Unfortunately on the Island there are very few options so I give this business a 3 star for being in existence. Unfortunately they are not available for communication. They will never pick up the phone and the laundry turn around is extra long.something that should take a few hours turns into days. read more

I sent a Marimekko comforter out to get dry cleaned and they washed it and ruined it. It took six phone calls and six weeks to eventually get to talk to the manager Sam. He was at first not helpful but later called and offered to replace the comforter. Edit: Sam the manager later recanted his offer to replace the comforter claiming that he should only have to pay what the ruined comforter is worth since it was not brand new. He was only willing to pay anything if i gave him a copy of the receipt for the new one and THEN he would let me know how much he would be willing to pay for it. And he would be keeping the old one since he claimed it would now be his because he bought it. read more

Years ago I needed a blouse dry cleaned when we were here. We saw a sign for Up-To-Date Cleaners, but when we followed it we found ourselves at the cleaning plant. This was before Yelp so we didn't know about the Lihue location. I don't remember what I did about the spot. A few days ago as we were driving to Poipu we saw this little storefront on the opposite corner. Last night Alan was trying to deal w/ a drawstring on his pants that had been pulled into the channel. I tried also to pull it out w/o success. I suggested we check w/ the cleaners today to see if they could fix it. We parked in front. Alan walked in and walked out in less than 5 minutes. I assumed they couldn't fix it, but I was wrong. They did and they didn't charge him for it. Very nice service. I can't speak to the experience of the previous reviewers, but that was ours. read more

I'm a salesman new to Kauai and I work in the poipu area. I need dry cleaning for my work clothes and will usually have a $2-300 a month dry cleaning bill ( from maui, used to Hawaii prices ). I understand the environmental restrictions make it expensive to operate a dry cleaning service in Hawaii, so I understand and tolerate the overpriced cost of things. What I will not tolerate is an unreliable service in regards to timing. Only the second time I've used this service ( the only one on this part of the island ) and they are a week late with having my clothes ready. There was no mention of a discount or anything but excuses, there is no excuse for this if you ask me. When I asked the guys at work where to go, my boss said that the same thing happened to him and a co-worker said that they even lost some of his clothes. They suggested I take my business to lihue even though its a 20 minute drive. Boo read more

This is the only dry cleaners on Kauai and is located in Koloa, right past the Koloa Elementary School. It's easy to find, turn onto Paanau, follow it to Hikina on the left. Go to the end of Hikina and you'll find the dry cleaner. They're expensive, it cost $40.00 to dry clean and press a suit, fancy shirt and a tie. You go into the doors on the far left corner of the building. You'll see a counter, press a button located on the right side of the counter and someone will show up to take your order. There was no smile, no casual conversation, just the question of what you wanted. The clerk (?) filled out an order form and consulted a computer for the prices. She didn't tell me, and there's no signage to indicate their prices. When I asked how long it would take, she said a week (7) days, and for me to call them. Enough said. read more

We turned in four suits (for a wedding) to be pressed and cleaned. I had each suit labeled on the hanger. When my Mom picked the suits up, they actually took the time and effort to peel each name label off each hanger. Why? Why would they need to peel the labels off of a hanger to clean and press our suits. Now we don't know which suit belongs to which groomsmen. Also they charged us TWICE for the same service. We have to go back on Monday to dispute the extra charges. I'd give them less than a star if I could. Too bad we live on Kauai and we're basically stuck with them! read more

I travel for business on a regular basis and have used Dry Cleaners all over the country. NEVER EVER have I experienced such a complete lack of service or been ripped off to this degree!!! I brought in a plain little summer dress while visiting my time share and they charged me $21.00, they told me it would be ready 6 days later!! (FYI, they advertise same day service). When I went to go pick it up I saw another order hanging with a long sleeve dress and a much more detailed fabric. The price tag was $10.83!!! I asked why mine cost so much more and the attendant replied "our pricing is just our pricing". REALLY?? Do the service providers in California double their fees when people from Kauai visit us?? If there were no stars that would be too good for this business. I'm all about supporting local but I'm done with this one. They ruined a very expensive dress last time but since they are the only cleaners, I took a few more in with my husbands suit jacket. They promised the jacket would be ready before he had to leave island. But as others have said, it of course wasn't. It took 10 days! By then I had to buy him one to use. And because of the damage they did before, this time I took my dresses out of bag before leaving to check them. They look Horrible! They were NOT cleaned. They're wrinkled! I can't wear them like this. $144 for NOTHING but damaged dirty clothing. Clerk giggled when I mentioned I had to buy a new jacket for my husband. And said the dresses wouldn't look any better if they were cleaned again. These are expensive DVF dresses. Don't use these people! It's the worst experience you'll ever have!! read more

