Date of visit: May 9, 2026 Server: Marissa We walked by this fun spot on our way to Screen Door, and then turned around and came back here when the wait at that other establishment was nearing two hours. Marissa was hilarious and fun, which I would like to think is also how people describe me from time to time. My chicken Caesar wrap was excellent, with a flavorful tortilla and crisp lettuce inside. I paired it with the tomato soup, and it made for a lovely meal. Decor is very pub-like, but we found the tables to be comfortable and those facing the windows got to scope out all the dogs passing by, a nice bonus. Really the only false note was the root beer. I don't drink soda often, but appreciate a good locally made RB, however this was a swing and a miss, with a way too heavy taste of sarsaparilla. read more

Backwoods is still my favorite of Pearl brewpubs. Good for us, but maybe bad for them, it was super quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Music wasn't loud - wonderful. There were a few folks watching the games on tv but otherwise it was calm. The crowd also seemed older and it was just great for relaxing with a few beers and getting burgers. In contrast, we originally walked by 10 Barrel which was super loud and busier. Plus they are next to a place that was doing a Sunday DJ special event so that was loud too. Our server was awesome. She handled my senior family with ease and brought them samplers to help pick which beers they wanted. Burgers hit the spot and the beers were good. We will be back! read more

Our next brewery stop wasn't far away so we just walked. Love when things are so close. Backwoods Brewing had a very northwest feeling to it, which I liked. Aside from the beer, they also have food and a happy hour menu. We ordered the Fried Artichokes, which were absolutely wonderful. Honestly, in my opinion, breweries do need to have a food menu or at the least a food truck to serve their patrons. We often look for places with food or will choose those places over others that don't. Finding breweries that have things for everyone is important, many people only like specific styles, like me with sours and ciders or many people don't drink alcohol but want to be social with their friends that do. read more

We loved their great happy hour! They have $1 beers, $2 off wine, and food that easily serves as meals. Corndogs were awesome--the bread was crispy with a soft center. The chicken strips had a nice crisp coating and tender meat. The standard tator tots were perfect crispy, seasoned right. We also tried some Cajun tater tots and they were too intense for us. This is not a complaint--take it as a warning that those tots will serve up Cajun burning! The boozy bear was amazing and easy to drink. There were also 3 gummy bears topping it! We found we could easily drink many without realizing we were getting drunk! We also had beer flight. They had 16 choices at the time we visited. There were dark, wheat, and even fruity beers to try! Awesome brew pub and restaurant! We arrived on a busy Sunday with a party of 7 and it took a few minutes to get a few tables together for us. We had three kiddos with us and there was great kids menu. There was a great menu for us bigger kids too. Great beer assortment along with hard liquor and speciality drinks. I had a classic old fashion, hand muddled and perfectly made. The food was great, unfortunately I didn't get any pictures. Too busy eating and enjoying the food! The pub itself is large and surprisingly quiet even though being packed. They sell an assortment of swag and shirts. We'll be going back on our next time through Portland. read more

Found myself back in the neighborhood for a long weekend and quenched my thirst at Backwoods. Longing for the RIP City Remix, it certainly hit the spot. The place was packed and rightfully so, it's a great spot to catch a game. I had some yummy salty perfectly crispy sweet potato fries to go with the beer and it was so enjoyable! This was stop number two on our first night in Portland... it was right around the corner from stop number one and both were down the street from our hotel. Big and cozy on the inside with lots of people enjoying the food and beer. We found a couple of seats at the bar and were quickly greeted by the bartender with water and menus. Corner Street Pub is the kind of spot you walk into once and immediately know you'll be back. I ordered the Little Town Burger, and it delivered. The patty was cooked with a slight pink -- exactly how it should be -- juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The spring lettuce was an interesting switch from the usual, but it actually worked and gave the burger a fresh bite. It's a solid-sized burger too, definitely filling. Only minor thing was some of the cheese slid off, but nothing that took away from it overall. I also tried the Caesar salad. It didn't come with croutons (not sure if that's intentional), and while the dressing was evenly coated, the Parmesan was a bit heavy and ended up overpowering the rest. Not bad, just not as balanced as it could be. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It's put together in a way that makes you forget you're even in the city -- relaxed, comfortable, and easy to settle into. Service was easily a 10/10. Attentive without being overbearing, respectful, and genuinely friendly -- the kind of staff that makes the experience better without trying too hard. Overall, a really solid spot. Unfortunately , the "strawberry cream ale" I had was noticeably lacking in strawberry and cream ale flavors, drinking more like an session IPA. Came to this brewery that has a few taprooms in the Pacific Northwest, including this one in the Pearl District. It has a good variety to choose from. Backwoods is known for being available in many bars and convenience stores in the area. Has even more of a selection on tap with many rotating and seasonal ones. There's also food, fried things like tater tots and that kind of stuff. Amazingly it wasn't too busy when we came in. It's got more than enough room inside, with the bar and a few tables offering plenty of seating. There's a pretty good variety on tap. Has more than just the typical styles of beers. It's about $7 a pint. That's pretty okay for a craft brewery around this area it seems. Best one of these we had was the Chuggernaut IPA. This has notes of citrus, lime, and melon. Also we got some food. It's about $8 for tater tots. Bad thing is there's limited vegetarian choices. Has a pretty expensive quinoa salad and veggie wrap. Barbecued and fried is what they have mostly. There's burgers and wings among the meaty options. For sure it's another good place to get local beers. It's located on NW Everett Street at 11th. The beers are the best, but the food menu has some good things. read more

Backwoods is a great restaurant in the Pearl to eat some great food and watch sports. Both times that I went, I had the nachos with bbq pork. The cheese sauce was super delicious, chips were great, and there was ample toppings. Service is friendly and good. It's a bit loud but I do like the restaurant space. Needed a place for a late night dinner after a day of driving. On a Saturday night they were open until 11pm and their kitchen closed at 10:15. I made reservations for table for 3 at 9:45pm. We were a little late getting there at 9:59pm. The 3 of us then had to split a table technically for 2 but we made it work. The salads were delicious and we tried two of the beers. The entree salad was large so the smaller one would be fine if you did not want leftovers. Pretty tasty and attentive waiter too. read more

Best brewery in downtown!! The rooftop was amazing views and shades but the service is significantly slower if you choose that versus inside seating. We got a beer flight ($13) and the happy hour Buffalo chicken sliders with tots ($8). Both were so good for the value and portion. I liked how this place allowed you to sample and pick which beers you want in your flight. The food came out fast and the flavors here are a lot more unique to other breweries. My wife spent date night downtown at Backwoods. A brewery located on the corner of 11th offers local beer & food. Our server was very friendly and the food came out in a timely fashion. To start, we got the giant pretzel which was decent. I would try a different app next time. I got the Little Town Burger with fries and was very pleased, solid burger.
