WOW, what a gorgeous theatre with lots of charm! Tonight a few of us went to the ACT Theatre to see the play, "Mother in Another Language." The space was very clean and beautifully adorned with an old-world theatre presence. The play was held in the Bullitt theatre and set up to seat ~100 people which felt nice and intimate. I would suggest parking in the garage on 7th Ave ($7/evenings) which is very close by vs. the Convention Center parking the ACT theatre promotes ($12/evenings) and is further away and more difficult to find. Unless there's some parking validation I don't know about, the 7th Ave parking will be more convenient. 5 Stars on this place - it's solid and a stunning theatrical gem in our artsy little city! This is the best theatre in town I've been to for plays and one you need to experience in all its grandeur! P.S. The play was brilliantly done! Yeesh, with so many good reviews you would think you would hear a few imperfect or bad things about ACT Theatre. I guess this will be a start. My letter below to ACT Customer Support says it all, but to summarize. ACT THEATRE HAS NO REFUND POLICY. If you have to leave the show early (or it sucks), that's it. I paid $118 for tickets, and was told to lump it when I asked for a refund. Personally I don't plan to give ACT any more business until they amend their policies. I would much rather support Arts West, Intiman, Paramount and other venues which are customer friendly. ----- Refund request for "The Dumb Waiter" and "Conversation" Hello, I bought two tickets for Saturday night to see Pinter's "The Dumb Waiter" and "Conversation". Unfortunately, I cannot say I saw the plays as TDW was so slow and uninteresting that my friend and I decided to leave and ask for our money back. The staging was static, the dialogue more forced than a cancelled sitcom premiere, the characters were not that likable, and the plot never developed. Unfortunately, the ticket staff said their were no refunds, and no credit. I find this rather unbelievable since I just spent $118 for two tickets based on erroneous and mis-leading reviews that stated "Two great comedies, The Dumb Waiter and Celebration will be performed back to back, separated by an intermission. Hilarious and riotously funny one act plays." and "Sublime...the most perfect piece of theater you will ever see!" I like theater, I like the arts, and I attend shows all the time. I realize not all theater will be to my liking, but this was awful and I am surprised ACT chose to do these plays. I am also surprised the ticket staff was so adamant about no refunds even though we only say 15 minutes of the play. What happened to customer service? With theater struggling so much in Seattle (e.g. Intiman's last season being cancelled in 2011), you need to adapt a better customer service policy. I would like a refund or credit. I have had the opportunity to see many shows here. I really like how intimate the seating is, more of like a traditional theater performance. As far as the staff go, they must hire the best people. I've never had a bad interaction with anyone here. The location is easily accessible and the facilities are always clean. Overall, this is my favorite theatre in Seattle. I've been a subscriber since they hooked me in with the under 25 pricing, back in 2005 or so, and I've never regretted it. Their ACT Pass deal is the best value in town -- about $25/month to see almost everything on stage at ACT, which includes many events. This ends up being really great for small theatre companies in town as well as showgoers because we get to see smaller productions that we never would have otherwise heard of. ACT introduced me to New Century Theatre Company, which is a fantastic group. ACT was also one of the first theatres here that allowed you to take your drinks inside the theater. read more

While the theater is beautiful, my friend said, "You feel like there should be cheese hanging from a string once you find it." I used to the Convention Center parking since I had no idea where I was going, and it was $6, paid in advance to avoid the wait afterwards. I didn't think $6 was so terrible. What is that - a latte and half a muffin at Starcrooks? I easily followed ACT's website directions to find the theater from the parking lot, but it was indeed labrynthian. Not as easy as just telling my friend to meet me outside - like which outside? Fortunately, we've known each other a long time so we both understood to keep ascending until you got as far as you could without a ticket. And voila! We were in The Allen which is the theater in the round that Maria described. It was interesting to see how they staged it for that venue but I found that I was only truly happy when the actors faced us. I felt that we missed a few things, and I'm wondering if others around the circle felt the same way. As a total experience though, I give it 4 stars b/c it was easy to find, impressive when I got there, and I was home in 15 minutes. read more

ACT's Young Playwrights Program is truly fantastic. I was one of the 8 young playwrights chosen to be featured in their yearly festival, and I have to say it was truly a wonderful and surreal experience. Seeing my script come to life onstage with the help of professional actors and a director was mindblowing. And the festival sold out on the second night! I also saw An Evening With Groucho here, and it was hilarious. This is an awesome venue! read more

