I was very anxious about going to UMI based on the extremely low ratings-- ones and twos. But I needed a test quickly, and all other sources would take weeks. So with trepidation, I went. I was delightfully surprised. I arrived an hour early, and when I arrived, the waiting room was busy, but I was able to sign in within five minutes. The attendants at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. I was prepared for a long wait, but I was called about 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The technicians were also friendly and warm, taking the time to explain the process and help make me comfortable. The level of attention was better than I received at centers in Irvine. The test was easy and painless, and they got me in and out in a fraction of the time I expected to be waiting. The only reason I couldn't give them a five is that the facility (compared to Irvine) was old. One of the bathrooms had a door handle that couldn't be locked, and a sign on the mirror said the sink was out of order; use the hand sanitizer. Facility aside, the service was very good, and I would return if I had to again. read more

There were too many appointments scheduled, so the office was cramped. Due to lack of space, 6ft social distance was impossible, so I waited outside. At the front counter, I was asked for my social security card. I have never been to a doctor's office and/or clinic and the staff asked me for my social security card. Why? For what reason? Also, my breast was roughly handled into the x-ray machine by the x-ray attendant, who was unkind and did not introduce herself. Along with my mammogram report, I received someone else's City of Hope Oncology breast report when I picked up my written results. read more

It's a busy healthcare place. Knowing you are going to a busy place and working in healthcare, I can kinda endure the wait. I have patience for hard working healthcare workers. Sometimes things are out of their control. Such as the imaging center deciding that they won't make appointments for routine X-rays. This is usually a big misconception of imaging directors as they believe that routine X-rays are so basic and routine that they can easily be done and therefore no appointment is necessary. Usually, this process is at the expense of the patient as their staff will prioritize patients with appointments, creating unnecessary wait times for these so called "easy to do routine X-ray exams". What is definitely in their staff's control is their attitude and behavior. And the lady that greets you early on and sits at window 4 is just rude and seems unhappy to be here. At a time when so many people wish they had a job. She is so unhappy to have this one. She's loud, and curt. Rather than saying, "Good morning", she blurts out loudly to every person, "DO YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT?" In an unhappy rude tone and asks you to sign in and have a seat. Then again half the staff here seem to be overly unhappy to come to work. They are all walking in to the time clock, dragging their feet looking as miserable as can be. Sorry that the endless pandemic checks are no longer hitting direct deposit. But It can't by that bad guys. Lighten up. Or find something else to do that you actually enjoy doing. This is one of the places that doesn't make appointments for regular xrays. So you just have to come in and chance it. So if you're on a work schedule, it's hard to say. Maybe request at least 2 hours to be sure. When checking in, rude lady said it would be about 35 minutes to get exam. It actually took about 40 minutes just to be called up by a different girl at window 6 and be asked for my ID card and Insurance card and asked to have a seat. I asked if there was paperwork I could fill out, girl said I'll give it to you after. So I guess she wanted to confirm I have insurance coverage before she truly checked me in. Once she confirmed I had actual insurance coverage, she called me back up to hand me forms to fill out. The same forms that I asked if I could complete. SMH... Once I gave her the forms she said it would only be 5 minutes now for me to get my X-rays. It actually took about another 20 minutes to be called up by an X-ray tech who didn't introduce himself. Just led me a dark corridor corner and asked me to have a seat. At this point it took 5 more minutes and an hour and 10 minutes later from check in I was on my way. This is actually not bad time. Just wish they would have a better grasp of time and give you a more accurate time. And they did take a lady ahead me who had arrived about 30 minutes after me. Not the techs fault. It's just the funky check in and registration no appointment needed process in place. read more

The worst part about this place is trying to get an appointment. I have been trying for three days. No matter what time I call or how long I wait there are always seven people ahead of me. Fast forward it got down to five and then it was seven again, so annoying. I decided to do everything online and get a call to book my appointment. They called and hung up on me. Today I finally got through the queue online only to have it ring and nobody answers. I am going to have to call my insurance and see if I can go somewhere else. I came here once before and they took images of the wrong leg even though I kept telling them it was my left leg. I'm glad they were not amputating it. Not only that but once you get in it is way over booked. I had an appointment time and still had to wait over two hours to be seen. I would not recommend going there if you can help it. read more

