Came here for the skate park. This is the most dynamic skate park I've seen. Lots of space. A separate area if you wanted to be off by yourself. The park itself is nice, but parents need to watch their children. Two different boys splashed my one year old daughter in the face w water. Both were way older & should know better. Parents no where to be found. Other than that I've been coming to this park for the past five years no issues. The kiddos love the splash pads & the ice cream trucks. read more

Hands down the biggest park I have ever seen or been to! Once again, It's true when they say everything is bigger in Texas. The whole park is wide open and the playground is humongous. Bathrooms are clean and there's a huge modern style gazebo. Perfect for birthday parties or events. This park pretty much have everything including wifi. They even have a walking/running trail that has zip line, pull up bars, push up bars and whatever outdoor exercise equipment people use. My favorite part about this park is the skate park. Imagine having this beautiful views while skate boarding! read more

Excellent park for kids and dogs. The dog park is a half mile up the street from the playground. I've never seen such a large and well kept dog park. (I'm a dog park connoisseur!) There is a section for small dogs and large dogs, several trash/poop bag stations, tables, obstacles, etc. only problem was no one was there! We went on a Friday late morning. Maybe it gets busy in the evening or people just don't know about it. ‍. The playground- Hidden gem for sure! Not much around there from what we could see. It literally has everything... splash pad, huge playground (3 Stories) structure, zip line, spider rope web, regular swings, saucer swings, toddler play equipment, We could easily spend a full day here. Bathrooms are very clean too. Will definitely come here again next time we are in San Antonio! read more

This is a nice family oritented park. They added a skating area near by on top of the splash pad and play ground. My kids enjoy the ice cream trucks. I highly recommend for anyone on a budget and trying to take their kids some where fun. read more

I'm going to break this review down in two parts: 1) general observations about the park & amenities & 2) the trail system for runners. 1: Location: The park is located on the SW side of town (and a welcome addition), out near the old Kelly AFB runway, or Five Palms/Indian Creek/Valley Hi area if you're familiar with the city. It's easy to get to if you plug it into google. It's family & pet friendly. It has a large splash pad/mini-water park area for the kids. There are slides galore and all sorts of swings and jungle Jim type things for them to put their little germy hands...err...I mean for them to play on. For the older children, there is a skate park. It's small and has some trick areas--stairs, small ramps, lots of areas to grind on. Although it's small, it awesome that the city included it. There's also a full-court basketball court nearby. For adults, there are plenty of benches & chairs around the splash pad area to sit, talk, & watch the kids play. There is small covered pavillion with benches/tables for birthday parties. I don't think this would be a good place for a BBQ because I didn't see any pits and there is a lack of shade, unless you bring your own tent. A little ways down the street (but connected to this massive park) is a dedicated dog park, although I think you can just take your dogs anywhere because there's a lot of open area for them to run around and be crazy (think this is frowned upon). There's a big bathroom & free public WiFi that crawls along but it's free. It's March & an ice cream truck is parked out front. I suspect he'll be present in the summer months as well. The one big negative is the that this park--like nearby Tom Slick--doesn't have much shade. It's like the parks department/councilmen were like, folks on the southwest side are mostly brown, so they don't need shade or trees. Seriously. Compare this one or Tom Slick to Hardberger, McAllister, or Walker Ranch--night & day difference. We know why. Rey Saldaña's (current district 4 councilman as of March 2018) district office is *INSIDE* this park. Hey, Councilman take a walk around your offices--especially up the hills on a July afternoon--I bet you'd like some shade. Allocate some funds for trees. They are desperately needed for this park. (He's actually a good representative; he's mine). 2) For the runners: This would be an excellent place to do hill repeats. There are several largish hills that crisscross the park along with unimproved trails to follow suit. They are haphazard & seemingly random, so you can just pick one & do repeats all day. The grades are relatively steep, so it'll be a good work out. In terms of the trail system: again, I didn't see any navigation maps at the trail head, so you're just sort of left on your own to make sense of everything. It's not really that complicated but it'd be nice to have a map detailing the total length of each segment. There is a separate parking lot (away from the main one near the kids area) that dead ends into the trail head. If you start there and stay on the main greenway, point to point is about 1.5 miles (it has 1/4 mile markers) of concrete trail. You can go past the 1.5 mile mark onto a dirt trail that leads you to Quintana road. This appears to be an unused/sparsely used road that roughly follows the train tracks. I took a right at random and followed it for another mile and a half then turned around and went back. Had I gone left, the road seems to go on much further. You can check out my six-mile route from the screen cap I posted. In any event, while on my way back I noticed a side (concrete) trail that went off into the bushes. I'll report back later to see where that goes. Also, there are *many* unimproved dirt trails that connect to the main concrete greenway from the hill section. I supposed one could run along the main greenway & crisscross the hills to get more mileage. Since I'm coming back from a calf injury, I didn't want to add too much stress by doing hill work. This is a big park--some 500 acres--that any runner could use to do a midweek medium-long run (under 6-8 miles) by sticking to the haphazard in-park trail system and doing a few loops. You can also easily do a long run (10+ miles) using the park as a starting point to explore the southwest side of town. It's fairly "rural"--meaning not too many heavily trafficked urban streets--so running on the roads wouldn't likely be too much of a problem if you're cognizant of your surroundings and map out your route ahead of time to circumvent the largest thoroughfares if you wish. TL;DR: Pearsall park is great, and badly needed, multi-use park on the southwest side. It's good for everyone, from: small kids to bigger ones, dog parents that want to socialize to runners looking for a challenging workout or run. This used to be a landfill back in the day which may explain why there are no trees planted on the hills (lots of cities have repurposed space like this). read more

