Amazing experience! I was referred to Dr. Jonathan Feistmann by Dr. Michelle Penshorn - to get a second opinion on if I need lattice degeneration surgery. Turns out I do/did for both eyes. That was on 2/27. My first appointment (right eye) was two days later on 2/29, and my next appointment (left eye) is tomorrow, 3/5. Talk about fitting me into the schedule in such a timely manner, not to mention the procedure itself was straight-forward, fast, and pain-free. No recovery time at all. Dr. Feistmann is a superb and outstanding retina specialist who it a true master at what he does. The office's support staff are also top notch. I cannot recommend NYC Retina more highly. Dr. Feistmann repaired the retina in my left eye about 5 years ago, and beautifully fixed the retina in my right eye in April of 2025. The 19th street office also has a fully functioning surgical suite, and that is where Dr. Feistmann repaired my retina on the same day I when in for a consultation. Do not look further. I'm sure that Dr. Feistmann is a very capable retina specialist. My problem is the office's attitude toward patients. The waiting room is crowded and you feel as if you are in a clinic. Every single time for the past few visits I've arrived on time and had to wait. Not a half hour but an hour, minimum, to see the doctor, sometimes as much as an hour and a half. And for what? Usually the visit with the doctor himself consumes all of a minute. I mean that literally. I timed it last time. Also irritating is that the technician is rough in positioning the patient at the test machines, pushing your head against the test machinery. But even if he was gentle, the actual doctor visit is so perfunctory it is not clear that he actually reviews the test results. He may, but he never mentions them. The excuse I am given is that he is "very busy." Well, so am I, and I have other doctors who are "very busy" who organize their schedules better and don't grossly overbook as he does. read more

This business is definitely grade A quality. From the receptionists to the doctors themselves, the whole team is amazing. My wife had to have retina surgery due to a detachment that was misdiagnosed by the Emergency Room and NYC Retina Manhattan was able to get her on their operation table and fix her eye. She won't have 100% sight in her left eye due to the error of the Emergency Room but, with time, and thanks to the constant care from Dr. Mei and Dr. Feistmann, my wife is able to live a fairly normal and healthy life without any major complications. read more

Was referred here, was told intially about leaving a credit/or debit card on file. Came all the way from uptown Bronx to see the doctors here. When I went to the appointment, I asked the male receptionist what was the reason for leaving the credit/debit on file? He said, it's on the paperwork. Upon reading the paperwork/ disclosure, I noticed the reason to keep the debit/credit on file was for fees such as co-pays or appointment cancellation or if the insurance company refused to pay the "medical bill" I protested and said my insurance does not have a co-pay and it cover the full medical amount, I have Aetna. (Corporate America has high salary, but I have full medical coverage) The male receptionist seemed frustrated by my demands, to not provide credit or debit card (he slammed the phone when hanging up) The sweet female receptionist suggested she will ask the doctor. Who told her to call the "main office" at the Queens location. On the phone call with the Queens location It was mentioned, that a lot of the patient have been protesting the debit/credit card on file requirement and that the Manhattan location can't keep waiveing it. The Queens location asked what issurance I have (ding ding ding) the sweet female receptionist said Aetna. The Queens office told them to wait for the "big boss" to call the Manhattan location back. Few moments later it was okay for me to see the doctor without leaving my credit/debit information. Well what you know! This is where things take a turn. See the male receptionist, with all his mighty testosterone was not happy about this. He rudly and boastfully stated this "time was a courtesy but the next time, I come I will have to provide the debit/credit info!" Excuse me? How does that make sense? This time I'am here to see if I need eye surgery, next time it will be because I may need the surgery or a follow-up. This is not a one time appointment, it was a relationship I was starting with the doctor. Who has time to play these games? You didn't need the debit/credit this time you sure won't need it the next time either. The whole situation rubbed the wrong way. Like come on! Then looking at the office decor and the atmosphere, it seemed it they were nickle and dimeing/ penny pinching type of doctors guess I will never know, I never got a chance to meet them! I fully understand it's a business, and from a customer service point of view the receptionist were just following orders. But where the female receptionist was emphatic and understanding the male receptionist was rough and condescending. Sure they don't make the policy the "doctors" do. To have a blanket policy for all patients is not fair. Perhaps most of their clients/patients are from Corporate America or those who don't have insurance to cover the whole bill, if they took the time to research and see my insurance covers the whole bill, that it really makes no sense for me to leave a debit or credit card they would not have lost a patient/customer. I never had any medical organization ask me to leave a debit/or credit card on file to this date. So those who are reading this, who are making an appointment bottom line, if you don't feel comfortable leaving a debit or credit card don't. Find another provider, like I did. read more