It's tough to try limiting the number of 5-star reviews you have when you find places like the ACT theater. Located within walking distance of 5th Avenue and Palamino's, the ACT is a much more intimate venue than its bigger brother, but the smaller stage by no means translates into a lesser production. We were treated to arguably the show of the year with Little Shop of Horrors starring Joshua Carter, who is fast becoming my favorite local actor after his performance in Spamalot as Prince Herbert. If a future show is even half as good as LSoH was, it will still be worthwhile to visit. Added bonus: If you run late and missed your chance to get a scotch, no worries. You can bring them into the theater. Tip: Arrive a couple hours early and park at Palamino's for dinner. They'll validate parking for the show, just as they will for 5th Avenue. read more

This review is for the A.C.T website and ticketing process I just placed an order for tix online and the tickets displayed were NOT the tickets in my confirmation page. I clearly had time left on the little countdown that tells you that you have X number of minutes to place your order. Instead of seats A1 & A3, I get seats E14 & E16. What? I'm rubbing my eyes to make sure I'm seeing straight. Annoying: You don't have your seating charts on your website. You have to actually go through the ticket process to see the seating chart. And to add insult to injury, the seating chart is microscopic so you can't even really tell what seats you are sitting. It just assumes that you count from the aisle into the row, but what if that assumption is wrong? I don't want to sit in the friggin corner. WTF? See http://act-sf.org they have a nice seating chart. Anyway, I did get the tickets corrected after calling the ticket office. But what kind of amateur answers the phones there? How about, "I'm sorry you had that experience...." "Let me help you find better seats..." Instead of being helpful, agent says "I have never seen that happen ever" and "The ticketing system holds the seats and you actually have to exit and go in to get another set of seats." So, basically you are you calling me a liar. Not a great way to start off a customer service call. Now, I'm even more pissed and annoyed. Also, you forgot to thank me for my business and confirm the sale. Yuck. Unprofessional. Now, clearly, this theatre is highly lauded so I will reserve judgement on my actual experience until I actually attend. I'm sure it will be lovely. read more

We have been to ACT the past three winters to see A Christmas Carol and each time I am just completely blown away by not just the performances but the actual theater itself as well! The circular stage set-up brings the audience in and allows us an intimate and magical connection with the story. There really is not a bad seat in the house. The cast of the Christmas Carol is always excellent (I've not seen anything else here yet but hope to!), bringing us all to laughter and tears... and of course inspiring the warm glow of Christmas spirit. We'll keep up with our new tradition and look forward to visiting ACT at least once a year. read more

A Contemporary Theatre. This place is CRAZY. And pretty damn cool. 1st, they only do straight drama. It's rare to see a musical on their stages, but it IS possible. They've got a 5-6 show mainstage season which is usually very pertinent to what's going on within society. Just so happens this years season is based heavily on 'women behaving badly' or women in general. Aside from their mainstage, which runs $50/ticket for good nights of the week, they have some awesome fringe theater that shacks up on any one of their stages at any given night of the week. Tons of stuff goes on at ACT and people don't realize it, but it's got something happening LITERALLY every night of the week. If you're under 25, tickets are cheap. And if you're smart, you'll get an ACTpass for $25 and save yourself a ton of money just seeing unlimited theater. They have 3 stages. The Falls Theater : Proscenium / Thrust The Allen Theater : In the Round The Bullit Cabaret: Blackbox The Bullit is cool because it's an old Mason meeting place, and the weird sh*t on the ceiling will leave you feeling strange, like you'd just stepped into a Kubrick film The Allen is beautiful and state of the art...guess why? Cause Paul Allen funded it. Obviously. The Falls is traditional. And it's got great sight lines, as do all the theaters. (Rumor from the inside is they are building 2 new stages, for a grand total of 5... That's more space than any other theater in Seattle. Go check it out) read more

This theater is a great find in Seattle. I feel like they don't advertise enough though so I rarely find the opportunity to go there. I think I have only been there twice, but in two different theaters and found them both to be really awesome. Both were small and gave an intimate feeling where you could see the stage from every angle, no needing binoculars like some of the larger theaters. I enjoyed that they had Vanities from the 5th here this season. It also is a great place to usher if you are interested in helping out. I believe they are currently offering an all you can see type monthly pass which seems like a great idea. Like everywhere in seattle though parking can be pain, plan accordingly. Snacks and drinks are offered inside and can be taken to your seats which is another bonus. read more

