I live in an apartment complex called Legacy Apartment. I got ready to drive to work at 5:00 AM to find out my car was towed because I some how "double parked." Despite me being in between the white lines and no cars being around mine. Then being told by Universal Towing, I have to pay 170 dollar in CASH to get it back. Horrible Experience with Universal Roadside Repair/Universal Towing - Avoid at All Costs! I had the absolute worst luck ever breaking down near Daytona Beach, FL on a Friday. Unfortunately, it only got worse when I decided to use Universal Towing. After no help Friday night, I found Universal Towing on the NTTS website Saturday and called. I spoke with Valerie, explaining that my clutch was bad and I needed both a tow and repair. I asked for an ETA and if they could replace the clutch on Monday morning. Valerie promised a 90-minute tow and confirmed they could handle the clutch Monday morning. She charged me $850 for the tow and quoted $125/hr labor, estimating 10-11 hours of labor, plus the cost of the clutch. It all sounded reasonable, so I authorized the tow at 3:49 PM. But that 90-minute tow? It didn't arrive until 6:13 PM! When the driver arrived, he tried to charge me more right away. After some back-and-forth, we agreed to tow both the truck and trailer together, but I was already concerned. Monday morning, I started calling the office--seven times--before they finally gave me Steve's number, the mechanic. When Steve called me back, he said the clutch was fine, and the issue was with the sleeve and master cylinder. But, of course, they didn't have the parts locally. He said the parts would arrive Tuesday around lunch, but I couldn't wait that long. I found the parts three hours away and sent one of my drivers to pick them up so we could get back on the road. This is where the nightmare got worse: My driver arrived with the parts, but nobody answered him until the next morning. When we finally heard from them, we were told the mechanic was at a "drug meeting" and would be back soon. Steve texted me later, saying he was wrapping up something else and would start on my truck shortly. At 2:30 PM, Steve finally arrived--but after all that wasted time, he now said I actually did need a new clutch after all! He added that they had a clutch in stock, though he wasn't sure if it was $800 or $900, and assured me it would only take three hours to finish the job. Then came the real kicker: My truck wasn't even at their shop. It was parked at some random yard, and they said they couldn't work on it there. Steve promised they wouldn't charge me for another tow, but they didn't move the truck to their shop until Wednesday at 2:50 PM--TWO DAYS LATER! When the truck finally arrived at their shop, Steve again promised that it would only take three hours to complete the job. But instead of using experienced mechanics, they hired a random mechanic on the spot--someone who didn't speak English. (Just to be clear, the issue isn't that the mechanic spoke Spanish--we are all immigrants here--but none of the staff at Universal spoke Spanish!) My driver witnessed the chaos firsthand. The mechanic was haggling over wages, demanding $25/hr instead of $15/hr, while my truck sat untouched. They started working around 5 PM but kicked my driver out at 7 PM, telling him he wasn't allowed inside anymore. On Thursday, Steve disappeared completely, and I spent the whole day chasing Angie at the office, who kept assuring me the job was "almost done." Meanwhile, my customers were calling non-stop, worried that we had stolen their vehicles. On Friday morning, Angie claimed they were dealing with broken bolts and said they were just about done. What they didn't know was that my husband had flown from Massachusetts to Orlando that morning because I had a bad feeling. When he arrived at **noon on Friday--six days after the tow and three days after the parts were delivered--nobody was working on the truck! The staff were speechless when my husband introduced himself as the owner. They tried to excuse the delay by saying their jack had broken and they were out buying a new one. I will attach a picture of this mess--it was beyond ridiculous. Finally, at 4 PM on Friday, they finished the job. But the nightmare didn't end there--the invoice was the final insult. They charged us $4,570.89, even though the only part they provided was the clutch. Remember how Steve originally said the clutch would be $800-$900? Well, suddenly it became $1,690! Based on the original quote, here's what I expected to pay: $850 for the tow $900 for the clutch 11 hours of labor at $125/hr = $1,375 With taxes, I expected a total of $3,343.75. But instead, they tacked on $1,227.14 in extra charges. To top it all off, they refused to accept a card, even though I had confirmed from day one that I would pay by card. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS! These people are professional scammers. They wasted four days of my time, delayed my deliveries, and overcharged me by more than $1,200. I just pray that the repair holds and I don't end up stranded again anytime soon. Here's a fun little story. My truck got towed today by Universal Towing in Holly Hill. This is hands down one of the most unethical, corrupt, and shady businesses I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. I was parked correctly, on private property, for less than an hour. Here is the reason I was given for why it was towed. "Your registration is expired". When I proved that my registration was in fact NOT expired and that I had the proper registration, insurance, and a valid license I was then told, "Well your sticker is expired". To which my response was that there is no Florida Statute requiring that renewal stickers have to be displayed on the issued plate. In fact, if you read the statutes that are listed with your registration renewal you will see very clearly that the only Florida Statute that is listed, in regards to registration and the sticker, is 320.0605 FS "...requires that the registration certificate, or true copy of a rental or lease agreement, issued for any motor vehicle to be in the possession of the operator or carried in the vehicle while the vehicle is being used or operated on roads in this state." Not to mention that the original statute, 320.08056(8)(a), clearly states, "with each license plate, a validation sticker shall be issued showing the owners birth month, license plate number, and the year of expiration...the validation sticker shall be placed on