On a visit to Central Park in November 2009, my boyfriend and I wanted to ride in a hansom cab so we could rest our feet a while and see the park. Brent approached us a few times and we indicated that we were looking at the hansom cabs. The third time he gave a great spiel about why his tour is better and how he will give us a longer tour of more of the park. It sounded good so I said ok and we started the 30 min tour. The hansom cabs had signs on the side saying $35/half hour, so I figured the rate would be comparable. About five minutes later, Brent said he wanted us to know his rate was $80/half hour. Gulp. Lesson learned for not asking prior to getting in. I know I was really taken advantage of on the rate for this reason. What was even worse is that we only were in the pedicab for about 10 minutes. Brent's tour is really a walking tour of one small area of the park. I paid $80 for something that we could have done for free in the same amount of time. I can still imagine Brent laughing at the naive tourists that he is taking advantage of. I am posting this in hopes that someone reading it will be able to avoid having the same experience.

I'm a local, but there is a lot in CHinatown which which I am unfamiliar, and decided to do some exploring. The walk does take you down some side streets, point out some buildings, etc, that you may not have noticed in the past. The highlight for me was ending in a Buddhist temple. I have never been in one before, and would not have known I was permitted to enter this without the prompting of the tour guide. There were two "errors" on the tour. One the guide instructs a left-hand turn, but both the map and geography make it clear that you need to turn right. Second, there is point where you are guided through a metal gate into a community center. Either the gate is no longer open/used or it is not open every day (I did this on a Saturday), because access was locked when I got there. In terms of the audio itself, I found the background "ambiance" music and sound effects distracting. I prefer to hear the organic and real sounds of the street than having music trying to overpower them. Many of the streets of the tour are already a cacophony of sound unto themselves, and adding sounds in the audio to that is too much. Additionally, at a few points, the narrator was melodramatic to the point of hilarity. I certainly cannot use those points to recommend against the tour, again because it costs only $1. Go for it and see what you think.

The highlight was when you come to Bowery from a tunnel and all of a sudden some euro trance like music starts to play and you are in the middle of whizzing cars. How perfect! I emailed her to make a reservation for a Fri tour and she answered us back promptly. Tour booked. She picked us up on time and we visited several vineyards and wineries. She guided us through the tasting process making the experience more enjoyable. She had a nice rapport with the owners/staff at the various locations which allowed for us to take a personal tour with owners of their facilities. One of our favorites was Waters Crest. In between the tours Tammy brought us to lunch which helped invigorate us for the rest of the tour. At the end of the tour, Tammy drove us back to our accommodations. We bought several great bottles of wine and had a great time with Tammy. I was also recovering from ankle surgery while we took the tour and Tammy was so accommodating. She let us store my rental wheelchair in her vehicle while touring. She picked the best places to visit and luckily I didn't need it once. The crutches worked just fine. I spoke with Tammy a few times beforehand to confirm the additional elements that would make the day special and she came through for us! She greeted us at our hotel shortly before 11 am in the morning, and chauffeured us in a large Suburban and had cold water bottles for us before we even hit the first winery. At the first winery, she arranged to have both the white and red wine flights for us to sample and guided us through what we were drinking. At the conclusion of the first tasting, she took us on a walk though the vineyard where she had set up some furniture and some flowers for my girlfriend between two rows of grape vines. My girlfriend thought that we were intruding on someone else's space, so she was surprised she I popped the question right there! Tammy snapped a lot of pictures for us during the occasion and I was grateful that we had some privacy in the middle of the vineyard for the moment. I also learned that Tammy had dragged out her own furniture to the winery the day before to make the moment perfect. After the tasting at the first winery, we had a quiet lunch at a local Italian restaurant which was able to accommodate my girlfriend's gluten- and dairy-aversion. We proceeded to a couple of other great off-the-radar wineries to close out the day, and we bought a total of nine bottles of wine to take home by the time we were done. All in all, a great day, and a great way to tour the Northfork's wineries!

He gave a complete and wonderful tour of Brooklyn going from one side to the other pointing out places with photo opportunities and interesting facts. My only wish is that included more stops for pizza. That's kind of why I went on the tour. We did stop at two places and tried a nice thin crust pizza and another place that had Sicilian style. I would have liked at least one more pizza stop added. Just my opinion.
