As someone whose soul leaves their body at the sight of any needle, I was fully prepared for this filling to become my villain origin story. The numbing shot was definitely the hardest part for me, but Dr. Andrew Jursik was incredibly patient and worked with me every step of the way to make it as easy as possible. He never rushed me, explained everything, and made me feel comfortable. Once I was numb, the filling and drilling were quick, smooth, and completely painless. The next day no pain or even soreness! He nailed this entire process. My only complaint has nothing to do with the doctor. When I scheduled my appointment after my cleaning, I specifically asked to have my X-rays done before my filling because they weren't taken that day (per my request). I even called before my appointment to remind the office, and I was told they would make a note and let the doctor know. Unfortunately, when I arrived, no one seemed aware of that request. That said, the team immediately accommodated me without any hesitation. Everyone was kind, understanding, and made sure I got my X-rays before starting the procedure. Mistakes happen, and I really appreciated how quickly they made it right. I needed an emergency appointment as a first time patient and they were able to fit me in even though Dr. Koslow was booked that day. Everyone was very supportive and helpful. I've been going to 25 East Dental for many, many, many years and it keeps getting better and better. Everyone that works there seems to really love what they do. Those at the front desk are always helpful and very knowledgeable in all things billing, insurance, and appointment reminders. The hygienists are thorough. And Dr. Koslow is simply amazing. My crown/veneer work was completed by at least two different dentists, and while they looked ok, they were not perfect. Cosmetic dentistry is her jam! Her extreme attention to detail and dedication to making sure you are 110% satisfied cannot be rivaled. She is simply the best at what she does. This once-great dental practice is a shadow of its former self since Dr. Deaver was pushed out. I went there for a check up and wasn't even told he had left, the dentist who saw me barely spoke to me (and didn't even introduce themself!), and didn't tell me I had a cavity that needed to be filled until I was checking out and they wanted to know when i would be coming back in for that. I should have known something was wrong at the very start when the tech asked me if I knew I ground my teeth, clearly never looking at my history to see I have a mouthguard that was created by 25 East Dental! I will never be back, but I am still inundated with calls and emails from them to set up another appointment despite telling them I had taken my business elsewhere. And I'm still trying to get all my records transferred to my current dentist, with no luck so far. Stay far, far away. read more

I really appreciate 25 East Dental! We had recently moved to Chicago and we were looking for a dental practice. Many people in our building recommended 25 East Dental. Their complements were well- founded. Everyone in the office is friendly and makes every effort meet your needs. Dr. Kozlov is fantastic. She has had to do quite a bit of work on my teeth and it has been as comfortable as possible. One thing she does, is numb one side of the mouth at a time. Therefore you do not have unnecessary numbness. The numbness in the first side is wearing off as she is working on the opposite side. She is diligent in making sure everything is done correctly! My dentist Dr. Deaver used to practice here up until suddenly last year. The office provided a myriad of excuses from him leaving to teach full-time, that he was dead, that he left to care for his ailing wife, or that he relocated which is all false. I found my dentist who is very much alive and still practicing in the South Loop by searching for him on google. They didn't have to lie to me about a dentist I had been seeing for over a decade. My first visit to Dr. Jursik's dental office was due to the lack of Covid protection and guidelines usually associated with a sterile environment for a dentist's office that were missing at my previous dentist office. Everyone was wearing scrubs, face-masks, and gloves...felt so clean and safe and secure!! What a difference! If your present dentist's office doesn't care about you, visit this office. I have been to Dr. Deaver's practice for 13 years. He is a top notch dentist and the reason I stuck with this practice after I moved to the suburbs. Lately, their scheduling has been dreadful though. In July 2017, I had an appointment for a filling replacement for July 5. On July 4, I get an email and text message asking me to come early the next day. I respond ok, I will come early. The next day, I come early as requested and after waiting for 30 minutes, I ask the staff what's going on with my early appointment, and they have no idea! In December 2017, I scheduled my 6-month checkup/cleaning for June 2018. I got reminders as the appointment drew close about a 10 am appointment, and then 2 days prior, the appointment is moved to 2 pm. When I call to inquire about the change, they tell me they can't do anything about it, a third party handles scheduling, and there is no appointment until the end of August (2 months later). August rolls around, and the same thing happens: a 10 am appointment suddenly turns into 8 am (I am still in the suburbs at 8 am, so would never make an appointment for that time). When I call to inquire, they tell me they can't accommodate me at the original time. That was the last straw for me. Great dentist, but scheduling is unfortunately not working for me. read more

