I have a Jeep Wrangler for sale and a buyer wanted to have a pre-purchase inspection done. We made a 1:00 pm appointment for the inspection, but the mechanic did not start working on my car until 2:15 pm because he was "out to lunch." Even after he began, he kept leaving to work on other vehicles instead of focusing on the Jeep, even though he was already late for the appointment. What should have been a 1-hour job ended up taking 3.5 hours. To make matters worse, my car had no issues with idling when I brought it in. As a matter of fact, I just recently passed SMOG to renew the registration and you cannot pass this test with poor idling or a check engine light. However, after leaving the shop, the car began idling very poorly and the check engine light came on right away. I called the shop owner, who told me to bring the car back the next morning. At that point, I was already concerned that something had been done to my car during the inspection and did not want to risk further damage. With some experience working on cars myself, I did some research and decided to inspect the Jeep. I changed the spark plug coil, all six spark plugs, and a known bad fuel injector connector. When I removed the spark plugs, I noticed that five of them were matching Champion plugs with even wear, but the plug in cylinder 6 was a different brand (Autolite), newer, and did not match the others! This certainly caused misfires, rough idling, and the check engine light to come on. The problem did not exist before the inspection. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism and care shown during our visit. I'm not sure if this was intentional (fraud) or incompetence in Speedy Lane's work. Not only was our time disrespected, but the condition of my car was made worse by the inspection. Regardless of negligence, incompetence, or even unethical behavior, Im filing a formal complaint with BAR. Customers beware of this shop! ****Update response to Ralph, Speedy Lane***** Your response does not address the main issues I experienced. First, you gave no explanation for why there was an Autolite spark plug in cylinder 6, which did not match the other five Champion plugs. My Jeep did not have this plug before the inspection, and it caused misfires, rough idling, and the check engine light to come on right after leaving your shop. It seems likely your mechanic put the wrong spark plug in, possibly to make it look like more repairs were needed so that me or the buyer would pay you for extra work!! Second, regarding the injector wiring, only one wire out of six needed a new connector. The whole harness was not damaged, and this was not the cause of the check engine light or bad idle. As I stated in my review, the Jeep idled perfectly, had no check engine light, and even passed SMOG before coming to your shop. Third, you never apologized for making me us wait 3.5 hours for a job that was supposed to take just one hour. We made an appointment and were assured it would only take one hour, but the mechanic started late and kept working on other cars instead of focusing on the Jeep, so unprofessional! Finally, after I replaced the spark plug myself, the Jeep ran fine again, and the buyer and I have come to an agreement. I truly believe your mechanic intentionally swapped the spark plug to create more problems and get more business for your shop. Shady tactic hoping the customer will pay for the fix or come back for more repairs. This is DISHONEST and WRONG! Shops like yours give the automotive repair industry a bad name, and I believe you should not be allowed to continue these kinds of practices! The facts are clear - my Jeep went in running fine, but after your shop "worked" on it, it ran badly and had a check engine light. When I checked things myself, I found a different spark plug had been put in one cylinder, which caused the problem. That plug was not in my engine before your inspection. No matter how busy your shop is, what happened to us waiting for hours and to my Jeep was wrong. I hope you understand that these kinds of actions hurt your reputation and your business in the long run. read more

If you're reading reviews before taking your car here, please do. I used to trust this shop after a few oil changes with no problems, but my last visit completely changed that. After my oil change in September, I noticed an oil leak and brought my car back since it was still under their warranty, which allows them to check it free of charge. They looked at it and said the issue wasn't related to their work, which was fine. But the very next day, as I got on the freeway, I heard a loud scraping sound. The engine cover (under panel) that protects the oil filter and drain plug had come loose. I've done my own oil changes before, so I knew right away it wasn't secured properly. That panel is held by screws that lock in place, and knew a screw had clearly come off, meaning it wasn't tightened correctly. When I went back, I first spoke to the owner and explained the situation. Right away, he didn't apologize or show any concern even though I had to drive back and take time out of my day to fix a mistake that was on them. He just said "OK" and immediately went to talk to the mechanic who had worked on my car the day before. When the mechanic came out, he was already visibly upset and spoke to me in an angry, aggressive tone. I had no idea why he was mad, if he was having a bad day or just couldn't handle being wrong. He kept repeating that he "only took off two screws," completely ignoring me when I explained there were more screws on there. His attitude came off as defensive and impatient, more focused on trying to prove me wrong than actually solving the issue. Since he didn't want to take accountability. He lied and said there's only two screws that he had taken off and put back on. If that was the case the panel would've been scraping for months, not just the very next day. His explanation made no sense, and since I've done my own oil changes, I know what I'm talking about. The way he spoke, dismissive, defensive, and unprofessional, showed terrible customer service. He also tried to say they checked my car "for free," which I reminded him its part of their warranty, not a personal favor or an act of goodwill. Luckily, I had my receipt, because otherwise they probably would've charged me for that inspection that took maybe ten minutes of their time. After that, he just threw his hands up and walked away. They did fix the issue, but they didn't replace the original part that came off and instead used a different screw. I would've preferred they used the original part, but at that point, I didn't want to be there anymore after such a bad experience. As soon as it was done, it felt like they just wanted me out of there. No apology from the mechanic, and even worse, the owner never came back out or apologized for the inconvenience. The only person who did apologize was another employee who wasn't even involved. This shows that even a coworker felt the need to step in and apologize for how his colleague was speaking to me. I appreciate that at least one person took the time to apologize. He mentioned that the mechanic can be a hothead, but that does not excuse speaking to customers that way and also suggests this has likely been an ongoing issue. I work in customer service myself, and I understand that mistakes happen. But what really matters is how you treat people and take accountability when they do. Unfortunately, that's not what I experienced here. I thought this would be an easy fix, and it surprised me how poorly they handled it. I can't imagine how they would handle a bigger problem. Final note: Have better customer service and take accountability when a mistake happens. Don't treat your customers disrespectfully and be professional. read more

I had my Rack and Pinion, exhaust manifold and spark plugs done on my 95' Corolla wagon. The mechanics did a perfect and clean job, taking the weight off my shoulders in a busy time of my life. Everything was only $1,800. I know from experience how hard it is to find parts for my 28 year old car but, Ralph did a lot of research to make sure he found the correct parts as well as a tail light that I had trouble finding for years. Now I have to replace the brake pads and rotors on my rear wheels because they put faulty brake pads on my car.
