I have never had such a terrible customer service interaction as I experienced at unique today. I purchased a Christmas sweater which I was already leary on because it was 13 dollars but I had a discount so I got 3 dollars off. I payed and as I was walking out I noticed a giant hole along the side seem. So I turned around to return it. Before I could even finish explaining the man up front cut me off and told me there were no returns and I would need to go find something of the same value to exchange. I was annoyed because I didn't want any of the other junk in there. But I could tell this man was not gonna budge so I found a couple things of equal value. When I went to exchange I was charged 3 dollars. When I asked about the discount and why it wasn't applied he just said yeah that won't work anymore. So I just had to eat the additional cost even though they tried selling me a damaged item. No apology nothing. He was actually quite rude. Who treats customers this way? I will not be back. Disappointing because I have been shopping there a while and have even brought friends along and suggested it to others. NEVER again. I know its just $3 but it's the principle. I can't support a business that operates on donations and then turns around and essentially robs paying customers. Disgusting. ​ read more

He said he was the only one working out in the front and we need to call in ahead of time to donate. I told him there is no sign to call ahead to donate and I've donated here several times and had no issues. His attitude was uncalled for. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to thrift! They have tons of stuff coming in regularly and i seem to spend 60$ there every trip. My one complaint is the dressing rooms are no longer opened and haven't reopened resulting in either, hoping it fits or buying it and if it doesn't you then have to return it. The check out is self check out which can take a Kyle bit of time but overall it's worth the amazing deals! read more

They are charging the same and often more than original prices for broken, dirty and used items. Ripped up suitcases $20+, a crusty broken cushioned chair $25+, used cheap costume jewelry $15+, a small wire basket for $14. Laurie was incredibly rude from the start. I asked the security guard how to get a large item that I wanted to purchase, but keep shopping, and he called over Laurie to help. Laurie acted as if she was bothered by helping, and said she wouldn't put a sold sticker on it and someone else can still buy the item( I literally just wanted to keep shopping). I also asked about an office chair that did not have a price, and she says no one could price it, and I would have to come back tomorrow. No customer service skills whatsoever. I having been coming to this location for years and I usually have a decent experience. This last time I went in was horrible. My 5 year old daughter found a very beat up view master. She has been wanting one for awhile and she was very happy to have this one. I offered to get her any other toy in the entire place because the one she picked was in horrible shape. I wouldn't have paid more than $1.99 for it, but she was determined to have it. So we grabbed our usually large amount of items and were ready to checkout. As we were checking out we noticed that the view master toy did not have a price tag on it. So I tried to find some help and nobody was around. I waited for about 10 mins for someone to show up and when he did he was probably the worst customer service person I have every come across. My daughter asked him politely how much it was and he said to go scan it. I told him that it didnt' have a price tag on it. So he then goes up my daughter and tells her to give it to him. She hesitates because this is her new favorite toy but hands it over. He then throws it across the room at a bin and tells her "Too bad and I'm not going to sell it to you". I asked why he wont sell it and he said to come back in a week when other people are working that will price it. My daughter started to cry her eyes out and he just turned his back at her and walked away. The item wasn't worth more than $2 and to have someone treat children like that should not be working here. We usually spend around $80-$100 during every visit but now we wont come back. read more

The BEST thrift store in the twin cities. Great prices, great finds, great employees. I always make a full afternoon out of a trip to unique, and never walk away empty handed. They've got fantastic stock and I'm so overjoyed I live so close by. I will never go to goodwill again, or donate to them, because unique does such a phenomenal job. read more

