I came in for a simple transaction and said hello when I walked in. Instead of being greeted professionally, the employee looked at me with a blank, lifeless expression, as if I didn't exist, and simply told me to wait, even though there was no one else there. She gave me a condescending attitude and made me feel as though I didn't know what I was doing. When it was finally my turn, she seemed more interested in avoiding the transaction than helping me and told me I could just use the kiosk instead. Customer service requires basic respect and professionalism, and unfortunately I experienced neither today. A Middle Aged + woman with short grayish hair was not only unhelpful with information on when I could come back, but was downright rude and unprofessional. This is one of many times I've encountered her and have had her be rude to me and other people as well. I went back today with my documents and a young lady named Shawnte assisted me. OMG, she was so pleasant and helpful, she patiently took care of my documents and gave clear instructions, at the same time assisted other customers just as efficiently and friendly as she did me. It is refreshing to receive this type of service AGAIN! I have gone to several USPS locations in Rockville, Bethesda, Kensington, College Park and now Beltsville. I have to say the service and tone of this Beltsville location is superior than the others. I say it's refreshing because in today's world the type of service we receive is horrible. It's absolutely horrible to call any business for assistance and receive appropriate service. We're lucky to get a person on the phone and one who can actually resolve the issue. The Merrifield Post Office, using post office logic, removed all but one small drop box in the…read moredrive-thru lane. And without adding pickup times, this remaining box rapidly fills up. This morning, I stopped to mail four items, and found that the box was stuffed full. Not wanting to leave my items exposed to whatever, I tried retrieving them. Along with them came half a dozen of other people's mail items. Being a good citizen, I did the post office's work. Entering through the only operating door (for at least the last week), I dropped the entire batch inside. This would be a classic example of Zohran Mandami's definition of bureaucratic complacency on the part of the post office. The Merrifield Post Office is beyond disreputable and dysfunctional. My only reason for using it is convenience, but even that is becoming shaky.

Amazon handed the package off to USPS who was in possession of the package from the very beginning, with this post office handling it for days. When I went to our mailbox to grab our package I noticed instantly that it was light as air - literally - the box was completely empty. Somebody within the post office opened the package, stole the AirPods, and taped it shut again with clear packaging tape. This type of theft is a known issue with this particular post office. Two years ago, I dropped off a hefty disability paperwork packet for our daughter - her social security number on every page. The packet never left the post office despite me paying for it to be mailed certified. We have also received greetings cards that have been opened - I'm sure somebody was hoping to find cash or a gift card. The postmaster general could care less and the manager at the post office claims that she is incapable of stopping this type of criminal behavior. People in our community have had checks washed and rewritten and far more valuable items stolen. It's a shame because I'm sure that there are a handful of good, upstanding employees who work there, however, many others are criminals committing a federal crime with their mail tampering and theft.
