Just got my car's suspension and front breaks replaced by David and the rest of the staff at UAC. This was probably one of the best mechanic experiences I have ever had. They never tried to upsell me or add on anything else like some other places and I found David to be not only very polite but also truthful especially when it came to the final price. My dad works on cars back home so I did just for safety of course loop him in and he agrees on the technical end that David and the rest of the staff did a great job. I have a 1974 SuperBeetle that I bought on a whim about two years ago without a mechanic. The engine was solid but she needed a facelift. I finally found father and son team Walter and David and am both grateful and impressed. I now wish I had before and after photos! They replaced the speedometer, running boards, rubber in the bumpers, dome light and rear view mirror. They cleaned the head lamps, fixed the window mechanisms, solved the issue with the ignition, secured the driver's seat, reattached the horn, reworked the after-market stereo so that it turns off when the engine is turned off, and found a clever solution to closing the formerly mangled and insecure glove box (magnets!). A full tune up and a car wash and she was ready to come home. Walter cares about finding original parts and won't compromise on quality. They showed me a tiny gear that cost them $34.95, but it was the quality they demanded. Be patient, as the parts are sometimes rare. If you have a vintage German car, this is a great go-to team. I have to send a thank you to Walter and crew for helping me get my car back on the road. Part of my car is a Volkswagon Beetle and the rest is sort of homemade. Sometimes, I take it to a place to get it fixed, and they look at it, scratch their head and tell me it can't be fixed and then charge me a bunch of money before they take it off the lift. There are some good experiences, but most have been bad. I was a little nervous because this time it had to be towed somewhere. I heard about UAC and thought I'd try them. Anyways, Walter told me what was wrong and suggested a bid to fix. He had a situation that kept it there over night and the price went up, but only a little, He explained it and it made sense, so not a problem. My daughter's 2009 VW Tiguan was leaking lots of oil that the Pepboys by my house where I'd take it for routine maintenance (like oil changes) didn't want to work on it since the leak was too severe. They advised me to bring it to a VW dealer/specialist instead which is when I remembered my brother's recommendation of Walter at United Auto (I met Walter years prior at a VW charity auto show he would hold around Thanksgiving). It was a bit of a drive for me coming from the westside but with a full top off of oil I slowly made my way on surface streets to North Hollywood and the moment I pulled into United Walter was outside to see the constant drip of oil. He saw the mess underneath and eventually the source was the spot between the engine & transmission which made the job a little more complicated than I guess what Pepboys is used to. In about 3 days Walter had the car ready for me to pickup and happily satisfied with the work Walter had done confident with his fix since there hasn't been a drop of any fluid going now for 2 months. Not to mention there was a prior minor coolant leak that and a bulb he also fixed while he had the car. Excellent service and I now know why my brother recommended. read more

This will be one of my longer posts but United Auto deserves it. If your looking for honest hard working people that won't cheat you this is the place you want to go to! I found this shop randomly on yelp. Stopped by and checked them out and was very pleasantly surprised. I had an accident, and had been to several different body shops to get an overall estimate on the repair costs, but when given estimates all the other shops severely overpriced my repairs (most likely because I'm a blond girl). When I spoke with United auto they took their time to deal with me .... they showed me what it would cost how long it would take and reassured me that it will be okay. I'm one of those impatient people but despite that every time I called in to check on the status of my car and if the parts had arrived I was pleasantly greeted and provided very courteous service. They updated me and managed to finish my car even a day earlier then they had promised!!!! Which was great !The guys at the shop recommended a rental place, they really went above and beyond for me. When I got my car back I couldn't believe it - they had done such a good job that you low key count even tell that I had an accident. I've been going to Walter at United for many years to maintain my little darling yellow 1970 Ghia. He's very kind and friendly, and is a master at what he does. After wasting so much money at another place (that has since gone out of business), they still couldn't get it to run smoothly and idle normally. They'd rebuild the carb every 6 months, among other things! I gave up on them and took it to Walter. In a few minutes he tweaked my carburetor and made a couple of adjustments, and guess what? It purrrrred!! That was it for me. Walter is trustworthy, won't overcharge you or recommend work you don't need. I like that he tries to save you money. His work is excellent, and I highly recommend him to anyone who has a classic VW. I see other makes of cars there too, and lots of repeat customers. If you are an owner of a classic VW vehicle, this is the best place in the Valley to go for your needs. My bf owns a 79 VW van he's kept for many years. He's tried a few mechanics over the years and none of them compare to Walter and the guys who work there. The last place prior to United Auto couldn't figure out what was wrong with his van and wasted 400 bucks. After that fiasco, I looked around on the net to find him a mechanic who specializes in VW's and came across his website. Walter was able to figure out the problem and fixed it. I believe he said he used to work for VW back when he lived in Germany hence has extensive experience in the brand. About 3 years later, he still goes to Walter. His work is great and his prices are reasonable. In addition, he guarantees his work. As long as Walter's shop is around, this is the only place we would recommend to anyone. P.S. Went in for a tuneup on my 77 bus and Walt was quick and efficient. Had a minor problem with a loose wire and he fixed for no charge. Expert classic VW mechanics can be a challenge to find. This is my second air cooled bus so I have learned to be able to tell the difference between a good and a great VW mechanic. He has a deep knowledge vintage VWs. He says wiring and electronics are one of his his specialties but I haven't had a chance to test that out yet. He's not cheap but his prices are fair. He uses OEM Bosch parts, which is really great. He doesn't even ask if you want after market parts because, really, if you have an old VW the extra cost is nothing compared to the piece of mind of a properly running vehicle. I called to explain the issue with my VW and possibly set an appointment to bring my car in to get looked at. First the guy says he doesn't speak my language. I said you don't speak English? He said no I don't speak Spanish. I said I'm speaking English. Then he says not today, maybe next week. I said ok can I make an appointment for next week. He said call next week then hung up on me.
