Rolling the dice on an unknown isn't always easy for someone who spends over 100 nights a year in Hilton's and Marriotts. This was a dice roll that paid off. The innkeepers Adam and Karen were super helpful and friendly. Adam even showed me some of their pictures of the building from back in the early 1900's. This place is spotlessly clean and the AC is adjustable in each room. Everything is comfortable and welcoming. This building was a United Brethren church and then a United Methodist Church. There is stained glass and beautiful wood floors. It is an architectural gem. The only detracting is the narrow staircase to get in the building, otherwise a perfect experience. I loved the peaceful and unhurried experience. I will be back!

When I inquired how we were the one cancelled I was told since I was only staying one night and others were staying more then one night we were being cancelled. First, I scheduled months in advance. Second, the reservation was made at the military rate. When I pushed back on being cancelled the representative told me they could offer me hotel points. I asked what good that would do me if I am not staying there and was told fine they would try someone else. I asked what that meant and was told they will cancel someone else. Unbelievably unprofessional. For one of the better hotels in town I would expect more. I will not be staying in a Hilton again.

The breakfast was decent and well-stocked with fresh items. We liked the free cookies and popcorn. On our first night, the room we were assigned smelled like cigarette smoke. I don't blame the hotel for that, they can't control everything that guests do and it could have been coming from an adjacent room. Fortunately there was another room they could provide. That second room was pretty good, although the A/C seemed older than everything else in the room. It had that old-style analog temperature control with a knob that says warmer/colder, so it's harder to control the exact temperature. The rooms were pretty quiet. There was a team of college soccer players staying there and we expected to hear them but the noise didn't carry far. When we came back for a second night, we got a room with a modern A/C, which had a digital control. Both times the beds were comfortable and the bedding was in great condition. There were plenty of electrical outlets for our various devices (smartphones, laptops, tablets). The refrigerator was quiet. The ice machine was way out of the way so there was no noise from it in our room. The high ceilings were really nice. The wifi speed was good and the connectivity was solid. The only real complaint we had (and the reason this isn't 5 stars) is that the person tending to the breakfast area talked non-stop about nothing of consequence the entire time we were eating breakfast or in the lobby. We could even hear her from the 2nd floor. That was really disconcerting - we wanted to enjoy a quiet meal but instead had to put up with a company-provided motormouth.

Positives * Friendly and Helpful Staff: Every visit, the staff has been exceptional, always welcoming and willing to assist. * Outstanding Free Breakfast: The breakfast is the best you'll find in town, with sausage patties, eggs, a solid variety of cereals and fruit, both apple and orange juice, and delicious waffles, all included in your stay. * Very Clean: The hotel consistently maintains a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property. * Comfortable Beds: The beds are cozy and provide a good night's sleep every time. Negatives * Rooms Need Updating: Unfortunately, the rooms haven't been renovated in quite some time. There aren't enough electrical outlets or USB ports to meet the needs of two guests with devices like watches, phones, and laptops--and my medical equipment needed a plug as well. * Low Toilet Height: Standard room toilets are only 16" high, which can be tough for people with mobility challenges. While I was switched to a handicap-accessible room, the toilet was still 16" high (though it did have grab bars). According to ADA Standards, toilets should be 17"-19" high, with 19" being ideal. Unfortunately, despite many years of good experience, these issues mean we'll probably look elsewhere for accommodations on our next visit.

From the moment I stepped into the room, I was greeted by stained furniture, outdated fixtures, and an overall feeling of neglect. The towels I was given were folded wet and clearly used, which is beyond unacceptable. The complimentary breakfast was equally disappointing, with food that tasted like it had been sitting out since the hotel was last renovated (which appears to be sometime in the 90s). Even the safe in the room was rusty, though ironically that might've been the only thing that gave me a strange sense of comfort--like everything else, it fit the theme. To be fair, the view was absolutely beautiful. It's a shame the rest of the experience couldn't match it. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're really into nostalgia, enjoy the smell of mildew, and feel most at home surrounded by mystery stains.
