Now, do tell, why the Postal Service has been shouldered with the obligation of funding their employee pension plans for the next 75 years. The next time you FedEx, ask 'em for the 49 cent deal. The only time I hate dealing with the Post Office is over the holidays. I came to this location recently and stood in line for, oh, maybe ten minutes. The employees were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, as usual. The place offered everything any proud American could ask for, every package and shipping option imaginable, and a huge array of PO boxes. Self-service postage machines, hourly mail box pickup, the facility was clean and ordered, streamlined, including my favorite aspect of this age-old industry: the "You're Next" agreement. Essentially, this ritual involves the unprepared consumer (me) approaching the desk with unprepared or unfinished shipping materials which require a little work before they're sent off. I was told, as usual, what I had to do, and was guaranteed the next spot in line when I finished my business. I love this unspoken rule. And if the Federales ever try anything shady (i.e. privatize the mail service), I'm going Postal.

They always have patience and answers for my many postage questions ("How much does it cost to send a non-machinable letter to Argentina?", "Where can I find the Robert Panara Deaf Education stamps?", "Do I have to include 'China' in the address of a letter to Hong Kong?") To top it all off, this is where Kelly, my mail carrier, is based. Kelly is amazing. She goes WAY above and beyond. I'm going to paste in a story of a mail SNAFU that happened to me about a year ago. If you don't want to read a long explanation of why Kelly is amazing, feel free to stop now and just know this post office is a damn good one. Okay buckle up because this is a rollercoaster of a story: I spent the last two weeks hand-addressing (in calligraphy) 80 wedding invitations. They were beautiful. This morning I put them in the mailbox before I went to work - I was so excited to finally get them out to my family and friends. I even put in a card with a small gift for my mail carrier, thanking them for managing my invitations. When I got home, I found a note in my mailbox from my mail carrier (an amazing woman named Kelly), explaining that she had found my mailbox open and empty. Later on her route, she had found some of my invitations, a few open and wet on another street in our neighborhood. She left her phone number and told me to call her when I got home. I was so freaked out - clearly my invites had been stolen. When I called, I was in a bit of a state, crying because of how much work I put into hand lettering all the envelopes and thinking that many would be lost. Even though she was off for the day, she went back to her post office to pick up what she had managed to find and bring them over to me. They were ALL THERE! I have to re-address a few, but they were there! It turns out that another kind soul (a nice man named Martin) found them stacked on top of a big group of mailboxes near his home a few streets away from ours. He collected the ones that had blown away and put rocks on top. Then he explained what had happened to Kelly the mail carrier who related it to us. I can't believe the crazy rollercoaster of emotions I've been on since I got home from work today. I was so unbelievably angry that some cruel person would steal 80 wedding invitations just to look for money. Then I was relieved and amazed at the kindness of my neighbors (Kelly lives nearby too). Faith in humanity restored! Also, from now on, I will take important things to the post office when I need to send them.

I frequently buy and sell auto parts on eBay, and many of the items I receive are shipped in similar totes. In fact, I originally received this very tote from UPS when it was used to deliver a transmission to me. I secured the lid with 16 cable straps so there was no way it could open. eBay directed me to the closest UPS store, so I drove there with the tote. At UPS Store #0105, the manager refused to accept my package and insisted that I purchase one of their boxes for $97. After a lengthy discussion, I asked them to provide a written statement confirming their refusal, which they declined to do. I then took the same tote to another UPS location, where it was accepted in less than 30 seconds. For context, the package weighed 51 pounds and qualified as a heavy package. When I explained that UPS accepts plastic totes as shipping containers, I was told they weren't sure if the driver would accept it. So is the issue the material or the size of the tote? Their uncertainty made it clear that they were making decisions without knowing UPS policy. In reality, it seemed they simply didn't want to accept it because of its larger size. Education is key. I strongly recommend that the management ensure staff are properly trained to handle shipments according to UPS policy.

However my experience today was wonderful. The service was quick and friendly. The postal worker greeted me as I walked in and was cheerful as he assisted all of us in line. This post office is the best one I've been to in New Mexico!…read more Service is super friendly and efficient, so basically you feel like you're anywhere but a post office! It's usually the same gentleman behind the counter, and he answers questions with patience and a smile. The building is very small so there may be a few services this location doesn't do but so far everything we've needed (including sending registered mail) has been a breeze, and they do have P.O. Boxes. The building is actually on 4th Street so its easy access and parking is along the North side, as well as in the lot behind. Note they're closed for lunch from 11:30-12.

I like that this post office has a kiosk to buy stamps and mailing things out can be quite easier…read morethan most other post offices, but if one is picking up mail or anything else, one has to wait forever. I came in yesterday because I paid for a mailbox online and was going to get the key, but the woman at the desk was very rude and wouldn't give me the key because my driver's license had a different address. I showed her my renter's lease and identification but she said that she couldn't help me. I couldn't get a better reason than that, and it frustrated me, so I left. I haven't had my heart race in annoyance before, and I needed to get out of her negative energy. So, I left. I have to get a mailbox soon, so I have to go back, I just hope that I don't run into that again.

It's the first time I've had to deal with the staff, and ask three of them added to a colossal non service experience. They might as well get rid of the humans here since their only purpose is to direct you to the kiosks....I generally use kiosks, and prefer when possible to do so, but I'm this case there were lines in front of both, so I thought I'd try a human.
