Food: The chocolate banana babka was AMAZING! $7 for a little slice but I was so good. I'm obsessed. Service: So nice and fast! Ambiance: In a perfect area of Cambridge right next to the red line.

Relatively new to area and stopped by here for a matcha latte first and then started grabbing some of the food. Personally love the cinnamon babka and coconut macaroons. Honestly, can't go wrong with most of options.

Came in to try a babka for breakfast and was so tempted by the challah bread and savory pastries but decided that I wouldn't have the stomach space for more food and just grabbed a chocolate babka to try the classic. It was absolutely delicious and I loved how rich and chocolatey the bread is without being too too sweet. The chocolate is spread throughout the braided sweetened bread and the edges are actually a bit toasted for a textural difference. It was so yummy I'll definitely be back to try the other flavors. The chocolate banana pecan looks super good as well!

My order: Iced mocha with oatmilk and my mom got a spinach boureka! The Review: Bakey is always fantastic and this location is no exception. This brought me back to my gluten days. Although there were zero gluten free options for me, I was able to show my mom one of the delectable delights of Cambridge. She absolutely loved her boureka. I got the iced mocha; I think they used the baking chocolate and it was SO good. My hot take--if your business specializes in flour, it's okay that there's no gluten-free! For gluten free options, Verveine in Central square is walkable.

They aren't able to toast the bagel as the sandwich was preassembled, although come to think of it not sure if they toast the bagel if asked separate, will need to find out. But once I started eating it I see why, that challah bagel is so soft, fluffy, easy to chew, doesn't need to really be toasted. The ice tea was good as well. Can't wait to try more.

Having been to tons of bakeries, coffee shops serving pastries, patisseries, etc where I travel to, this place peaked my interest; especially when it was featured on Instagram The whiff of fresh baked goods greets you. The place is bright, modern, clean with lots of seating. Cute touch is an "Oven On" sign . I guess they specialize in babka so they served strawberry babka and raspberry babka. My daughter and I shared the latter. The texture was good, not dry but there was an aftertaste that I wasn't sure what it was, whether from the dough itself or the glaze. There were other pastries but not so much variety. My daughter ordered the spinach and feta pastry. She said it was good. I like their beverages better. Their cold dirty chai with whole milk and extra shot of espresso was good! Service was a 5.

The almond babka is absolutely amazing and is one of my favorite pastries in Boston! Sandwiches are fine but the pastries are what I would visit for. Service is efficient and this location is very clean. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back!

We went to Bakey for a bagel, which was fine, but the pumpkin babka was out of this world!!! This isn't your typical dry pre-made babka, it's something truly special. So moist, flavorful, and amazing in every way. Perfect texture! I would absolutely recommend trying one...or two....or ten! Life changing

There are things to like here - they actually have a restroom that you don't need to grab a key for, and I enjoyed the coffee that I ordered. I also appreciated that there was seating and you weren't rushed out. However, the babka, while they were okay as a breakfast treat, they weren't something I would make an extra effort to order.

Great customer service and selection of both sweet and savory treats/pastries. A much welcome edition to the Kendall Square area.

Babka babka babka babka babka. Raspberry aspect was amazing. Maybe I'm not a babka person but I would have liked for it to be a bit more moist / less dry. It's still super good tho! Chill vibes in the shop :)

I thought everything was pretty yummy! The service was fine, and the line moved very fast. I liked the goat cheese, but found the pastry overall to be a little bland. The almond babka was delicious but very wet and heavy. This is a pretty casual spot, with outdoor seating nearby too!

    Bagel with challah texture, delicious!

Went here for their grand opening day! It was a super good experience. I was immediately greeted by people working here, and offered to try chocolate babka samples. The babka tastes great, it was soft, warm with plenty of chocolate fillings. I also tried their bagel ---it is definitely a non-traditional bagel, more with a challah texture, soft, fluffy, and eggy. I would not ask them to toast it but just warm up with microwave, since it's more of a bread experience (and I enjoyed it!) There are several larger tables decorated with fresh bouquets for group to hang out, and small tables for individuals to work. I studied here for a bit, and it was a decent time. It's next to the subway station, so lots of people come and go. I definitely recommend coming to try their babkas!

    The bagel was burnt.

I went with two scoops, black raspberry and brownie chocolate, and the brownie was killer. Rich, chocolatey, and totally worth standing outside in 30 degree weather to eat it. I devoured it without hesitation. There were so many great flavor options, and my friends all found something they loved too. It felt like one of those classic, must-stop dessert spots. I said, "Yes please, I'd like M&Ms." The server, and another person working behind the counter, both told me that they just ran out of M&Ms. They didn't have any more. This was weird to me. As I was walking to the the shop, I passed a person who had a small cup of ice cream with both m&m's and oreo topping. Okay, I thought. That's weird but so be it. Then, I scootch over to look at the rest of the toppings and what do I see? M&Ms. I point out the M&M's to the employee and ask, "hey, aren't those M&M's?" They mumbled something back that I didn't exactly catch. They either said "those are closed" or "those are skittles" or "it's not those". "those are closed" makes no sense because they asked if I wanted toppings and it was 2 and a half hours before they closed. "those are skittles" makes no sense because they don't carry skittles as a topping... The whole experience was perplexing to me. Anyways, JP Licks is pretty overrated and too expensive. $6.5+ for the smallest size is not worth it. They have some decent flavors (cookies n' cake batter) though and the ice cream is usually pretty well executed and not icy. still, not really a place i'd recommend and won't be going back for a while after this freak incident. Attached photos are the proof that they had M&Ms. Note the "M" on the candy and the blue colored candies (they don't make blue skittles)

We weren't sure how to enter, so we started in the bookstore and found their convenient elevator downstairs! The restaurant is tiny but cozy, which is the perfect atmosphere for a book store! We sat outside in the little courtyard and it's a mix of magical and relaxing! There were only a few tables, so it wasn't overcrowded and with nice weather, it was perfect. I had a salad with salmon on the side which was delicious - and the ginger lemonade - wonderful! From buttered noodles to seafood, everything was executed well. The staff didn't rush us even though they were busy - and they had to give really long wait times to a number of others, but we still weren't rushed. I would highly recommend reservations, but even without we were treated very well. Beacon Hill Books and Cafe is a three story independent bookstore set inside a townhouse on Beacon…read moreHill, and the physical space does as much work as the inventory in making it worth a visit. We walked into a building with the kind of architectural character that chain bookstores cannot manufacture, with small rooms opening into each other across multiple floors, wallpapered walls, and reading nooks distributed throughout that invite you to slow down rather than move through quickly. The book selection is well curated with staff recommendation cards on the shelves that actually reflect genuine enthusiasm rather than perfunctory notes. We saw limited edition hardcovers and local and regional titles appearing alongside the broader fiction and nonfiction selection. Browsing felt productive rather than overwhelming because the curation kept things focused. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. For a bookshop that doubles as a destination in its own right, Beacon Hill Books and Cafe delivers a cozy, curated experience that rewards lingering. It is the kind of place we would return to just to sit and read with a good coffee.
