I had my annual eye check-up in the Chinatown location on November 3. While I was waiting inside to see the doctor, one of the staff (a young boy with bangs) was rude and unprofessional. First, he told me to wait in one of the exam rooms, but a minute later said he made a mistake and wanted me back in the waiting area. Then right after, he called me back into the same room for a "vision range" test. When I sat down, he slammed the plastic eye cover onto my glasses and told me to read the numbers on the screen in a really aggressive way. He kept forcing the cover onto my face, which felt rough and made me uncomfortable. I'm very near-sighted (-7.00 in both eyes) and was struggling to read the screen since my glasses prescription isn't perfect (I usually wear contacts). Instead of being patient or helpful, he just kept shoving the eye cover in my face and telling me to "just read it," even though I told him I couldn't see that far. As a patient for over 4 years, I really hope the management takes into consideration how their staff treats patients, and this kind of behavior isn't acceptable. read more

I have been to this clinic for about ~2 years (end of 2020) and for about approximately 4 visits total (for the semi-annual eye checkups), so my review is not a first impression but an accumulation of experiences. When I first switched over to this clinic, I was, to be honest, concerned because there were many negative reviews on Yelp; however, I have family members who continued to come to this clinic for evaluation/treatment. My first experience was mindblowing. With my pediatric ophthalmologist, I only tested for myopia/astigmatism; yet in the checkup, I was evaluated with a variety of equipment (peripheral visual field test, for example). I am uncertain if adult and pediatric evaluation differ by, for example, testing peripheral fields/eye pressure for adults only; I arrived in the office like a lost lamb amidst technology. What was nice was that the staff were willing to hear out my questions and answer/explain. They did not cut me off or anything. I've also seen them patiently speak to upset patients from potential miscommunication over the phone or to address office policies. In regards to learning more about my eyes, I saw Dr. Tsai and she was incredibly kind/helpful in discussing my condition and reflecting on the changes from prior years. My first impression of Dr. Tsai during my initial visit was very positive and with each additional visit, this impression remains strongly positive. I noticed that some people in the past had complained about long wait times, yet I did not find it an issue. When patients make appointments, it's expected that they come on time or a bit earlier because the front desk cannot guarantee that the earlier patients cancel or do not show up, so it's reasonable that some cannot be seen earlier. I saw a patient's family member complain about this matter (they came an hour early and wanted to be seen then) in my appointment today; however, not every office can work around every single patient's situation and I saw that the front staff was able to resolve this matter without any rioting/tantrums from the patient's family, which is commendable. Another thing is that the clinic is quite small and they have limited equipment, so they can only test people one by one with the various evaluation methods. Hence, I can advise future patients that they will have to wait a bit but not too long. I came in for a 2:30 pm appointment (Sunday afternoon btw) and left at ~3:05-10 pm. There were a couple of patients ahead of me and one patient (3:30 appointment) was able to be seen at 3pm even though he checked in shortly after me. What I really want to highlight is the accommodating nature/willingness to help. I had another afternoon appointment in 2021(?), in which I was evaluated for contacts lens. I have never worn contact lens before and I was truthfully afraid of sticking my fingers into my eyes to place and remove the lens. I think I spent about one to two hours, attempting to learn to place and remove the lens because I have small eyes and fat fingers. I did not realize that by then, there were no more patients and the janitor was cleaning the clinic so I had stayed a bit past closing time. During the period of learning how to properly wear the lens, I was able to work with multiple staff and they were also really nice and encouraging in teaching me various methods to place and remove the contacts. They did not get frustrated with me even though I was so clumsy and dumb and struggled hard. They worked it out with me until I finally did it without potentially harming my eyes. I was guilty because I had made them stay behind for quite a period and they couldn't leave work but I was quite grateful for their work ethic in making sure I was prepared enough before leaving. Another time, I had ordered contact lens and they were ready to pick up on a Friday afternoon. The clinic closed about 5 or 6 PM that day and I was coming straight from work in Brooklyn. I reached the clinic at their closing time and I was super worried that they would turn me away because they were going to close. However, the staff still let me in, gave me my contacts, instructions on wearing the contacts and bag of goodies like eye drops and contact cases. TLDR: despite the poor reviews in the past, my experience was quite welcoming, instructive, and accommodating. Great customer service! read more

