Bryan came out and did a thorough walk-through before quoting me a reasonable price for weekly service. He was prompt, polite, and professional. Things quickly went downhill from there over the next 6 weeks. Within the first month, the assigned tech left the system in "time out/service" mode, so that the filter did not run for the rest of the day, nor did the pool light come on that night. When I called the office the next morning to request that the tech come back and reset the system properly, Jen in the office argued with me, "You can fix that yourself". I told her that I was paying $125 for monthly SERVICE and that if it was done incorrectly, I did NOT expect to have to fix things myself. She insisted that she could walk me through it--and when I approached the outside control box, I saw that not only had the tech failed to reset the system properly, he also left the door of the control panel wide open on the prior day's visit. I called again a few weeks later when the tech was in and out of here in well under 10 minutes. I NEVER saw him "brush walls and steps" as the invoice states. Jen told me that a trained tech can perform this task in about "ONE MINUTE"--suggesting that I might have missed seeing it. I also asked about the debris that was still on the bottom of the pool from a midnight rainstorm (even though I had thoroughly cleaned the bottom and the surface of the pool myself at 9 p.m. the night before). Jen informed me that "debris removal" is NOT part of their $125 monthly cost for weekly service--debris removal requires signing up for a more expensive level of service. So with basic weekly service ($125/4.33 visits per month) the company is making $28.86 for each 10-minute visit here and I still have to skim debris from the pool on my own--that's more than $173 ($28.86 x 6) per hour for Universal Pool Service. Now, several hours later, I have a new pool service that agreed to handle things for the very same price--including skimming and debris removal. So far, the new company is much better at SERVICE. read more

Do not waste your time or your money. I had to let them go and they were also unkind and left me hanging with a pool I just filled. In my opinion, they are skilled in the wrong art: dodging their obligation and blaming the customer. You get a different person every time, they don't know your pool, and they don't seem to know what they are doing. We refilled the entire pool and they show up and immediately turned it super cloudy, and bam that was immediately my fault. I needed new filters. Okay fine, they never told me I needed them. I had an issue with my pool. Bryan came over and figured out the issue and it was the underground pops throughout the pool where not circulating water properly causing the pool to be dirty. Switched over to Universal Pool Service after my previous pool cleaner retired. They did a great job with my pool to start with and they made some adjustments to my system and my pool was really clean for the first two months. Since then my pool has had algae, the pool is left in service mode, they haven't skimmed or done any vacuuming even though that was part of the service paid for. Prior to using them, I never had issues with algae. I let them know and they said they would talk to the technician. Still had issues where they would be there for less than 5 minutes and not even skim the pool to the point I would have to brush and skim the pool after the pool tech would come. My regular pool service company said I had a bad bottom manifold on my filter they did not think they could find the part but I would probably need a new filter and cartilage clean. I called Universal for a second option and they found the same problem but did find the part in stock at the manufacturer. After having my pool resurfaced by another company, I was excited to enjoy the remainder of summer with our beautiful new tile and Pebble Sheen. Unfortunately, within a week, I noticed the pop-up cleaning system wasn't working properly and spent a few weekends trying to diagnose & repair the system myself (I consider myself a moderately skilled DIY-er). After I'd run out of ideas, I called Universal Pool Service and spoke with Jen over the phone. I explained everything I'd done thus far, and she & Bryan gave me a few more suggestions to try before they sent someone out to have a look at it. That gave me the impression that I could trust them, because they were actually willing to share some knowledge with me so I could attempt to fix it myself - they didn't go straight for my money. Bryan came out to have a look at the system and determined that my dual pumps, which were about 20 years old, were internally worn and some of the seals in the Jandy valves were likely worn and allowing air into the system. He provided 3 different quotes and gave me plenty of time to mull them over without any pressure to move forward with repairs. I felt the quotes were very reasonable and I ended up having the dual pump system replaced with a single variable speed pump. I appreciated that Bryan took the time to explain the power saving benefits of the new pump and also to point out how quiet it was at the lower speeds - it really adds value to having the repair done. I don't think I've had this level of customer service when dealing with home/pool repairs...ever! The customer service was excellent and Jen was very responsive from start to finish.