I'm writing this review solely based on attending "A Christmas Carol". Caveat applied, I was impressed that a 90-minute show, without intermission, would hold the rapt attention of every child in the theatre. The kids in the audience LOVED the melodrama of Dickens' classic, and there were plenty of laughs in it for the adults. I must also admit that I shed a tear or three during a few scenes. Probably the only time I've shed real tears since 2000 (I love gin for its preserving capabilities). read more

I love the ACt theatre! I have been impressed with the shows I have seen there and the selection of shows they produce and I am a theatre gal myself so I've seen a lot of shows. The production quality is great, and it is a nice, clean and well designed place. The location is right in the hub of downtown and makes it easy to take advantage of pre-show happy hours or to go get drinks afterwards. They also have pay what you will dates so if money is tight, look up those dates, arrive early and pay what you can! read more

Smart theatre that really seems to be leading the pack in reinventing the failing "subscription model" of American theatre. Their location is gorgeous and they have multiple stages, which they wisely make available to several theatre companies (you can consistently see some truly amazing, new, inventive stuff from Central Heating Lab). Additionally, their mainstage productions tend to be solid. Reliably bringing great talent and good stagecraft and design. They're not always winners, but it's never a waste of time. And they sometimes even push the envelope with their mainstage choices (Albee's "The Goat" and "The Pillowman" both come to mind as make-you-lose-your-breath amazing!!) BEST DEAL IN TOWN (and probably anywhere). For only $25/month you can become an ACT member. This means you can see, basically, unlimited plays. Considering mainstage tickets are generally more than $40, seeing just one show a month and you've already saved money. But the deal gets better. Not only can you call ahead in advance and reserve one ticket to every show that month if you wanted, but you can get big discounts on friend's tickets (if your friends are too silly to get their own membership). Also, IF you see a show that amazes you, you can get "day of show" repeat tickets to it. What a deal!! And you get a discount at the bar. The building and their rooms are very cool. The staff is friendly. The plays are high quality. And the pricing is amazingly cheap. There are so many different deals/options. If you're nervous of the monthly membership (not sure why you would be, as you can cancel at any time), check their website. They offer different "happy hour" discounts and group discounts. It's pretty amazing. There's really no excuse to NOT see more live theatre...price and convenience are no longer a barrier...it's only your schedule and personal life that might get in the way *laughs* read more

Great Venue! Just watched Scrooged and was not expecting the Theatre to be a Round Stage. It was truly amazing! The Set Design was very interesting to watch as items came from the floor or ceiling. The Actors were Outstanding!! Bob Marley, WOW! He knows how to play that character with some style! That's just the tip of if all.. Every Actor provided a perfect addition in their own way. I have never been one to go out of my way to check out this Theatre. After this show, I will be checking things out more often! read more

We went to see "The Beauty of Noh". It was a spectacular performance. The reason I am one starring the venue is the way the box office dealt with an honest mistake. We bought tickets for Saturday, thinking we had bought them for Friday, and we ended up going Friday and, getting our signals crossed, also bought tickets at the box office that night. When we realized our mistake, they offered us nothing. No refund. No exchange for another performance. They told us to just make it a tax deductible donation (nope- not after this experience), come see it again, or sell our tickets online. I'm sure it might be a little complicated, but they were simply unable to do anything for us. Hogwash. It's too bad that a venue that hosts such excellent shows has no customer service. We will never go to another performance there again. read more

We were in town for a few days of touristing and came across Act around the corner from our hotel (Sheraton). Picked up a few tickets for $20 Tuesday to see the "Bird" play, thinking, for that price, we wouldn't have to stay for the whole performance if it got awful. What a wonderful surprise. Sadly I've never been to the ACT til this last week. I'm usually not too forgetful, but I managed to walk out of the house without my ticket. Of course I didn't notice it until I needed to hand my ticket over to be seated. Fortunately, the woman directed me to the house manager who quickly looked up my name on his roster and escorted me to my seat. It could be because it's a small theater and that's how things usually run- I don't know, but I was impressed and appreciative. Having seen a few shows at the 5th Ave Theater recently, I really enjoyed the size of this theater. I like how close and intimate it feels. Go to the ACT, you won't be disappointed. read more

