My first level 1 class was overall good experience. It is very peaceful but also energetic. You will get very nice stretch. First class you will be introduced to the process, poses and how to control the hammock. Things that I wish were a bit different: instructor should be focused and slower with a people that are first time there, specially with the way how you adjust the hammock and control it. I feel, as English is not my first language and being first time there, I would have to figure out most of the things naturally, on my own, without instructor correcting me. After few classes with different teachers, if you are beginner, definitely look for a classes with Mary! She will make you more confident, guide you properly trough every pose and give amazing advices. Her way definitely changed my picture about this studio in a more positive way. She approached to us with amazing background knowledge but also understanding what you would need as an beginner. I hope that she will teach more classes in the afternoon as well, so I can fit it with my work schedule, but for now will definitely attend her Sunday classes. read more

What a unique and fun outlet for physical fitness! I checked this spot out due to the proximity of it to my apartment and found it great to walk to on the weekends. The instructors were really friendly and despite feeling super awkward trying to get into the apparatus and not flop around like a fish, they made the class and movements really approachable. I went to my first class today and it was a Level 1 Aerial Yoga class taught by Renee who was subbing for someone else. She was amazing!! She made it really easy and clear to follow along with her and helped when needed. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has the chance to go even if you don't live in the area-coming from west LA it is worth the drive!! I can't wait to try out some of the other classes! Love this place!!! I've been doing regular yoga for about a year or two now and for me I've found it very therapeutic, emotionally as well as physically. I especially love getting a good stretch and how good and less stressed out I feel afterward! This, however, was a totally new experience! When my usual yoga teacher's class was canceled for the next session, I was looking for another yoga class to take its place. I tried some other yoga places that I just didn't like and saw this on Groupon, it seemed totally different and unique so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! It was so much fun! Although, I was a little put off by the first class. It takes awhile to get acclimated to the hammock (and really trust that it will be there to support you! - yes that's also very therapeutic for this trust-issue girl!) and it also takes time to get acclimated to hanging upside down. The first class, oh the pain! It hurt a lot! And I always see newbies talking about this or wincing and I feel their pain! It was very uncomfortable (and even a bit painful the first couple times) but after one or two classes, it's totally fine and very relaxing. (I really love that decompression of my spine and it really helps my sinus issues!) You just need to break up some of that tissue you're not used to leaning on! Hang in there! (Yes, Pun intended!) I try to come at least once a week (for about 2 months now) and I wish I could go even more often but it's quite far away from me; all the way at the other end of the valley. I do love it though and I really enjoy it and it's unique challenges. The staff are also all great and very supportive. I love Beckett's class but Kimberly is equally kind! They all make it look so easy but are always so helpful if/when you're struggling with a pose! Yay! However, I especially love when we have a little fun and do some different supported moves with the hammock! My favorite, the supported plow pose! But they're all fun and great and I do love how the concentration on the moves really allows me to relax my mind from all my worries and cares! Woo hoo! The search for an Ariel Yoga or Ariel Arts Studio felt endless and painful. Thanks to my friends post on Instagram recently I found out about UP Flying Yoga. On I went to google UFY and it led me to their Groupon. I bought it right away. Think of this studio like a little gem. The quality of the classes are wonderful since the studio can accommodate only so many people. It's a state of the art set up, technicians from Cirque De Soleil rigged up the interior and it can hold thousands of pounds. The teachers are unbelievable and I've only had fun and challenging classes. I originally was only interested in the Ariel yoga but then tried out an Intro To Ariel Arts, mistaking it for intro to Ariel yoga. It was a great "mistake" such a fun class. You know those Ariel artists that do cool tricks and posses? That is the class to learn it. Fitness wise I don't really consider myself fit and actually my lower body is limited due to my car accident. It's shockingly not too demanding however with anything in life it helps if you've got a good foundation of strength and flexibility. Also just trust your body and try hard. Parking: is available on the street and it's plentiful just be careful crossing Ventura because it's very busy. After 6pm you can park in the back but after 8 parking is free at the meters. read more

