This is probably the best buffet I have ever been to. The buffet is always super clean and they keep the food coming and fresh. I enjoyed this place a few times while I was pregnant and noticed many other pregnant women there as well. Guess this is the spot to make a pregnant woman happy lol. They have all of the normal foods a Chinese buffet would have. They have a nice selection of soups and a hibachi to make your own fresh food. The dessert table has a nice array of cookies and of course an ice cream machine. The waitresses we have had were very attentive and cleared our plates frequently. Horrible! I used to LOVE this place. But the last three times I've been there with my family we've gotten sick! We didn't connect the dots till today. I bit into the coconut chicken and got a mouth full of raw bloody chicken. The food is awful and cheap now, and not even cooked. The staff are rude. And because the food is undercooked, I now have food poisoning AGAIN. It's bad. NEVER. AGAIN. NEVER. GOING. BACK! They also double charge for tip. They add a 10% gratuity to your bill then wait around staring until you tip them again. Never going back. I would avoid this place like the plague. They've gone downhill so bad. read more

My Husband and I went there for lunch on Christmas Eve, as my husband was pouring his hot tea from the pot into the mug the bottom of the mug burst and broke and my husband got burned on his leg, all they did for him was give him a can of aloe spray. The selection of food was pretty amazing however the taste just wasn't there. trying several other items and again and found the same problem with the flavoring. I've been there thousands and thousands of times. I eat a lot of chinese food and I don't really like coming to this particular place. The lomein noodles, are made from spaghetti, not traditional noodles. The shrimp that they have in most dishes still has the shells on them. However, everything is always hot, and fresh, everything is always coming out. The waiters and waitress are very nice and sweet, clearing plates and refilling at a fast and efficient pace. The place is usually packed on a Friday, around 6ish, so if you go with a big party you will most likely get seated in the back. It is bright, and there are lots of choices. So if you like chinese food I think this is a good option. read more

In Schenectady there are only a select few buffets around, and United Buffet is the closest to my house therefore I always pop in there when I get a chance to do take-out or dine-in. I'd have to say their food is pretty good and the prices are right. I've never had a bad experience going there for over 10 years. However, I went there earlier roughly around lunchtime. It was packed as usual which I'm use to but the crowdedness wasn't the issue. The issue was with the server. We ate for about an hour then was approached with the bill. We paid the bill and was going to hand a small tip to the server. The sever was very rude and demanded we give her more money just because there were more people in our party and apparently the tip didn't "accommodate" to the amount of people dining in and the amount we were giving her. I found that to be very ungrateful seeing as to how tips are NOT mandatory and need to be EARNED rather than expected. Overall, this is a very nice buffet and would recommend to anyone visiting the Schenectady area and need a place to dine. read more

This is the second time that I've been here in the past year. The service is horrible. To tip off the iceberg was when my family and friends decided to use United Buffet for a get together after a momentous event. First of all, we were given one price for the back seating area, when we came there it was a different story and we had to wind up paying for 7 extra seats that were not in use. The excuse was : "oh the guy who took your reservation didn't know our policy ". How does your staff... the one who's taking the reservation not know your policies and procedures????? Anyways the one lady decided to argue with us after we asked to sit down and discuss this away from our family and friends. She was very rude and threatened to call the police. I have never been treated so poorly and my family and friends will never come to this establishment again. This place needs to get their act together. Other establishments have done the same, and they're no longer in business... this will be the sad reality of the United Buffet if they choose not to get their act together. I will never recommend this place to anyone. We will take our services and tips elsewhere. Never ever again!!!! read more

I went to the newly opened United Buffet for lunch on a Friday with rather modest expectations, considering that there are many Chinese/Asian buffets in the Capital District -- some good, many not, none great. I was surprised and pleased upon entering the former Old Country Buffet property to see that they have remodeled and made the place their own, with rather attractive furnishings and fixtures. They have also added flat-screen TV's, upon which they were showing sports channels. The food was very good, including the sushi rolls which can be something of an adventure at a buffet. I especially enjoyed a spicy chicken and pepper dish, and another with shrimp and zucchini. There was a modest but fresh salad bar, and a nice variety of desserts. They also serve Coke products, which is a plus with my family. All in all we were impressed, and will return. read more

