We were here on a girls weekend and decided to check out Untamed. They didn't have any availability right away so we made a resv for a few hours later and we were glad we came back. The ambiance with the modern ndoor space, outdoor vineyard views and huge Italian pizza oven were very welcoming. The owner came by to say hi and welcome us which is always a great touch! We ordered 2 pizzas (the South African banana one which is really interesting and the 3 meats one - both great) and had 2 tastings - chilled white and the red. The first visit was a weekend, it was busy, understood. Front kiosk says wait to be seated. We only wanted a tasting so asked if we could taste at the bar, no they don't do tastings at the bar? Was told the wait for a table would be 20-30 minutes, didn't want to wait, lots of wineries to visit so we decided to move on. Okay, that was on us, busy weekend...we get it. Tried again on a Tuesday, early afternoon. Parking lot practically empty, good sign. Walked in about the same time as the Amazon delivery guy, held the door for him as he had an armful of packages. There was two tables of guest, one table of two and one table of three ladies in the back playing mahjong. There was a wait person behind the bar that did not look up from whatever he was doing when we entered, he did look up as the delivery man brought him the packages and as the man left, the wait person still did not acknowledge us standing at the door. The wait person then walked right past us to close a tab of a customer on the outside patio. He did not acknowledge us or greet us or said he would be right back or sit anywhere. Ignored us. While we were visiting another wineries, one of the locals raved to us about this place - particularly about their unique pizzas! We had been looking for a place to grab food, so we gave it a shot. First off all, the property is nice and well groomed. There is a lovely indoor, air conditioned space but there's also a great side patio for when the weather is nice. So Untamed came up when trying to decide which (of the 300+) wineries to try when we were passing through. It's a beautiful building set in a lovely setting. Michael was very gracious and took great care of us. I went with the Proprietors Reserve tasting and my wife had a glass of the Grenache Noir. My first disappointment was with the price/value math for the tasting. I received 4 small pours (maybe 1.5oz each) for $42. That works out to be a $42 glass of wine. My wife's glass was $16 for a nice pour which is reasonable. The wine was good so I enjoyed the actual product. Second, I discovered their wine is made from California grapes. I was hoping to get to taste local grapes grown in the Hill Country. It was a very nice experience and the service, wine, and ambiance were all excellent. I just want to share for future visitors that if they are looking for local grapes produced into local wine, Untamed uses Cali grapes. And definitely buy by the glass for best value. read more

I came to Untamed for the first time, as our very first stop on our Houston Elite wine country trip. I was more than excited to finally get the weekend started and stretch my legs from the drive. A group of friends and I were going to be in Fredericksburg for a winery weekend, so some of us early birds decided to hit up a few places prior to getting into town. Untamed was our first stop for the weekend and it located right outside Fredericksburg in Johnson City. Driving up, I immediately loved the vibe of this place. The exterior was clean and modern and the grounds were immaculate. We came at the right time because we were able to sit inside or outside without a reservation. We chose outdoor seating to enjoy the beauty around us. Anoushka greeted us after we sat and explained the history of the place and helped us decide on what tastings to have. Tom was another person that helped us throughout as well. Both of them was full of knowledge and really had amazing personalities as well. They need a raise! I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I learned a lot coming here first and understanding the different types of wine. We decided on different flights. I went with the Reserve Flight which included a mix of a sparkling wine, a white, a rosé, and a red. It was a solid choice to try a few different things. They had a nice selection of different flights as well to appease your taste buds. What sets them apart from other local wineries is that they bring everything out at the same time and present it on a notecard describing each wine you get. The presentation and info alone was standout to me. I enjoyed everything I had. We had a little more time to kill and got a full pour of their sparkling rosé which was tasty as well. I also liked they had some real food on premises. They make artisanal pizzas in an Italian brick oven, my favorite! We wanted unique and we got that with the Meyer Lemon pizza. The prosciutto and lemon combo was delicious. We also ordered burrata which was also very good. There's so many quality wineries in town, but I have to say this was one of my favorites. Had a wonderful time at Untamed Wine Estates with a friend and my husband. We made a reservation online for a tasting, but was happy to know it also included a table were we could order lunch! We ordered the Meyer Lemon, South African Summer, and the Fancy Funghi. I really enjoyed the Meyer Lemon and the Fancy Funghi. The dough has just the right amount of softness and texture to make you want more. The South African Summer had bananas inside the pizza. It may be a stable, but I wasn't a fan. To drink, I opted for the reserve white. I loved how their placemat explains the wine making process for each wine instead of the flavors. It really helped me understand why I was getting certain notes. My favorite wines included the Sparkling Pinot Noir Rose, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Sangiovese. I am writing to express my disappointment regarding a recent visit to Untamed. As a wine enthusiast and frequent visitor to various wineries, We had high expectations for our experience at Untamed. Unfortunately, our visit did not meet these expectations, and I feel compelled to share my concerns with you. Upon arriving at your winery, We were initially impressed by the beautiful surroundings and the inviting ambiance. However, as the visit progressed, several issues arose that significantly impacted my overall experience. Firstly, the service provided by your staff was subpar. The employees seemed disinterested and lacked the knowledge and enthusiasm one would expect from a winery of your reputation. Their lack of attentiveness and failure to provide adequate information about the wines being served left me feeling neglected and undervalued as a guest. We were hoping to taste the Cabernet Franc rosé - and we were told it had already been pumped for the night - she did then bring an ounce in a wine glass for all 3 of us to try. But told us we could not all have a taste we had to share the ounce. Additionally, the lack of attention to detail was evident throughout our visit. The tasting room was empty. It was evident that the staff wanted to close early and finish up. We learned nothing about the wines. It was dropped off and the server left. We ordered 2 pizzas and the hummus plate - plus we each had a red tasting - we were out of the tasting room by 5:45 (with a 5:00pm reservation). We felt rushed and pushed out the door - as the gentleman locked the door on our way out. The name caught my attention when I drove past it initially, and when I was headed home, I decided to stop in. What a beautiful place and the hostess is so welcoming and friendly. This place is definitely a five-star spot but it is likely I would have given five stars for just the hostess.
