My first experience was excellent. I sold some silver bars and a couple coins for a fair price. But my second experience was awful. I was told I would be talking to "the coin guy" who was as passionate about collecting coins as I have been for 10 years. Not in the slightest bit true, because the coin guy was somewhat knowledgeable, but tried to low-ball my collection by around $150. And when I showed him APMEX estimate, he brushed it off and told me my collection was just trinkets. And then told me I shouldn't buy collector coins, I should stick to bars for selling. So no, I'm not happy, and I won't be back, I'd have better experience at a small time pawn than dealing with his ego. read more

Made my first trip to Upstate Gold Exchange yesterday and walked out of their shop highly satisfied. I am new to precious metals, and Jason took a solid 45 minutes answering questions and offering advice before I made a purchase. He and the rest of the staff were very friendly, informative, and put no pressure whatsoever on me to buy anything. It was refreshing having someone willing to take the time to walk someone new to metals through all the process, and for that I'll be dealing exclusively with them moving forward. History

Established in 2010.

Upstate Gold Exchange opened its doors in Simpsonville, South Carolina in May of 2010 when two locally established families banded together to provide professional precious metal services. But don't let our newness fool you. We have plenty of precious metal savvy and experience. Tony, the patriarch and anchor of the business has been buying and selling precious metal in South Carolina for decades. Jason, Tony's son, has been assisting him along the way. Steve, who focuses on the business side, is a bit of a propeller head; he spends most of his time making sure processes run smoothly and that all transactions are compliant with South Carolina laws. "The 'We Buy Gold' business has been wrongly associated with pawn shops, title loans and cash-n-go storefronts which are often viewed as sketchy. We want our gold business to be upscale and professional. We like a friendly, safe and pleasant environment and that is what we want to provide for our customers."

Meet the Business Owner: Jason S.

Our Upstate Gold Exchange family has been involved in precious metals for years, but in 2010 we decided to open a storefront in Simpsonville for the public where we could expand our services. The reception to UGX was awesome, and within a few months we had opened our second location in Greenville, which also took off and remains very strong. A couple of years more and we now have five locations and a larger UGX family, all local and in the Greenville area of SC. We have moved from dealing exclusively in precious metals, and branched out into the worlds of numismatics (coins), diamonds and vintage jewelry. We have two bench jewelers on staff, as well as a diamond grader. Our goal at UGX is to offer great customer service and to build trust in an industry where integrity is paramount.
