I am only giving three stars due to the length of time it took to close my file. The start of my process went by very smoothly. Towards the end there was alot of back and fourth that made me even wonder if my loan was going to go through. My loan officer was Aces (Timothy)very professional, patient and has a great sense of humor. Accessibility to him was great even assured me all was well an to not worry(I was a mess, it was very stressful, no fault of him, just the human that I am). Covid did delay the process a bit as it took 6weeks before my title came back. To be fair, I do believe that because of the interest rate being at this low rate it may have spiked more people to not only purchase homes but to also refinace. I do believe this series of events may have played apart in the delay of my file. Ultimately, I am super excited because I was able to close on my home despite everything and of course now I am more excited to be a new home owner. Disgraceful; and I never wish Ill will on others but I hope their kin receives the same nasty treatment as my wife and I did; they seemed like the type that goes to "help" who knows them. My wife and I simply inquired about purchasing a new home via VA loan; as we were new to this and only asked questions about 7 years ago. The older lady with black hair (don't recall her name; might have been Arlene or Aileen) was dismissive, nasty and had the nerve to say " you're not buying crap without a loan for 650K around here I don't care if you're a veteran with a VA loan move out of state if this doesn't work." And this is without hearing that we were not ready at the time and we're only inquiring. She also greeted three other couples walking in that she seemed to know via relative or work or whatever with a welcoming demeanor. Does asking questions in Long Island only get answers privy to those who know someone? My wife left there bawling in the car thinking that was the case. I called back this lady and after 5 tries I got her on the phone. Let's put it this way; the conversation went like this: Lady: Whose this? Me: Hi I'm Lady: Who?! Speak up! I mentioned who I was and she recalled me and made a smug comment of how I should be more vocal as a member of the military. Does she want me to scream into the phone like a USMC drill instructor? Or be polite and have manners like I was taught versus herself who thinks I'm a second class citizen? She then referred me to her coworker and I believe his name was Alex. Alex spoke with us so briefly he almost hung up on us. We took a chance and we contacted him 2 years after the meeting with the lovely first interaction with said company and he avoided any and all return calls; emails; texts, etc. Needless to say we went with someone else who didn't treat us like a number or someone they "knew". Yeah this veteran, his wife with medical needs and their toddler FOUND a house without their help thank god. What outright scumbags, no wonder why most people move away from here after retirement! I just wanted to leave this as a warning for anyone who may run into these individuals in this company or working in the same field under another other company. I would have posted this before but since we have recently moved into our home on Long Island via someone else and somewhere for my daughter to grow up. I feel it should be posted here and now as a victory of how one company wasn't as abrasive with us as Alex and his older female worker was (Aileen/Arlene). read more

My experience is from the selling side. My guy's grandparents had to sell their home. It was a very traumatic experience, I suppose most people don't take into account the high taxes of Long Island when planning for retirement. This was a home they had been in for over 40 years. On the day we signed the papers (last Friday), we were all exhausted from packing the tall Ranch up. We didn't need any more drama, or negativity. Needless to say there was a Courier who apparently was offended by a member of the United Northern Mortgage Banking office. Apparently the male member of the staff referred the Courier as "stupid" and insinuated the Courier did not like his job. My in-law Grandparents were already in the signing room with the buyer and all respective parties. From what I was told the courier had been going loudly on for about 15 minutes before I arrived. I could hear him from the hallway when I was walking up the stairs. I was quite upset about this. The Courier was at the reception desk giving the secretary a hard time, there was a male member of the office and a shorter dark haired female member of the office there as well. The secretary was doing a fine job of trying to Defuse The Situation. I honestly felt really bad for her, sitting in a seat below a man yelling at you is a very submissive position = uncomfortable. The male office member the Courier was directing his anger toward and complaining about was holding strong. The Courier was demanding his name, he wanted to file a complaint - which sounded like he was trying to build a racial discrimination or racial profiling case against the office. Needless to say, if the male member of the office did indeed say such things a weak case could be built given the situation we are in in our current Society in 2018. Obviously The Courier was upset and didn't need any hostility directed toward him as hostility begets hostility. Duh! None the less, my 3-star rating isn't about the United Northern Mortgage Banking abilities in regards to the home purchasing process, it's about the office staff and how they obviously need more HR training. There was a female member of the staff who's every word only enraged the man escalating the situation even more. I was looking at my grandparents' face in the signing room and completely appalled the situation wasn't even taken outside to the hallway. It was upsetting them, rightfully so! This female staff member in yellow was argumentative, demeaning to the Courier, and certainly not in control. Regardless of whether or not this man was in the right, I expect professionals to act like professionals and do a professional job of handling situations such as this. Based on her attitude, I certainly would never want to do business with this company because I wouldn't want somebody who doesn't know how to treat other people to work with me especially when large amounts of money are involved. She obviously didn't have human compassion. Not only for The Courier, but for the elderly couple inside signing over their home. She didn't care about the clients in the signing room, she only wanted to argue. Maybe she started her period that day, maybe she had a fight with her whatever, regardless of whatever her issues were or mood medication she may have missed her lack of class and behavior were unacceptable. Fortunately, the situation was saved by the Vice President coming down and removing the Courier from the office. I have to say the office space is nicely appointed, the signing room was respectable, the staff was apologetic with the exception of the one female who needs situational awareness as well as conflict resolution training. No joke, not even a thousand #facepalms are enough! When the signing was over, I'm glad my guy and I were there. His elderly Grandparents were visibly shaken. His grandma trying to be strong, was sweating profusely and had to be assisted to her car. Granted it IS very daunting to sign such paperwork, however when situations do arise I would expect a staff to have enough consideration to handle it responsibly and with more compassion. Typical bankers not in touch with humanity, all they care about is money. read more