The staff wearing proper masks and sanitizing all contact surfaces after each patient. They're also very quick and friendly. The doctor was very patient and understanding with my concerns.. The optical has a big variety of frames for every face shape, and the glasses lady was really patient with my picky self read more

When looking for doctors you need to shop around - especially when you have crappy insurance with a high deductible. I walked in and the receptionist told me I had to front $100 even though they accepted all types of Aetna (to her knowledge). The previous doctor wanted $100 straight up because they only accepted Aetna "HMO or PPO" but not "HSA" (HSA isn't even a type of Aetna, but apparently I had "NAP"). Fact is receptionists are ignorant and the doctors who instruct them to take money from patients aren't any better. A good doctor shouldn't be theivin from patients. A good doctor would stretch the truth a bit on your insurance if they needed more cash because damn it, the working class pays Premiums. I shrugged and took my money back. More research needed to be done and later I found a doctor who didn't take a dime from me. read more

Wouldn't recommend. I waited almost 2 hours to be seen even though I had an appointment and showed up early for it. They are the first medical office I have ever seen that is cash only, which is extremely inconvenient. They increased my prescription from 3.25,3.50 to 3.25,5.50 which I told them cannot be correct. They also diagnosed me with astigmatism in my left eye, which I haven't heard about from any eye doctor in my entire life. The prescription they wrote me was so bad that I could see better without the lenses! I went to a different eye doctor for a second opinion and the new doctor told me the prescription was terrible and I definitely don't have astigmatism. To make matters worse, they took a long time to bill my insurance and now they sent me a bill for $100 on top of what I already paid for the bad service. 2 stars instead of 1 because some of the staff were very nice to me. I had my check up here and the sweet staff members were super patient with me. Towards the end of my check up Dr. Tsai also asks if I had any questions so, I believe they'd be be open to answering any questions you have! I went on a less busy day so everything happened super fast (less than 30 mins), but this might differ if there is more traffic. My brother had also gotten a check-up and he's in elementary so I believe they also do children check-ups pretty well. Overall, I had a great check-up here! read more

Please do not come here. My mother had a tear in her retina and the doctor here misdiagnosed her for having eye floaters. I don't know where the doctor got her credentials from but it shouldn't be hard to see that she had a tear in her retina. If you really care about your eyes, go somewhere else. read more

If you are covered under a Vision program and that place is within your network, avoid this place! They will do everything to take more money despite your coverage amount being superior to the total they charge. They will lie to you saying that the eye exam is not included (when I read my contract, it is clearly stated that the eye exam is covered). They will make everything possible so that you pay money upfront when other places won't if your coverage is high enough to support the bill. These people are scam artists! read more