Went here to watch "Other Desert Cities"... it was fantastic. The cast, the production, it totally exceeded my expectations (didn't hurt that one of the actors was VERY attractive). What i really love was the venue. The theater was not super small but every seat had a great view of the stage and you never felt shafted even if you were seated on the side. read more

Just saw These Streets and I'm still gobsmacked at the brilliance of this original piece of work. Even if you didn't experience the Seattle music scene in the late 80's to mid 90's, you'll enjoy this show for it's stunning ability to tell a great story with humor, wit, and dead pan performances by a quirky array of Actors [who can rock out & act]. If you're prone to tearing up at all, I highly recommend stashing tissue in your pocket. Loved the music, powerful, thought provoking, and above-all "full on hard core" . the show runs through March 10th, so get your butt in gear and go before it's over. read more

Union Arts Center - About to relive my salad days! - Performing Arts Near Me - Seattle, Washington

The ACTPass is, hands down, the region's best cultural-events deal (a bargain at $30/mo, or $50/mo for two). More importantly, it's a nice encouragement to try out new things: since virtually every show is included in the flat-rate pass, not being crazy about one show (a rarity) doesn't seem like a bum deal, since you may well have seen five others that month that you loved. I love the variety at ACT. A result of the variety is that the months' show numbers also really vary: some months are packed to the gills with mainstage shows (in which case you might only see a show or two that month, unless you see a repeat show -- though the month's Pass dues are still less than one ticket normally costs); other months, they might have a whole menu of readings, short-runs, young-playwright showings, etc., to check out. The customer service is great: box office, phone/email, house managers, bartenders, all of them. (Speaking of bartenders: you can bring drinks in, for pretty much everything but A Christmas Carol. No food though.) I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for the people who have complained on here about not being able to return tickets -- I'm sorry you had a bad experience, and that it was your only experience with ACT, but they make it crystal clear that there are no refunds. It would be most difficult to run the place if they did. (That said, the Pass also gives max flexibility in shuffling seats/dates which, as a last-minute type, I do appreciate.) I've been to 100+ shows here over the past few years. Shockingly, I've downright loved most of them; liked most of the remainder; and only had a few I wasn't into. Some things to check out: -- The building was the Eagles' Seattle Aerie No. 1, so there are a bunch of cool architectural features. My favorite is the Bullitt Cabaret, which maintains that cool cabaret vibe even as a theatre space. -- The Allen Theatre is a circle-ish (crazy-angled oval, really) theatre that's a neat experience for any show. In the front row, the action can be basically right there in your face (in a good way). Apparently the space was specially designed so the seats are out of alignment -- meaning the view from your seat isn't the same as that from any other. -- There are often free wine tastings, lectures, and other assorted add-ons with some shows, so check the calendar. And lastly: -- Don't write off the readings. They're generally so well-done, you might not miss the full casting/staging. Also, they're often either rough/cutting-edge/in-development or something not seen often, and much cheaper to attend -- and thus a good intro to the ACT. -- Don't worry too much about seat location, since there's really not a bad seat in the house for most. The exception might be in "the Lalie," which is a very tiny space. The Lalie theatre is general admission, and I recommend getting there a bit early to ensure you're not the one stuck behind that 6'7" guy with perfect posture who decided to sit in the front row. They don't have many shows in that theatre, but one really neat thing they do in that space is prison-centered shows: there's a catwalk as part of the stage that works great for those. The 2015 season (ACT's 40th) is a great lineup on the mainstage, and it sounds like they'll be fitting in the usual neat array of short-runs. I'm excited. Enjoy! read more

We saw "Romeo + Juliet" in the round last Saturday night, and it was exceedingly well done. The ACT's interpretation is reflective of the current state of the play's timeless issues, and the direction and acting were certainly professional. Though it was a 3 hour production, there were no lagging moments, and I was riveted until the end, despite it going past my bedtime. read more

Action! This was a great venue that I've passed by many times. They let "Hold These Truths" one man show about Gordon Hirabayashi rent the space for an intimate and powerful story of a man who fought injustice with the WWII Japanese "internment." The staff was really helpful, professional, and speedy. The facilities were nice and clean. I'll have to come back to see one of their productions now that I have a feel of the place. read more

