Beware of Deep Cleaning Scams: Dr. MO Multiple emails to clinic ahead of time just to schedule a routine cleaning, since my prior dentist retired. Never had a cavity in my life and have been getting 2 cleaning and regular x-ray on routine basis for health maintenance. Checked in ok, and was proceeded to the back by hygienist. Just about to clean, Dr. Mo (Mohammed Alyagoob: NPI: 1952979189) walked in, took one look at my x-ray (5 months ago), and said that I needed "Deep Cleaning". When inquired as to why, especially given my history, he was extremely dismissive and said "Do you want your teeth to fall off?". He then proceeded to tell me that I have an infected tooth and puss is coming out, despite that I have no pain, fever, systemic symptoms of whatsoever. Dr. Mo then stated that : "You can go somewhere if you like" repeatedly, when I asked more questions. I told him that doing deep cleaning cost thousands of $ and often requires prior approval, and that I am requesting him to just do regular cleaning and reassess in 6 months and if necessary, we can see if deep cleaning receives prior authorization. He refused to do regular cleaning and told me to leave. SCAM PART: It is often done by shoddy dental practices, NOT to do regular cleaning and push people to do "Deep cleaning". It cost $$$$ in thousands, instead of $100 or so. It also requires strong anesthesia, often extreme pain and requires very strong pain medication to control symptoms, not to mention multiple visit and chances to bill your insurance on multiple occasions. Often they justify the necessity as any bone loss. However, please note that anyone over the age of 50 will have some bone loss, no different in your teeth than rest of your body. They may scam you to think that bone loss is only related to deep infection and inflammations that requires deep cleaning. WHAT CAN YOU DO: Call their clinic managers and report. Call your insurance company to report to Ethicspoint or similar line. Examine your provider from IL Department of Professional Regulation to see if they have been disciplined previously. If you encounter potential scams, report to IL Dept of Professional Regulations. Get another opinion. Trust your body sense of what it is telling you. read more

I came here for an urgent appointment as a first-time patient since I could not get in anywhere else throughout Chicago that day. The staff were all kind, but this place is not a professional environment that I'd trust for healthcare. I went in for a chipped front tooth and extreme wisdom teeth pain (infected). My appointment lasted all of 15 minutes after really fast/poor quality X-Rays. I never even saw a doctor- just 2 hygienists. One hygienist said there was nothing wrong with my chipped tooth and the pain was probably radiating from my wisdom teeth. I said it was distinctly different and asked him to please recheck the X-Ray. He looked at the X-Ray again then said, "oh, you're right. There is something irregular here. You need either a filling or a root canal- I'm not sure which one. Come back next month and we will decide which one at that time. As for your wisdom teeth, God or your body- whichever you want to say- gives you those teeth for a reason. Dentistry is about saving teeth, not removing them. You will just need to get through it. It's like when babies cry as they teethe, but for adults." Then he left the room and the other hygienist said, "you definitely need to get your wisdom teeth removed. Schedule your follow-up with someone different so you can get it done." Even the receptionist was confused that I didn't know what kind of follow-up appointment I was needing to schedule, since fillings and root canals are VERY different. I was new to Medicaid and a first-time patient at this provider, and I can confidently say I will NEVER return. While the staff was pleasant, the service I received was disappointing at best. I went in for a routine exam and cleaning, but the entire appointment lasted only 25-30 minutes. It's not the length of time that concerns me, but the lack of thoroughness and quality. I arrived for my 10 a.m. appointment around 10:05, completed the necessary paperwork, and waited about 10-15 minutes before being called in. The hygienist led me to the back, where they took 3 or 4 x-rays focused only on my front teeth. After the x-rays, what I assume was the dentist entered the room. However, there was no introduction, and I never saw his face. He briefly said my teeth looked great, tapped a few teeth with an instrument, and left. 5 minutes at best! The hygienist returned, scraped & cleaned the front of my teeth, and said he was done. I asked several times about my back teeth, but he insisted they "looked good" and didn't need scraping cleaning. I explained that I've been with the same dentist and hygienist for 30 years, and in all that time, I've never had an appointment--for x-rays, an exam, or a cleaning--that lasted less than an hour. I also emphasized that every tooth is always thoroughly cleaned. He said I did not need it and walked me to the front desk to schedule my next appointment. Of course, I declined another appointment and told the