For all of my adult life, I was cursed with having the teeth of a nine year old boy. My teeth were tiny and I had a very gummy smile, which made me extremely self conscious. I have been going to Dr. Deaver for about 4 years now. He is a very friendly guy and puts you right at ease. His staff has done numerous cleanings for me, and he has done several fillings and put on a crown for me. I question this office's billing. I have dental insurance through my employer. My insurance and Dr. Deaver's office have a negotiated price for each procedure. This negotiated price is then the price I/my insurance should pay (some of it I pay as copay, coinsurance and deductible, the rest the insurance covers). Now, with two different procedures, Dr. Deaver's office sent me a bill trying to recover the difference between the non-insurance price and the negotiated price. This is not correct. Both times I called Dr. Deaver's office, and eventually they said they had made a mistake and zeroed out my account. Once is a mistake, twice...well, that's enough for me to call it off. Also, a filling done by Dr. Deaver broke 3 months after he put it in. My insurance would not cover the cost of the repair due to the fact that they do not cover work on the same tooth within a 6 month period. I guess they think a dentist's work should last at least 6 months. I think it is unfair that Dr. Deaver's office charged me to correct their work. I called to discuss, but Erica very condescendingly explained that I did not understand my insurance policy. I'm disappointed with how communication was handled regarding my long-time dentist relationship with Dr. Deaver. When I was due for my next cleaning, I called to shift my appointment due to work travel and when I spoke with the front desk I was told that Dr. Deaver was no longer practicing and had retired. I was told he was only teaching part-time and that I would see the other dentist in the office moving forward. Upon hearing this news, I cancelled my appointment and told them I would be in touch about where to send my dental records. I was caught off guard with the news and disappointed with the lack of communication. The office has ALWAYS been known for strong communication - and in particular - Dr. Deaver. So, I found it concerning that there was no notification of his retirement or departure from the practice. In fact, had I not called to move my appointment, I wouldn't have known until I showed up to the office. Not acceptable - especially for a patient who had been seeing the same dentist for 8+ years. I specifically scheduled with Dr. Deaver. Given I have trusted the office for so long - and created relationships with the doctor, the hygienists, and the front desk staff. I took the information I was told over the phone at face value, while disappointing, and found an alternative dental office closer to home in the suburbs. I recently found out that Dr. Deaver did NOT retire. In fact, the retirement story was one of many that were shared with his patients upon his departure. There are stories of retirement, cancer, leaving to teach full-time, etc. Why tell stories to patients? Many patients who have been with the office for many years and largely because of Dr. Deaver and his quality of care and overall character. I cannot believe that I was lied to and feel fortunate in hindsight that I had to call and reschedule my appointment. I can't imagine if I had showed up for my appointment and found out the news once I was already there. To deceive patients who make what I consider such a personal choice - when there are MANY choices for care - is a shameful practice and I caution anyone who reads this review to reconsider. If you read my first review and now read this review, you can clearly see the shift in my perspective. I was truly in support of 25 East Dental prior to the mistreatment of Dr. Deaver. Remember, there are options. I recommend going elsewhere - don't choose an office that won't give you the truth. Word on the street is that Dr. Deaver is practicing in a new office in the city. And the last straw that motivated me to write this is they BECAME AWARE THAT THEY HAD A CYBER SECURITY BREACH ON 4/24/2021 and only today, 3/2/2022 did I receive a legal notice that they were being proactive and immediately notifying us of this breach. Last winter Dr. Smith came in to review my teeth after my cleaning. "You're not Dr. Deaver" I said. "No, I"m not." said Dr. Smith. "Dr. Deaver isn't in today." Next up, the summer cleaning with what seemed to be a repeat of xrays from the previous two visits. Again after my cleaning in comes Dr. Smith. I said "I'll say what I said last time, 'You're Not Dr. Deaver.'" He said "Dr. Deaver retired from the practice to teach full time." Dang, after entrusting my dental care to Dr. Deaver, some of which had been quite involved, I was crushed to hear that he had left without a message to his clients, especially if he was handing us off to a new team. Turns out that it was all a load of crap. Someone bought the business and Dr. Deaver was no longer welcome. They obviously witnessed how much Dr. Deaver cared for his patients and how we in turn cared for him and was loyal to his practice, so they were unwilling to be truthful. Health care providers should always tell the truth, always. It's egregious that the new owners have told so many lies about what happened to Dr. Deaver. The billing department wasn't always perfect, but I'll take that over Dr. Smith telling me that I needed approximately $5,000-$8,000 of work all of a sudden. I get that a dentist practice needs to make money to stay in business, but to create worry in patients about unnecessary work is unethical. I'm all for having work done that is really needed no matter the cost, but I won't be bullied or mislead otherwise. The lies they've told about a good man and respected dentist like Dr. Deaver are unacceptable. Dr. Deaver is in fact alive and well and you can Google him to find him at his new location. read more