The ACT theater shows a nice mix of contemporary plays each season: from musicals and one-man plays to African-American-rooted productions and headliners the likes of Tom Stoppard and David Mamet. It's also the space for outside produced events - things like burlesque shows or the occasional film festival. The space in the theater isn't as grandiose or nice as the nearby Paramount theater, but the clean space and small stage makes for a more intimate experience. The cost is also likely to be half that of most Paramount theater shows, so that's a plus. Regardless of which show you attend, get ready to sit among the elderly as the crowd trends largely towards older people who replace the electric excitement of many productions with quiet acknowledgement (or very audible snores). read more

I am only able to speak about the Raw Stock performance, a series of movie shorts to include a 'improv series' where each chapter of the movie short is written and directed by different people. The show started off with a live comedian to get the crowd into the mood for watching a series of creative, funny, dark, artistic shorts. It was a great experience. The theater actually contained multiple theater halls and I'm assuming they provide a full bar in all of them, we had one in ours. I'm sure the experience varies depending on the performance you're there to see; I was very satisfied with the venue I chose and the service and experience I had. read more

We saw Little Shop of Horrors and I have been there a couple of times before. The theater produces some great productions and is a clean and welcoming atmosphere. The placement of the various spaces allows room for confusion, but ACT has taken great strides to ensure that their employees are in the right places to make sure the patrons are heading to the appropriate theater. The one thing I don't love is the steep grade of the ramp and the stairs. Being a theater, I learned the hard way that "dressing up" should not include heels at this venue. read more

I went here for the first time to see the world premiere of 'Seven Ways To Get There' by a local playwright. We took ACT's lead and parked in the Washington State Convention Center parking garage. Though it was about $7, it was well worth it, and we then took an enclosed cat-walk over to the other side of the street where the ACT Theater is. The atrium kind of reminded me of a mall, but once you get into the theater section, you begin to see a lot of neat architecture in the hallways. The seating was good in our specific theatre, and I believe they had catered bartenders and snack providers. I've never had one, but I hear the ACTPass is good to have if you are a lover of the arts. Keep in mind, they do not do refunds, so make sure you plan to go on the date you selected. read more

Do see ACT's "Das Barbecü" Saw this play last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! It's a quirky musical that grafts Teutonic myth onto Texas twang. Big hair, big hats, good writing, and wonderful music - including an infectious ode to guacamole and a tender ditty entitled "Hog Tie Your Man" - make this show a blast for opera buffs and anybody who just loves a good time. Went here to watch the magician "Alex Ramon Illusion Fusion" - What a great show !! He was amazing ! So much FUN ! The ACT theater is intimate enough that you felt like he was in your living room. His illusions left us saying "how'd he do that?" over and over again. He's is very funny too :) All in all a great event ! Spectacular place full of wonderful people. They tend to be a little more experimental than what you would expect at a more mainstream theater, but the shows they put on are of top quality. I recently saw a comedy there called, "The King Of the Yees" and it was without a doubt, one of the best theatrical performances I have ever seen. Very original, very engaging. All of the theater spaces in this production company are beautiful, and I get the sense that they are a legitimately positive force in our community. read more

I took my 9year and her friend to watch the Christmas carol - it turned out to be one of the funnest things we have done these holidays. Parking at the convention center and getting to the theatre is short walk. We were seated in section C, row B - but as others have noted, this is a small stage you get to feel real close to the act, with several scenes using actors coming in around the audience. The cast was excellent. There were some brief moments when the scarier sound/lights got a bit intimidating for the girls, but overall they enjoyed it whole heartedly. Absolutely recommend it for the holidays with the kids. read more

I've only seen shows on The Allen stage so I'm not sure how the other stages are. I'm one who likes theatre in the round and ACT does a great job with theirs. The shows are always very entertaining, the actors do their jobs well and the costumes and sets always go with the show. The only downside are the seats, first of all make sure you aren't stuck in the last row in the tall chairs, unless you like them, the rest of the seats can be a bit crowded but if there are empty seats they have no problem re-seating you and with it being in the round there typically aren't any bad seats in the house. If you get a chance go check out a play I plan on seeing The Clean House and First Class both part of their 2007 season. read more