receptionist I would never be back. For context, I typically get my teeth cleaned every six months and have an exam once a year. However, it had been a year since my last dental visit, and I only get coverage for these services once a year through Medicaid. Now, I'll have to wait another year to get the proper care I was hoping for. I'm not someone who usually writes reviews or complaints, but this experience was unacceptable. I was hurt by Dr Muhammad during a root canal, he broke my tooth and was forced to extract that very tooth. He sent me home without medication. The doctor also uses non medical grade thread in my stitches, which was never removed. I nearly chocked affer the thread went down my throat. My neck was swollen for weeks. I had to call the office for 3 days before receiving medication. I suffered nerve damage, and was lied to by owners that they would compensate me for a implant which never occurred. I reported them to the state of Illinois. The owner told me I shouldn't have reported him and he refused to pay out the funds in which he agreed to disburse. I will eventually get my money one way or another. They will never hurt me and think it's ok. Please be advised that these people don't care about patients in the community. Don't walk, RUN Before I even got into the clinic, one of the staff that is a hygienist was outside smoking cigarettes, and yelling in profanity on the phone with whoever. After I just witnessed somebody yelling and acting erratically I really don't want them working on my teeth!! This was a huge red flag, but instead, I continue to still stay because I needed my teeth checked out. I asked him if he was okay to begin because I just saw him outside acting erratic on the phone, and he instantly tried to switch the situation like that never happened. LETS TALK ABOUT HOW HE WAS HURTING ME AND Causing me pain!! I told him multiple times to stop and raise my hand as signal, and he still continued to digging in my teeth'. When I first got there did x-rays, and it was clearly visible that I had a broken cavity he never mentioned this. He just tried to do the cleaning and bypass me, and still tried digging in the tooth that had the cavity which was crazy because it feels like this man had no dental practice prior to this. I called NEXT DAY AND LEFT AN EMERGENCY VOICEMAIL, TELLING THEM I WAS AN EXCRUCIATING PAIN AND THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME AT THAT POINT. IT WAS THE WEEKEND MONDAY CAME AND THEY STILL HAD NOT ANSWERED. THE PROFESSIONAL LINE HAD TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WHEN I CAME IN TO ADDRESS AND GET MY TOOTH FIXED HE STARTED GASLIGHTING ME. and telling me I'm over exaggerating... This is my teeth & my health and when I reported the unprofessional to the "Doctor" he was chuckiling like it was a joke. he just said well do you want me to fix it, I can't control and micro manage all my staff.... Terrible place. Confirmed an appointment for 12 noon. Leave work head over. Arrive at 11:45. Checked in. The place looks like the waiting room in the county hospital (stacked with people) the door is busted and has a whole in the frame. The inside of office was dirty. The young lady checking me in looked as if she has been up all night. She was not rude but was very curt and matter of fact. 45 minutes pass - I go to desk Ask how much longer to be seen. I was told my appointment was at 12:30 so they are taking people that have noon appointments- mind you it's 12:50 lol. I inform her that my appointment was for noon. She says I don't work at this office and I am only filling in and the computer says you are here for 12:30 appointment. I pull my phone out to show her the text from them to confirm the 12 noon appointment. She says well I just go with what the computer says. I was like what's the adjusted time. She says she will check - by this time it's 1:20 which is an hour and 20 minutes after my appointment. I sit and they call me in. I go in that back and it's all these open bays. That are everywhere with patients being serviced while you walk past. There's no privacy. The stations did not look particularly well organized the places were a bit of a mess. The hygienist uniform was dirty. I asked her if that's how they normally do things when it came to scheduling and service. She told me that it's normally not that way I said I just want to make sure because if it was as a new patient, there will be no need for me to even continue with the service. If this is how things are going to go she assure me that they weren't but she went and got the doctor I talked to the doctor. The doctor came in. He didn't look particularly well prepared or equipped or very professional. He told me that this is not normally how things go, but it was he would offer me a free fluoride treatment, but that's all we can do and if I was still uncomfortable then it was up to me to decide if I was going to stay of course I said no thank you and I left and I went and found a new dentist. I'll start with what's good about this place - the staff is friendly and good at the work they do. They made getting my wisdom teeth removed an okay