When you realize you can't just wait out this pandemic to go to the dentist, it's good to know that the ones you've trusted for years are on top of their game with precautions. They've moved one door down, as they've annexed the neighboring space and are building out larger, socially distanced facilities to treat dental patients. I rang some sort of doorbell and waited in the hall to be let in. I was impressed with the new setup -- clearly 25 East Dental has put thought into the design for safety. I waited in the waiting room until I was called. Magazines and such are put away (great sign) as are the usual brochures (another great sign). Still the same gentle patient care as always. These guys messed up my teeth and didn't admit it. I had been seeing Dr. Deaver for a couple years of routine checkups and cleanings with no problems. I liked Dr. Deaver a lot. He's funny and seems like a nice guy. About a year and half ago I went in for a regular cleaning and there was a new Dr. on staff named Sangalang. After the hygienist cleaned my teeth Dr. Sangalang came in to do the checkup and told me that I had fillings that needed to be replaced. I had no problems with my teeth but I figured he's the Dr. and knows what he's talking about, so I had him replace the fillings. The process was extremely painful. Apparently he didn't administer the Novocain correctly. After the couple of weeks the pain still hadn't subsided to I called up the office and asked if Dr. Deaver could see me since, at this point, I didn't feel comfortable with Dr. Sangalang. Dr. Deaver took a look and said he'd replace the fillings again! This time with a sedative filling since there may have been damage to the root. He replaced the fillings and told me that after a few weeks my teeth should start to feel better and then he'd have to replace the sedative fillings with permanent fillings (Awesome! a 3rd filling replacement!). After a couple of weeks, sure enough they began to feel better. I was still having pain when chewing something crunchy or cold, but it was better then constant pain. So I made my appointment to have the fillings replaced again. When I went in Dr. Deaver looked at my teeth and said "You're all set." "No" I said, "You told me you had to replace the sedative fillings with permanent ones." "Nope, you're all set" he said. At this point I thought either my memory must be going, or Dr. Deaver is pulling the wool over my eyes in order to get out of doing more free work on me. Either way, I was out of there. This time for good. After a few months my teeth were still sensitive to crunch and cold so I decided to try another dentist. My new dentist replaced the sedative fillings which were clearly not permanent. Since then I seem to be on the road to recovery but the teeth are still somewhat sensitive. I wish this never happened and I'm writing this review in the hopes that it won't happen to others. I notice that Dr. Sangalang has since left Dr. Deaver's practice. I really wish Dr. Deaver hadn't tried to pull the wool over my eyes. Otherwise I'd still be seeing him. read more

My experience here has gone from 5 stars to 1 star, due to their unannounced change in billing procedures and inflexibility to work through it. I've been a customer for twelve years. Dr. Deaver (and team) are the only dentist I've gone to since I moved to Chicago. As a dentist, their care is great. They use modern technology, show you pictures of your teeth before/after cleaning, and are generally pleasant to work with. All that comes to an end when billing comes into play. For the first eleven years, not once was I billed for my semi-annual preventative cleaning. When I asked if they took my insurance, the answer was "yes". I suppose it's on me to look up whether they are in network or not, but when the answer is "yes" and you receive no bill at the end and are happy with the service, that's good enough for me. In 2018, the rate negotiated with my insurance was no longer good enough for them and I was sent a bill for $130. Getting an explanation was like pulling a tooth out, but ultimately it sounds like they have joined a group who no longer accepts out of network rates and insists on going after the remaining bill. This is a perfectly valid thing to do for a business, but SOME SORT OF COMMUNICATION would have been appreciated. Plenty of time between making the appointment, checking in, and checking out with the friendly "You're all set". Changing dentists is a frustrating process full of unknowns. A little communication could have cleared this whole process up. It's been real Deaver. I'm sorry that your business practices got in the way of what appears to be many formerly satisfied customers. read more