We bought a couch, got a receipt and everything, and came back within an hour with a uhaul (which we told them we would do) and they had sold it to someone else. Apparently the lady who bought it after us "wouldn't take no for an answer," but that merchandise had already been purchased by us, so it wasn't theirs to sell anymore. Then, when talking to the store manager, my partner was told to "stop all of this" while the manager gestured at her own face. "Stop the eye rolling and the attitude. Just because you're having a bad day doesn't mean you have to make everyone else's day bad." As if we had no right to be angry that she sold our property to someone else, not to mention wasted our money on a uhaul and our time. Also, we had already donated our old couch because we THOUGHT we were gonna come pick up this one, so we were left with no couch and less money than before. So disrespectful and rude. We were also told "this has only happened a couple times before." Hot take, IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AT ALL! We talked to the GM the next day and were given a gift card as an apology. We were also told that the store manager would get talked to, but I bet that same store manager is still working there today and probably learned nothing from this. My partner, our roommate, and I used to go to this unique at least a couple times a month for the past couple years, but we haven't been back since, and if we ever do, we definitely won't be buying furniture here. We have been telling this story to many people who said they won't be going back either and will instead go to more local thrift stores who treat their customers better. If you want to keep your clientele, maybe don't sell other people's things. read more

I usually love to thrift here. Lots of variety and good finds. However, the last time I was in I lost my phone in the store. I looked for over an hour and couldn't find it. The staff was very kind in person and told me that they would give the general manager my information and have her review surveillance footage and that I should file a police report. So I did, and I let them know I would follow up to see what the general manager found (if anything). I called back the next day and the general manager was in a meeting. Makes sense, so I let them know I'd call back in an hour. They said ok and so I called back an hour later. The general manager had left for the day (which is alright) but when I asked when a good time to call back would be both managers I spoke to sounded very annoyed with me. They said that they already spent all the time they could looking for it and that I really have nothing more I need to discuss with the general manager. It sucks that my follow-up had me feeling like I was an inconvenience when I'm sure if anyone lost their phone they would wanna follow up with and talk with the general manager too. :( The conclusion for the time being is that my phone is still missing and that's alright. I would've liked more kindness from some of the staff as I navigated trying to find it since their general manager is the only person who can see if I dropped it or if it was taken from my cart. read more

I like to frequent this store to shop, look and to donate! As for shopping...now that is an interesting experience... There are so many clothes, furniture items and nicknack items ..it could take DAYS to go through. Some items can be useful..others not so useful...and some can be classified as junk. BUT...at times you do find something that's unique...and very worthwhile your time! For the bargain hunter..this may not be the place for you ...I feel that you can do much better at the department store sales, clearance places and outlet stores..for something new and without wasting time hunting... I love donating here though...It's so easy to so that here...they take everything...and there's always an assistant there with a cart to help unload! Awesome! read more

Prices are INSANE! I went today because usually books are the best/only deal and they have now pri ced books to be more than $1.29 and there is no "Buy 4, Get One" promo anymore. A super used beat up board book was $4.44! Crazy! You can get all these items brand new in stores for the same price if you wait for a sale. I usually come to this one when I'm around town but mostly prefer the Burnsville location. I usually grab a cart and look around, find items I kinda like and go to a mirror before checking out to decide what I would like to keep to purchase and put away because Uniques DOES NOT HAVE FITTING ROOMS, but a worker there decided that wasn't okay. She came up to me and asked if some of the clothes hanging from my cart are being purchased or not, I said no, she proceeded to give a bad demeanor and attitude, she then told me to hang the clothes on a rack that I didn't want but in a rude way, as if I'm a disturbance. Please do keep in mind I am deciding and trying on some clothes by the kids section where I don't cause a disturbance to other shoppers or workers. She then proceeded to talk to her other Hispanic co workers in Spanish and said "Y el manager no les dice nada." "And the manager doesn't say anything to them." Lucky for her my husband is a Spanish speaker and understood she was bad mouthing us to her co workers. At this point I thought that was it, she got to express her feelings and I just wanted to see what clothes I was going to purchase and put back, but no... she proceeded to tell security and lied that we were possibly stealing items so for the last 10 min of me deciding what items to keep and going to the register I was followed by 2 security guards around the store. I fully understand retail is a pain and I have experience in dealing with it trust me... but the last thing we want is a escalating something that can be communicated, she could have just told me that she would prefer for us to put things back properly or whatever the case may be and I would have fully understood and would be more than happy to help, but instead she threw attitude, spoke really badly in Spanish about us, and decided to get security involved for no reason, instead of just having a normal human to human conversation. I did call the store after the incident to see if I could report/customer complaint or anything and they were really helpful and told me it's not the first time it's happened with that specific worker. I just wanted to shop and take some time to decide what I wanted to purchase, I was by no means being messy or rude, I wasn't trying to steal.. trust me ... the last thing I wanna be caught stealing is clothes.. at a thrift store.. I'm already there because I'm broke. If she simply just communicated with me and told me nicely what she expects of me as a customer I would be more than happy to help, but she decides to go and lie and just fully misunderstand the situation instead of speaking with me normally and talks bad in another language as if she can get away with it. read more