Several weeks ago, I took three pairs of pants and a new (worn 5 times) blue blazer to Up to Date cleaners for cleaning. I returned a week later to find that, not only had my pants not been cleaned, but the blue blazer had "tire tracks" (the fabric was altered) on the right and left front panels as well as a grossly distorted button hole. It looked as though the items had been caught in a mechanical device. After negotiations with both the operations crew and the general manager, not only are they unable to fix the blue blazer, but they are also unwilling to accept responsibility for it's destruction. The general manager offered me 1) some cash (half the value of the blazer) and a lunch or 2) cleaning services in the amount of the full value of the blazer. Neither solution would provide me with a defect-free blazer, and so I declined both offers. Yes, they tried, but fell far short of providing this customer with a defect-free blazer, like the one I brought to them for cleaning. Being the only dry cleaning establishment on the south side of Kauai, one has little choice of dry cleaners. Also, after one signs the mandatory "hold harmless" document, one has little recourse. I add my experience to the other dissatisfied customers writing in this forum. As a full-time resident of Kauai, I won't be returning to Up To Date cleaners for any services......ever. read more

If there was 0 stars I would choose that!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!!!! I took my wedding dress to them to get cleaned. I went back to pick it up on the date they promised me and it was not ready yet, they gave me a new date a week later to try back. I then went the 2nd time to pick up my wedding dress and opened my dress bag to take a look. The lady was acting very strange as I was opening it. I examined my dress that was still filthy!!!! Did not look any different than when I dropped it off. Until I saw 2 holes in my wedding dress!!!! I pointed them out to the lady and all she had to say was "you must have made those." They were BURN MARKS!!!! I now have holes in my wedding dress!! I then spoke on the phone to her manager and she did not apologize once. She said they tried to clean it and she didn't know how the holes got there. Then they tried to charge me almost $200 for my dress. Yes, let me pay you $200 to put holes in my dress that is still dirty!!! I have never been so mad!!! DO NOT EVER USE THEM!!! read more

DO NOT USE THIS CLEANERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I brought them three items. A black/white cocktail dress, my husbands new Tommy Bahama silk shirt and a wool designer business dress I wear when on the mainland. All three garments were destroyed. Completely destroyed and they take ZERO responsibility. They are rude, the service is disgustingly poor, they have horrible attitutude towards the customer and barely speak English. My dress was all discolored and torn and statined, my husbands shirt was shredded down his back and the wool dress was shrunk inches shorter than the lining. GM told us too bad..that is why we always have to sign a release. They also wanted me to to pay for destroying my dress. Can you believe this? I cannot and we plan to report them to BBB and more. Don't understand how they are still in business. read more

I tried to get my suit cleaned here. I called to confirm they can do 24 hour turn around. They said no problem then asked if I was from hawaii I said no. This may be the worst laundry dry cleaner in the world. For many years it has been a mainstay of the south shore. This company is a true tribute to a monopoly. They have no competition and can charge outrageous prices as they please. The help many times are illiterate and cannot help you at all. The management is secluded and not available to speak with routinely. Have never had a good experience, but it is the only game in town. read more

Do NOT use this cleaners!!!! My husband's favorite aloha shirt came home with a three-corner tear under the arm. He didn't mention anything, thinking that this had happened at the cleaners but just let it go. But when our expensive silk king-size quilt came back with two three-corner tears, though only a year old and purchased at Pottery Barn, we did go to the cleaners to ask them to make good on it. Their general manager, Sam Liu, asked us to come in to meet with him. When we did he was very ingratiating but did not want to take any responsibility for the damage. In the end, he sent us a letter stating that fibers of the quilt were too old and he would take no responsibility whatsoever for the damage done. We talked with a friend about this and discovered that they had also had a valuable quilt torn when sent to this cleaners. Do not bring anything personal or valuable to this cleaners!! read more