About 7 months ago, my right eye was distorted and blurry. I went to 2 different optometrist and they did not find anything strange. I remember I got panic attack on Sunday night and I called NYC Retina, and of course the office was closed. As soon as I hung up, I got a text message asking what can they do to help me. So long story short, I made an appointment with Dr. Feistmann the next morning, and he diagnosed me with CSR. He was very nice, very calm, and very knowledgable. He is an amazing doctor. Within months, my CSR cleared up. Dr. Brandon Johnson at NYC Retina is highly respected in his field. Medically you're in great hands. He is also warm, empathetic, and genuine. So the quality of care is unsurpassed. I also love his support team - great office staff who make sure you get what you need, and a friendly medical assistant. Dr. Johnson played a big part in literally saving my life. He diagnosed an eye cancer and knew exactly what to do, connecting me with the best specialists and then providing great after-care. When I was diagnosed, he personally got on the phone to help me get an appointment with a world-famous oncologist, under whom he'd done a residency. And when I had payment issues, he huddled with his staff to try to figure out options. Wow. Dr. Feistmann and his staff provided an exceptional care for me. Like most of us, I was terrified of going in for an eyecare. However, staff here was very understanding of my anxiety and did their best to make me feel at ease. Dr. Feistmann has excellent interpersonal skills and bedside manner. He was great at explaining my eye conditions and walked me through the options at hand. I really liked how he used visual cues to communicate with his patients (e.g. use of eye model and drawing on iPad) . While sitting in the waiting room, I was able to talk with other patients who only had positive things to say about this clinic and its specialists. I'm glad my eye doctor made a referral to this clinic, and I'm glad that I was treated by Dr. Feistmann. My procedure was very quick with zero complications. Anyone remember the TV show Doogie Howser, the young prodigy who could solve all manner of medical complications? If not, perhaps yo have watched the TV show "The Good Doctor?" This office is where they are based. Doogie here is played by Dr. Shulman, who saw me on an emergency basis when my retina was hours from being detached. Because the problem had been caught at the last minute, a side effect of cataract surgery done elsewhere, it was complicated, requiring three operations by her and Dr. Feistmann. It was scary. But she proved relentlessly empathic and upbeat - as well as an expert in reattaching the retina. I would have settled for her expertise alone. She also answered all my questions - and I had a lot - of what exercises I could and could not do at the gym while recovering, and when. There was no brush off here; she was a full partner in my recovery. And - here is where Doogie Howser comes in - I recently found out that this young doctor and mother of two was promoted to be chief of her department at a Long Island hospital. And still, she was cheerful, modest, upbeat. Mover over, Doogie Howser! Also, a shout out to Althea in reception who also keeps laughing and the atmosphere welcoming. NYC Retina is an exceptional medical practice. Everyone I have encountered is caring, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile. This includes the desk staff, the medical assistants, and whoever deals with nightmarish insurance issues (they deal with insurance so you don't have to). As someone who has been to a lot of doctors in my life, I don't take any of this for granted. I don't recommend having a scary retinal condition to anyone. But, if you have to have one, you can't do any better than NYC Retina and Dr. Johnson for your treatment. He is exceptional in both skill and chair-side manner, and his treatment gave me results that seemed almost miraculous. This is medical science and medical care at it's very best. I wanted to take a moment out and give a special thanks to Dr. Jonathan Feistmann for being an amazing doctor and taking good care of my mother. My mother has always had vision problems since childhood and over the years she developed a mistrust for eye doctor's. So when she became stubborn and unwilling to correct the issues she was having, Dr. Feistmann personally called me and explained to me the gravity of her situation and he walked me through what her medical issue was, what the correct treatment would be and the results we should expect as a result. He took his time over the phone and explained things in a way that made sense to someone who isn't in the medical field. He performed surgery on her left eye and it was a success. My mother never again complained about being unable to see from that eye. Unfortunately her right eye would eventually need a procedure as well. After her second surgery, she caught a stomach virus and was unable to make it to the office to get her eye checked. Dr. Feistmann offered to make a house call and traveled to a different borough just to ensure that my mother's eye was taken care of post-surgery. If that is not the epitome of professionalism and personal care, I don't know what is. In all my years going to doctor's, I have never come across one who truly made an effort to show their patient undivided attention and genuine care the way Dr. Feistmann has shown my mother. I cannot recommend Dr. Jonathan Feistmann and NYC Retina highly enough! He performed surgery to reattach the retina in my right eye and literally saved my vision. The problem occurred out of the blue one evening while I was walking home from work. I suddenly started seeing flashing lights in my right eye, followed by almost total loss of vision. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a detached retina. The ER Ophthalmologist said, "I'm sending you to Dr. Jon Feistmann, who is the very best retinal specialist in New York." I was able to get an emergency appointment with Dr. Feistmann the very next morning and he performed the surgery the next day. He is an incredibly skilled physician and surgeon, but he is also one of the nicest and warmest human beings I have ever met. I developed a detached retina and had been advised by my ophlalmologist to go to NYE&E since it was a Friday night and all offices other than hospital emergency services were closed. I signed my name at the NYE&E front desk at 6pm and the beleagured receptionist said to settle in because I'd be lucky if an *intern* might get to me by midnight, possibly hours later. I sat down amongst the pained hoards in the waiting room, and was texting my situation amongst my friends, and one of them texted back that her sister had just recently had a detached retina and highly recommended NYC Retina. So I called, got a recording that they were closed, but if it was an emergency to press a number and leave a message. I left a message with a description of what I was experiencing, and literally 45 seconds later I had two calls at once from two of their surgeons. Dr. Feistman was the one I spoke to and he was as concerned and compassionate about my plight as if I'd been his own child or parent or wife. In stark contrast to my situation in the NYE&E waiting room, I felt like I was the one and ONLY most important patient in the whole world, and he arranged for us to meet ASAP later that evening. He was already home way out somewhere on Long Island and dropped everything to meet me, even bringing his young son. From the moment of diagnosis to the surgery, he was as solicitous, accessible, compassionate, selfless, diligent, informative and generous as a human being can possibly be. He is like Ghandi, Mother Theresa, and a guardian angel rolled into one. The morning that he gave me the time and location of the surgery which was going to be at a surgicenter way out on Long Island, of course I had to find a companion to escort me back, as is the case after any anesthesia / sedation procedure, and being such short notice I mentioned something about finding a friend at this last minute, and he actually said if I couldn't find anyone he'd drive me back into Manhattan after the surgery himself (!!!). Needless to say I did not abuse that unbelievably kind offer, I found a friend. I felt 100% taken care of and truly blessed to have this miracle worker ministering to the health of my eye and saving the future of my vision. I am really mystified how it was even possible he has time in his schedule to add a new patient, he is the kind of skilled surgeon and model of human goodness that I'd expect would have a year long waiting list. If you have need of retinal treatment or surgery and can manage to become a patient of Dr. Feistmann's, you should count it as one of the most fortunate godsends of your life. I had never had any type of surgery before noticing a blurry spot in my vision one day. After getting it checked out at a local ophthalmologist, I turned to Dr. Feistmann to be my retina specialist based on his strong reviews. I was alarmed to learn that I had a detached retina and needed surgery ASAP, but Dr. Feistmann and his crew arranged surgery for me at NYE&E infirmary just hours later that day. I was naturally overwhelmed by the diagnosis, delicate nature of eye surgery, having to contact my family, employer and having to seek a second opinion in a pinch. But Dr. Feistmann arranged for me to see another reputable doctor in the same building as Mount Sinai before my surgery. The best part was that Dr. Feistmann was extremely understanding and composed in not only dealing with a concerned patient and his wife but also perfectly executing a complicated surgery amidst his already busy schedule. His staff was extremely diligent in setting up all the logistics with little notice. I can't say enough great things about the staff at NYC Retina. Late on a Sunday night, I was having a bit of an issue and was trying to figure out how to get into a doctor early the next morning. I was searching for NYC emergency ophthalmologists and came across NYC Retina. I called their phone number, but had trouble leaving a message, so I left my name and phone number on their web site to request an appointment. At about 7AM, I heard from someone in the office who was happy to get me in for an early appointment, so I was on my way. The woman at the front desk was courteous and helpful, and the physician assistant (at least I think that was their position) that checked me in and took my history was really nice. I was given a short exam by an intern (I can't remember her name), and soon after, Dr. Shulman came in to take a second look and to let me know she agreed with the intern's diagnosis. She was kind, compassionate, and made me feel at ease in a situation that felt scary to me. I had retina surgery done by Dr Feistmann and it was one of the best experiences I've had as a patient. He was recommended as being cutting edge technically and highly recommended for his surgical skill. I would have been happy with that. He's also a nice man. Easy going. No theatrics. He came up after the surgery to the recovery room to tell me how the operation went and make sure I was OK and that I understood the post operative directions. Before surgery his staff did everything to take care if the insurance , paperwork and hospital so I didn't have to worry about that. Having his office made it so much easier. I was nervous about eye surgery. This is the man you want. Doctors who are great professionals and care about their patients are rare.
