I have been going to Dr Dong for years and am consistently surprised by how incredible her care is. I never review anything on Yelp. Opened an account just so I could give this glowing recommendation of Dr. Dong. My experience, from walking in the door was great. Clear, easy, quick, thorough... All the paperwork you have to arrive early to fill out? All done online beforehand. I had barely finished checking in when I was whisked into an exam room and given a few preliminary tests by her assistant. Then I was told to sit in another exam room and that "Dr. Dong would be in in a minute." It wasn't a minute. It was like 30 seconds. For the next half an hour I was given a very thorough eye exam, with every detail of what she was doing, and what was going on with my eyes laid out patiently and clearly. I have been a patient of Dr. Dong for about 7 years for a couple of reasons - she is absolutely an incredible doctor and I adore her and Kathy. I originally came in because I was having issues with my lenses and she had me seeing at all distances perfectly the first time. Looks like there's a reason this place has so many good reviews. I had a good experience going here for my first eye exam in decades. They take VSP and handle the VSP billing, you just pay your copay and whatever goes above your VSP coverage. This is despite their business not being listed on the VSP site for some reason, at least not for me when I looked. I'm glad I called to confirm rather than just assuming they weren't in that plan. I had an emergency appointment that I scheduled from the website on September 12th. Every part was seamless, from the email confirmation to staff greeting. They took me right on time (3 minutes early), but the magic really happened with the visit started. Dr. Dong is so incredibly THOROUGH AND THOUGHTFUL. I haven't been blown away by such a high level of quality care in a long time. She went above and beyond to make sure we addressed and solved every issue I had and even though it was an emergency visit, did other more preventative tests which all in all made it feel like an even greater value. I had my annual eye exam (with contact lens fitting) with Dr. Dong. It was my first time finding an eye doctor since moving to NY and I wasn't sure how it would go, but I am happy to report Dr. Dong was thorough, knowledgeable, professional, friendly and definitely excellent! The eye exam procedure was as expected if you've ever had one before, but was done with care and courtesy. I am a contact lens wearer and she took a thorough look at my current brand and fit, and we tried others for comparison (ended up sticking with my current one but good to know it is still the best for me!). We discussed any other eye related complaints like dryness or seasonal allergies I might have and she made good suggestions. Her assistant was also friendly and helpful, even when I had to reschedule an appointment. Definitely a great experience and felt like I was in good hands. Dr. Dong was so patient and thorough. Her office is very clean and she has all new and updated equipment. She was very conscious of not making me get more than I needed (for instance, she said that she would not recommend that I get prescription sunglasses even though I was a little uncomfortable playing tennis while wearing regular sunglasses). Dr. Dong is a soft-spoken, highly professional and caring optometrist. My other half is super fidgety with all things eye-related and his experience was seamless here. She explains everything clearly and really puts patients at ease. I liked her so much when I came for my fiancé's appointment that I switched over to her from my old optometrist. My yearly contact lens/eye exam went smoothly and she gave me a generous supply of contact lenses to try on. Since she'd run out of a second type of lens she told me she'd mail me some trial lenses so I could try both and see which I prefer. Kathy handles all the billing and insurance and does the preliminary work up (glaucoma eye puff test, retinal scan) and is very polite and efficient. Dr.Dong is amazing I've been going to the same Dr. For years and I keep asking him if my contact lens script could get better and he kept saying it's pretty good and I kept saying well I'm really struggling with my computer screen can anything be done and he was like no. Dr. Dong immediately had a solution and for the first time in years I can see my computer screen with ease. I agree with Yelpers, Dr. Dong is excellent. I got my annual eye and contact exam done by her and the whole experience was seamless, even the admin part (thanks to Kathy). The environment is clean and conveniently located in Midtown a block away from Bryant Park. I arrived on the dot for a 3:30 appointment and was seen literally right away. I was mid stoop about to take a seat in the reception when I was promptly whisked away for my exam. Awesome for new yorkers in a time crunch wanting to stay on schedule. The exam itself was standard and straightforward: swap out binocular-like eye tools and read (or me being blind, struggle to read) lines of letters projected on a wall. I think the thing that sets Dr. Dong apart is her willingness and ability to explain what she's doing and why in language normal folks who aren't eye experts can understand. I ordered a supply of contact lenses and they were available the very next day for pick-up. Love it. The process of receiving a quote from Kathy was both painless, transparent and accurate. My visit was for a regular eye check up plus a fitting for contact lens. I only review things that are awful or excellent. Dr. Dong is absolutely the latter, without question. Up until recently I had only seen her once, when she was at a Lens Crafters in Midtown West (right near my office at the time -- found her on my insurance's provider finder). I now work on the east side and was about to do a search for someone closer, for sake of convenience. Man am I glad that I decided to stick with her (remembering how great she was when I saw her last), despite the long walk across town.