Bring chairs cause if the picnic area is taken not much seating. But my kids love the splash park. It's nice and bathrooms are right next to the splash park. You can bring your own snacks and food. Just have to sit in the picnic area. There is an ice cream guy that comes around too. I don't usually buy from him cause I think it's high. read more

WOW! At 505 acres, it is one of the largest AND the newest parks in the city of San Antonio. I think it is only about two years old and is in GREAT shape. There are two full court basketball courts with a nice surface, a large splash pad, a very nice skateboard/inline roller skating court, bathrooms with running water (also a couple of port-a-potties), a large pavilion available, plenty of walking trails (some paved some gravel) a couple of playgrounds, some stationary workout stations along the trail and so much more to do (including a zip line!) The walking/biking trails are about 5k and take you up to two hills with GORGEOUS views of the Alamo City. You can even see the downtown SA skyline from one of the hills. One of the hills has a couple of picnic tables and an art sculpture that is partially shaded (see photos). The trails to get to the top are steep but smooth, easy walking. I saw many bikers walking their bikes up the hills because of the steepness. Might be a good workout for the runners and bikers out there. Dog park right next door but not sure if it you can get to it from within this park. You might be able to but not sure. Also, a frisbee/disc golf course and a connection to the Leon Creek Greenway trail - although it is a short trail. Free city provided Wi-Fi in the main areas of the park. read more

Took my kindergartener to the playground and splash pad and was very impressed. I am super jealous we don't have one of these closer to my house. The splash pad was very neat - it has several water sprayers for kids to run through. Similar to if there were a ton of huge sprinklers. It was great for my kids 6 and under but I think kids would age out about the time they would no longer have fun running through huge sprinklers at home. Some kids were there in bathing suits and some in wet clothes. They will get very wet. The playground was huge - solid 3 stories with several slides. There are also lots of other things to climb on nearby and a second playground nearby too. Only gripe was there are only 4 swings 2 regular and two kids - this is not counting other stuff that swings but isn't a per se swing. read more

I used to take our two Pitbulls here to play inside the fence but not anymore. Some owners don't monitor their dogs and mine got into a fight twice. Ours are rescue dogs so they're not intimidated easily but some people aren't watching theirs for aggression. If I return, it'll be to walk them on leash around the stadium and up and down the hills, which is a great workout. read more

My family spent 6 hours here today! It was our first time and we will definitely be back. It was hot and the kids enjoyed the water. Beautiful views if you walk up the hills. There are some very unique things on the playground, my kids had a blast on! There are also food trucks and ice cream trucks there. Seem like a good place to have a birthday party. Only thing I'd have bad to say is, when it's dark there's no lighting on the other side of the park where the zip line and small play area are at. I would definitely recommend this place for sure! read more

Decent park, clean, family friendly, good hiking. Restrooms are well maintained but the port-o-potty's need to be cleaned more often.

