This is a growing practice of excellent doctors. I came to USEC because my doctor recently joined the practice. Her quality of care remains exceptional. The office experience is dismal at best. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Making appointments on the website is not the easiest, updated records don't seem to be recorded to the database that the practice uses (mostly powered by 3rd party, Athena), no one answered the phone on two separate occasions during office hours, averaging 7 minutes on hold listening to a pitch about the practice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will go back to USEC because Dr Arthur is an excellent doctor and consummate professional, thorough and cares about patient well-being. I was referred to Dr Kevin Wu by my PCP because I had a fracture of my left eye orbital floor. He suggested a conservative plan of care which set my mind at rest. I feel that I'm in good hands. During my cataract surgery by Dr. Weizner. He made a sharp push on my eyeball, which was not necessary for the insertion of a new lens. That press caused severe pain in my brain our neck. I received a referral and I was able to make a same-day appointment, which I really appreciated. When I made the appointment the front desk told me there wouldn't be people in the waiting room and that people just show at their appointment time. Patients were waiting but it is a very large space with multiple rooms and no one was sitting next to or near each other. I still waited outside until my appointment. I had told them at the time of my appointment that they should put on the chart that I'm kind of jumpy. I'm not sure the doctor saw that and was a little curious as to why I was skittish about the drops. Eventually we did everything we needed to for the exam. I needed to see the optometrist as well to check on my prescription and the office could get me in the next day. Otherwise I would have had to wait until December. The optometrist took her time to discuss my prescription and with going over the eye charts. I would definitely recommend this eye practice, but discuss with them what they're doing in the office during Covid if you have concerns/questions. read more

Do not go! I went to get an eye exam and fitted for new eyeglasses and contact lenses. I saw Dr. Susan Chen, who performed an eye exam (did not put any drops in my eyes). She told me I had astigmatism and needed torric contact lenses to get sharp vision. I waited 6 weeks for the lenses to arrive. I went to pick them up, and told her my vision was still blurry. She said this was the best she could do, given that I have the beginnings of cataracts. After wearing them for a week, I messaged her twice that I couldn't see - NO RESPONSE. Finally, I had to call the office and was told she was no longer there. I called back and was told she was there and I finally got an answer from her. She only fits soft contact lenses - not GP, not hybrid and is even not qualified to fit torric lenses!!! I paid $100 for lenses, and this optometrist goes ahead and orders them for me and tells me to order more! Too much red tape at the front desk and bathroom was a mess! STAY FAR AWAY! read more

After biking around Central Park I had an irritation in my left eye which I tried to address on my own, flushing it out with water for 10 minutes in the shower. Unfortunately that didn't work so I went to urgent care the next morning and they weren't able to fully remove the foreign body so I called Union Square Eye Care and they got me an appointment the next morning at 8:45am! I was shocked because not everyone takes my insurance. I was in and out in 15 minutes, with a very thorough eye exam. The doctor mentioned there was a small rust ring that was healing on its own already so he prescribed me some eye drops to prevent a bacterial infection and sent me on its way. I was very impressed by the overall experience and recommend this office for any eye care needs :) read more

There are hundreds of better places in NYC. The wait can be issue but worse than that is the fact that they take your Medicare AND your secondary insurance then want to charge you $50 for a copy of your eye glass prescription. Yes, $50 for pressing the 'print' button on their computer. Doesn't get more 'rip-off' than that. Never again read more

Updated review: my eye has been swollen shut now for over a week after a routine eye exam at Union Square Eye Care left me with a terrible eye infection. Now I am left paying additional medical bills due to the infection that I got here and taking a week off of work bedridden. Stay as far away as possible!!! I went here for a few years and it was truly a waste of time. The doctors kept changing (the only one I truly enjoyed left-- not a great sign) and then I was continuously billed random $20 and could not resolve it with the billing department for a YEAR. The care they provided wasn't great either-- eventually the doctor gave up on my eye issue and was just like "yeah I can treat the symptoms but I don't know what else to tell ya." This place has horrible customer care. Google and Yelp scores are much more accurate than Zocdoc. My roommate has been bedridden with a massive eye infection that occurred days after leaving this facility. The medical director here hid behind a statement along the lines of "it is impossible to trace this back to us" -- which is probably the worst customer service ever. I have been a patient of Dr. Wisnicki ever since my mom recommended him to me after he did her strabismus surgery almost 20 years ago. Just last Thursday, I had the same surgery for the same condition and I am extremely happy with the results. Dr. Wisnicki is truly an expert in his field and it shows not only through surgery, but through the way he interacts with his patients at the clinic. He is attentive and has always been clear and realistic about what to expect from the operation. Only a few days post-operation, I can already feel and see my eyes' improvement in alignment and function. The front desk staff and technicians at Union Square Eyecare are very quick and efficient. They are also very friendly with excellent customer service skills. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment at this practice for your eye exams! read more