the upper right hand corner of the license plate" meaning that the only sticker that is required to be displayed is the original sticker that is issued TO VALIDATE the original registration of the plate. Not renewal. When I confronted Universal Towing with this information they said it didn't matter because they have a contract with the Apartment Complex. To which I responded that the apartment complex has a contract (lease) with its tenants that clearly outlines the parking guidelines and says that ANY vehicle that is parked on their lot with an invalid registration sticker will have a 24-hour notice to move or correct the violation. No such notice was issued because I was there for LESS THAN AN HOUR. Universal Towing still refused to return my legal private property without a $150 fee. The definition of extortion is, "the practice of obtaining something, ESPECIALLY MONEY, through force or threats" which is exactly what they did. They stole my property and then threatened to keep it if I didn't pay them money. When I recovered my vehicle (what choice did I have?!) I got in and my dashboard literally said, "THEFT ATTEMPTED"!!! I would say theft more than attempted, succeed. Not to mention when I got home I walked around my truck and wouldn't you know it, a nice big ol' dinger right in the passenger front wheel well. It took me two hours, cost me $150, and resulted in damage to my vehicle all because some CRIMINAL company wanted to squeeze me for some quick cash. This is an absolute OUTRAGE. read more

They picked up my car and told me on the drive it would be $500 for me and $200 for GEICO. I got on the phone with GEICO then GEICO said it was only $96 for me. Driver held me there at the garage where I had it towed telling me his dispatch was working it out with GEICO and now there was only a $200 difference. Everything was all a "big misunderstanding". Driver told he they don't have a contract with GEICO and can charge as they want. I have time stamped pictures and a surveillance video proving that they were waiting for me to leave my car to take advantage and make easy money and towed my car away. Inside the establishment I was never notified that it was being towed. The establishment said they never even placed a call for it to get towed. They refused to give me my car unless I had $160 cash on my person. 2 people were there, the driver name was Alex and the manager. They claimed they didn't think I was there to buy anything. Even after showing them my purchase receipt, I asked if they really expected me to pay them for a mistake that they made and both the manager and driver said that they didn't care and wanted me to pay up. Because I spend most of my mont doing volunteer work, I didn't even have the money to get my car out, I had to beg someone to loan me the money. The police looked at the evidence, agreed that they were corrupt and that I should make a civil case against them. June 6th 2021 my husband and I went out to lunch and parking was scarce . We parked and looked to see if there were any sign for no parking or tow away zone. We saw none. When we came back from lunch our car was gone. As we walked up to the lot a couple told us our car was towed along with there's . They had talked to the tow driver before we got there and they saw the tow driver move a "Tow away Zone sign" from across the street and plant it in the parking lot where our car used to be. Pictures were taken.NO signage. Both cars ended up towed to Universal Towing 524 LPGA Blvd. in Holly Hill. We went to the tow yard and complained and showed pictures, the attendant said she could do nothing. When we get the paper work that has to be signed, for our car, I wanted to sign with a note about protesting.The attendant would not let us sign the paperwork she told us to write that information on our copy. I said, then no one would know what happened. In my opinion this is a scam. They should have let both of us sign what our complaint was on all 3 copies of the paper work. The attendant would only give us an unsigned receipt. There was no visible signage, the tow truck driver moved the sign from across the street to the lot where we were parked and, they would not let us document our complaints. We have two witnesses and pictures. The pictures were taken before the tow driver towed my vehicle. I'm now $160.00 out of pocket. We reported this to the better business bureau and the company never responded to our complaint. read more

Yesterday they towed my car with the parking pass from the hotel inside of it. I had to drive to the towing place and wait for somebody to come. The guy gets out and wouldn't even listen to me tell him pass is in my car along with my purse and Id. He refuses to let me go to my car and show him . He proceeded to say I had to pay $160 to get near my car. So I had to call the police on the guy. The police escorted to my car to get my stuff and people I even opened my door you could clear as day see my pass on the seat big white ass piece of paper with dates on it. Terrible company that will try to rob you. My car was towed at 2am and when I went to pick it up the next morning at 8am I called probably 100 times, left a voicemail and stood outside for almost 2 hours for nobody to answer or call me back until about 10:30am after I left already. When I finally was able to get in touch with somebody to pick up my car and get back over there it was around 1pm. I was told over and over "$160 cash, cash only" and when I asked for change back, the driver told me that they don't give you change back and whatever cash you have, they keep the change for themselves as a "tip"..... so I responded "I'll just go break this and come back then" and he responded "I won't be here when you get back so you'll have to wait another hour and pay an extra $30 of a late fee since it's been 12 hours since your car was towed" KNOWING I WAS THERE FOR 2 HOURS IN THE MORNING CALLING THEM AND LEAVING VOICEMAILS. On top of the fact he made a tip for letting me get my car back, he overcharged me $35 for picking up my car during "non business hours" AT 1PM IN THE AFTERNOON?!!?? I should have only paid $125 to get my car back and these thieves overcharged me and I ended up having to pay $170. Unfortunately I didn't realize until I left that was supposed to pay just $125. This should be illegal and they do everything they can to not let you get your car back so they can add even more charges. Very unprofessional. Horrible company owned by horrible people. read more
