Inside

The seating inside was so cool but somewhat small and our bartender was friendly. Solid brewery, but not the best in Portland. We each got a round of yonder cider ($7). It came from the can and it was chilled. The flavor was more fruity and had a great touch of lavender!! This place is somewhat limited with draft options so I'd be aware of it if you wanted ciders or bolder drafts.

Great beer spot in Portland. They had a variety of beers to choose from that we enjoyed. They are located within a building workspace and also has a outdoor patio. Would definitely recommend for people that love to try different varieties of beers. P.S. - dogs allowed inside

They only serve beer!

We decided to go to this brewery before a concert at the Moda Center since it was very close to the venue. Beer and appetizers sounded great, especially to avoid concert venue food! But when we got there, they don't serve ANY food, only beer! So don't believe the yelp reviews or menu saying there is food, this place only has beer!

Great place to go with friends as they have ample seating/space and excellent drinks. Ask for recommendations as the staff know what tastes best. The location was kind of random and a bit hard to find, but it was worth it

Upright Brewing Taproom in Portland, Oregon.

This is an excellent brewery. On our recent visit to Portland, we went to this location, the brewery taproom in the mixed industrial area at the east end of the Broadway Bridge. It is in a shared/mixed-use commercial space and has a nice modified industrial ambience to it with a mixture of comfortable seating inside plus some outside. The feel is comfortable and relaxed and it is often vey quiet, especially at off times. They make excellent beer overall, with a nice mix of styles, and they do old-fashioned open fermentation. I especially give them extra points for doing some British-style cask-conditioned real ales, include a dark mild and excellent English pale ale. I also like their unusual craft-brewed, open-fermented malt liquor, a rarity, and an example of how good that often-maligned style can be if done well. Service is good. It is very casual, at least once to the point of barely bothering to interact despite the lack of other customers, but overall it is good. This is a usual go-to place for us when in town.

Nice place in an akward location. Service was great and beers we okay with so many breweries in pdx id go to a new one over this one again

Ham sandwich split -

Review for the Cafe - Nice place to hit before a game. Not to mention their beer is great. They have food on game days. Several sandwiches to choose from. Was kinda busy on game day as they only had two guys working. Long beer line but it seemed to move slightly fast. We split a ham sandwich and it was great. Kids are welcome as well.

I love the vibe at Upright - lots of smooth vinyl playing and great beer. I felt a little extra for ordering the Money Avenue IPA with so many interesting beers on the list, but it was delicious. Sorry not sorry

What a really cool brewery! They have a wonderful patio and an excellent space inside with a roll up garage style door to provide an even better experience. Although, the upstairs seating was ridiculously hot. They really need to have some kind of fan going on the upper level because after being there for an hour, most of our party was sweating so much we stuck to the chairs when we went to leave. What about the beer? Considering this brewery was one that was recommended to us as specializing in sour beers, it was odd that the sour beers weren't more prominently featured on their draft list. In fact, it almost felt as if the sour beers were hidden and the only way to find them was to read the descriptions of all of the beers. However, all of the beers that we tasted were very good! The only reason I removed one star from the rating was that the food which was offered seemed to be a bit expensive. For example, two dollars for a bag of chips that you could probably get at the grocery store for $.75. Maybe if the chips had been served in a basket, it wouldn't have felt as if I could've walked down to the 7-Eleven and gotten the exact same thing. Plus, the chips were literally in a cardboard box above the fridge. That certainly did not match the overall upscale aesthetic of the establishment. The other slight complaint is about their merchandise. Basically, don't buy their T-shirts. While they have an incredibly cool design on the front, the shirt feels as if it is a combination blend of cotton and sandpaper. All things considered, this is definitely a spot we will stop by when we are in the area to have a beer. I can't really say that we would go out of our way to go here but it does the job.

Their tap list is extensive but also includes non-standard options. We love to see non-alcoholic beers as well as gluten free beer, cider, cocktails, and other libations. The food menu is great too. There are several items that either come gluten free or can be modified to be. The servers are knowledgeable about the ingredients of the menu items and I feel confident and safe eating here when gluten free is a need for me. They can get pretty crowded, but have several seating options. It was nice out today so outdoor seating was even possible, though it looked like there was a wait. There are tvs in several spots that showcase local sports when possible. There is a kids area and you can sit close while the kids play. Everyone we come in contact with here from servers to hosts are super friendly and welcoming. The food is pretty good. This time around, we shared the garlic Parmesan fries and the chicken wings (buffalo and honey gojuchang sauces). The wings were smoked and moist with good flavor. The fries were alright. More of the aioli would have helped so maybe request extra sauce or get some on the side. The dessert menu has some non-traditional offerings. The highlight for me was the cheesecake. I was assured by a server one time that the chef creates a gluten free cheesecake that rotates on the seasonal dessert menu. The current offering is tiramisu. The coffee chocolate sauce is good and I appreciated the bonus chocolate chip biscotti. The actual cheesecake is decent and I would be excited to try other flavors in the future.

The patty was cooked with a slight pink -- exactly how it should be -- juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The spring lettuce was an interesting switch from the usual, but it actually worked and gave the burger a fresh bite. It's a solid-sized burger too, definitely filling. Only minor thing was some of the cheese slid off, but nothing that took away from it overall. I also tried the Caesar salad. It didn't come with croutons (not sure if that's intentional), and while the dressing was evenly coated, the Parmesan was a bit heavy and ended up overpowering the rest. Not bad, just not as balanced as it could be. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It's put together in a way that makes you forget you're even in the city -- relaxed, comfortable, and easy to settle into. Service was easily a 10/10. Attentive without being overbearing, respectful, and genuinely friendly -- the kind of staff that makes the experience better without trying too hard. Overall, a really solid spot. Great rooftop vibe and a fun place to hang out for an afternoon. We ordered a beer flight, and as someone who's had quite a few brewery flights and is pretty open-minded when it comes to beer, this one unfortunately missed the mark for me. Out of the 10 beers, only about 3 were somewhat enjoyable and around 4 were honestly undrinkable. Thankfully, the food redeemed things a bit. We got the pizza with artichoke hearts, mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, and basil. It was super flavorful and the dough was delicious, especially the crust. We also tried the catfish po' boy. It was a little salty, but the fish itself was cooked really well and the sauce was tasty. The spring mix salad with cranberries, slivered almonds, and feta was good too, though I personally would've liked a better toppings-to-lettuce ratio. Overall, I'd come back for the rooftop and food, but probably know to expect mediocre brews.

Simple with pepitas, kale and raddicio. Cheese and dressing. Their beers are some of my favorite from a local brewery. Their Cloud Mentality is a good choice for IPAs. The line gets long for the bar and there's no way to close your tab if you leave it open unless you're willing to wait in the line again to pay. If you don't do that you will be automatically charged 20% gratuity which is a good deal to not have to line up just to close out.

One of the driest IPAs I've had in years, and just delicious! Really unique. Instead of a punch-you-in-the-face hops (which I also like), this one had a super complex flavor.
