I have gotten a few pizzas at Union Pizza in the past, with no issues. But recently, in the middle of March, I ordered a 24 cut pizza (with 1/2 sausage), and something was wrong with it. It was bitter and tasted off; either the sauce was spoiled or the dough was. I have 4 children and a very hectic schedule, so it took me a couple of days to call and ask to talk to the manager. He said if I had called right away, he would have done something about it, but he said it was too late and he was not going to do anything to make it right. We ordered through grubhub. We were charged an additional $4.00 to add garlic to our pizza. We ordered a 12" chicken broccoli, tomato and basil pizza. It cost $23.00. I called them and told them that for $4.00 we didn't want the garlic. They told me they would take care of it. We haven't seen any compensation as of yet. The toppings were minimal! One, maybe two of each topping on each piece of pizza. We did not detect any basil. It was cold by the time we got it. It looked like it was taken out of a freezer and thrown in the oven. wish I would have read the before placing my order for a meatball sub and steak quesadilla. The quesadilla hardly had steak in it and the meatball sub was burnt with thin slices of meat that I couldn't even identify. I placed my order through slice and requested a refund which was denied. So I then called the restaurant and still have not heard back from the manager. My next resort will be to dispute the charges through my bank. I paid for edible food what was delivered was completely inedible and I will NEVER order from here again. The pizza had a nicely thin and crispy crust, which I enjoyed, but the sauce was overwhelmingly salty and threw off the whole balance. The owner claimed the ingredients were fresh, which may explain the higher price--but freshness alone doesn't justify the cost if the flavor isn't right. For what I paid, I expected better. Yumny! Classic big triangular slices of NY pizza. I haven't tried any of the toppings here. None are needed. The sauce, cheese and dough are all well balanced and flavorful. I'm only in Schenectady sometimes so I can't order from here all the time but I would if I lived nearby. read more

I've been a customer at Union Pizza since I was a student at the middle school around the corner from this little shop, and it's remained one of my favorite local pies. Maybe it's nostalgia, but there is something so familiar, delicious, comforting about a Union Pizza, and it truly brings me so much joy. The second-gen owner and I are around the same age, and our pizza friendship goes back to the days when he was just a young lad, helping his mother run the place after school; now, he's in charge, and has been for quite some time. Stepping foot into Union Pizza brings back so many memories, like the days when $3 could get you two slices and a can of soda. Inflation aside, Union Pizza's recipe is just really good to me; it definitely has something to do with their homemade sauce, and the way their semi-thin crust bubbles to fluffy, crispy perfection on the days the pizza gods are shining down on the pizza cooks and coaching them on ticket times. The bottom line, Union doesn't make a bad pizza, period. That being said, Union Pizza isn't your fancy slice shop where there are ten to twenty pies raring to go, each one topped with an assortment of ingredients, pulling your tastebuds in every which way, stirring waves of anxiety through your body. Union Pizza is more like the cool older brother who's always looked out for you and never steered you wrong. Even though he was older, and cooler, and hanging out with his older cool-guy friends (total hotties, btw!), Union Pizza wasn't embarrassed to let his little sister know how much he cared for her developing palate and appreciation for pizza. (spoiler alert: that's me, I'm the little sister!) One of the best pizzas in Schenectady. Great crust in flavor and chew, sauce works and always arrives piping hot. Wish they were open just little later because we've missed their delivery cut off a couple times and I'm telling you, no other pizza will do. Trust me, we've had the others and been pretty disappointed. I know we're no NYC, but I still have a high pizza expectation. Union Pizza meets it! Appreciate the prices too, never felt overcharged and every single time they ask if we want to add a tip, they always, always take time to say thank you. Wow!!! I haven't been to Union Pizza in a few years.....only because I do not live in the area any more. However a couple of weeks ago I was back home and was determined to introduce my husband (from Brooklyn) to the best pizza in Upstate. So we stopped by and picked up a classic cheese for us and my adorable nieces. The decision was good one as he and the little ones LOVED it as I knew they would. So glad nothing has changed (except for the prices ) at this place. I remember visiting when I used to attend Oneida Middle and then Schenectady High and Union Pizza was always a treat on a Friday. Updating and upgrading our previous review from one star to a weak three after having finally nailed a couple of visits after a poor initial experience that turned us away (see previous review). This is a high volume take out and delivery joint, with just three small tables inside (two picnic tables outside) and zero ambiance. The customer service is a bit brusque, and the pizza is what we call "ANSI Standard", acceptable but utterly unremarkable Neapolitain-style "Greek-style" crust. The subs and appetizers are pretty standard and also in that "OK" range. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to it but it's one of the standard-style shops you find four or six of near college campuses (the Union is for Union College, no doubt, since this isn't near Union Street) so it will get you a relatively cheap ($9.50 for an 8-cut) cheese-heavy pie relatively quickly. My three-star category is very broad and encompasses everything I would go back to (two stars is I really really wouldn't choose to go back, four stars is I'd go out of my way to go back) but, as noted, this is a mildly tepid rating within our that three-star tier. read more

We tried 5 other local pizzerias and Union Pizza has been by far the most consistent and best tasting pizza in the area. And the wings are great as leftovers, especially when you grill them! I attended a surprise birthday party for a buddy of mine last weekend. Part of the spread at the party was a selection of pizzas from Union Pizza. I had, at that point, had a couple of beverages, so I thought it may have been the Guinneses talking, but I absolutely LOVED the pizza. I told myself that I'd give Union a try the next time my family and I had a hankering. I won't say that my family is in a pizza rut, but we've definitely got our go-to spots for take-out. Paesan's is the kids' favorite, but my wife and I aren't the biggest fans. Their crust tends to be a little too thick for our tastes. Ciao Italia, which is right down the road from us, offers a more traditional NY-style thin crust, and though I prefer them to Paesan's, the kids don't like it as much. Enter Union Pizza. I called ahead to order our take-out. I decided to splurge on this particular Friday, and I got each of my three kids their OWN small, six-cut pizza (they can never agree on toppings, and they like to have leftovers the following day). My wife and I split a medium meat lover's. We also got an order of boneless wings (medium) and an order of cheese sticks (two for me, one for everyone else!!). I was told that my order would be ready in about 35 minutes. Having never been there before, I gave myself a little bit of extra time to get lost, but thanks to modern technology, I arrived right on time, and was pleased by the size of their parking lot. There were probably 6 or 7 spots. I do believe they're focused on delivery and take-out, though. If you're by yourself, and just stopping in for a quick slice, go for it. But it's a really small place. A few tables, but a lot in the way of elbow room or ambience. It's definitely got a 'hole-in-the-wall' vibe, which may sound like a knock, but is actually A-OK in my book. Anyway, I arrived right as they were taking the last of my pizzas out of the oven. Yay! I was greeted by a friendly young employee. For all of the food we ordered, the price was right (about $55 total). I got home and found that my slightly hazy recollection of their pizza wasn't as impaired as I'd feared. Union's crust is IDEAL. Not cardboard, not flimsy. Damn-near perfect. Everything was delicious, and everyone was happy. This won't be the last time we get pizza from Union. In fact, despite having to drive a little bit farther to get there, they've pretty much jumped to the top of our "Pizza Night" list. read more