experience. HOWEVER, the things they've done wrong heavily outweigh that. I've been thinking a lot about my experiences here, and what stands out the most to me is the way they've repeatedly disregarded my concerns about my bruxism. The first time I came in to talk about it, they only told me to get a mouth guard and that the only way to fix my front chipped tooth would be with a procedure that make me unable to bite down on food with my front teeth ever again??? So I never followed through with any treatments regarding my bruxism since I was hardly given options. And when I went back for routine teeth cleaning about a year later, the doctor checked my mouth and within 30 seconds said everything was fine. Meanwhile, I know I have a cavities and more chipped teeth that need to be tended to. When I brought this up to the dental hygienist after the doctor quickly left, he once again lectured me about mouth guards instead of taking a closer look at my teeth. I have no idea why, but these people refuse to help me beyond what they're required to do in a routine check up. I experience tooth pain daily, but apparently there is nothing wrong with my teeth. And apparently the cavities I see in my mouth are no longer visible in the dentist's office. No matter how hard I advocate for myself here, nothing real gets done. I hope I can find another dentist that accepts medicaid, because I am desperately in need of a second opinion and real help. Honestly, this team should be ashamed of themselves and the lack of help they are willing to offer to their young patients who are trying their best to take of their health. It did not begin (or end) well. From Josh, the scheduler, informing me that because of the dental office policy, he could not give me the name of the dentist that he scheduled my appointment with (what a joke), to him rudely questioning my request to speak to a manager for confirmation. Shortly after arrival for my 08-13-2020 appointment, Vieth (sp ?), the assistant (the title that he gave himself upon introduction), escorted me to an examining room. Vieth took x-rays and informed me that Dr. Brar would be in for a consultation and to discuss my x-rays. While waiting for Dr. Brar, as I looked around the examining room of my new dental office, I could not help but notice black marks on the wall near a television that is mounted high on the wall. I wondered how the marks were made on the wall since the television is mounted high up, and why the marks had not been removed. I cannot possibly be the only one who sees the marks on the wall. At any rate, Dr. Brar is great! She has a wonderful bed-side manner and is thorough. While I like Dr. Brar, I question her informing me that I need a "deep cleaning." I take very good care of my teeth, as Dr. Brar and Vieth confirmed, and have never been told that I need a deep cleaning - even at my last dental appointment early 2019. After the consultation, Vieth returned to clean my teeth. I was ok with the info/suggestions that Vieth provided regarding my teeth. However, I had to ask Vieth to clean my teeth a second time because after the cleaning, I could still feel the residue on my teeth that I arrived with, that I could not remove during brushings. After the cleaning, when I asked Vieth if he is a hygienist (whom I am accustomed to have clean my teeth at other dental offices), Vieth frowned and said no - not really - and finally said, no, again. It is a problem for me if a licensed hygienist (or dentist) does not clean my teeth - and to be honest, I do not know if unlicensed dental assistants should be cleaning teeth. Also, while Vieth cleaned my teeth, the guest of a patient who was in another examining room, stood outside my examining room and was quite visible. Not cool, as there was no privacy. As I checked out, I backtracked and asked for a new toothbrush, since I was not offered one. At other dental offices, I am always given a goody bag (the best part of the visit) after cleanings - which Dr. Brar told me I would receive. I was shocked when I was informed that they "just" ran out of toothbrushes, and would call me to pick-up a toothbrush when they had more. No thanks - I live too far to come back and pick-up a toothbrush! How does a dental office run out of toothbrushes? :((((( Despite all, I rated Universal Dental two stars instead of one because the wait time was minimal. My quest continues to find a Hyde Park dental office that comes close to providing the overall quality service that I am accustomed to, at downtown Chicago dental offices. read more

