Small but adorable flower, plant, and merchandise shop in Ann Arbor's Nickel's Arcade. They have the BEST floral design talent and the bouquets and creations they put together are always gorgeous. There's also a modernity to their design which I really like. If you're in the market for wedding florals, they put together stunning arrangements for that. They are pretty expensive though, and it's a little confusing if you try to walk in and pick up a small bouquet or flowers to go. You'll see individual stems separated by flower type and you can either choose what you want or get help putting something together. This is a good window shopping kind of store for me, or a special occasion shop. read more

I can say that shop is small and adorable with some very lovely plants. I can't say I'd come back though because I stood and walked around the shop for over 5 minutes, and not one of the FOUR women working at the time said not one word to me. The store isn't that big, and I stood by two of them that weren't on the phone. Not even a head nod to acknowledge me. Maybe it's because I wasn't full on Ann Arbor appropriate attire, finally coming in here as I waited for my daughter at the salon, (no makeup, hair up, post Covid look) but it was not as welcoming as any of the other stores that I entered. What a cute shop located in the cutest place in Ann Arbor -- Nickels Arcade! This place is so sweet, although I can't speak to their flowers. Ironically, I've only ever gotten plants and other goodies that they sell, but the flowers behind the counter always look so beautiful! :) Indoor plants-wise I can definitely speak towards the shop's abilities! Overall, they are a small shop, so stock is going to be very limited, but over the past year or so, I've definitely seen an uptick in the plants they've been selling, which is super fun! Knowledge-wise though, the employees and owners aren't too knowledgeable on plants and their care. I received a "shamrock" plant as a gift that a friend of mine bought from here once, which is how the shop had marketed them. This was, expectedly, during St. Patty's day timeframe, but upon receipt of this and looking it up, I quickly learned that this, in fact, is not a shamrock plant, but rather a completely different part of the oxalis family. I know it's a relatively minor thing, but I think it's just a pet peeve of mine to be mis-marketing and mis-labeling plants as something they are not. Additionally, I have bought one other plant from here myself, in addition to receiving the oxalis, and both died fairly quickly. Now, I don't consider myself an expect plant owner, but I'm also certainly no beginner, and I have in my care 30+ house plants that are all doing great. It is rare that I kill a plant, so it was pretty interesting that both of these plants died on me in a really quick time frame because it suggests it wasn't because of me or my house environment that did them in. I have definitely been hesitant since then to purchase any plants from them. In my most recent visit to them, they were having a plant sale outdoors, and just upon first glance of their plants, all of them looked like they had seen better days. In general, I would recommend that you be hesitant to buy plants from here, as there are many places in and around Ann Arbor that have much larger, much healthier looking plant stock. I have continued to support University Flower Shop through the purchase of plant pots and other cute plant-themed accessories like notebooks that they carry as well, and look forward to purchasing flowers from them at some point in the future! read more

Before ever getting engaged, I knew that University Flower Shop (UFS) would be my go to spot if I were ever planning a wedding. On occasions when I bought succulents or floral arrangements, they always turned out beautifully. Ordering online was always easy and the price points were reasonable. When it did finally come to planning a wedding, I worked with UFS owner, Dani, directly. My groom and I met with her for an in-person consultation early in the process, giving her guidelines of our vision and color scheme. With the exception of wanting wisteria, I kept flowers to whatever was in season. Following our consultation, she was readily available by email and worked with us to make our vision come to life. She even visited the venue with us and worked directly with them, since we needed special accommodation for hanging floral chandeliers. The results were stunning! The floral installations in the ballroom sprang to life and guests commented about how stunning the room was and like nothing they have ever seen before. I cannot give Dani a higher recommendation. Lovely flower shop in Nickel's Arcade right on campus. I've admittedly not gotten any formal bouquets from them but their other offerings are beautiful. It's just so soothing and welcoming in there! The terrariums, succulents, air plants, pots and the small smattering of housewares make a lovely gift if you want something with a bit more longevity than an arrangement. Although, don't get me wrong, the cooler with the flowers and their arrangements ARE beautiful and would make any recipient very happy, I'm sure! Also cool? They offer workshops! If ever wanted to know more about plants, centerpieces and more, they have some offerings now and again. Their current holiday schedule offers a wreath class, calligraphy, vintage sweater planters, and holiday centerpieces. I've picked out bouquets with my friends here before and they turned out well, but I was disappointed with my first experience. To start with the good: I think this really is a nice flower shop. The employees are incredibly friendly and willing to work with customers to make a bouquet that fits both the occasion and any budget constraints. It smells heavenly inside, and the flowers are all on display to make the selection process easy. They also do a great job of wrapping up the flowers in different types of beautiful materials, with even options like burlap. However, my first purchase here turned out to be pretty unsatisfying. I spotted a beautiful flower in the display and immediately wanted it in my arrangement. The flower costed $4, which was fine, but to my dismay, the flowerhead fell off before I had the chance to give the bouquet to my friend. If a single flower costs so much, I would've expected it to last longer than it did. To me, the low quality of the flower unfortunately cancelled out some of the other things that I love about this flower shop. read more

Ultimately, I adopted three gorgeous succulents at a reasonable price, and checked out with the kind people behind the register. I specifically asked for a bouquet costing around $30 in a small vase, what I ended up with was a bouquet that cost $108! I felt that I could not refuse it (they did it quickly and were so nice), so I did buy it, I just was not expecting the cost to be almost 4 times what I wanted to spend. Terrible service! Do not go to University Flower Shop! My fiance recently took the LSAT and I had decided to get her some flowers to congratulate her for this big accomplishment. I walked over to University Flower Shop because it is relatively close to where I live and had some good reviews. I showed up at about 4:55 p.m. (not knowing this was 5 minutes before closing). The door was wide open when I got there so I thought nothing of it. I stood at the counter for a few seconds and noticed that someone was working with her back turned to me. So I said hello. I wasn't met with what I expected: a warm smile, hello, and what can I do for you. Instead this person glared at me and said "we're closed," in a VERY rude way. "Oh I'm sorry, the door was open," I replied. "Ya we'll we're closed!" she scoffed. I couldn't believe it. What small business is rude to its customers? What small business turns away a paying customer?!? There were plenty of flowers sitting there. I had money in my pocket. It would have taken her a few minutes to ring me up and wrap the flowers. But instead she just acted like I was a nuisance. I was flabbergasted. Do not ever go to University Flower Shop. They do not care about their customers. The person behind the counter (who was arranging a bouquet) said "can I help you?" to which I responded I'm looking for some flowers for my anniversary. She replied "I'm sorry I can't help you. I have special-ordered flowers from multiple florists in multiple states over the last 10 years, and have NEVER had anything like the terrible experience I had with the University Flower Shop! I spoke with the staff a week in advance, and gave them a detailed description of what I wanted. I followed up with a written description and a photo of a comparable bouquet by email. I confirmed the requirements the day before pick-up, emphasizing the important elements (long stems, exotic flowers, dramatic colors, water tubes for the major stems), and re-stating the price range ($50-70, closer to $50 if possible). The next day they produced tiny bouquet of tulips and small wild-flowers (many of which were wilted/wilting), in pastel colors, with the stems wrapped in damp paper towels and charged me $80! Unbelievable. They were polite when I refused to accept the bouquet, but if they weren't able to make the kind of arrangement I wanted, they should have told me. I ended up getting flowers at Trader Joe's for $25 and arranging them myself. Not quite what I had hoped for, but WAY better than the flowers provided by University Flower Shop. read more
