I ordered the "Luca Brazi" sandwich which was excellent and took home half the sandwich for dinner tonight. *Important footnote...I NEVER have leftovers when I order dinner. I ALWAYS eat EVERYTHING!! Forty Second plays on the fact that the 42nd parallel runs straight through Kingston. In fact, there's even a marker celebrating this off of Landing Road, a short distance from Bay Farm. The owners of Forty Second Brew Co. have turned a run-down old restaurant space that had seen better days into a cool space of exposed brick, rough hewn boards, and delicious IPAs. If you're lucky, you'll be there when one of the patrons kicks a keg so you can see how they celebrate such milestones and commemorate them on social media. Update: By the time I made it there for my second visit within two weeks I got recognized for kicking a keg of their Three Sheets To the Wind IPA (6.9 ABV), I had the privilege of joining a winning trivia team, and celebrated the birthday of a new friend. I cna share that after all was said and done that say this place was my father-in-law's favorite Plymouth brewery. He liked the set up. He liked the guy behind the bar. He liked the aesthetic. He liked their beer. I liked the off the beaten path location (look closely or you will miss the sign.) I liked the chalkboard wall which my 3 year old really enjoyed and the guy was super nice. Heads up: you have to go down a flight of stairs to get into the brewery. It's in a basement I would say. What's cool about this- exposed stone walls. 2. It's decorated in vibrant colors following their sour theme. But it feels like a college kid dorm room. I would suggest to spruce it buy some better frames for the art work. The graffiti is oddly placed (and I am a graffiti lover) but things are mish mashed here. Their beer label art blown up to poster size the color is off like a bad printer made the prints. 3. The guys working the counter give an off putting vibe. I did start talking to them (its a father/son duo) and they warmed up a little and send me on my way with a few beer labels for an art project I am working on. 4. The beer- I like sours. I did not like any of these sours. They were not enjoyable to drink. Something was a little off in each one and the sour flavor is just to tart or strong. 5. Their merch is their label art on T's. They DID have one porter that was only served at the lower bar, which was closed. Really? 8 IPAs upstairs and you choose to put the porter downstairs? Whatever. No ambers, no reds. No N/A sodas or other drinks except Treehouse products which included a few seltzers. Food is set up in out buildings off the patio. Pizza was by the slice only and is really good if you like New Haven style. My wife thought it tasted like Tombstone so to each their own on that. They also had lobstah rolls available with their "treehouse style" butter dip that had a spicy flavor. No other food except bags of kettle chips. Outdoor seating is great if the weather cooperates. Canopies provide some shade. Plenty of seating indoors especially when the patio gets full. Overall we found the location and setting to be stellar, the food to be limited, and the beer variety anemic. Still worth a stop if in the area. Parking is very limited but they have a remote lot with a shuttle bus.