The day of the class and just one hour before the class begins i received a text saying I have been move from the waiting list and I am now registered in the class. Despite the very short notice (since the studio is 30 min driving distance ) I decided to go because I have been wanting to get into aerial yoga for the longest time. When I got there the studio was closed , I called them multiple times but no ones answered the phone and left couple clove mails with describing the situation . I have very mixed feelings about Up Flying Yoga. The studio is lovely and the instructors are wonderful. However, it falls short in so many other areas. PROS: The studio appearance is lovely The instructors (Especially Lena & Jordan) are AMAZING! Various apparatuses available (although not all are used during 'mixed apparatus' class) CONS: classes are only 60 minutes yet the same price (or higher) than 90 min classes at other aerial studios 4 of the last 7 classes I've booked have been canceled by the studio I really wanted Up Flying to be my go-to since I live so close and I love the instructors but when I schedule my classes I schedule my week around it and I just can't back a studio that is going to cancel classes last minute. Attended Yoga Level 1 last night and it was a nice intimate class with only one other student. Good personalized lesson with most of the class taking place in the ropes. They say you need socks on their website but that wasn't strictly enforced and I don't really see why you would need them. Love that the studio has enough ropes for each student to have one! It was a little hard to focus and get centered during class - the studio shares a wall with a noisy restaurant kitchen and then there was someone walking on the roof above us. No fault of the studio itself just the location. Found metered parking on the street out front, bummer that you can't use the lot behind the studio. Don't love that the lockers are outside in the alleyway - just kept my purse in the studio since there were only two of us in class. Overall the quality of the class was great and the personal ropes were a plus compared to other aerial studios! read more

Cam here for the first time last night and had the best experience. I've never done aerial yoga in my life and I was a bit anxious before going because of that, but right when I walked it in I felt pretty comfortable and the ambiance was great. I was with a group of about 7 girls including 2 other newbies so I wasn't alone. The instructor was wonderful and had a great vibe. I did things on that first class that I didn't even know I could do and I felt great afterwards. Ruth is a wonderful instructor and her ability to guide a class of newcomers and returning members does not go unnoticed. She does a great job making everyone feel comfortable, confident, and will challenge you to dig deeper in your stretch, hold your pose a bit longer, or reach just a bit further. The silk hammocks are stretchy and are a whole 9 feet wide! They use the same hooks mountain climbers use and the support is that of 1000 lbs (give or take? I forget, but I know it'll hold your weight x4). Trust your arms for strength and support and you'll be fine. I've taken yoga before, but never have I felt a stretch quite like this. I have limited experience in yoga but have always been athletic/a gym rat. My sister signed us up for Aerial Yoga this Tuesday, but we were unable to make it to the 7pm class last minute & showed up at 8 in hopes of rescheduling. Didn't get the name of the instructor that night but she was with Beckett, and was not too nice about the whole situation. It was our first time there and it was uncomfortable to make it so difficult to reschedule. We apologized but she just kept making it seem like it was such a big deal. After talking to Beckett (who was super nice btw) she said there was space in the class for the next day. Wednesday aerial yoga class was definitely an interesting experience! A workout like none other & it was truly a wonderful experience to try at least once. It does take some time to adjust to the unfamiliar poses, but I'm sure it will be smoother the 2nd time around. I was doing poses I didn't think i'd be able to do by the first night. My only problem is justifying the price of each class, especially if you would like to become a regular. But since the class size is pretty small, I guess it makes sense. (We had about 7-8 people in class.) Parking was tricky- we were told we could park inside the tiny parking lot but ended up taking a good 10 mins reversing out of it by the end of the night. Definitely park on the street! Not sure if I would become a regular here, but I would definitely suggest trying this place out if you are looking for a fun workout/experience. I just took my first class and will definitely be back. I take regular Vinyasa yoga a few times a week and was excited to try something new and different. I took the level 1 beginners class. While it was a bit scary at first, it was also incredibly peaceful. I felt weightless in the opening meditation and by the end of class, I was doing a flip to get off of the hammock. Can't wait to build more confidence and eventually try some higher level classes. The instructors were fantastic! I have been coming to this studio since October of last year and i love how comfortable the instructors make you feel as you improve throughout your aerial journey. They give step by step guidance and show the correct form to help with injury prevention. I have had the opportunity to try multiple apparatuses. HELLO!!! This class is so much fun I can't wait to go back. If you like yoga and want to try something