I've been going to this park since I moved to the neighborhood in 2019. Took my pup on the big dog side to walk trails and small dog side to play fetch. Shes a medium dog about 20 lbs. We were very frequent visitors. We had a downfall in 2021 and now shes a senior, blind and a T1 diabetic and bumps into everything. but fetch is her life so we kept going to the park and I would bring her favorite scented squeak toy so she could hear when I throw it and smell it to find it. But our visits started to become complicated when dogs would just run her over or run away with her ball leaving her frantic because she couldn't see was going on. I often times had to get her ball back from the dog and walk to another empty part of the park and toss her ball to her so she could play and get her exercise. This wouldnt stop the dogs from constantly stealing her toys and running away and the owners just laughing at me. And I would explain my dog is blind and needs her ball so she can hear and smell it to play. They would say "it's just what dogs do" which irritated me. Since I kept moving to empty parts of the park and they would just follow. Theres thousands of balls there and hers is a scented squeaker made for blind dogs. So I picked her up and left. I started taking her early mornings when no one is there and that worked for a while. On may 8th we finished our walk and a lady came in with her 2 dogs, no big deal I was snapping my fingers at my pup so she could follow me back to the car. One of the lady's dogs ran over which I thought was just going to say hello, pinned my dog down and started chomping on her. I quickly reacted and grabbed the dog off my dog and picked up my dog and ran her to the fountain to check for wounds. She had a bad puncture in her back that required 3 staples. It was a horrific day. I won't be going back here anymore. I wish they had dog parks made for disabled and older dogs. Its frustrating trying to find an area that's gated where she can run and explore and not get bullied or completely run over by other dogs. We just take little walks around my complex now and play fetch inside my apartment. read more

Located right off of Pat Booker Road, right next door to the Universal City Animal Shelter. This park is split in half, one side for the big dogs and the other side for 35Lbs and under. The entrance gate is a double gate for those of you with escape artists. Park has running water available for the dogs, and picnic tables shaded by large canopies. The only thing keeping this to 4 stars is the lack of grass. Yes, there is some grass in the park, but it's mostly dirt. The city has plans to plant grass and make other improvements, but they still need donations. Check the gate coming in for info on donating. read more

People here don't pick up after their dogs. There are dog fights.... There is no ground cover. It's very dusty so when you take your dog home its paws are dusty and coated in urine and feces. And its coat is dusty. I'd stay clear of this very small dog park. Oh, very little shade too. read more

I just finally brought my dogs to a dog park. I have such OCD and anxiety about bringing my fur babies to the park to meet other dogs. I have to say I think I had more fun than they did. My dog wanted to stay next to me the whole time. I created monsters. Ahhhhh. I have taken them about 3 times already and they are starting to like it more and more each time. The rains have kept us away but we will be back for more fun times. Stars 1 star for easy access 1 star for clean facilities 1 star for overall experience. 1 star for water and doggy bags onsite. - for bathrooms did not visit. Yay! A dog park in UC!! It's pretty spiffy too, though I'm swayed by the cool wooden dog house thingy in the middle. Moose thinks he's the top banana when he climbs up in that puppy castle. Patrons of this park generally seem pretty responsible and friendly, there are less land mines to worry about than at other places. I can imagine this place gets fairly hot/boiling in the summer months though, due to the lack of shade. All in all, UC dog park gets a big ol' thumbs up from me and the pups. This park is about 15 minutes from where I live so I stopped in with my PTSD service Dog to check it out I will admit it's awesome Big Areas for both small and big(both) Dogs lots of Covered Picnic Tables several concrete Water Areas with spigots they can drink and play from.. Moving to the area a few weeks back, my pup had the pleasure of checking out a ton of new dog parks & i have to say this was my favorite thus far - stopped in for a good 2hrs today & we had a blast :D There were a ton of very active dogs (20+) of all sizes & plenty of room for them to run around, a few canopies & trees providing shade, working water stations, and down-to-earth friendly people that you could actually have great conversations with. I also did appreciate that folks at this park do seem to understand that if your dog is the size of a squirrel, it should likely really be playing on the small dog side & that if you bring your kids, it is your responsibility to watch them ;) All kids that were there were very well behaved and knew how to act around the dogs. The only reason i am not giving 5 stars is because a handful of dog owners did not seem to really care to correct their dogs, so there was a bit of bullying going on & a few bad habits picked up by the puppies that were there from adult dogs that should know better, e.g. constant jumping on & over tables that people were sitting at, jumping up on people & kids and cornering of the more timid dogs to where some got spooked, were then defensively barking just trying to get out from under the pack, with the owners of the bullies just standing by .... So, if you have a rather skittish dog this may not be the park for you, but if your baby is self-confident, well socialized & used to bigger dogs / able to tell them off, you'll have a ton of fun at this park - like we did :) read more