After reading all the reviews, I felt like this would be a great place to call my "dental" home. I called today and talked to Linda, immediately she cut me off after saying I was a new patient looking for a dentist and 1st question was...when was the last time you went to a dentist. I was honest, I said 2 years....yes I know thats a long time, hence why I'm looking for a dentist. She just laughed at me and said Oh, Wow! Funny story - I had made an appointment with the dentist a while ago. Apparently there are two Dr. Deavers in Chicago - Dr. Deaver the dentist and Dr. Deaver the gynecologist. Guess whose office I accidentally ended up in? They said they didn't have me down for an appointment (obviously) but they could fit me in. Halfway through the paperwork about my sexual history, I started to sense something was wrong. Last time I make that mistake. Anyway, this office is great. I haven't seen Dr. Deaver, but I met with Dr. Yiannis, got a cleaning and then got a wisdom tooth pulled. He was so patient and nice to a girl who was freaking out because she'd never had any dental work done in her life (outside of cleanings), and the tooth was gone in about 2 minutes. His staff is super nice, they don't try to upsell you on useless procedures, and the prices are shockingly reasonable. After my wisdom tooth, I received a letter saying they wanted to make sure I was ok and appreciated my going to them. So nice! (P.S. I have no idea what Dr. Deaver the gynecologist is like. Disappointed to say that my last few visits here have gone farther and farther downhill. I made an appointment for a cleaning 6 months in advance. The morning of the appointment, someone in the office called and left me a message saying they'd have to reschedule me because that's when the dentist has lunch. Ok. Why even have that time slot as an option then? I called back and said I would be able to come in 30 minutes earlier than my scheduled time, but couldn't do any earlier than that. When we got off the phone I received an email confirming an even earlier appointment time that I never agreed to! Annoying. The appointment was mediocre and felt rushed. The dentist spent about 5 minutes with me, and explained nothing except that I'd have to come back for a follow up. Lately I've been getting booked with the other dentists in the office instead of Dr. Deaver, and have not been impressed. Dr. Deaver does a good job of explaining everything so that you know what's going on with your own mouth. The other dentists - not so much. The hygienist was distracted and kept looking away, causing her to polish and suction the outside of my face many times. She did apologize, but kept doing it anyway. Everyone working the front desk was rude and cold and clearly did not want to be there. How do people with such crappy customer service skills even get these kinds of jobs? I used to go out of my way to recommend this office to my friends and coworkers because of the good experiences I'd had. But not so much anymore. read more

Dr. Deaver & Julie are the best! And I am a biased patient--for the first 29 years of my life, my mother was my hygienist, but when I moved to Chicago, I needed to find someone local. My husband's coworker recommended Dr. Deaver & he also checked out on Yelp, so I decided to give them a try. The cleanings & exams are thorough, but they will not recommend unnecessary work--they are genuinely patient-centered, rather than profit-driven. They were the first dental professionals I saw in this city who didn't jump to the conclusion that my recession was due to a lack of flossing (I have been a 3x a day brusher & floss every night for as long as I can remember & have never had gum disease, so I was always put off by that accusation by other dentists/orthodontists). I recommended them to my coworker/friend & she was very pleased too. I would send anyone their way with confidence! As for the billing, I've had no problems whatsoever! read more

I found yelper's feedbacks and reputation about Dr. Deaver and thought it should be a good place. I used to go there for routine checkup and cleaning for a couple years. It was ok. About a year ago, my old crown was off and I made a new crown at this office. They did horrible job. The color of crown was not matched with my other teeth and it was too big to fit. I complained them but they did not fix it well. After a year later, it was off. I complained about it but they said, "we cannot do anything because it has been a year." I am very disappointed.