I checked in, handed over my orders for a chest X-ray, and was told there'd be a 20-minute wait. The earliest appointment for an MRI appointment with dye was 2 months out. I haven't been to that appointment yet but in the meantime I needed an ultrasound. Calling various days at different times the hold time was too long being at one call the 9th caller in line. Called today being the 5th caller and decided to wait. I waited 31 minutes to be the first in line and then got a recorded message saying my call could not be answered and to leave a message. I decided I'll call my doctor to change my authorization to a different provider I've been satisfied with. Edit: Just read a reply from Robert T one year ago to someone who had the same phone experience as I did. Robert F apologized and said this process was being improved (paraphrased). I had an appointment at 7 AM for an MRI. I was the first appointment for the day. I received a text message the day before telling me to be there half an hour early. I arrived at 6:30 AM, filled out the necessary paperwork within 5 minutes and sat there until 7:30. I got tired of waiting and walked up to the window and asked why would they have me come in half an hour earlier and 1 hour later I was still in the waiting room. They called the technician and she came and got me in 7 minutes. I asked the technician about the wait. She replied that her shift starts at 7 AM and it takes 20 minutes for the machine to warm up. That being the case, why make me come in at 6:30 AM? Very upset at this place that has no consideration for their patients. Hopefully I will not have to go back there for any procedures. read more

This is for a family member who was scheduled for a routine mammogram on a Sunday. Yes, it was a Sunday!! Check In: They had 2 people checking in patients that morning, and our check in process was great! We were checked in by a young lady, I didn't get her name (they were not wearing name tags or badges, whom was at the 4th or 5th window to the right of the front desk). She greeted us, was super sweet, welcoming, and had a vey pleasant attitude. 10 stars for that. Management, give her a good raise for excellent customer service !! She gave us all registration forms to fill out and one more to give to the technician and said to wait for family member to get called in. Procedure Time: Family member's name is called by whom I assume was the mammogram technician. Family member says "It's my turn, come with me" so we both walk up to the tech. We say good morning and get nothing more than a scathing glower from her. Not a "good morning", "my name is so and so, I'll be your tech", or a simple "hello". It was as if our presence at UMI was bothering her. I noticed she did the same with other patients she called while we waited. I give her the form, she looked at me, rolled her eyes, and sighed. She then told me I needed to go back and sit down as no one could go in with patients. I am not kidding when I say it took longer for me to smile and say "Not a problem, thank you," than what it took for her to turn around and walk away without acknowledging me at all. It was as if I was never there. At the same time, my family member (who uses a cane and is elderly) had to try to quickly walk after her as she disappeared into the hallway. Boy I am glad she didn't fall trying to follow this technician. What was a problem was her ATTITUDE and ill demeanor towards us and other patients. I make sure to not return to places where people like that technician work at. I will make sure we go to a different imaging place if needed. Why work with patients or the public if you are going to treat them so poorly UMI, tell your staff to show some common courtesy, at least. It's not anyone's fault that they are mad at the world or that they are scheduled to work on a Sunday. UMI, at least you have a great receptionist! read more

I came in for a CT 1 hour and 30 minutes early, was checked in waited until my time of appointment just to be told I need to drink barium, I was NEVER told to do so. I was basically called a liar. I wish they would have told me I did when they checked me in. Then i waited another hour. Receptionist 7 is rude and unprofessional never coming here again also what's up with health workers wearing IN and OuT tshirts instead of scrubs???? This place is by far Terrible and unprofessional. On my first two attempts, an unidentified male says hello after a couple of rings, then doesn't respond to my attempts to converse. I went in this morning for an abdominal ultrasound appointment with Abbigail the ultrasound technician, her mannerism was HORRIBLE! No greeting, she asked questions did I drink the 40oz of water I stated yes, asked at what time did I drink the water I told her 8:20am she asked if I was in pain I said no then she looked at the paper then rudely at me and said well it says you're here for pain and I was shocked the way she said that I told her oh I thought you meant if I was in pain now and she rolled her eyes and said lay down, put the jelly didn't mention it would be cold and was just emotionless the WHOLE time. Doesn't she understand that people go into their appointments worried or scared and instead of being comforting she was rude and I will definitely not be going back and writing an email because I feel strongly about her behavior, she probably should NOT be in the medical field. read more

