Really love this place! Great for guys and girls looking for a great clipper cut! Union Barber has this old barber shop feel, and makes everyone feel welcome - guys, girls, families; although I mostly see guys when I visit. Being female, I wondered if I would feel welcome or whether it would be uncomfortable in a barber shop - but I was never made to feel anything but welcome. Everyone is very friendly and the place has a very positive vibe. My go-to person for over a year now has been Macie - she has a great talent for creating a look that works for me - a short cut that looks girly. Her fades and blending are the best I've had, and she does a great job texturing the top to give it enough play and style. Most of her clients are guys and they all look great when they walk out of the shop too- and I have watched Macie give kids a cool style as well. I like being able to book appointments from my phone - you choose your service, then your barber, then choose your day & time - so easy! About a month ago my beard got a little out of control and and I had some time to kill so I stopped at Union Barber. I walked into the building and was greeted by a great old school atmosphere. Moments after entering I was sitting on one of the chairs and got by beard taken care of by Mark. He went above and beyond my expectations. He was great to talk to, very professional and got me all cleaned up in no time. On my way out I decided to schedule an appointment to get my hair cut the following day. When I showed up to my appointment I again relied on Marks experience and skill to get literally the best haircut in my life. I usually don't enjoy getting a hair cut and am not a big fan of my hair, I have a terrible hairline and cow licks in all the wrong places an absolute nightmare for most hair dressers/barbers. But not for Mark, he did a fantastic job which got me to come back to Union Barber yesterday for once more a great experience. I will keep coming back every month to get my hair and beard cleaned up! I recently moved back to Birmingham from Grand Rapids and needed to find a new barber. I came to Union Barber on the recommendation of a friend, and couldn't be happier with that choice. I scheduled an appointment online - a very easy process - and two days later came to the shop for my haircut with Mark. I arrived a little early, and was greeted by nearly everyone in the shop, who offered me a drink and made friendly conversation until my turn in Mark's chair. The shop itself is awesome - great location downtown Ferndale. With 5 or 6 barber chairs, tons of products on display for sale, great music, an old school Coke machine, and of course great barbershop conversation. I want to say thank you to Jordan. I have a son who is on the spectrum and has sensitivity issues. We found Jordan via a facebook post and came highly recommended. I have been through many places to cut my sons hair, they dont take the time with him, even though they realize he has issues. We have gone to Jordan twice now, and he did not disappoint, not only did he give a fabulous haircut, but he made my son feel safe, he talked to him like he would anyone else, and I especially liked that he didnt make us feel like he was on an assembly line of haircuts, as most places and or people are like that. I stopped in to Union Barber because I haven't shaved in about six months, and I knew they did straight razor shaves. Patrick offered to do it, and everything was smooth throughout the entire process. He was laid back, but very professional. He explained each step of the process before doing it, and he definitely understands his craft. If you're into this type of thing, this place does it all. Clippers, steam, pre-shave, hot towels, cold towels, multiple blades per shave, cleaned the neck, cleaned the eyebrows, after shave, and a bottled coke on the way out. Patrick didn't act rushed or as if he was just going through the motions. The place isn't cheap, but you do walk out feeling like you went through a treatment. I guess this is the closest I'll feel to how many feel after a manicure. If you think of it this way, Union Barber was well worth it. First time customer, drove all the way from Ann Arbor based on reviews I saw here. The shop has a great vibe and I was offered a drink as soon as I sat down. I booked an appointment online with Mark, which was really easy to do on their website. My appointment started right on time on a busy Saturday which was nice since I was coming from a distance to an new place. The cut I received from Mark made me really mad at my old barber Lol. The service and cut were top notch, and has me thinking that I have been missing out on a REAL barber experience this whole time. Been going to the same barber for 17 years now, but he doesn't do beard trimming, so I booked online at Union yesterday with the owner, Mark after I decided to let the beard grow for about 3 months. Booking online was really easy, and when I showed up for my appointment I was greeted with a warm welcome. Very old school barber shop vibe, which was cool. Plus, they offer you a bottle of coke or a water when you walk in! Mark and staff are very friendly, and he did a great job lining my beard up and trimming it to my expectations. The eucalyptus oil hot towel on the face and the aftershave was also a nice touch. Union has made a repeat customer out of me. This is by far the best Barber Shop I have ever been to! How good is it... Well I left my barber of 12 years, and I travel 45 minutes to get my haircut. Not to mention that my old barber is down the street from me. I instantly felt welcomed at Union Barber. Everyone is so nice and accommodating, they all just want you to have a good time while you get your haircut. Sway is my guy... He will do whatever you want, and make it look good. He can cut anyone. The thing I love about Union Barber is that they are considerate of the experience you want. There have been times when I have a special occasion and Mark will cut, shampoo and style my hair so I'm good to go. There are also days when I just need a need a quick cut so I can run home and shower before work. Whether Mark works speedy or takes his time, the quality of the cut is never compromised. I've been a patron of unions for a couple of months now and I have to say the service is top notch. I usually sit with Alicia, but I've also sat with a few others when I get my hair cut, and everyone I've gone too has been professional, courteous, and overall everyone has a really positive attitude about their work. Very impressed! Was recommended to Union Barber, and Mark in particular, by a friend and was so glad I took up his suggestion! The place itself has a really cool atmosphere, and all of the staff I encountered were very friendly. A great location right on 9 mile. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and the shop is clean and contemporary with a traditional barber feel. Macie did my hair and she always does amazing. She's actually the reason I started coming here; she had been working at a different barber and left, and I was more than happy to start going her, she's that good.