new, this is the place to go. So I've been on a fitness kick but I wanted to try different types of workouts so I can find something I can stick to because "self motivation" is not a trait of mine. I've already had years of experience with yoga and am pretty flexible. The hammocks take the stretching into a whole new level. First off, I got a groupon for 4 classes (which I think are still available). I have only taken the Level 1 class so far to get my feet wet. I recommend this class for beginners, especially for those who are not familiar with yoga poses. The instructors are great, there is one who does the poses and another who makes sure you are positioned correctly in the hammock. The level 1 class is not hard but it isn't easy either. My next class will be the dance which I am looking forward to because you get to learn more tricks. The hammocks are fit for anyone! They are wide enough for a 9 foot person to lay in comfortably so it suits all sizes! I suggest that you wear form fitting capri or long pants and a short sleeved or long sleeved shirt. When you are hanging in certain poses it can be an uncomfortable rubbing that my loose, aging skin could not handle. I made the mistake of wearing a tank top and my jiggly arms were suffocating in some poses. For comfort purposes, cover up just in case. But if you can handle it, by all means do so! Also, wear grip socks or you will have to go barefoot and if you are a germaphobe the thought of other people's feet in those hammocks will drive you nuts (not that I would know....or would I???) Don't be nervous, there are a lot of first timers in the class and one lady convinced her husband to attend. Obviously he was the least flexible but he loved it! Oh and the BEST part???? The meditation nap you get to take at the end. Laying in a hammock like a cocoon with only the sound of the instructors voice was enough to beg them not to make me leave. I have been wanting to try aerial yoga, so when I saw the Groupon deal, I was all over it. FYI: You have to email your Groupon voucher number to get credited so that you can sign up for a class. They need to prep an apparatus for you, so their website does ask you sign up ahead of time. Once you show up, sign the waiver, let all the fun begin! I kept smiling as it was such a fun and liberating experience to be cocooned and suspended in the air. It can be confusing as there are a lot of instructions to follow. You may not always see what is going on as you can be totally encased in the hanging fabric and/or spinning/swaying gently. However, there is no need to worry! The teacher (Kimberely) and her trusty assistant are there to help! They are so warm, patient, and friendly.I loved every minute of my first aerial yoga class. The website recommends that you wear something comfortable and that covers your arms and knees as well as socks. I don't think socks are necessary, but it is better to wear a t-shirt or long-sleeve shirt to protect your armpits from getting chafed. read more

I've had only 3 classes here and I'm super hooked! The teacher, Kimberly is so very sweet, helpful, patient and well explained. She also has an assistant who helps you out, if you get in a jam. If your a first timer like me, she is your saving Grace. I'd say, in order to do the Aerial Hammock class, you'd have to have a bit of strength behind you. Otherwise, prepare to laugh at yourself, then try again! The Aerial Yoga is great even for a beginner Yogi. If you don't mind a good stretch, your spine will also thank you for it! No matter what your skill level is, this place is so much FUN with a capital F! It reminds me of being a kid in the playground all over again to be able to just swing and hang like that! Really really love this place because of their small classes and extra help during class (teacher in a hammock + an assistant who walks around and helps people, does poses on the floor). It made me feel much better about trusting this process given my many previous injuries and injury-prone back. I should note that I am not a yoga fan and I still really loved this workout. I wanted to do something like yoga because I am eager to stretch and increase flexibility as a way of making my other workouts better and less likely to injure me. But a) I don't have a lot of patience for too much chanting and namaste-ing b) I HATE being hot, which means even non-hot yoga is too warm for me and makes me uncomfortable. But UFY makes the workout SO fun that I forget I'm doing yoga. Afterward I felt so great that it was like leaving a spa after a massage. The studio is cool -- they recommend long pants and shirts with sleeves because otherwise the hammock will burn a bit -- but you will still be very sweaty, tired and sore in a good way. The teachers I've been to so far are terrific. I started with a couple private lessons so that I would feel comfortable when I went to a class and really sure about how not to accommodate my back issues. Kimberly was great. So encouraging, upbeat and helpful. I don't regret doing those lessons, but after I went to Ruth's class, I realize that I wouldn't have needed them. Ruth is awesome and helped the first timers through class almost as much as I'd gotten via privates. Ruth also asked me to stay after class so that she could help me work through a pose that was giving me trouble. First she tried out a few different things herself in the hammock to see what might help me, found a workaround she thought I might like and had me try it several times