I really don't get the hype! While these Donuts are visually stunning, they have a really strange texture. In a word, claggy. They are also a bit dry and the flavor of the icing is rather one-note. Very expensive for what you get! My wife, son and I visited this small establishment during our last minute student tour of Harvard University. I looked in the window on the walk by and decided to stop in and give the donuts a try. It began with a warm greeting from the man with glasses behind the counter and fresh haircut. He said hello and welcome. After waiting for another customer to complete his purchase the man behind the counter asked what I wanted. I told him and the young woman there who gave me a cross scout that I wanted a plain donut. The man's smile turned into a frown quickly. Maybe because it was a specialty donut shop which I hadn't realized. Both of the workers had their arms crossed and immediately stopped talking to us. I asked about other flavors and they both looked at me as if to say, please leave. I ordered three different donuts and the price came to almost $16z. Wow! Expensive donuts. My family and I left the store and we each began eating the donuts. We spoke about the price but felt it could be worth it if it tasted good. The donuts were not good. They looked really tasty however tasted really bad. I've actually never tasted a disgusting donut before and this was the first. The customer service was terrible and the donuts were bad. The variety of donuts here is impeccable. Such interesting flavors. I never order the generic stuff because they have donut flavors that i've never even heard of, which i always get and each time i do, i love them. They're fluffy and big and flavorful. Union Square Donuts is located in, well, Union Square, so it's perfect for a grab and go snack while strolling through the city. It is a fairly small donut shop so there are no tables or chairs and the donuts are on the dront display. But the location is perfect because who would rather sit in Union Square anyway. My only comment would be the staff. I've been here a few times and half the time, the staff is impatient and is not friendly. Almost like they can't wait for you to leave, which definitely ruins the experience, especially since the place is already small so you're right across from each other the entire time. read more

I had a great really great experience here today! I was originally attracted by their collection of fall-flavored donuts: Apple cider cake, pumpkin cream bar, pumpkin spice latte, and apple ginger! A lot of them also have vegan versions. I finally went there today to treat myself. The service was really good! Although it was a small grab and go place in Harvard square, the server greeted me warmly (I wish I've asked their name!). They recommended according to different flavors and textures (cake-based and yeast-based) to me patiently. And I ended up having "caramel pumpkin cheesecake" donut since it looked the most appealing and it has cheesecake filling. Since I was about to travel out of town and worried that these seasonal flavors will be leaving so I asked if they will be available next week--- turns out that many flavors are leaving tomorrow! I also really appreciate the server here who nicely checked their notebook and pointed out which flavors are leaving while others are not. And now comes to the tasting time!! It is a really eye-opening experience. The donut dough is so fluffy and soft. It's not over sweet at all. And compare to other chain-branded donut, they don't have that metal-chemical flavor that you know is overdosed to raise the dough. What's more, you can see the vanilla bean in the donut dough which proves a solid quality! The pumpkin cheesecake filling--- surprisingly creamy, rich, and tastes exactly like pumpkin pie but lighter/airier. I also appreciate the nutmeg and cinnamon flavor that stood out. The caramel outside is nicely covered and add pleasant sweetness. The donut is topped with gingersnap cookie crumble, tasting like a fancy version of pumpkin pie crust--- which makes the donut like a decomposed/reorganized pumpkin pie! I paired it with coffee but honestly the donut is not over sweet at all that you will not be overwhelmed even eating itself as breakie. All in all, I am totally fall in love with this donut shop! (Oh there is a discount if you are Harvard affiliated!) I would recommend if you wanna treat yourself with decent dessert while feel good about eating it (not-so-guilty because of the good stuff and reasonable sugar content!) One of my top donut shops. They have fun trendy flavors that cater to any taste. I got the cinnamon sugar donut and it was soft, super fluffy, and delicious. Not overly sweet, and not too bland. I was excited to try these donuts as I had heard so much about them and was missing a good donut shop. However, for the price of the donut, which is typically $4-5/donut, it's just not worth it. The donuts are quite large which helps justify the price but the ratio of dough is too much and it's extremely dense. The pumpkin spice latte donut was the best one out of the 4 types I ordered. That one tasted the freshest and was nice and chewy. Overall, it's a decent donut, but if I want one in the future I'll save my money and go to Dunkin which is honestly better. read more