Moving forces you to buy all sorts of weird shit that you don't want to spend money on when you've just moved, aka when your bank account is already crying. Example One: We needed a compost bin. Compost bins at the co-op are like $40. They're shiny, and new, and friggin tiny- like, toddler-beach-pail-sized- and that means we'd have to empty it every single day. I'm lazy so that's impossible. We got a nice, big ceramic jar with a lid here for $10. Problem solved. Example Two: In a pre-move Marie-Kondo tornado of purge I got rid of all of our pitchers without asking and the manfriend was not pleased. Entire Kondo legacy was in jeopardy for a minute. New pitcher acquired here- and manfriend irritation salved- for $4. Example Three: Couch we bought off of old tenant had arms that hurt yer back when you leaned on them. After much handling of every pillow in their department, a clean-ish, soft couch pillow that doesn't look like it's from the Eighties purchased for $5. I was looking at couch pillows online and they're STUPIDLY expensive, like $40. WHY. Example Four: OK there's no moving-related reason I needed a cowgirl/prairie girl dress from the vintage department but it reminds me of Prairie Dawn, the Sesame Street character, so- what? You're gonna hold buying that against a person? Example Five: I destroyed our wooden spoons by banging on a metal colander "drum" at the immigration protest and we were able to replace those and get a handful of other weird wooden things (honey dripper? wooden hand dowel thingy?) for like, $4. This single trip reminded me of how ridiculous it is to buy things new when there is so much usable, functional, beautiful stuff out there. read more

First trip here and I am pleasantly surprised. Shelves were organized and not cluttered with broken stuff or empty Starbucks cups. (Burnsville Unique, I see you!) Good furniture selection. Prices were fair for most things. Only exception I can think of is the used Dollar Tree bins priced at $2+... which is funny because there's a DT Store in the same strip mall. One caveat: use the potty before your trip here. The handicapped stall is a decent size, but the regular one is WAY too small for a fully grown adult woman. All in all, fun way to kill a couple of hours on an otherwise boring Thursday. Definitely will be back. read more

I must say, this is the cleanest I've ever seen this store. Probably less people in it due to in person Covid stuff. I also found it interested that they said in a recorded message over the intercom several times that they are a for profit store and the earning do not benefit any non profits. The message also mentioned that they are now a Savers store, but still use the name Unique. I found some shirts, Target brands and mall brands, I did not find anything remotely high end. Unfortunately I found holes or stains on every piece of clothing I tried which was disappointing. They were marked at approximately $6 which is pretty high for Target brand with holes or stains. My boyfriend found some button down shirts which were marked in the $14 range so I just said "no, too expensive" for similar mall brands at a thrift store. We were looking for an instapot which we didn't find, lots of crock pots, lots of dishes, lots of silverware. My boyfriend did find a tripod for $15 but now that I'm looking online it looks like he might have been able to get a new one for a similar price. read more

