I was here last week and the staff was great, there was a white heavy set guy with a limp, a black woman who reminded me of the principal on Abbott Elementary and a young girl that reminded me of the rapper.. lil mama. They were helpful & pleasant to the customers. They spoke with a respectful, pleasant customer service tone. Eye contact, smiling. Lovely... it was lovely. Ok now fast forward to this Saturday. There was a heavy set black woman with short hair and a Muslim woman. I left there thinking... this is Mawndawmin behavior but then again, it wasn't. They were worse than that. They both were loud & unpleasant. No smile, no eye contact. Harsh tones, Bullied the customers. Rude... just blatantly rude. To everyone. Any redirection (no, not help,,, redirection was done in a way to humiliate the customer). Their lack of civility to literally everyone was honestly atrocious. People just casually walking through the door to mail a package, not knowing they have entered a lion's den of buffoonery and are about to be their next victim to demean & embarrass loudly/publicly for no justified reason. This is very much their behavior as I observed them behave this way with at least unsuspecting 10 customers. One lady walked out saying loudly (yet sarcastically) this place has GREAT customer service. The heavier one tried to argue with me when I explained to her why people were still arriving after 4p. I had to tell her "you will NOT argue with me". She was so ignorant & defensive that she wouldn't even accept the explanation of why they were still arriving. I honestly wanted to scream shut up and put on your listening cap! In hospitality, when a worker can work but are uncouth or aesthetically not well received, they are placed in the back of the house so no one sees them & they work mostly solo. I'd suggest that would be the best option here for these two, The lobby was under stocked and many cubby holes missing envelopes & shippers. The only tape available is tape they don't want you to use. They use to offer a plain shopping tape. It's as if they take no pride in their chosen career or the state of the post office. Whomever is managing this location, needs to be reassessed because service of this low life level is unacceptable everywhere & to everyone. Sadly, this is the post office on my area. I pray that both of these women were replacements. Life is hard enough and the last thing anyone needs is to be abused by postal workers who are paid directly through the customers hard work. read more

Rude, unprofessional, agressive 'supervisor' (?). Not the first time someone pretends to be a manager, so will leave some room for doubt if there is an actual one. Not like many of us need to use a postal office anymore, but if you think you do (as did I) avoid this one at all costs. Maybe it will ultimately run out of business, since no one seems to care. Not Anthony for sure. I would blame the full moon, but I'm convinced these are just characteristically miserable, rude people who happen to have the privilege of working at a USPS facility (yes, work is a privilege these days). read more

I mailed a box this morning at the Oak Hall Ln, Columbia, MD., location. Fragile/Glass was written all over. The clerk, unfriendly to begin with, was manhandling the box when we were done, so I said, be careful, it's fragile. She said that I did not pay for 'special handling,' so she did not need to be careful with it. Essentially, she can mistreat the box because I didn't pay extra for her to be careful. It was not a service that was offered-how would I know that? and even if I didn't pay, it does not mean they can manhandle packages at will. Another clerk got involved to repeat that I needed to pay for special handling, like my request was so unreasonable. Terrible customer service and terrible work ethic. read more

This is not the first time this has happened and of course I needed this package and it arrived at my local regional facility and said expected by 9pm on Dec. 9th to now being at the Washington DC regional destination facility which is nowhere near but the Baltimore facility was close so I called my local post office and of course she couldn't help at all and said may be wrong barcode. I always order this from the same company and get it in 4-5 days and now we're on day 9 with no delivery date and this was something I really needed before I fly out on Sunday!!! The female at local post office didn't even say goodbye she just hung up!! I get this is a busy time of year but to send it to the wrong regional facility is not ok!! So who knows when or if I will even get this and this is something that really helps with my lupus so now I have to go without!! read more

I made an appointment at this location for a passport picture. The young lady who works at this location was awesome. She took my picture, sold me a money order and mailed to envelopes for me. I was in and out within ten minutes. In the future, I will be conducting all of my business at this location! read more