I took my daughter there they washed her teeth and then took couple x-rays told her she needed filling we waited for about 3 months and when we went there for the filling they told her she needs root canal. Since you are here, it is safe to say that you're doing research that I WISH I'd done. Last year, I had such a terrible dental experience that I no longer see that dentist or the orthodontist that I've seen for years. However, today was my worst experience ever! Dr. Brar at the Hyde Park location CUT ME under my tongue while prepping me for a crown. Yes, UNDER my tongue. That shows that it was not in her way. She was moving too fast and the electric instrument SLIPPED and cut me. Accidents do happen. Nothing remotely like this has happened to me in that office before. (I did complain about the hygenist- his odd manner and his way of not really listening to me as a patient. I'm sure he went unchecked.) However, today, as soon as I felt the cut, I yelped (no pun intended), cursed and held both hands to my face. You'd think the first words out of her mouth would have been an apology for my pain and now BLEEDING tongue. No. She started to explain to me "THAT'S why we have to make sure the tongue is out of the way. I could numb you but I didn't want to numb the entire bottom of your mouth." What does numbing me have to do with her technique or lack thereof. (I must have made the Assistant nervous because she could barely hold the suction instrument steady for the rest of the time.) Yes, the blast of cold air at the start was uncomfortable but at the moment of injury, I was fine. Calm, actually. Then... BAM! The underside of my tongue was sliced and I was bleeding. After gauze was applied and minutes later into the service, my mouth was on fire. To check the gauze, she kept roughly pushing it into the gash. She seemed annoyed at my discomfort while offering me a few minutes to rest. I told her quite frankly how much pain I was in and how pissed I was and just needed a moment. (Pain trumps decorum.) She finally offered to apply a topical numbing gel and fresh gauze. That helped me get through the session. I will spare you more details and pictures of all the bloody gauze and my disappointment after a TWO-hour visit. If it wasn't for one more appointment to apply the permanent crown, she would never see me again. Beware and aware. Don't be like me and let your fears of terrible treatment come upon you. Prior to traveling overseas for an extensive period, I needed my regular teeth cleaning and wanted to get a tooth checked out as the idea of visiting a dentist abroad doesn't appeal to me anymore after a not very pleasant experience. I was in Chicago visiting a friend in Hyde Park who was also leaving the country and she recommended Dr. Nader at Universal Dental. I called the clinic, scheduled an appointment and had a great and personable experience that I would sum up as: 1. Easy Parking: The clinic has free parking and the staff pointed that out to me when I called in. 2. Polite and honest Dentist: Dr. Nader explained to me in detail my x-ray and pointed that I needed to get one tooth filled but if I didn't want to spend the money on it, then the tooth can easily wait for 6 months. I went ahead and got the filling done anyways as I appreciated his honesty and didn't want to do it abroad. 3. Flexibility: In spite of booking last minute, Dr. Nader and his staff didn't make me feel rushed at all in spite of me being the last patient for the day. 4. Quality work: The filling I got complemented the rest of my teeth and my bite was symmetric. 5. After-care: The next day, I received a phone call from the clinic checking on me. Overall experience: Having had more than my fair share of dental care, I would highly recommend Dr. Nader for the professionalism and personable service. I would not recommend this dentist office. The visit overall went poorly. The dentist I saw was discourteous and seemed to be fumbling with his recommendations. Most of his suggestions were in direct conflict with prior dentists' recommendations. On my initial visit, before seeing a single clinician, and despite my suggestion that they obtain my former X-rays before repeating them, they went straight to X-ray. I've visited the Hyde Park location four times. It was the most horrible four experiences with any dentist I have ever had. I actually love the dentist, so my opinions are totally based off of their horrible services and not a dislike for the dentist. The Hyde Park office is not clean. There is always a long wait even if you are on time for your appointment. The people cleaning my teeth were very unprofessional. They switched me to three dirty rooms before they even started cleaning my teeth. She asked, "Who are you?" as if I wasn't supposed to be there. She dug tools into my gums and did not thoroughly polish my teeth. The dentist I saw was different than who I had seen there previously. He didn't introduce himself or tell me anything about my teeth. He simply said, "No cavities. You're done." At the reception I had to ask for a little bag with a toothbrush. She stared at her computer and told me they had run out of them. She didn't even ask me to schedule my next appointment. I asked for my medical records because I will be searching elsewhere. Dr. Nader is AWESOME! He was incredibly helpful, thorough, and informative. It's obvious Dr. Nader's main priority is making sure his patients are comfortable and get the best dental care possible. He took all the time needed to ensure I was comfortable and that I understood the status of my teeth. The worst, most underqualified dentists you will ever meet. I'm surprised the technicians and so called "dentists" have DDS's at all. The lady who worked on my teeth was the most negligent and sloppy practitioner I've ever met. She was continuously glancing at the TV show as she was drilling a cavity. I experienced a lot of pain as she was drilling, because she drilled too close to the pulp. This was the most traumatizing experience I've ever had at the hands of a so-called medical professional. 