Extremely aggressive and rude employees. My ex never had a problem here, but their male staff members are accusatory and very threatening. Rang up a lampshade today, only to have a man unbag my purchase and tell me that a price wasn't the right price on an item, and he'd be changing it after it was rung up. It's not the first time I've been falsely accused and been told it was my fault that something had the wrong tag. When I said I was going to skip the entire purchase because I am sick and tired of male harassment at this store, he got in my face and very close to my person and said well fine, don't ever return, claiming he knew me. I've never seen him before at this store, but had seen the young woman who -was- attending the registers looking very embarrassed. If you are a woman, do not shop at this store. Shame, it used to be a really pleasant place to shop, but I'm not giving my money to a for profit thrift store who will make it feel like an unwelcoming and uncomfortable shopping experience. I hadn't been there in a while so was surprised at the store being rearranged. I discovered that there was little to see beyond clothes and almost zero in the way of holiday items which is what I came for. I had an email coupon which I needed help figuring out how to use since all check out is self service now. The woman supervising that area was crabby and made sure I knew that she'd scanned the coupon and I would not be able to use it again... sorry? Won't be back. I like this thrift store, even though it is crazy overpriced. I'm from the Southwest, and I have found memories of there being a Unique Thrift in Phoenix before Savers took over and changed the name. The store is generally filled to the brim, and could keep you busy for hours searching through racks. And again, it is VERY overpriced, but they have good stuff...kind of a conundrum! But hey, new solid black Tom's, wedge heel Nike Dunks, and work blouses and sweaters in near perfect condition. A discount on these brand name items is worth the dig, and let's face it...their overpricing is still cheaper than buying new. If you have the patience and love the thrill of scoring something awesome from a heap of other people's discarded fashion faux pas, check this place out! Lots to choose from in this well-layed out thrift store, but I find it pretty darn pricey compared to other thrift stores in the area. I was looking for some long sleeve shirts or sweaters and everything I found was $13.99-17.99! I even spotted a pretty well worn (armpit stains, coffee stains, missing button, and torn hankerchief pocket seam) nicer-style long sleeve dress shirt priced at $10! I went over to ARK in New Hope and was able to find 6 long sleeve shirts for the same price as 2 here at Unique. read more

This place has a wedding dress for $40! If you are size 7-8 looking for a bargain, come check it out! The formal dresses have their own area, and semi-formal dresses can be found in the regular dress area. This would be a great place to buy a wedding guest dress, for those who don't wear dresses on a regular basis and prefer to save their money for something else. Nice variety of items and sizes. Lots of jeans. Brand new Halloween accessories for sale this time of year. Tuesdays are senior discount days so it was packed and the checkout line spilled into the store. Be warned, this place has a funky smell, but that's standard for most thrift stores. Employees were really rude to my children and I while we shop in the toy sections. My children were checking out the toys and had them on the floor and one of the employee told me they had to put the toys away because it is a safety hazard. Another employee yelled at my kids to put the toys away as they were looking to see what they wanted to buy. Will not return and recommend this store. Unique is a well organized thrift store with products moving in & out at high volumes daily. I sometimes go twice in the same week & find a good variety of items I didn't see the first time. Lots of great kids stuff, though it's tricky to bring toddlers here due to how dirty the store is (I do it anyway). Over the years I have found lots of treasures here worth much much more than I paid for them. Look out for 25% off days (senior day = Monday I believe & Thursday is 25% off for any VIP members, which is free to sign up for). They also do 50% on major holidays, but go early because it is a serious zoo of bargain hunters! read more

This is on the higher end of thrift stores in terms of variety. It is very large and also usually very organized. They have clear sections whether it's electronics, clothes, kitchen, shoes, artwork, etc. the prices are fair, although you have to really watch to get steals. Their checkout/payment process is quick and the workers are all super nice. read more

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet considering it is my FAVORITE thrift store in the Twin Cities. First, let me say I can't believe the Ben H. said there's nothing to buy here besides clothes. I don't even know where to begin because this place has EVERYTHING. I mean, there's so much stuff that there is an actual hot dog stand for you to refill when you are feeling weak from too much shopping. As far as electronics, lamps, etc go, they have an entire separate section for the stuff. Do you like useless crap like sculptures of dogs made out of corn husks? They've got plenty of that stuff, too. All articles of clothing and linens (and I do mean all) are on hangers, something you don't appreciate until you've gone to Unique and then shopped at other thrift stores. The prices are really, really reasonable, except on high-end names (for example, a pair of Nikes will set you back $25 here.) I'm in the camp that believes a thrift store shouldn't price something higher simply because it (may have) cost the original owner more. Every time I've gone it's been busy so I have never even attempted one of the holiday sales. I may love thrift shopping but you couldn't pay me to go here when everything is 50% off. That's like duct taping salmon to my body, throwing me into the polar bear exhibit at the zoo and then telling me to find a way out before I get eaten alive. No thanks. read more