Not sure if the admin for this facility reads the yelp review or not and completely ignore constructive and poor feedback, responds only to positive ones or what. Seems that the issue of answering phone calls for inquiries, appointments and follow ups has been a chronic / persistent problem regardless what time of the day you call. Pretty frustrating , tried calling the earliest possible, hour before closing and inbetween, no difference. Let messages with no call back. Nobody answers at all. Are you short staffed all the time, or there's no designated personnel to do the task. Poor customer service. Wish health surveyors also do walk ins on facilities like these . This facility, United Medical Imaging-Downey does not take appointments for x-rays, but usually, most imaging places do not. I arrived around 10:00 a.m. There are several big signs posted that United Medical Imaging-Downey is practicing strict "Covid safe distancing" which I thought was old signs. Upon checking in, the receptionist told me very loudly that United Medical Imaging -Downey was still practicing "Covid safe distancing "and I would need to wait in my car, and they would call me. I told them I do not have a car and was instructed to wait outside in the hallway (although this is clearly another safety/fire issue waiting in the hallways) or to wait outside of the facility and they would call me on my cellphone. There are approximately 50 chairs in the waiting room, occupied and not spaced out, most people without a mask. Additionally, the waiting rooms walls were lined with people standing and outside in the halls there were about 20 people lined up on both sides of the walls. If they were really concerned about practicing the "Covid safe distancing", they would have taken out most of the chairs, gave appointments only like during the covid period. This was just a disguise for milling as many patients as possible for profit and greed!!! It was hot in the clinic since there was no air although I saw maintenance installing portable floor air conditioning units. That place was noisy and extremely crowded. There were elderly people waiting tirelessly. It took over 2 hours before I was called to window seven to sign a few papers and another 45 minutes before I was called back for the x-ray. Then I had to sit in a corner waiting to get my x-ray for another 15 minutes. The dressing "room" was so tiny I could not stretch my arms straight out, side to side, my elbow knocked the door, and it flew open while I was trying to change into the exam gown because the locks do not work. I could not sit down to change my clothes but really did not want to because the little seat was covered with a thin nasty blue trash bag for a cover and there was another used gown on it. If you weigh over 120 lbs. there is no way you can comfortably change your clothes! Still not understanding why I had to take my pants and bra off for an abdominal x-ray (I informed the technician that I had no metal on my street clothes or underwear) There was some discussion behind the protected door the technicians stay while taking my x-ray, he looked flustered and apologized for the discussion because he assumed I heard. The x-ray table had a plain rubber mat, but it felt greasy, and there was no paper cover on it which was a first for me! I just wanted to get this over so I could get out of that place since I had been there for well over 3 hours!!! The staff at United Medical Imaging -Downey are loud, rude, and extremely unprofessional. They were screaming out personal information, so the HIPPA laws/code do not apply to this place. This facility reminded me of the emergency room at General Hospital years ago where you went in sick and waited so long you saw the shifts change a few times or got tired of waiting and left, got well on your own or died! None of the staff know anything other than where they can get their lunch! Clearly, the only thing this facility cares about is milling patients for one reason only, MONEY! read more

She was very helpful and able to speak spanish to my friend and schedule her appointment because she's bilingual, which is an excellent help. If I could give this facility a 0 or a -1, I surely would! THIS PLACE IS VERY DIRTY, the staff are very non-chalant/unbothered by your issues or concerns. I was sitting in the lobby for over an hour (btw, I had an appointment @130) only to learn after waiting an hour that my appointment was scheduled in Bellflower and NOT Downey. I did NOT raise my voice, curse nor was I ever disrespectful to anyone in the office. He is a pathetic excuse for upper management (everyone needs a job in today's economy so I am NOT asking for him to be fired but he does NOT act like he needs his present employment). So with that being said, PLEASE promote someone else who is interested, loves their job and appreciates the clients that walk in whom they provide services for. My father was present and he could NOT believe the way in which Henry behaved being that he stated that he was a supervisor. I advise you NOT to utilize this facility at all. I am usually very polite and kind with my reviews but this office needs to be put on notice! Their office made this mistake and I asked if he (Henry) could call the Bellflower office to check to see if I can still come today. He told me he would call...I waited on him fifteen minutes in the lobby area and he NEVER came back out...TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and disrespectful!!!!! I ended up walking out, calling the Bellflower office myself letting the front office know that I called myself and Alma @the Bellflower office was able to assist me. My appt was rescheduled for tomorrow @2pm. Henry needs retraining...ASAP. I am more than sure if it was his Mom, aunt or sister (present for a bilateral mammogram) the treatment he gave to me would NOT suffice! Just because you are in need of assistance or care, that should NOT devalue the type of treatment, patience and care that any human being should receive. I did not have a negative experience at all here; I personally did not have any of the same issues as the other reviews. I can only write from my first-hand vantage point. This place is a true lifesaver. They took me in last-minute, and same day, for an MRI in which they seamlessly worked with my insurance provider with billing. I was very impressed with the policies and procedures in place here; everything was professional; quick; and almost effortless on my part, the patient. The building was somewhat easy to find; the large blue square on the corner. The office was ground-level which makes wheelchair access a breeze. I truly appreciate the technician for keeping me calm throughout my first ever MRI. I am beyond thankful and appreciative for the services provided to me at this Downey location. read more

A girl came out to take me and sounded like she was making excuses asking if I drank water, I said yes a lot. She kept telling me to drink more water, INSISTING.