I actually dread this post office so much, I try to visit literally ANY other location in the Howard County area before I make my way to this one. However, it is the main post office that handles our mail, so sometimes we do not have a choice. The employees here are always rude to customers. No smiling, rare to get a greeting, and overall just unwelcoming. They have a self-service kiosk that sometimes doesn't work or they remove the bin, so there's nowhere to drop off the package once you're done. When this happens, I have to go stand in line to get a receipt for a drop off but while I'm in line or get to the counter, I get angrily told "Use the kiosk" or "You couldn't do this at the kiosk?" which I honestly would rather use the kiosk then have to deal with their rude customer service!! I used to think it was only like this right before closing, maybe they had a long day, but no matter what time of day I've been to that post office, I've always had an unpleasant experience. I opened a P.O. Box at this location for several reasons: 1. The post office near my house closed and my packages were being rerouted 5 miles away to the craptastic Brooklyn post office. 2. Sometimes my packages were left on my front porch in downtown Baltimore and stolen - despite multiple conversations with the mail carrier about not leaving unattended packages on my porch. 3. This Columbia post office is close to my job and I'm able to quickly check my P.O. Box regularly. 4. There is ample FREE parking. 5. This post office doesn't look rundown and awful (like Brooklyn, MD). It's clean and well organized. 6. This location is full service. I typically have no problem getting my packages in the event they don't fit in my box. Sometimes there's a wait. Sometimes a customer in front of me has such an issue that I just leave, but I know I can come back later or the next day so it's not a big deal. The USPS workers who retrieve my packages are always nice and pleasant to me. That said, I don't really use the other services offered at the post office. I rarely send packages, my passport is up to date, etc. But I hope if I did need something other than package pickup, it would be done with ease. read more

My wife and i went there to get a passport for my 1 year old baby today. Their office hours and walk-in time on Saturdays is from 8am-3pm. But we manage to get inside their lobby by 2:30pm. When we got inside i notice their ticketing machine run out of paper so we were not able to get a number for my child. So we decided to wait for couple of hours until a male clerk(with dreadlocks hair wearing glasses) had come out from a door and started calling all the people who were able to get a ticket number from 115-127. I politely asked if he could still take my child's passport application. But he simply refused to help us and sent us away. My wife and i were really unhappy with our experience in this post office as we drive away home. Now i had to wait for my next day off next week to get it done. However we don't plan on coming back here for this horrible customer service experience! read more

The frustrating point with this place is that they defeat the entire purpose of 24/7 access to prep mail by locking the package drop box. So now, I have a ready-to-mail package, but can't drop it off. Now I'm making two trips to the PO. The staff is hit or miss when it comes to friendliness and helpfulness. They don't know about their own services such as Street Addressing. I had to go to the PO on Wincopin Circle to get a Street Address box. Otherwise, it gets the basic job done. They have passport services (during certain hours) too. read more

USPS Columbia MD Oak Hall I am rating them 4 stars but I agree with many of the 1 & 2 Star comments also. Customer Service is Hit or Miss. I have been lucky recently, the lines have not been long when I am there. Actually, they have a rush between 430 - 530pm and at lunch time during the week. The Columbia USPS tries to move their customers along as quickly as possible. They seem to be a little under-staffed. But there is something missing in the USPS' approach to customers. The Columbia location has been helping me with a problem I have with a USPS in another state. They offered suggestions to resolve the issues and refunded my fees whenever the other facility came up short. But the USPS has not been able to resolve the underlying problem. They should consistently open their drive-thru. I doubt that Columbia reads the Yelp reviews. read more

This place is massive. We went on a Satuday morning (I know who does this to themselves!) and there was no line. I should've used the automatic kiosks. I love them and they are super efficient. I'm not sure what was going on with the systems at the counter but the lady rang up all my boxes on a phone swiper and then the system was funky and kept freezing when it came time to read my credit card. So she had to ring everything up again on the normal register and print out different labels. Bizarre set up. But there are tons of boxes already assembled to help out customers. There's cards and all the packing supplies you need. They really do think ahead. read more

This post office is a joke. They only have like 1 person at any given time. They have finally put in an additional self service kiosk. Which is probably being used by some old lady trying to print individual stamps for her retirement party, rather than buying a 40stamp pack. Place also smells funny. Go at night to avoid all the stress. I would actually recommend that you buy one of those cheap food scales at Target and weigh your own postage. Try avoiding this place. read more