Hmm.. Le't see.. I'll be steadily gaining weight in my belly for the next 6 months until I give birth.. Then I'll deflate within 2 months and need to go back to my normal clothing.. Pay full price for maternity? Not this lady! Ok, I didn't really wander in here to buy maternity clothing. I just moved to the area and took a quick drive over to check it out. After looking through some of the offerings in the furniture section, I had the wild hair to look and see if they had any maternity. I was not disappointed! I didn't see a single pair of maternity pants (Jeans, linen or work slacks) that were more than $5.99. What a deal! I also spotted multiple huge rows of shoes that looked to be good quality. Worth looking into. The rest of the thrift store follows that same vein. Rows of work pants, blazers, outerwear and accessories made this stand out from the other thrift store offerings in town. The space is actually quite large too! While it looks a bit out dated, don't be deterred from browsing the rest of the clothing and home goods. Out front - out doors, that is to say - there were lawn chairs, bicycles, and other out door gear. I went on a Friday, and no sales were to be had. That's OK, because I'll remember to bring a bag of clothes to donate so I can get a 20% off coupon! read more

Every time I'm in Minneapolis, I make the pilgrimage out to New Hope to visit Unique Thrift. Always on a Tuesday, if I can help it, because it's 25% off Customer Appreciation Day. EVERY TUESDAY. This place is incredibly well organized which is great cuz it's HUGE. I usually spend hours there. I only remember to leave when I get so hungry my stomach starts devouring itself. Also, if you look hard enough you can get some seriously good deals (i.e. really good quality brands are often priced just like everything else. yay!). Especially on men's clothes. Most clothing items (men's and women's) are priced between $2-9. But the deals don't end there! You can get good deals on bikes and and cameras n stuff too. And if you ever loose your cellphone charger, they got heaps of 'em! They have it all! Not really the place if you are looking for "vintage" or "antique" things though. The clothing in the "vintage" section is eerily similar to most of the other clothes in the store...I'm pretty sure I saw some early 2000's Mossimo clothes on that rack. Love this store! My absolute favorite choice for thrift store shopping. There is always a great selection of furniture (which I like to upcycle pieces) and an amazing selection of clothing/shoes mostly in good to excellent condition. I could spend hours in there! Stopped in today for new boots. I found a pair I loved but it was missing it's match. A very nice employee took the time to hunt it down for me--she found it and I was so excited! I like vintage things. One of the best places to buy vintage things at a decent price...a thrift store. Even though some of the items at this location are vintage, and like their name states, "unique"...I kind of feel like they are out of control with their prices. There is no consistency & there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the way things are priced (even worse - they are priced with this obnoxious grease pencil that is almost impossible to remove)... I like going here because they have tons and tons of random doo-dads and what-nots...and I love walking up & down the aisles rummaging through the goodies. I randomly purchase items at this location, but most of the time I end up walking out empty-handed...mostly because of their prices... read more

Unique Thrift is one of my favorite thrift stores, period. This place is HUGE and they carry all kinds of items from clothing to furniture to books to a plethora of cheap trinkets just begging to clutter your living room. Oh, and there is a sale EVERY Tuesday - 25% off Customer Appreciation Day. As some of the other reviewers noted, Unique often has some quality brands hidden among the dated duds. I've found most of the clothing to be reasonably priced, but every now and again I'll come across a brand name item that shows obvious signs of wear and experience sticker shock (and in a thrift store of all places!). This place always seems busy, especially on sale days and around Halloween (never will I ever again procrastinate and shop for a Halloween costume the day before). Watching the other customers really make shopping at Unique a true thrifting "experience." Think People of Walmart: Just Rolled Out of Bed Edition. Maybe next time I'll join the pajama party. read more

Nothing much has changed, but I'd like to update a few things I've noticed. Shoes stocked above clothing now have size stickers on the toes. This makes it a lot easier to find a pair that fits. Also, they've done away with defacing books with oil crayons and have established flat prices for hardcovers, paperbacks, etc. I'd add another star, but then I noticed that they sell used thongs for $5.
