I like coming here to get my eyebrows done. They always come out really good. The ladies are nice and helpful with this service.

So I frequent this salon to get my eyebrows threaded. Always an amazing job. I usually go on my lunch break and it's never too busy. Today (Thursday July 17th at 1pm) I'm not sure what was happening but there was an extensive line. The threading artist was obviously practicing first come first served which Im used to. However the issue today was me getting pushed behind all of these customers who came in the shop AFTER me. Me being the only African American in there. Not saying it's a race thing, but let your brain paint whatever picture it needs. She then calls another person and I give a look of unsatisfactory and she says "you'll be next." Obviously I'm upset waiting there for 45 minutes already, and on my lunch break. I had to leave not only to get back to work but to keep myself from crashing out. I just think it's disrespectful to treat any guest this way but especially one who comes in every month for the last 3 years. Unfortunately that left a horrible taste in my mouth and I will never be back. read more

I'm very particular about my eyebrows. My go to eyebrow gal is in FiDi near my office. But since we haven't been going into the office, I haven't been able to get my brows threaded (I know, first world problems). I saw mixed reviews for Hot Looks but mostly good ones for Meena. I did something bold and decided to take a chance, since I figured - doesn't look like we're going anywhere anytime soon anyway. So if it's messed up, my brows will have time to grow out (like it did at the beginning of quarantine). I think Meena did an okay job. I only asked for a clean up, which she did - but it still looked a bit bushy. BUT I'd rather have it bushy than missing some spots; especially the hard to grow spots. The threading was also a lot more painful than I'm used to. I would probably come back if I'm in a pinch and need another clean up, but I don't think I would come for any major reshaping sessions. Might just need to make the trek out to the city for that. However, the henna looks like a fun thing to try so maybe I'll come back and check it out one day! read more

I was looking for someone who knows how to handle a Senior hairdo. I was told by a friend that her mom goes to Pamela & pays $40. I went to the salon to speak to Pamela, she seemed nice, I showed her pictures of what my does with her hair. She used a hairpiece so Pamela said $50. The following week I took my mom to the salon, she washed my moms hair which was good, she put on the hairpiece with small bobby pins instead of long ones so it did not stay on very good. I asked her for a twist in the back & she did it loosely. When I originally spoke to her, she said she would do what we want but was annoyed that we kept telling her how she likes it. She was finished & said she doesn't do it the old style way, she is more modern?? My mom decided to try her one more time, this time, Pamela didn't listen at all & asked for $60. She also made my 91 yr. old mother wait almost 1 1/2 hours to get her hair done. Why do you say 2:30 & then start doing her hair at 3:50pm?? Very unprofessional & you don't make a senior wait in a small salon that long, where was the compassion for seniors?? It is very disappointing & sad that anyone would treat someone like this. DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS PLACE AT ALL!! Response to the owner..... FACT, Pamela said she could do my moms hair, she couldn't, this is a fact, my mom went to her twice, VERY SAD! FACT, she charged $50 the 1st time & $60 the 2nd? Same thing was done & my mom brought her own shampoo the 2nd time. My suggestion is to not lie to people or take advantage of a 91 year old senior who was nice to even tip on a bad hairdo, god bless my mother & Good luck to your business! read more

I've gone here twice to have my eyebrows threaded and they do not disappoint! I would trust these ladies they do a great job shaping your brows and do not take too much off. The place I used to go to in Pittsburgh really hacked away at my eyebrows and randomly coming into this place I was obsessed with the results. I'm always so afraid of getting my brows done bc sometimes they are too rough and sometimes take too much off...but this was a great experience! She was so gentle and patient. She took her time to make sure I was comfortable and didn't rush. I asked her to just clean it up and she did it just how I wanted- kept the thickness of them but just shaped them up and gave me a nice arch $11 for eyebrow threading - great deal. I was recently told to switch from wax to threading. When I reviewed this salon I immediately called to make an appointment. The woman on the phone told me to come in whenever I want. It was 7pm on a weeknight and Google said they close at 7pm. It was so nice that she waited and still accepted me. This was my first time getting threaded and I have heard the pros and cons. She took her time reshaping my eye brows and yes it may have been uncomfortable for about 5 mins but I am in love with the work. I have been going back - they do a reward system for each service you get after x amount you get a free one. Very pleased with the threading service. Everytime I go in there are other customers getting tinted eyebrows or facials, that is next on my list read more

