You will learn the material, but the organization, communication, and professionalism need significant improvement. It is not reflective of the medical field, training or professionalism required. For a fast-track CNA program lasting roughly two weeks, students need a reliable schedule and clear expectations. Instead, there were at least six last-minute schedule changes, many with less than 12 hours' notice, with most of these hours overnight. Examples include being told at 10:00 p.m. that a specific non-smart watch was required for 8:00 a.m. the next morning, extending the course several days over a holiday weekend shortly before class began, then changing the schedule again and ending early after students had already cancelled work or travel plans. There was also only one day of clinicals, which seems inadequate for such a hands-on field. Most concerning, students were publicly called out or embarrassed. One student's "punishment" for talking was being required to teach part of the class the next day. Paying students should be taught by the qualified instructor they enrolled with, not used as part of another student's punishment. An accelerated program requires flexibility, but students should still receive professional communication, advance notice of required supplies, adequate clinical experience, and a schedule that is respected.

While it's obviously not a school that fits everyone's needs, it's an option for people who aren't interested in attending a community college or a four year university as not everyone wants to take World History, Art, and Psychology classes. As a Technical Recruiter for a commercial truck dealership group out of Illinois and Missouri, we are always looking for Diesel Techs. When I say "always", I mean my company is at UTI recruiting (for various events) roughly 10-12 times a year. Approximately 27% of our techs are UTI grads - and we have a few hundred techs. UTI is the #1 school that we hire techs from. Do you think we would spend so much time recruiting out of UTI if they didn't produce a quality entry level technician? :) When it's all said and done you get out of life what you put into it. Junk in, junk out. Quality in, quality out. I recommend making a decision on what you want to do and where you want to go to school based on the time you've spent looking into each school. I invite you to do your own research. Ask people you know who have graduated from schools you're looking at what their experience is like. Visit at least four or five schools (technical schools, community colleges, four-year universities, etc. - whatever interests you) and come with a list of prepared questions. Get all of your questions answered at every school and see how the teachers, admission reps, career services personnel, and administration respond. But they've done a great job preparing people to be entry level techs in a wide variety of industries. Over the past 50 years, they've graduated over 200,000 students! They're constantly looking to improve their student experience, curriculum, training, products, advertising, relationships within the community, graduation and placement rates, social media presence, and more! The retention and graduation rates well exceed those of its competitors, including community colleges. So I waited over 1 year before reviewing Symbol Job training school…read more I have to say it was a really great place to learn an excellent foundation for the machinist industry. Paul was my shop teacher and he explained everything very well and I currently use it all on my job. I also like how they taught us a few side notes about finding the right job where you can learn and grow as a machinist. To date I am on my 4th job and here is why: 1st job was just an operator and they taught us to get into a place where you can learn instead of just making the same parts all day. The pay at $14/hour was OK so it was tempting to keep it but I'm glad I upgraded after 3 weeks. 2nd job was working on HAAS mills for $16/hour which is exactly what we learned on at Symbol so it was easy but I found it a little too easy. Just mass production and I also bought a house 1.5 hours away so I needed to change again after 4 months. 3rd job was where I really learned a lot. It was a small "Job Shop" with about 7 employees and we made very different parts all the time with tight tolerances. I made $15/hour here. We also had HAAS machines and used 4th axis turrets in them. They saw that I was a fast learner and I was ambitious to start learning Mastercam Programming and I got a good foundation in programming from that. Just like the instructors said, get the right job where you can learn. They got slow on work so I was laid off along with some others so I was only there for about 7 months. 4th job making $18/hour is setting up 5 axis machines making and mostly editing Mastercam programs to make adjustments in part dimensions although I need to take some of the online classes Mastercam offers for 5 Axis programming which is only $250/class but I want to push myself anyway. I see myself here for a while as it's an excellent skill to have with Mastercam AND 5 axis machines. Overall I got a much better foundation from Symbol than many of the other coworkers who either went to a different school or learned on the job. Obviously there is always more to learn and I don't know everything but Symbol got me started. Well worth the money. Get the right job where you can grow your skills and never stop learning.
