We'd even take road trips across the border just to experience all that is Forever XXI. I didn't get it then, and I sure as heck don't get it now. Forever XXI is a mix between H & M and American Apparel. The clothes are designed for young, hip girls, and are supposedly sold at ridiculously cheap prices. I figured I should TRY to understand this store, so I recently went shopping at it and I now officially know that I have reason to not like it. The clothes are so ridiculously cheaply made it's not even funny. I bought a shirt for around $20, which really isn't all that cheap, and speaking of cheap, the belt loop hole fell off the second I took it out of the bag. I then tried it on, and noticed that the stitching is already coming undone!!! What a piece of crap. I didn't bother to take the shirt back because I didn't think it was worth me driving back to Balzac, but I did make a mental note to never shop at Forever XXI again.

Not only did I encounter some brands I'd never seen before, but they also perfectly hit my prized trifecta/venn diagram of shopping: bold and fun prints, natural fibers, and reasonably priced. The store has tons of floor space and is filled with happy colors, unique prints and a variety of styles. If I lived here this would be on my regular rotation. Staff was kind and helpful. I almost skipped out the door with my purchase, heart filled with shopping joy. I'd forgotten what that was like.

That being said, one of the only stores here that carries Levis is Mark's Work Wearhouse. I sauntered over there the other day, having not been in a Mark's for years. Nice! Ample, two floors, well labelled and categorized, high ceilings and good pricing. Of course you have all your working accessories, everything in great quality and work function able. There is also casual clothing here and killer work boots, perfect keep warm clothing paraphernalia for our cold weather. Levis are in both the men's and women's section and average from 35 to 80 dollars. There are your standard button fly 501s in both blue jean and black and 516's. The service is impeccable, I couldn't find the length size that I needed and the sales lady there made phone calls to other stores for me. I finally found a nice crisp pair at $64 and I liked them so much I paid for them, wore them and walked out of the store. Mark's keeps its standards going after 9 years which was the last time I was in a Mark's.

When I went to exchange it, I found out it was purchased on sale. I was only able to get store credit. I had to pay an extra 40 bucks to have a hood put on. It would have been nice to get the replacement for the same price that was originally spent but...would have been against their store policy. After talking to the sales person, who was super helpful and helped me find a pair of pants. Yes, that worked. Now, I just need to hunt for a top. Great service! The store, Ricki's is always clean and neatly organized. They periodically have items on sale. Great store. I ended up signing up for their membership card. Shops like Brooklyn, Henry, Bloke Clothing among others, as far as I know the only boutique style store that has closed because of the recession is Smyth and Kang. More to the point, Leo Boutique is great, has many brands and styles not often found in Canada such as Acne, but also featuring more common up and coming brands such as Nudie and Cheap Mondays and other great Swedish brands.
