This is my go to spot to get a fresh one. I made the pilgrimage back in college and have renewed my faith in this good barbershop. Upper Cuts are the same people that own the upscale Shaving Grace Barbershops in Malvern and soon to be in Doylestown. The best part about Upper Cuts is that you get the same shape up for only $15 compared to the $35 at Shaving Grace. I have received cuts from 3 different barbers there and prefer to go on Wednesdays when the owner is there. They still do hot foam straight edge shaving on the back of your neck and the chairs appear to be from the 1960's. A little side note on real barbershops compared to Supercuts, Hair Cuttery, etc. When I lived in Ardmore I frequented the Hair Cuttery on Lancaster Ave. One lucky day I was get my trim on (1 clip faded up with finger length on top) from a woman who had yet mastered the English language. She was using a clip on top and as you can imagine the clip fell off and she clipped me. Almost down to the skin. She shouted out "You no pay, You no pay" but the damage was done. I was doomed to spend the next 2 months growing out an Uncle Fester cut. Never again would I frequent such an establishment. The best. I'm about as OCD as one can get about their hair. I hate when you're in and out of a barber shop in 15 mins and the barber zips through your hair once and leaves your head looking like it got cut with a weed whacker. I used to get a haircut, pay then go home and clean it up myself with some trimmers...that bad. Granted, my hair is about as thick as it gets but appreciate the time Matt & Chris (only two I've ever had there) take to cut your hair and actually line up your sideburns, around your ears and hit your neck with a straight razor. Matt and Chris are great guys who will talk about anything with you, whether its how they hate Teen Mom or about their love of Rock. Definitely one of the best cuts I've ever had. This place isn't close at all or convenient for me, but I still make the trip across town. The atmosphere here is instantly welcoming, which was the biggest factor for me in trying to find a new place to get my haircut after moving here. I started out with Matt, who done a good job overall, but after I kept coming in on his off days (Wednesdays), Chris has been my barber ever since and has definitely given me some if not the best fades I've ever had. Dropped in for haircut after reading about this place on Yelp. There were about five guys in front of me on a Saturday morning and it took a good two hours before I was out of there with a fresh cut. While the wait was a bit daunting the atmosphere was comfortable with leather couches, lots of guy to guy banter and very friendly clients and barbers. I've been in the military for over 20 years, and have had lots of haircuts both good and bad. Uppercuts is one of the best haircuts I've ever received. Chris did a fantastic job! This place is a hidden gem, literally. It took a minute to find because it blends in with the neighborhood that surrounds the shop. The guys that work there are great; stiff upper lip, but funny to talk to. And egad -- they do a great hair cut. They really give a damn that you look sharp before you head out the door. Finally, other people have talked about their not answering the phone or taking reservations, but they actually just recently started a policy for taking same-day appointments. Call early. Just found this spot. A real hidden gem. The guys will talk about anything and they actually take their time to cut your hair. Most places you hop in the chair and your out in 10 minutes. This one took at least a half hour (with straight razoring the neck). This isn't a complaint, it was nice for someone to actually take time to give a quality cut.