This is seriously the best deal in town. For $25 a month you will receive unlimited access to almost everything that happens at ACT, save a few fundraising type events usually. The quality and variety of what you will see is unbelievable. Even if you only go twice per month (and I'm usually there much more often!) it is still the same price as going to the movies and you get to experience REAL LIVE THEATER! Plus, parking is a breeze at the convention center and is pretty cheap for night time access. read more

On yet another recent visit, my friend and I found the acting stilted (performers seemed obviously amateurs), the sets/design poorly thought out, and the script so crude that we wondered why ACT even bothered. What's more, after years of patronage, when we gave the management our feedback and asked for our money back given the awful production presented on stage, we were met with haughty contempt and flat out indifference. Word of advice: before you visit this establishment, make sure it has its ACT together! Don't just reach for your pockets at the risk of having your taste and intelligence insulted - some of its productions may be fun for the uncultured, but true fans of the theater may find it hard to enjoy them. read more

Review of "the break/s: a mixtape for stage" by Aaron Moncivaiz From June 17th through July 12th, The Hansberry Project (http://www.hansberryproject.org/) at ACT Theatre (http://www.acttheatre.org/) presents "the break/s: a mixtape for stage" written and performed by Marc Bamuthi Josheph. Joseph is a poet, dancer, educator, and the Artistic Director for The Living Word Project (http://www.youthspeaks.org/lwp_description.html), "a theater company dedicated to the aesthetics of post Hip-Hop performance." Joseph is joined onstage by turntable technician DJ Excess and Tommy Shepherd, drummer / vocalist / beatboxer. March Bamuthi Joseph's multi-layered performace starts out on the floor, spinning around at the center of a turntable, moving his body, dancing, reciting to the beat, letting the music take over, and telling the audience his fantastic stories (highlights are his Chappelle-challenging Prince dream and the chance he had at interviewing an early Jay-Z). While Joseph interacts spectacularly with the stage and "schizophrenically" moves from one state to another, DJ Excess expertly spins records and Tommy Shepherd provides his own highlights: drums, looped vocals, and beatbox. Three screens play video of Africa, Tokyo, and interviews with the Hip-Hop-erati attempting to answer the same questions Shepherd asked audience members before the show started. "How do you define Hip-Hop? What do you think of women in Hip-Hop, white people?" At one point Joseph asks the audience not to tell; People think his performance is as much high art as it is Hip-Hop. Shhh. But Joseph knows he's stuck in the groove between a life of Hip-Hop and high art, openly revealing his concern, "How Hip-Hop can I be if I'm here?" Through Hip-Hop theatre, he makes a career out of reconciling the two. the break/s' story is Joseph's Hip-Hop story, his gaze at personal culture and how that culture has spread throughout the world. Joseph delves into himself, honestly confronting his own shortcomings, his shots, and his successes. He explores what Hip-Hop means to him and to those closest to him, how he and Hip-Hop apply to each other. But "the break/s" is also about macro-Hip-Hop, having crossed oceans, Hip-Hop globalization. Joseph has seen its effects in Senegal, Japan, Haiti, Wisconsin and Eastern Europe. Marc Bamuthi Joseph's performance is an unforgettable look into the soul of a now worldwide culture from the perspective of one who was there at the beginning of it all and who deals with its definition everyday. He is immensely talented and touching, hilarious and thought provoking. His performance is enjoyable on all levels and can be appreciated by Hip-Hop and high art lovers at the same time. On opening night, Joseph was well deserving of a standing ovation. I highly recommend the break/s and suggest everyone catch it before July 12. There are 4 theaters within this theater, but I've only been to the Theater in the Round to see 'A Christmas Carol'. It's a family tradition every other year or so. My kids loved the round stage and it's impressive the way the actors adapt to play to the entire audience. The space feels very intimate, but try to order your tickets online early for the good seats near the front. Though ACT is known for its staging of important and unique contemporary plays, I like the way it holds onto its roots and includes 'A Christmas Carol' every year. If you aren't concerned about paying for parking, use the Convention Center garage and enter the theater through the Convention Center. It is convenient. read more

Best theater in Seattle, hands down. Period. My husband and I have been going here - and ushering here, off and on - for 10 years now. No other theater venue comes close, in our opinion, to good intellectually stimulating plots and playwriting, acting and set design.