I can see why this place was so crowded on the weekend! They have pizza, chicken tender, fries, the standard American food as well! Good options for kids! Price is very reasonable $8 for lunch and $12 for dinner plus tax! Food are up to par standard as what a Chinese buffet should be! The veggies are great, not soggy at all! I didnt even try the crab legs cuz they looked small (did not want to ruin my experience). I liked the food from the hibachi grill! I returned today after being away for almost a year. Felt like having take out and decided to see if the food was good. Took a look around the buffet and after grabbing my foam take out plate I began spooning a few of my favorites in. One particular selection was empty and asked one lady wearing a red shirt if they had anymore. She said in a gruff "yes" and walked away. I included alittle more and waited. Another lady also wearing a red shirt with her hair in a ponytail just standing by the wall with apparently nothing to do. It had been a few minutes and the tray was still empty so I asked the woman again if they had anymore of this item to refill because I didn't want to continue waiting if they were out. Her response was with a raised voice..ok, wait!! Then proceeds to talk about me to the other woman standing against the wall. Soon the woman with the ponytail brings the refill tray and chose to give me a look like I had just spit at her. Then slowly makes the exchange with the trays...dragging it out as I stand there then walks away. Wow! Way to make a Customer feel welcome! At the check out counter I mentioned the two women who went out of their way to be rude and the lady begins to laugh. So please cue me in on the joke. Would advise anyone considering Chinese food to make their purchase elsewhere! One that will appreciate your business and make you feel welcome. To Management: teach your servers to be kind, pleasant, accommodating, And tell them it is not appropriate to glare, raise their voices, complain about tips and make customers feel uncomfortable! read more

Never in my lifetime would I think I would be writing a review for a buffet- not in the past, not now, not ever. But this place really struck a chord in me! My boyfriend and I came here on a whim- and when I mean whim, we drove right past it, and then actually came back for it after. The quality of the food is definitely more than average for a buffet and there is a huge variety! Most of the foods here are Asian, with a mix of Japanese and Chinese. Lots of Americanized Chinese foods like Crab Rangoon, which was delicious here! There are constantly workers refilling and restocking the food and I have never seen anything on the buffet line empty. I would say the desserts are subpar, but they do have an ice cream machine! The wait staff is not particularly friendly and definitely doesn't go out of their way to make your experience special. Everytime that I've been, the drinks seem a little watered down - sodas and lemonade especially. However, it's still not a bad place to pop into while you're on your lunch break with some co-workers. We love this place - we've gone about a dozen times over last few years on different days, different times and have not once been disappointed. We've made it our go to place for 2 New Year's eve (day) special treat. We are not buffet people but always look forward to this one despite the hour drive to get there. Food is always hot, kept stocked well, very tasty and fresh. Some of the waitresses are stoic but no issues, we like the ones who smile- but there are no complaints. Dishes are picked up promptly. We have never had added charges such as tips on our bill. It seems clean. The ice cream is awesome though extremely cold - yes, even for ice cream - your teeth will know it. I tried the peanut chicken for first time after reading another reviewer's raves...and now she'll have competition, deelish. The desserts aren't fab generally but I can always count on my faves: ice cream with little cakes and peanut brittle - works for me! I think most patrons are preetttttyy full after the main courses anyway, right? We've often seen the waitresses taking their breaks in the dining room eating the buffet food with chopsticks..that's speaks well of the food I'd say. After reading some poor reviews I actually thought I had wrong place and had to double check address. We go here as a special treat and always LOVE it! I like it best when the music fits the culture and wished they always played it...sometimes it's American, sometimes not, but...who cares. The place was very clean, the food surprisingly good, and the staff attentive and very friendly. I was amazed at the variety and quality of the food. It's a Chinese buffet which in and of itself is a knock. to me. I mean, I'm not a huge fan. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular. A limited supply of sushi but it was okay, not the greatest, but passable. A decent selection, it's a converted Old Country Buffet so the idea of a layout for a buffet was already there. Since I don't really like crab I can't say it was all that worth it to me. A lot of heavy, cheap fried foods, which, when all is said and done, not something I'd go out of my way for. Happened to be in Schenectady this weekend visiting family. They suggested we go to this buffet. Food is ok, large slection, from soup to dessert. However, the best ipart is watching the gluttonous pigs charging at the food to fill their plates. If you want to see overweight slobs dressed in their finest cheap stretch pants diving into a pile of cheap food, this is the place for you. Went with my wife last night. I personally think this place is great. They have a good variety and the food is good. However have noticed that the prices have been going up. Also, they used to have sliced ham, which I have not seen in awhile. Refills are free with the fountain drinks. My favorites are the pepper steak and sliced chicken breast with vegetables, and the mushrooms with pepper and onions. Their soft serve ice cream is also very good considering. read more