to see how it worked for me. Then she showed me what to do so that if I'm in another class, I can adjust the hammock-gathering process on my own. This was all on her own time, after class -- such a caring, helpful teacher who goes above and beyond to make sure you are getting everything you can out of her classes. Can't tell you how awesome she is. Also been to Chelsea's classes and she is very nice and helpful as well. I understand others' concerns about smelly hammocks, but I haven't had a problem with them. In all, this is so much fun. I felt like a kid and being in the hammock and weightless let me get so much more out of these stretches than I would have gotten on the ground. At the end, relaxing wrapped up in your hammock is so restful that I would have even agreed to chant or namaste (but didn't have to. Just one OHM at the beginning.) :-) read more

i took the foll. classes tonight w/ kim: 7:15 up aerial yoga (had 6 ppl including the instructor) & 8:30 aerial hammock tricks (had 7 ppl including the instructor) PROS: -kim was friendly, patient, & just awesome. -many crash mats for safety -spacious one-floor studio w/ 10+ hammocks -super fun; you'll learn so many things in such a short time -they allow video footage & photos after class :) CONS: -usually card only. if you want to pay w/ cash, you have to call in advance, as space's limited. -the studio was a bit hard to fit if you're not paying attn; their sign's too small, it should be bigger (they're located behind the bollywood cafe' indian restaurant, across from sushi dan in studio city) -metered/street parking (for street, you can either park on arch dr. or fruitland dr; watch for signs) -so when i came, there was an elderly asian man who was takin a lunch break & singing his ass off lol i'm all all about expressing yourself & singing, as i love to sing, but this guy was being way too loud & inconsiderate of ppl around him. not to mention, he was so out of tune, it was painful for me to hear OVERALL REVIEW: i had so much fun (even though i'm outta shape since i've been ill since feb)! i'll definitely come back :) read more

Fantastic! Unlike any other yoga class you've experienced. If you have a sense of adventure and love movement you have to try up flying yoga. After our first class my girlfriend and I couldn't wait to go back. After posting pictures (yup they took pictures of us because time allowed) all our friends want to come too. We may have to start a private class! The instruction is amazing and easy to follow. For classes with 5 or more there is an assistant to help and guide. We did at least 5 tricks in our first class! Up Flying Yoga was a really fun yoga experience! My friend booked a private party for 7 of us on a Sunday afternoon. I think it ended up being $27 or $28 each. It was really nice to be able to do a group of us together that all knew each other so we could feel free to talk in class and request specific poses/stretches. I liked that so many of the poses were similar to a normal yoga class. The hammocks added a fun element and allowed us to move through poses we already knew from yoga with a new fun element. The class flew by and it had already been an hour before I knew it. The studio was clean and we had a really good amount of space to move around, no one ran into each other. I wish it had been easier to take pictures at the end. The instructor allowed us to play around for a bit after class and we were able to take pictures. But the lighting was horrible and it was really difficult to get a good shot. They offered a class package deal at the end, a nice touch for anyone that wanted to continue taking classes. I think the once was enough for me but I'd consider doing a party again in the future with a group of friends, it was really nice to have the place to ourselves. The BEST workout ever. I always had a hard time getting into Yoga as I am into extreme Cardio classes (i.e. Barry's Bootcamp) but this class was right up my alley! You feel so relaxed and centered after this class. The lifting you do is also great for your abs and upper body. I want to do this class 24/7!!! Also, I came into this class with a weird knot in my neck but when class was finished my neck felt great and the knot was gone! Come take this class, you won't regret it! Note: Class is a bit difficult to find. The class is located behind a restaurant. Come early to find parking and give yourself enough time to get settled. The teacher Kimberly is AH-MAZING. The reason for my 5-star rating is simple: there's plenty of classes to choose from, the instructors are GREAT, it's SO much fun, and it makes me feel WONDERFUL!! I'll admit, I do have a favorite - Ashley's Sunday morning Yoga Level 1 class. Although it's a Level 1 class, it still makes me work super hard. I definitely feel it the next day. The classes are easy to sign-up for, there's plenty of days/times to choose from to make it fit YOUR schedule, and they even have an app for your phone! I highly recommend this place as something to try. I just started going this year, and I loved it from day 1. I've been going to Up Flying Yoga for almost a year now and it is keeping me in great shape. The aerial yoga classes are amazing for improving your strength as well as your flexibility. Even though the yoga hammock supports your poses, this doesn't make it easier - it makes it challenging in new ways. I have also been taking the aerial hammock performance classes and they are a fabulous workout and also amazingly fun.