SO amazed and happy with Hot Looks Salon. I haven't done threading in years because it was so painful when I first tried it! This business changed my view on it completely. In my visit I got two other waxing services- both were also less painful than other places and as enjoyable as a waxing experience could be. I am going back today for a second visit and am writing this review because it's been a while since I've come across a business like this that made me want to return! 2 stars entirely for the amazing ladies who thread there. They do a great job and are quick and clean. The owner (I assume she's the owner or one of the stylists) is another story. Mask under the nose loosely worn and was cutting a customer's hair who had no mask on. While they have a sign that says customers need to wear a mask at all times, this customer who was getting a haircut was not only not wearing a mask but talking super loudly the whole time. This morning I asked for my brows to be left thick, and told the stylist that I was trying to grow them out bushier, and instead they ended up very thin and uneven. The left sided one is like 3mm thinner than the right sided one! She just undid MONTHS of me growing out my brows. I feel like the stylist wasn't even listening to me tell her the directions, and just wanted to get me into the chair as soon as possible so that she could get me out of there. The overall shape is good, but jeez they don't know how to listen to directions. Next time I'll just do it myself. read more

MEENA is amazing, but yesterday I had the other woman and my eyebrows have never been thinner. Asked her not to do too much and even leave stray hairs to keep them fuller and not a lot off the top - interpreted as sooooo much off the bottom I even said not to even them out bc I don't want them any thinner. Meena is amazing! I HIGHLY recommend her. I moved to the area a year ago and she was the first person I saw for my eyebrow threading. I tried a handful of other places to experiment but she has been the best and now I refuse to go see anyone but her. She is so good at eyebrows and I have since sent happy referrals to her. Even better than her eyebrow threading though are her waxing services. Trust me, she is the best waxer in the area, whether it is facial or brazilian. Not only is her technique great, but the wax she uses is SO gentle on the skin. I've never had the hair grow back so slowly and without any ingrown or irritation. Hoboken is not full of quality threading services as the salon near me recently closer. So when I found this salon, I really had nothing to lose. Meena did a great job & really took her time on my eyebrows. She asked me how I found the salon, and gave a loyalty card (I love when places have those- it definitely makes me want to come back). She gave me a discount as well! Completely unexpected and appreciated. The star off has nothing to do with the threading service but rather with the front desk service. I was a walk in and as I entered the salon another woman was working on someone's hair. She hardly greeted me and didn't ask what service I wanted. I didn't speak up bc I really wanted to see how long Shed have me wait until asking me. She was chatting with two other women seated up front that seemed to be waiting as well. It wasn't until the woman in the chair left that I had to ask her, "should I come back later?" Then she called for Meena in the back that told me 5 minutes. I just expect to be greeted with a "Hi, what can we do for you? Threading? Oh Meenas busy right now. Can you wait 10 mins?" That's all! We'll see how it goes next time. read more

I unfortunately didn't have them done by Meena, but the person who did do my eyebrow threading (didn't catch her name) did a great job, especially since they were looking rough (I hadn't had them done in a month since I'd just moved up here and wanted to find the best spot). I am really particular about my eyebrows and have been to a lot of places that thin them out and mess up the shape. Hot Looks is one of my favorite places I've ever gone to get my eyebrows done. This place is absolutely horrible. The 5 star rating that they have is for eyebrow threading NOT hair. Desmond completely destroyed my hair to the point that I had to but it all off- I now have a bob. I went in w a red balayage that he was supposed to fix, told him I wanted something natural looking and easy to maintain. I left with 80's looking choppy highlights. I expressed that I wasn't very happy- he said I could come back and he would "give me more balayage for free". So I paid the $300 knowing I would come back. About a week later I contact Desmond to let him know I want him to fix my hair because it looked outdated and it was not a balayage (how the hell does a hairstylist not know how to do a balayage???? He made me show him at least 5 pictures and he still messed the whole thing up). He said he didn't want to ruin the integrity of my hair so that we were going to test a spot to see if my hair would be okay to bleach again. HE SAID IT WOULD BE FINE AS LONG AS WE CUT A FEW INCHES. I left more satisfied with my hair although he forced me to pay another $130 to fix his mistakes. The next day I couldn't even get a brush through my hair it was so broken. My hair was coming out in actual clumps- it looked like cotton candy. I finally realized this place could not be trusted and these people had no idea what they were doing. I went all the way to south jersey to see my regular hair stylist who said "what the hell did you do to your hair?" My roots were orange because he toned them wrong. I still had zebra stripped highlights and there was literally green on my ends from the toner he used. I had to dye my hair completely dark again to get the color(s) out and had to chop off 7 inches. I am so angry that I let this man ruin my hair. I should have known he didn't know what he was doing. I have been fighting to get my $430 back for over 2 months now because I shouldn't have to pay for their lack of skill. I already had to chop all of my hair off.