He always had excuses as to why he doesn't return calls or respond to emails. Everyone had to chase him for updates... Look else where for mortgage. So many better options out-there. read more

This is the worst mortgage bank ever! We started our mortgage in July and just closed yesterday December 10th after 5 agonizing months. They are unresponsive and do not answer emails/calls in a timely fashion. They are rude and condescending. We had 3 mortgage commitment dates come and go and we almost lost the house several times because the seller did not want to keep on waiting for us to get this mortgage. Do not use this company. As the seller of a property, I have never once in my life had to get involved with the buyer's mortgage broker until today. United Northern is the most unprofessional, incompetent, disrespectful company / set of brokers you can ever work with. I had one broker by the name of Tim Colon who spoke with me in the most demeaning way, who lied and never returned calls as he promised, did not close as he guaranteed, and did not respond to my end of people working on the deal in a timely fashion, cost me thousands of dollars because of his and the underwriters' mistakes for NOT being able to read the files. They pushed back and cost me time and effort and patience because they could not figure out that all taxes and water bills were all paid. Instead, they kept insisting that there were errors and low and behold, there were none. Their lack of knowledge, expertise and intelligence cost me time and money, which don't go well for me. I called United to speak with Tim Colon's manager, Mike Gannon , and he told me to go 'fuc* myself' when I began telling him how unprofessional this was. Was I upset? Who wouldn't be when they were losing close to $8,000 because of THEIR MISTAKE? Any other mortgage broker company that I have worked with has never once been this disgusting, this rude, and frankly, this ridiculous - they have done their jobs and knew what to look for and never once delayed a closing. As a Middle Eastern woman, I feel absolutely insulted and degraded by the way a misogynist like Mike Gannon spoke with me - all because he did not like my disappointment with Tim Colon. I am absolutely thrown off by how a man like this can represent a mortgage company with such 'lack of integrity' and 0 respect / decency. Can't seem to get a clear to close with them due to the fact they are requesting a document that is unnecessary and unobtainable. know three people planning to purchase homes now who asked me who my lender was, and I refused to give a recommendation. Working with Alex Espinosa was frustrating and ultimately a disappointment. Before my closing date, I knew exactly what my critique of Alex would be: he has his hand in way too many places it doesn't belong. If I had a dollar for everytime Alex told me he contacted the seller's attorney or realtor and he "wasn't supposed too but [did] it anyway" I could buy myself dinner. A professional doesn't continue to communicate when he isn't supposed too, and the burden would fall on me with Alex panicking me because he had one-sided half information. It was emotionally straining to say the least. But the true problem was a lack of vital information. Our loan was an FHA loan, and the money for our down payment and closing was in an Out of State Bank. I had no idea this wasn't allowed, because Alex never told me. He took all my information for this bank account, and never once mentioned that I was not allowed to use a check from this account. My lawyer informed me right before closing. I contacted Alex (and I have the text message to prove it) to ask if I could transfer it to another NY bank to get the certified check for closing. He said yes, as long as I could trace the money. Well guess what, the bank lawyer wouldn't accept my check at closing because of Alex's misinformation. I had to take an additional day off of work, and make two wire transfers which had to be completed before 5pm or we would lose the home. Alex was fully aware of this situation, and I haven't received any further communication from him, let alone an apology for his negligence. Perhaps instead of contacting the seller's lawyer and realtors (and complaining that my lawyer wouldn't respond to his panicked messages) he could have focused on doing his own job. Alex was only ever interested in getting paid, and frankly failed at his own job. read more

I have recently been working with United Northern for a mortgage loan. I told Monique (the women handling my loan) that I was injuried on the job and was collecting workers comp. She was totally fine with it at the time. Fast forward a few months now finding what me and my wife thought was "our house" and investing money on a inspection. We close on this house in a few weeks when Monique calls me after asking for a ton a paperwork regarding workers comp and says they can't close the deal until I go back to work for at least 30 days. So my issue is why wasn't that the first thing she said to me months ago when I first told her I was on workers comp. She could of said that's fine but we won't be able to finish a deal until you go back to work, which would of been fine. At this point I already put money out for the inspection, plus $1000 and I'm going to lose the house that my wife and I fell in love with. This was going to be my first house so I had no clue. I called to complain to the supervisor named Christa and she was really nasty. BAD COMMUNICATION on United Northerns behalf! DONT USE THIS LENDER!!!!