This is an awesome park for dogs! Love that there are two separate gated areas for big dogs and little dogs! There's also running water for a water spout for dogs and multiple picnic tables under canopies. They provide poop bags which is great, those things can be expensive!!! Almost every review complains about not being enough grass but for my pup I like it bc she's allergic to halogens and the less grass the better! But even for other dogs there's enough grass I feel especially because we're we live! It's Texas it's hot and never rains so for it being a FREE dog park it's fine. If not having enough grass is a real issue than the regulars that attend this park should raise money to plant grass and to have a better watering system. Doing so would also benefit for the dogs because for the people who don't pick up after their pups this will help wash away a lot of the bacteria. Reason for a 4 is I think it could use more agility spots. There is a little doggie house with a ramp for dogs to walk up but it would be great if there were more things for them to play on especially with all that room! read more

I was super excited to go to the dog park from the reviews. But I was disappointed when I got there. I don't know if it's because of summer that there's so little grass but the place has a huge sand area that the dogs love to get into. Great when you are already planning to give your dog a bath. Not so great if you don't. The park is also a lot smaller than I was expecting. But it does have great obstacles for your dog to run through. And a doggy water fountain straight from a hydrant. read more

Love this park for so many reasons! First of all, the park is divided into dogs 30lbs and under and dogs over 30lbs. Both areas for the small and large dogs give plenty of room for the dogs to run and play. There are usually a lot of people and dogs everyday in the evenings which makes it fun for the dogs to socialize while their owners do the same! My favorite thing about the park is the other dog owners. They are all so kind, considerate and respectful. Bring your own folding chair and be ready to join in some good conversation while your dog exercises and plays! read more

By admission, Universal City dog park is not my favorite dog park in the greater San Antonio area, but it's conveniently located by my apartment so I spend more time here than any of the other parks. Let me quickly list the drawbacks this place has over some of the other options in the city. a.) You'll never hear anyone commend the park for their ample parking... this I'm told is about to be addressed in the near future tho'. b.) There's very little tree cover within the park so the summer months suck out loud. c.) There's no night time lighting so the pleasurable fall/winter evenings outside are cut short because of the limited daylight.... This however affects almost all parks in the city of San Antonio so this is more of a ticky-tack complaint on my part and there's talk solar powered lighting to go up in 2012. d.) The park is a little sparse in terms of grass so be prepared to deal with dust/dirt and you can pretty much cross out going to the park if rain is in the forecast. That said... here are some of the great things that the park offers. 1.) the park has some of the most responsible dog owners in the city of San Antonio. Owners are very attentive of their pets and many people who visit this park are regulars who will converse with you regularly 2.) the park (and its supporters) make sure to remind visitors that it's a DOG PARK first. The place doesn't discourage children to play on the grounds, but don't be surprised if you won't find a shoulder to cry on when your child is barked at for acting like privileged brat. 3.) the park also has a very active local group that puts out monthly newsletters and they've begun to take steps to address all the issues i've listed above. If you're in the area and you haven't made your way over - be sure to do so. The park is a great place for your dog. read more

The only thing keeping this place from getting 5 stars is the lack of grass. That being said, I really like how open the areas are for my doggy to romp around in. There are quite a few regulars and the place gets crazy packed in the evenings with large and small dog owners alike. They have the park split up into 2 sections, one is for all dogs and the other is strictly for dogs 35 pounds and under which is great for people with small dogs. The fencing is only 4 feet tall or so and it's next to a semi-busy street which was a concern because I have a husky that is notorious for jumping fences but he is so preoccupied with the other dogs and the kiddie pools that my mind is put at ease. There are strict rules and guidelines for the park including no children on the playscapes and making sure to clean up after your animals which I appreciate. I will definitely take my dog back, and hopefully come spring there will be some grass so that I don't have to give my dog a bath each time we go to the park :) read more

This is our favorite dog park in SA. It's nice that it's so close to home. Previous reviews mention the lack of lighting, and that's not true any more. There is plenty of lighting after dark. Nice covered seating works well, even on hotter days, although we haven't been during summer yet. All of the regulars that we've met are friendly, easygoing and responsible. UC City employees come by regularly to keep up the park. There are instructions on the gate with contact info for donating. Things that still need addressed: Parking is really the biggest issue. The lack of grass is a bummer, but our dogs don't seem to mind. read more

I think that this is a really cute dog park and it is super clean! I live on the opposite end of town so I had not brought my pooch here until yesterday. They have it separated into two sections. One for dogs 30 pounds and under and the other side for dogs larger than 30 pounds. Small dog owners were bringing there dogs to the "Big dog" side so I don't think it is an issue if you want to take a smaller pooch around a larger however the larger dogs are obviously not allowed on the side that states for dogs 30 pounds and under. In the small dog section of the park there is a shady area with a huge rock, a ramp to walk your dog over, a canopy covered picnic table, fountains for dogs to get water from, and another huge rock not out in the open in the sun. The large dog area has pretty much the exact same things that the small dog area contains with the exception of a tree house looking building that is big enough for a big to enough but may be a little too big for a small dog. If you're on the northeast side of town I would definitely say bring your dog by this dog park and enjoy the beautiful Texas spring weather. read more

Great dog park with plenty of space to spread out. Only drawback is there's only one seating bench.