On two occasions I was cancelled for eye surgery. The first time it was the night before the 7 am surgery. The second time I showed up for the appointment and was told it had been cancelled. Dr. Wisnicki is a great doctor! I've had vertical strabismus in my left eye for most of my adult life and was told by other doctors that it was unfixable. Dr. Wisnicki was able to fix my double vision. I couldn't believe how fast the surgery and recovery was. The surgery was on a Thursday and was able to go back to work on Monday. I highly recommend Dr. Wisnicki for anyone suffering with strabismus. I Wish I would have seen him sooner. read more

I had to write a review!!!! I had my regular eye checkup there and was seen by Dr Armstrong. She was new to me, young and took her time. I'm so thankful to her that I plan on stopping by to give her a gift. What happened was - She found something In my eye that I had no idea about (no symptoms). Anyway she recommended I see a retina specialist in which I did today. He said that Dr Armstrong likely saved my sight. Because she was thorough, she found something that was not obviously seen. Dr Wisniki did my surgery-and I guess it went OK, but don't expect much else from him-you will wait at least 1 hour after your appointment time to see him. My surgery was scheduled for 11AM, but it didn't start until 4PM..The doctor is a little snarky, very little information, lots of smarty pants answers. Overall, not a pleasant experience. read more

I went in for new glasses with a previous diagnosis of double vision due to 4th nerve palsy and the paperwork for it. All I needed was an exam for that specific issue so that I could get new glasses. They did the refraction exam anyway, and then it was obviously not covered by my primary insurance, so they sent me a $50 bill for that exam. That's okay because it should be covered by my Vision insurance, but their billing department won't answer their phones or ever return my calls. I just get repeated emails and phone calls from a robot about the bill, with no human to talk to. I have tried to contact them with no response and they now sent this $50 bill to collections. I may have to pay this bill for no reason now just to get it off my credit. Pretty frustrated. I don't live in NYC anymore or else I would have just gone to the office. I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to report this, because this is not okay. read more

I usually never leave reviews but unfortunately I am hoping that a negative review will get someone's attention to actually return my call. This office is impossible to reach directly....that is not an understatement. They do not pick up or return calls. Instead, messages go to a call center where they go into the ether and simply never get returned. I have left multiple messages with the call center and they promise me a prompt call back, but no one ever calls. Unfortunately I was billed for a routine office visit because the office mis-coded it in their system, and I have been trying to track down a refund for several months. I had a good experience here with my little sister. Getting to this office is kind of interesting. The elevator doors open right into the main lobby. The entire floor is just for this eyeglasses place. The receptionist was not the sweetest and was actually kind of slow to acknowledge me but hey- this is New York. No big surprise. After signing in- we were asked to wait. They have a kids waiting room tucked in the right corner that was actually really nice. There was a toy, a few books, and a tv playing kids shows. This was terrific since the visit was for my little sister and waiting in the adult area would have been terribly boring for her. We waited about 10 minutes and then was called in. The doctor greeted us in the lobby and was very friendly with my sister. During the examination she and my sister joked around and she made her feel very at ease. We did the eye drops thing and she examined her again. I was impressed that they not only used letters but also a video of animals to test what she could see. The doctor did seem to get annoyed at some point when my sister was getting letters wrong, so in the patience department- they could use a little work. All that equipment and the task of repeating letters is intimidating to a 5 year old. The doctor found that her prescription wasn't strong enough and requested for us to make a followup appointment to keep her ... eye... (ba dum dum!) on my sister. When we asked for the prescription only, no one pressured us to buy glasses from them. All in all- we had a good experience here and I would like to try them out for myself. read more

I was referred to Dr. Jay Wisnicki by my eye doctor, Dr. Sarantakos. I had eye surgery when I was 4 years old to correct my misaligned eyes. It was somewhat successful, but over the years my eyes got worse, and the misalignment made me feel very self-conscious. It took years to find an eye doctor who told me I could actually fix this problem as an older adult. Dr. Wisnicki did an amazing job! My eyes are greatly improved and I feel so much better about making eye contact with people. I'm really grateful that he was able to help me. Dr. Wisknicki and all the office staff were always very professional and courteous. I recovered quickly from the surgery, with no pain, and was back at work the next day! So when I went in here I was very careful and asked multiple times if they take my insurance and was told me that they do. They said they take my insurance; turns out they took my MEDICAL insurance, instead of VISIONcare insurance and did not bother informing me, and then charged me for the visit in full. So when I realized that and called them, an angry woman at billing just yelled at me and and said 'we never take visioncare'. Well, how about giving your customer (cause obviously that's what I am) the correct information during check-in? Or some decent human interaction in resolving this instead of yelling and screaming? What an unethical way to practice medicine. I don't recommend this practice to anyone. If you have visioncare, don't go here because they don't take it (but they are eye doctors).
