs and bikini and I coulda got my underarms done too for a tad bit cheaper. So check out their packages first so your informed. They ask you what services you want when u call to make the appointment so they know how long to schedule you for so definitely look online beforehand so u get the best bang out of your buck as they say. read more

I just want to start off by saying how amazing Jalpa is. However, I will never go back to a place where a receptionist laughs condescendingly to you over the phone as you explain why you're less than 5 mins late (childcare and no parking). The fact that if you're more than 5 mins late you will not get your service is absurd. Customer service is so important to any business in town. Life happens and to be laughed at because of running less than 5 mins late is unacceptable and I will never go back. read more

I wanted to love this, I did. My first experience was lovely and quick. My last Brazilian experience two weeks ago has left me with an assortment of problems and discomfort. Not only did the wax take twice as long, but the same areas were waxed over more than twice in some spots. Which is alarming that so many hairs were missed. The overall experience was uncomfortable and the current issues of hairs that weren't removed at the root is both annoying and anxiety provoking. I will now be making my trips uptown. read more

I'm only giving 2 stars because the first time I came in was a fine experience. The second time I came the woman was rushed, and missed a lot of spots. She didn't use powder or anything and used the same stick for wax. When you are charging the price you do for a service and spending the minimal amount of time, I expect it to be satisfactory. The first appointment as a walk in was exceptional with Arielle. Sadly they had let her go. I was amazed after 20 years of getting waxed how this wax was different. It did t hurt at all. BUT maybe was the technician expertise ... as the second time I went was AWFUL. This wax hurt. The technician was rushed. This service didn't have the multiple ointments applied. Her appearance was a mess. She got powder everywhere. And beyond anything I actually hurt way more than regular wax. Was reluctant to try this place b/c it's a chain but it's REALLY good. I had eyebrows done w/ Jalpa and she did a great job. Was hardly painful at all so i went back and had a bikini wax w/ Rhosana. There's no way that doesn't hurt but def not as bad as usual. Rhosana was great too. You get a fresh batch of wax for every appt...so sanitary! I'm a loyal European Wax Center patron, but I was really excited when Unik Wax opened up downtown because maybe they would be just as awesome and I wouldn't need to trek uptown. They weren't. I went for the free bikini line promotion because how can you turn that down? Here are all the reasons why I'll never go back. 1. At one point the woman waxing me held the piece of wax she had just ripped off in front of my face, and said, "isn't it cool how you can see the roots?" WHAT? That's disgusting! A professional would never ever do that. 2. My wax was way too hot. And I asked several times if there was something they could do about it and it was never fixed. The technician's solution was to hold the Popsicle stick in front of a strong blowing fan, causing the wax to drip all over the table I was on, as well as myself. 3. She got a good amount of wax on my underwear and I needed to throw them out when I got home. 4. It took FOREVER. It took way longer just to get waxed at Unik than it does for me to walk 11 blocks uptown, get the same amount of services at European, and walk all 11 blocks back downtown. 5. The tables are against the wall, so every time they need to get to your other side they have to climb over you. 6. She missed massive sections of my leg. Even with taking forever to wax them. So I ended up having to wax them myself anyway. 7. When I was paying, the woman at the front desk asked if I'd give them five stars. That's awkward. Especially after the level of service I'd just had. Save your time and money and just go uptown to European Wax Center. read more

I have been using uni k for over a year. I started waxing at the bay ridge location where I live. It has been there for a few years and is very popular. I now travel to Hoboken to follow one of the wax specialist I have always used for my service. Overall I am very satisfied with uni k's service and price. What I am especially pleased with is the customer service I have been provided. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, clean wax. I'd never gotten waxed before and I'd heard good things about UniKwax, so it was perfect when I stumbled upon their new location in Hoboken. Everyone was so friendly and made me feel really comfortable. The technician knew it was my first waxing experience, so she explained how the wax, itself, worked and dictated each step along the way so nothing came as a surprise. I'd previously been a UniK Wax loyalist because it's clean, professional, affordable and relatively painless so I was excited to see a location popping up in Hoboken. I've been to the Flatiron and Hell's Kitchen locations but maybe this rapid expansion is coming at a cost. I wasn't very impressed with my experience in the Hoboken location. The staff seems unenthused and wasn't very friendly but more disappointing are the sharp price increases. I was used to getting a full Brazilian in the front and nothing in the back for $29 and now it's $45 which is a dramatic increase. They should have done a step wise approach to raising prices so this increase wasn't so immediately jarring. I may switch to European Wax Center which is further away in Hoboken but now pretty price comparable and more painless in my experience. read more

I started going to Uni K about 6 months ago after trying every other waxing place in Hoboken and I am officially hooked. The staff is extremely welcoming and very helpful. They always make me feel comfortable and every wax is at the highest of qualities. The salon is always clean and neat, and everything is done in a professional manner.