This is my new go-to spot for my two dogs. I went on a sunday morning and was greeted by friendly people, well socialized dogs, and a large area for my greyhound and lab mix to play and roam around. It is completely gated, with double entry gates, and there are nice concrete sidewalks that run all over the park. There are two covered areas with several picnic tables for people to sit, several stations for water for dogs and people, and disposal stations with trash cans. There is also an area for small dogs. This is essential for me since my greyhound has a high prey drive and the site of a teacup chihuahua is all too tempting. It had rained the day before so the mud was a problem, and yes, I stepped in poop. Ugh. I saw many pieces of dog poo all over the park, and some on the sidewalks. I wish people would pick up after their dogs. It takes a minute or less and makes a huge difference in the quality of the park. Like other reviewers, I give it 4 stars only because of the shape of the grass. It would be helpful if the city reseeded the grass. But overall, I will be back! read more

Pretty great dog park. First time there today and people were overall friendly. There is a lot of space in both the small dog park and the larger park. Bags and water are provided and you can find tennis balls throughout. There are plenty of shades spaces to sit and some rocks (even though these are clearly for the dogs). We could have spent hours there. Our toddler did fine there, as well. My only complaint is that some people don't read the rules before entering - but that's anywhere. read more

I really really like this dog park, it has an open feel and is calm...if the right dogs are playing that day. I would suggest going during the time everyone else is at school or work during the weekdays. We went when everyone got out of school (we forgot it was Tuesday) and the dogs that were there were really off or anxious. You had one dog who went nuts when a motorcycle would drive by and would redirect it's frustration onto the dog nearest to him. There were also dogs who's parents weren't the most educated on body language and breeds and would get upset at clumsy Great Danes trampling everyone or herding breeds correcting the high energy dogs who did needed to chill out. Overall, I do enjoy coming here but read the crowd and use your best judgment on your dog's temperament. read more

The entrance is a double gates style entrance to help prevent the dogs from getting out when they aren't supposed to be. It is a little thing but it really helps tremendously with entering and exiting the park. Very well sized play area for dogs in both the small dog and big dog area. Lots of regulars come each day so if your pup makes a friend it is highly likely you'll see them again for another play session. The small dog area has some agility course toys in it and grass. The large dog area has very little grass but it does have a paved walking area around and through the park so if you don't want to stand in the dirt you don't have to. The bug dog area has this clubhouse thing in the center for your dog to get a good view around. Both sides have water areas to give your dog a drink or cool off. They also have doggie pickup bags posted around the edges of the park. Their are rocks/boulders as well as metal picnic tables with shade covers over them. There are some trees as well. Still be prepared to embarrass some Texas sun and heat if your coming on the summer. Most people pickup after their dogs hear, every once in a while you get ones that aren't and you find a pile here or there but nothing like some other dog parks. There is also two lights post in the big dog area and one in the little dog area to help you not get stuck in utter darkness if you come at sunsetting time. Their are three bathrooms locates to the right of the park (Womens/men's/family) that each are well supplied and clean. All in all one of the best dog parks around. read more

Very basic good to let your dog's get some energy out. The water bowls are big. With fire hydrants to fill them. But there is hardly any grass mostly all dirt so if you have a dog who plays in water (like mine) it will get very dirty at this park. read more

This is a great place to bring your dog! My one problem is that there is not enough grass... that mixed with all the water options for the dogs = one muddy pup. It is an easy fix though... they have a hose so just hose your pup off, walk them back to the car using the sidewalk and a leash, and bring a towel to wipe them down before getting in the car... I wish I knew this place earlier. I love taking my dogs to this park to hang out. There are always many friendly dogs hanging out to welcome our dogs to play with. There are double doors making it easy entry without getting too stressed out about escaping dogs. Also I like how it is separated between big dogs and small ones so that they can play with dogs in their own size. I would avoid hot day even though there is water for dogs available all the time. Not too much shady area there. I wish I lived close by! read more

I love this dog park and so do my pugs! A good friend of mine and I enjoy getting a starbucks and then brining our babies over to play at the park. The park is always clean, has fun toys for the dogs and nice shaded sitting for the parents. Its not usually too crowded and it has a cute little sidewalk trail for you to walk around with your dog if you'd like. it also has a big and little dog area. read more

I take my dog there sometimes because it is the only dog park in Universal City. The people there are nice. If you go be ready to bathe your dog when you get home. There is no ground cover. Your dog will get very, very dirty. read more

Great dog park! Not much grass and there aren't many adult trees to provide shade but my husky doesn't seem to mind. There are a couple watering stations in the big dog area and they can splash around in the bigger bowls if their paws are hot. Large canopies with tables and benches underneath. Double gate at entrance to discourage runaway pups. My dog and I give it 2 paws up! read more