4-5 weeks later my tooth started experiencing pain and I went back, and she told me it was just "sensitivity from a new filling" and sent me home. I went to another, much more professional dentist who gave me X-rays and apparently the lady left a filling overhang (aka the work was sloppily done), did not remove all traces of cavity decay, and did not fill the tooth properly so there is a gap between my pulp and the filling, causing me pangs of pain. I will need a root canal and a crown on this tooth. Please, if you value your health and your money, do not ever ever step foot inside this terrible place with insufficiently trained dentists and technicians and a cold-hearted front desk lady. read more

How can I give this office a negative star? My appointment was at 1, I was there at 12:45, and wasn't seen until 2. People were out so they were behind. No apologies. I was seen by a hygienist then the male dentist. Like others who've mentioned, I didn't get his name either. He looked at my teeth and gums, any issues he asked? No, all good on my end. Instead of getting a regular cleaning I was told he'd recommend I get a deep cleaning. I asked questions about the procedure, he answered. I asked for a breakdown of the cost and he said he's get it for me. What happens next? The hygienist returns and starts to take off the bib. I asked her what's going on I want my cleaning and she said "the doctor said you need a deep cleaning. A regular cleaning would be like brushing your teeth." Hands me a sheet with the breakdown of costs and says "your insurance will cover it." She starts to clean up the area and doesn't even show me the way out. I have to ask her and she points. My teeth and gums aren't in bad shape after all and I will never go back to this store again. Because that's really how it felt; like I was being up-sold by a cell phone dealer. GOH. read more

I went in the other week for a cleaning as a new patient. I decided to give these folks a try and was surprised to read the old review afterwards. First of all, the staff is EXTREMELY nice and pleasant. Sometimes you have people that obviously hate their job and make you feel awkward for stepping in and making them do a little work. The staff was super friendly and genuinely seemed happy to be there. It was an easy process and the clinic seems a bit updated in terms of tech. My dentist, Dr. Nader was a very Knowledgeable and friendly. It had been a while since my last cleaning and he was very thorough and took extra time to do scaling etc. He has a great chair side manor.He makes you feel very comfortable and safe. Unprofessional people at the front desk. The lady dentist is very unprofessional as well. It took about 3 months for her to get me my tooth from the lab for a crown. Dr. Carolyn Belke and when it finally came back it didn't even look right but still did the procedure and then asked me if I didn't like it I would have to pay again for another tooth. Very unprofessional. After that the assistant finished treating me and I was ready to go home never did the Doctor come and say how does it feel? Do you like it? That shows how much she cares about her patience. At this point still very un happy with how my smile came out to be so looking for other options and perhaps getting a lawyer to get my full refund. The ladies at the front desk always give you wrong information and loose your documents. Even when I got my cleaning done there the assistant leaped poking me with a sharp object that made me have pain for 2 days. I don't know how this facility is still running. If you care about your teeth don't go there! Plus they work with like 4 different offices and your personal information just floats around that they have to be calling to get it. I came here last week for a regular cleaning. The dentist doesn't use the typical dental pick to scrape the teeth. She uses some sort of ultrasonic pick that left my gums bleeding and throbbing for hours after my appointment. I was told that I had a small cavity while I was there, and while I was apprehensive about returning to have it filled I came back a week later anyways. I wish I would have listened to my gut because as I settled into the dental chair, the dentist said, "raise your hand if it starts to hurt. I won't be using anesthesia." Pump the brakes lady. First of all, ask me if I want to be numbed. Sure, the cavity was very small, but you don't know my pain tolerance. And after what I want through last week I highly doubt she cares much about the level of pain I am in. Now that the filling is in, I can feel my bite being very uneven now and am scheduling an appointment elsewhere to make sure everything is okay. I have no faith in this dentist, or her abilities. I wish I could tell you the dentist's name, but she never introduced herself...so there is also that. read more