A little introduction: I am someone who is crazy about my eyes. Instead of going to check them once a year, I go as far as to having them checked about once every three months; so I have had my fair share of crappy optometrists. The one I usually went to had an absolutely horrid attitude, but accepted my insurance, so I was stuck there for a while. However, when someone FINALLY had the sense to close them down, I was lost. Where to find a great optometrist who accepted my insurance (or had low doctor's fees- whatever you call them) AND were attentive with great attitude? My best friend has been coming here for years and upon her recommendation, I found myself wandering into this hidden gem on Mott Street. As someone who does not speak Chinese, i found myself dreading the awkward, stagnant conversation I usually have in Chinatown. However, the staff at the reception table was very friendly and professional upon walking in. All of them spoke in fluent English and Chinese, so there was no language barrier. There was one lady who spoke like she meant business, but she was never impolite. She just talked fast and counted money faster. I paid only $50 for a routine eye exam and contact lens fitting! However, for the trial pair, it was a whopping $75 - but the doctor let me try on THREE different pairs at the fitting, so I guess she made it worth it! The wait wasn't too bad. I waited around 30 minutes to see the doctor and there was a TV playing in the waiting area that had some funny scenes. My only complaint would be that their chairs were a touch uncomfortable. On to the actual experience. I saw Dr. My Huynh and I must say, I AM A FAN! As someone with severe myopia, I am used to doctors making hurtful, offhand comments about my eye sight, but Dr. Huynh was extremely professional and even went through great lengths to explain that my myopia wasn't necessarily bad- it is what mother nature has blessed (or in my case, cursed) you with and really explained to me what my prescription meant - a first, in many doctors. After we finished the routine eye exam for my glasses' prescription, we began on my contact lens prescription. She gave me an EXTREMELY thorough eye exam and brought three different brands of contact lenses for me to try. After trying on a pair, she would make sure the orientation is correct and have me read lines off a screen on the wall. Afterwards, she gave me eye drops to prep my eyes for the next pair of lenses. She explained that each had its different benefits and comfort levels and came at different price levels, so I should take the week to try them out and see which kind is best for me. She wrote me my glasses prescription and sent me on my way with some coupons for eye drops. We made a follow up appointment a week later, and I was expecting her to just breeze by with the prescription for the brand of my choice, BUT AGAIN, I WAS PLEASANTLY TAKEN BACK. Again, she gave me a pretty thorough exam with all three contact lenses and made sure they all fit properly. After ensuring that they were oriented correctly, Dr. Huynh then had me read some lines off the wall. Finally, we went back to the lens of my choice, and I read some more lines off the wall. Dr. Huynh truly went out of her way to make sure the contacts were right for me. After a bit more discussion about contacts and how to take better care of my eyes, Dr. Huynh sent me on my way with my contact lens prescription and some more coupons for eye drops. I absolutely love love LOVE this place! 10/10 recommend to everyone and will definitely be back! read more

Contact lens exams are not too shabby. It costs about $60 if you have no astigmatism. Definitely recommend it all the way.

I wandered in here looking for someone who could take a walk-in eye exam for glasses. I was told it would be $30 (basic exam, no dilation.) Awesome! I waited about 10 minutes; the doctor came down from the eye clinic upstairs and did the exam in the store's exam room. Everything was very clean and up to date. The store's interior is also very nice. She explained everything to me and was very friendly. She also informed me about the practice upstairs, if I was interested in dilation/ a more comprehensive exam and suggested I check to see if my insurance covered it, which I plan on doing. They did not pressure me to buy any glasses there and even let me know I'm free to do with my Rx as I wish, the complete opposite of another place I had visited. The selection of glasses weren't really my style and I didn't check the prices, but if you need an exam, I'd recommend this place. read more

Compared to my other ophthalmologist's office, Advanced Eye Physician is much better. The wait was about half an hour as a walk-in new patient on a Sunday morning which is as quick as it gets. Dr. Lisa Chen saw me and prescribed me some medication for my eye infection. I will be going in again for my follow up appointment tomorrow morning so I will give an updated review then. read more

I've been to this place twice. Once two years ago. The first time I had my eye exam done there, and the optometrist was super nice and knew what he was doing and the glasses were decent priced. I went to another place for the exam this time, but the glasses were SO overpriced. I went back here because I knew the frame prices were more reasonable. With my insurance I was able to get a sturdy and stylish pair of frames. The assistant printed up my plan and went over it and what I would be charged with a fine tooth comb, even added it up in front of me with a calculator. I only got simple lenses, nothing else. I have to say the charges were reasonable, especially for NYC. In addition, the owner (?) was friendly and greeted me when I entered and left the store. The assistant was also very professional, which is nice as I am not from the local community. I didn't feel slighted or cheated in the least. read more

Beautiful, neat store. I went there for an eye exam. The doctors are friendly. They provide a lot of helpful information reguarding on my contact lenses. The sales introuduced a better contact lense brand to me than my previous one. It's my second time getting a contact lense exam. The price is reasonable, and best of all; they do follow ups on my contact lenses. They gave me a trial pair and told me to return in a week to make sure the fitting was right and the contact itself was moist enough for my sensitive eyes. This is one of my greatest optical store I ever been to. In the future, I will definately return for my glasses! read more
