I chose this place because, not only has this company been around for many years and I used to use them before the other newer company opened up business, but because it's close to home. Customer service at the counter is good. Once helped by a woman and the first time by a man. Their names I can't remember. Unfortunately, they are not always in the office when one goes there during business hours. Yesterday, I arrived at around 1:30-2:00 and the doors were closed. Perhaps they took a break, but there wasn't any signage nor store hours listed. I needed to drop off something in my storage unit and there was a red car running with a person inside. They were not parked in the stall but just to the side of the building in the areas where the office is located. I wasn't sure if it was personnel taking a break or a random person. I decided to leave as I did not have any intention of going into an empty warehouse when no one was in the office. If the person in the red car worked there, they did not mention they were taking a break. This was not the first time this happens. My rate was also increased. I was expecting this as it's in the fine print. Every storage unit facility brings you in with a teaser rate and then bumps up the price. So I always pay several months upfront. What I did not expect was a big increase from about $62 to $89. For a 5x5 unit that is a lot, especially when the security system in place doesn't feel safe and the office is closed when it should be opened. They have cameras in the office, but what good is that if they are not being monitored. Regarding security, I won't mention where they can improve as I do not want to publicly say what the flaws are until I move my items out. Yes, I decided to move my items to a different facility after the rate was increased and after not finding anyone in the office and not feeling safe. Maintenance at the facility can also be improved. Some areas I've noticed do not get swept, at least on my floor. The times I've gone I have found the same dead bug or random debris. Lets see how today's visit goes.

Have been with Satellite Self Storage in Middletown NJ for over 15 years. Being in real estate, I…read morehave referred many clients also. Past 4 years a situation has been in progress and getting worse by the day. When Andrea was manager the place was run fantastic! But they transferred her to their Ocean storage place.(I hear she just resigned-hmmm, cant imagine why) About the same time Middletown began to have problems. The owner has allowed a window treatment company, whose name I will not mention, to utilize the first building, to the point of taking it over. They have many units, they work on building valances, windows whatever using electric saws, sawdust all over the place, noise, scraping of the flooring bringing large items in and out, actually using the storage sheds as work rooms, plugged into the building's electric. It has become a total mess in this building. Now they have a trailer workstation parked there, usually a van and two large SUVs or their company truck. You cant get to the lift to load and unload your items as there is no parking area left. I personally have three storage units and it has pissed me off that when I complained they said the owner has given them permission to do this. Seriously! Its not like there are a lot of empty storage units so this extra business can compensate for loss of income. You cant find a unit in there, usually need to be on a waiting list. The owner should redirect his priorities. The buildings used to be painted regularly, never had broken elevators, the floors were always sparkling, the temperature controlled units were always kept at good temps. Now, in summer they are too hot and in winter, too cool. The floors have not been painted in years and overall, it looks like a declining business. The question I have is how can the township permit a working business to exist in a storage unit facility? We have a list of instructions and items which we can not have in our units. But it is ok to have a workshop in here, use electric power tools, make noise, spew sawdust all over which is carried up the stairs and on the elevators into people's units as they walk thru it? I have stopped referring my clients as I am embarrassed to do so. If the situation does not change, I will start looking for three or four units with a new company. I think the owner has gotten too greedy.