This park has great facilities and walking paths. There is a lot to do . There's basketball courts, a dog park , disk hockey, soccer ( if you join a team or rent the soccer field) , walking trails, a water park area, area to skate , area to bike, kids play area and other activities. I wish there was more trees in some areas and more trash cans. Another downside is that there has been various break ins into cars. Honestly, it happens often even during the day. So don't leave any valuables in you vehicle. There are many animals around. I've seen deer , fox, cows, cayote, different big birds, snakes , horses , armadillos and various insects. If you like to hike off trail , it's not that great due to limited views , lots of thorny plants and private properties. Remember you're in Texas , trespassing is illegal and many people exercise the 2nd amendment. Overall it's one of the better parks in San Antonio. read more

It's a beautiful park that we've needed for a long time here in the area, it's got a play scape for the kids, a large pavilion, hiking trails, a skate park, basketball court, and body weight work out stations, it's right next to one of the city walking/biking trails it has nice restrooms and a water place scape for the kids. The only issue I see with it is there are many trees to sit under and just relax. You do have a great view of the flight line at Kelly AFB(Joint Base San Antonio), which would make it a great place to watch the air show from. A great place to spend an afternoon in during spring and fall here in Texas or an late afternoon/early evening during the summer. read more

A dog park... Disc golf course... And now, Splash Park extraordinaire! This place totally makes me wish I was a kid again! There are TWO entrances to "Pearsall Park" but if you want to get to the new splash area (where there are also at least 4 stationary food/ snack trucks) then you will need to proceed to the 2nd entrance if coming from 410. The restrooms double as changing rooms and there's cool water in the water fountains. It's kind of a free-for-all and there are no fences so be sure to keep a close eye on your kiddos. I cringe at the thought of children climbing a 3-story playscape with wet hands but they seem to manage well. Get there early if you plan on "posting up" or BBQ-ing or picnicking in the (limited) picnic areas adjacent to the splash park, but there are plenty more tables under the covered pavilion area. Everyone from children to adults genuinely looked like they were having a blast! So why not 5 stars? No pets allowed and there could definitely be a lot more trees to provide shade. Aside from those small details, this park is definitely a solid 4.5 stars, and an amazing addition to the southwest side of SA!!! read more

My son had the time of his life here today! This place is HUGE and close to Lackland AFB. Kids from all ages playing so nicely with each other. The water was on and all the kids played so nicely together! It's awesome to see so many people come together and enjoy a day out! The main playground is HUGE with three different water areas. Many places and different things to play and swing on. There is a smaller park right by the entrance for smaller children I assume. There is also a zip line In the front by the road. Many pavilions available for sitting and I assume renting as well. Down the road at the second park they have the small and large dog areas, plus all of the fields for soccer and what not. This was awesome! I have nothing but admiration for this center and those who maintain it! Way to go San Antonio, I'm going to miss this when we head back home! read more

We recently adopted a new addition to our family and wanted to find some place close to allow Sadie to run freely and burn energy without her leash. We went on a Tuesday about 530-6pm. At this time it was very quiet, maybe 2 or 3 ppl with their pets. So we had more than ample room. Very spacious place, clean and secluded. The folks that were there kept to themselves and were very polite, very mindful of their dogs too. Maybe about 2 picnic tables and seating along path (so i imagine that when it gets pretty packed seating will be limited). Some shaded areas. Pearsall does not have a big dog/little dog area its all one big ole park so unfortunately for Sadie (who seems to suffer from small dog syndrome) we had to keep her away from the bigger dogs just to keep peace and not to stir a ruckus. Again, its a pretty big area so we had most of the back end to ourselves. There must be a church nearby cuz at 6p we enjoyed a couple minutes of church bells almost as if tranced. My next "to do" is to try the path that is near the park. I went to the right first and stopped when i got to the giant soccer ball embedded in the ground. thats where the path seemed to stop. It was getting pretty dark so I didnt dare go farther. From what others said it does come round full circle. Again, thats next to come when I have more light out. And just FYI, we left after 6pm and noticed that the dog park was dark. Not sure if I didnt stay long enough for park lights to come on (if any) just be cautious as always. Its easy to pass up Pearsall Park. If your coming from Military to Old Pearsall it'll be on your left if you pass Ray Ellison light you've gone too far. From 410 after Ray Ellison to your right. I would definitely go back again. Just gotta find the right time of day to go when the big dogs are at home but if we are there please know that just cuz we are off in our own little world doesnt mean we're antisocial.. just our dog!
