I've driven by here hundreds of times and the sign next to the road has never changed. You cannot see the restaurant from the road because it sits up so much higher. On this day, we were heading to Charles Deam Wilderness to do some backpacking and wanted a nice meal before we hit the road. This was it, and so much more than we were expecting. A full bar for one! And, since it was Sunday morning we could get breakfast or lunch. My friend got the biscuits and gravy and I opted for the cheeseburger and fries. Service was good, scenic view was good, its location and view is nice (right in a ridge near Bloomington), and their food is fine. We definitely enjoyed our outing here. My step mom led me astray saying that their Bloody Mary's are out of this world, but I only found it to be mediocre. It just had some very basic celery sticks and an olive or two, and it just didn't seem to be a good flavor. I personally wanted it spicier (and I rarely ever want anything spicier) and yet my step mom wanted it less spicy so we decided to not ask for any adjustments and leave it alone. We came for breakfast food and everyone left satisfied. Only go here if you are willing to wait 2 hours for your appetizer. Our waiter was not awake, clearly has not showered in days and was wearing extremely dirty clothes. He then completely forgot our existence. Out of concern of our blood sugar level and the cleanness of the food, our party have to leave. This experience has happened more than once. We visited for dinner on a Sunday evening. It wasn't very busy but they had a decent amount of guests. We were seated promptly outside on the patio as requested. Another group was seated next to us about 5 minutes after we were seated. They were greeted and received their waters before we were acknowledged by our server. Our server finally came and took our order. Drinks took awhile to get. Once we got those my daughter who is 4 took a drink of her lemonade and said, "Mommy this is disgusting." I tried it and yes it was disgusting. I asked the server if she could get something else. He apologized and promptly returned with a replacement beverage for her. We received our food pretty quickly. I ordered the Veggie Burger Wrap. I asked the server if it was supposed to come with a sauce because I thought it had mentioned some sort of aioli on the menu. He said he wasn't sure but he would check. He returned with the chipotle aioli which was delicious. Food was good, service was spotty. We asked for a couple to go boxes. I specifically asked for a small to go cup for my aioli which I never received. I should have just taken the ramekin after all of my troubles! Scenic View is one of our favorite restaurants in Bloomington. The View Burger is great. The pretzel bun and chipotle sauce make it. The seasoning on the fries is also really good. We recently got carry-out, and when I picked it up I noticed they had expanded the patio. They've added a roof and had space heaters. I look forward to coming back soon this spring and enjoying the beautiful view. read more

Neat setting with indoor and outdoor seating. Overlooks Lake Monroe, but it's not like you can see a LOT of water because of the woodlands around it. Gotta admit, the service is quite slow today though. It was at least 10 minutes before the waitress came to our table and that long again before getting anything to drink. (About to lose a star). My wife really liked her French dip, and the fish tacos were a nice combo of sweet and spicy with the slaw and Aioli sauce. Only negative would be the service today, but again, they may be short-staffed with the back-to-school transition. read more

This place is a great spot that is definately worthy of it's name! They have a great patio that overlooks lake Monroe, and food to match. We started off with a bacon bloody Mary, which while interesting failed to excite my tastebuds. My friend ordered fried pickles, which were very good, and unique in the sense they were not as "pickly" as all the other fried pickles I've had. I started my meal with the orange spinach salad with orange vinagrette. This was good, but nothing sensational. My main meal was the Hawaiian burger, which was fantastic! The burger had great flavor, and the pineapple and bacon went very well with the soft pretzel bun. The sweet relish on the and cilantro mayo took the place of my usual ketchup and mustard, and created a symphony of flavor in my mouth. Bottom line is this is an amazing spot for a date, the food is good and atmosphere amazing for Bloomington. It is a little pricey, but worth it imo. read more

Pretty traditional upper end bar food. I had the Reuben which as ok and the $2 up charge for sweet potato fries. My girlfriend had the View burger which was ok with fries. Served on a pretzel bun was a nice surprise. The view of Monroe Lake is ok but it is further away than we anticipated. Where I sat I had to sit up very straight to be able to actually see the water and she could just sit normally to see it. The waiter was very good and attentive. The drinks were generous for the mixed drink I had at $7 but my girl friend's wine was a little expensive at $11/glass. All in all it was nice to be out of downtown with a slight view. read more

This restaurant has great potential. First off, it's called Scenic View, but they allow big trucks and cars with kayaks to park in front of the main view of Lake Monroe. Why!? It's disappointing... We called ahead as we were driving from Indianapolis down to Bloomington and they said they do not take reservations for parties less than 8. Even for a party of 5 who is driving for an hour....We still decided to go, but we're disappointed at a 30 minute wait and then put at a table in the corner with no view. We have been here a few times and have mixed experiences which is why gave 3 stars. Today, I think it was mainly our server (Hannah) as she had no personality and was not helpful at all. She acted like our requests were annoying (pulp free orange juice for mimosas and actual lavender in the lavender lemonade). She also told my sister that she was going to charge her full price for a virgin drink because that's what they always do -- makes zero sense. Thankfully the manager had some common sense. Overall, drinks were great, food was good and service was less than mediocre. We will go back again because it's a great place for fellowship on a weekend morning, but don't have too high of expectations of service or the view. read more