I use this post office weekly to ship out a variety of things I sell on eBay or car forums. I love the kiosks, but this review is for the people who work there. Excluding one nice lady (I'm sorry, I don't remember her name - will add it when I go again), the workers here are downright lazy and rude. Perhaps you get some ignorant folk who come in, not knowing how to mail a package - but who in their right mind would assume every American civilian knows how to operate USPS' complicated shipping process? That is why they have brick and mortar locations - to help people ship things. There is one fellow in particular, Anthony, that has given me a terrible experience/hassle time and time again. In summary, the kiosks are nicer than the people. Here's one vote for firing the staff and replacing them with more kiosks. read more

Popped in to mail a gift and really didn't want to stand in line so I utilized the self service kiosk. It was very user friendly and accepts credit cards for payment. They have multiple kiosks so there wasn't a line and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I make it a point to bring a pen with me to the post office in the event I have to fill out the priority labels. At the kiosk, it'll ask you to indicate the address or the zip code of the package's destination & it will print on the postage label that comes out. Nice, neat and legible. I'm happy to say the gift arrived on time as promised and I was able to use the package tracking to keep up with its movements. Depending on what you are sending most priority mail boxes come with $50 of insurance. The parking lot was easy to manuever and not overly crowded. This facility was well maintained with supplies and its appearance. read more

There's no denying that the USPS is in competition with the DMV for the title of most miserable staff ever, but I had a surprisingly great experience at the passport office here today. Anyone trying to get a passport in a timely manner is aware that the majority of passport acceptance facilities require appointments and they're booked for months. The ones that do allow walk-ins, at least in Northern Virginia where I live, have lines in front prior to the doors opening as if people are camping out for big screen TVs on black Friday (Yes, I'm talking about the Merrifield Post Office.) This post office was an exception to all of that though. They opened at 8:00 AM, I didn't get there until about 8:30. There was a sign in sheet in the passport office, I think I was the sixth person on the sheet, but four were already crossed off, and the family ahead of me completed all of their applications in blue ink, so I got to go ahead of them while they filled out new applications in black ink. The woman running the desk was really friendly. I completed my forms online, but the printer I used automatically printed them double-sided. That's not allowed, and just before she was about to make me fill out new forms by hand, she tried to run them through her copier first to see if she could make them single-sided while preserving the quality. The copies looked clean, so she snapped my picture, let me pay using my debit card, helped me fill out a money order addressed to the state department, and had me swear an oath that all of the information I provided was accurate. It was overall a really pleasant experience. I was in and out in five minutes, and the woman's positive and helpful attitude really made it feel like no time at all. My tips for getting a passport here: -Fill out your forms online and print them out, single sided! http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/apply.html -If you don't fill out your forms online, be sure to use a black ink pen! -Make sure you have all of the correct documents with you (old passport, original birth certificate, etc.) -If your driver's license is from out-of-state (I'm a VA driver), have a second form of ID (I had a government ID that was acceptable) -Bring a debit card to pay -Be friendly to the lady behind the counter, she's awesome! This has to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, passport office in the entire DMV region. If you're in a rush to get a passport, get your shit together and go here! read more

Every time I come here I dread it because it's so disappointing. There is always a line and it takes forever to get through. Nothing is labeled or in order so it can be difficult if you are trying to figure out which label you need in order to ship something. One thing that really erks me that there are no pens if you need to fill a label out (I've started to bring my own pens). If you are trying to buy stamps and you want a decorative one good luck they place them in a display case that all the customers in line lean against while waiting in line. It'd be nice if they just had a more visible display so you can figure out what you want I try to go to the kiosk at the main entrance just to get in and out as quick as possible, but even the kiosk doesn't have everything you need. I really think this post office needs a make over and maybe some happier staff. It's just depressing. I need to find a more upbeat and organized post office. It would also be nice if the person behind the counter didn't give you an annoyed look because you aren't buying the normal forever stamp that he/she sells to everyone that comes in. Hello read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I understand that due to COVID, things aren't going as smooth, but USPS is absolutely AWFUL. Especially the Columbia branch. My wife's doctor placed a medication order - shipping from Columbia to Columbia. Not sure why, but USPS shipped it all the way to Richmond and back. So a week later and I still don't have it. Columbia branch has it and is refusing to go check and get it for me. It's there, it's been scanned there a few days ago. I told them Saturday, when I went into pick it up and they refused to get it, that I wanted to pick it up Monday. Supervisor said sure, come in at noon. Then why did I receive a notification Monday morning that says out for delivery, ETA 7:15pm? I just went in there again and they are too damn lazy to just go find it for me. I'm told to come back at 10:30 and I can assure you I still won't get the damn meds. I told them I'd even go back and get it... NEVER USING USPS AGAIN!!!! Supervisors name is Shanae. read more

