However, my experience in this class did not reflect those values. Mrs. Ace, I hope you take this feedback seriously and reflect on the concerns being brought forward instead of immediately arguing against them. One major issue is the way students' concerns are handled. Mrs. Ace has stated that anyone who writes a negative review will fail in the medical field and in her class. However, I passed her course and passed my CNA certification exam on my first attempt. Providing honest feedback does not determine a student's ability to succeed in healthcare. There were multiple situations where students were made to feel embarrassed, dismissed, or discouraged. For example, one student asked about a correction on a quiz question and attempted to explain her reasoning. Instead of discussing the concern professionally, Mrs. Ace refused to listen, repeatedly threatened to remove the student from the class, and the situation ended with the student crying. After discussing the same question with my father, who is a neurosurgeon, he agreed with the student's reasoning. This showed that the concern was valid and should have been addressed respectfully. Mrs. Ace frequently belittles students rather than creating an environment where they feel comfortable learning and asking questions. There is a difference between maintaining high standards and making students feel intimidated or disrespected. The biggest issue with this class is not the curriculum or clinical experience; it is the instructor's attitude, communication style, and treatment of students. A CNA program should prepare students for healthcare by encouraging professionalism, confidence, and respect.

It is amazing how it is the only college in Chicago that has a Surgical Technology and EEG Tech programs. The retention and graduation rates well exceed those of its competitors, including community colleges. The staff and faculty take pride in serving their students and enabling them to begin their careers in healthcare, and now in IT and business. It's definitely a great value proposition for this who thing the traditional college is not the right path for them.

I took the Excel Intermediate Class and am planning to take the advanced class. My instructor went…read moreslow enough for all of us to stay with her, but not too slow where it dragged. She also went fast enough so that we stayed on our toes, but she created an environment where we didn't feel too shy about asking questions and stopping her for stuff. We got breaks in between and I'm planning to take the Advanced class in the new year. Good pace and I feel more comfortable with some of the functions I've been doing on Excel at work. A Few Tips I'd leave with those taking this class: 1) There are no numbers or labels or signs on any of the doors inside this company. It's like a maze, so you need to know where you're going, and remember it. It isn't too hard, but if you're directionally challenged, find place markers or a friend who isn't. 2) Water sources are only in the Kitchen area. So, bring your own water bottle. They only allow covered liquids in the classroom. 3) There is a cafe on the 2nd floor that is worth checking out. I hear it's pretty tasty and prices didn't look too bad. I didn't try it this time, but will definitely try it when i go back. There are only a few places that are super close by.... and with traffic on 59, eating out might not be worth the risk. 4) The receptionist will tell you to hang your coat in the closet near the front because the space between the computers is small. I didn't want to - and when I got to the classroom, there was enough room for my coat to hang over my chair, and for me to tuck my purse underneath the desk. Its not super roomy, but you don't have to say goodbye to your coat and personal belongings if you don't want to. Just don't bring a suitecase.

As I peruse job postings, in search of a new job, I realize how many computer programs I don't…read moreknow. These days, you need to know more than Microsoft Word to get by. Though I use a layout program at work, it is outdated and not the one currently used in many companies. I decided to take a class to learn what I needed to know. My first search was at local community colleges, but those courses can be pricey and take 8 weeks to complete. I don't have that kind of time. Luckily I found Computer Training Source and what a good find that was. I went on their website, clicked the program that I needed (Adobe InDesign), and chose the level I wanted. They show you the class schedule for each course. I can't take a class during the day, and the Saturday course seemed expensive. Luckily, they had a special, which was $149 for 3 hours on Tuesday and Thursday in the evening. That worked perfectly with my schedule and the price was good, so I signed up. You get an e-mail saying to arrive 15 minutes before class starts but really, you don't have to. The day before my class, I received an e-mail informing me that the doors outside of the classroom are locked in the evening so if we can't get in, we should call the instructor. I did have to do that for both classes, but he was right down the hall so it wasn't a big deal. There were only about 8 people in my class. There are enough computers for everyone, and even some Macs if you requested one when signing up for the class. Three hours is a long class, especially after a day of work, but Ed, the instructor, was great. He talked really fast, but will stop if you have a question and explain something if you didn't get it the first time. The class was really easy to follow, as he showed us how to do everything on the projector screen. By the second and final class, we designed a page of a newsletter. He gave us a bunch of tips on how to simplify things that he had learned through practice and went more in depth than the book did. Though I learned the basic skills needed for this program, I'm going to take the Intermediate class just to get more in depth knowledge, as I would probably be using this program in future jobs. Also, if you feel you need a refresher on a course, you can take it again for free within six months of the first time you took it. I'm so glad I found CTS. It has been so helpful and I've recommended it to several people who realized they should also take come classes in other software.

Not only does he do the training but he (and Julie) goes the extra mile by helping each and every student get a job in the medical field after they graduate. One caveat here, there is no such thing as a guaranteed job! Nobody can offer you that. So the graduate MUST be flexible in regards to where they're going to work, which might mean traveling to a location that is out of the way or working inconvenient hours in order to be flexible. But once you get that experience you'll have a much better chance of getting a better position in the future. John is a man of many talents, he recruits, trains and places students in a field where there is currently a limited shortage. Both him and Julie are approachable and open to helping anybody who has a serious commitment for entering the medical field. So I waited over 1 year before reviewing Symbol Job training school…read more I have to say it was a really great place to learn an excellent foundation for the machinist industry. Paul was my shop teacher and he explained everything very well and I currently use it all on my job. I also like how they taught us a few side notes about finding the right job where you can learn and grow as a machinist. To date I am on my 4th job and here is why: 1st job was just an operator and they taught us to get into a place where you can learn instead of just making the same parts all day. The pay at $14/hour was OK so it was tempting to keep it but I'm glad I upgraded after 3 weeks. 2nd job was working on HAAS mills for $16/hour which is exactly what we learned on at Symbol so it was easy but I found it a little too easy. Just mass production and I also bought a house 1.5 hours away so I needed to change again after 4 months. 3rd job was where I really learned a lot. It was a small "Job Shop" with about 7 employees and we made very different parts all the time with tight tolerances. I made $15/hour here. We also had HAAS machines and used 4th axis turrets in them. They saw that I was a fast learner and I was ambitious to start learning Mastercam Programming and I got a good foundation in programming from that. Just like the instructors said, get the right job where you can learn. They got slow on work so I was laid off along with some others so I was only there for about 7 months. 4th job making $18/hour is setting up 5 axis machines making and mostly editing Mastercam programs to make adjustments in part dimensions although I need to take some of the online classes Mastercam offers for 5 Axis programming which is only $250/class but I want to push myself anyway. I see myself here for a while as it's an excellent skill to have with Mastercam AND 5 axis machines. Overall I got a much better foundation from Symbol than many of the other coworkers who either went to a different school or learned on the job. Obviously there is always more to learn and I don't know everything but Symbol got me started. Well worth the money. Get the right job where you can grow your skills and never stop learning.