Employees stay in the back and do not poke heads out regularly to check for queue. Had to tell a few times before someone shows up. Almost every pick up is a long wait. They need better organization and better system. The tall African American woman ( I think she's supervisor) is rude and loud. read more

They just replaced majority of their windows with kiosks (now they have 4 instead of 2). The lines are long, but usually for the different services, rather than at the kiosks. You have to really hit the stamp dispenser part of the kiosk to make sure the stamp is spit out though... On all of them. And if you don't have everything you possibly need... People are right. Back to the line you go. (Especially for international packages, be careful. Seemingly they don't really keep stuff behind their booth to just hand you to write.) read more

very disappointed with them. I have been sent other peoples mail, that wasn't mine. Received packages that weren't mine. I also had a package that was delivered, but never was delivered. I was told that the package had been attempted to be delivered but I was home and no one came. I came to the post office a day later and my package was already returned to sender. The post office never delivered it, just sent it back. Then I was given the managers number to call, and never talked to the manager. One lady tried to help me but it was to late. read more

This really happened: Arrived on time for a scheduled passport appt for my husband and daughter. After 10 minutes we were acknowledged with a "What are you here for?" as we were standing at the Passport window. My husband told the woman that we had a 3:00 appt. She asked if we had brought our photos to which I replied that I was told when making the appt that pictures would be taken on site. She huffed and told us to "go wait by the chair" and walked away. After about 15 minutes a different woman came out with a camera and instructed my 2 year old daughter to stand up on the chair. A few more minutes go by as I'm watching her try to take a picture. She had no idea how to work the camera and told me that it was broken when i could clearly see that she didn't know how to zoom in. She leaves to find someone that can "fix" the camera. 22 minutes later a different woman comes out, takes the pictures without a problem, and lets us know she'll be right with us. 13 minutes later I walk up to the window to over hear her telling two other employees that the pictures weren't printing out. The manager shrugged his shoulders and instructed her to tell the customers that "It ain't working so they can't get their pictures." Then he rambled on about how long it would take to order a new usb cable for the printer. The woman couldn't even look me in the face when she told me to go some where else for photos, bring them back, after making another appt, and then they could process the passports. After I said that we would just go to a different Post Office a man standing behind her raised his voice saying "Ok, then go!" Commencing Rant: Are you friggin kidding me!?! I won't get into how frustrating it is to keep a 2 year old calm and quiet for an hour of nothing to do or the smell of an old sweaty man standing so close I could see his nose hairs go in and out of his nostrils with every breath. I'm usually a very tolerant person and can navigate through unpleasant situations with no stress. But this was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had. The truth is that I totally understand equipment malfunctions... stuff happens, but I wouldn't even be writing this if someone.. anyone, would have at least been courteous enough to say something like "Sorry for your inconvenience." or "Can we reschedule your appt as we order a new cable?" Just an ounce of kindness would have made a difference. No way I'll ever step foot in that place again. When I got my passport it was less then 5 minutes at the Clarksville location which unfortunately has been closed down. Wish I could rate with negative stars. I now have a full grasp of the term "going postal." read more

They failed to deliver my urgent package as guaranteed and then they refused to honor their refund policy due to an error they made in their paperwork! I'd like to recommend that the workers behind the counter get a personality. This excludes the helpful guy that greets you when you walk in and directs you to the right place. The girl was so miserable. Make sure you have every single thing you need bc if you have to run 2 ft away to grab something, you get back in line. She should be glad she still has a job instead of taking her hourly pay misery out on customers who keep that post office in business. Don't even bother asking her a question without her rolling her eyes. Apparently we should all be experts in the highly respected industry of mail processing.
