I decided to start buying my shooting supplies and ammo at local gun shops instead of the big stores. So today I stopped into Upstate Guns and Ammo to get some extra ammo for my pistol as my annual LEOSA qualification is coming up. I wanted four .40 S&W boxes of 50 rds but the sales staff stated the limit was two boxes per person. The boxes of 50 rds at this time were $19.99. The price of this ammo is important as you will see. She offered me a box of 200 rds for $89.99 which would fill my needs. When I pointed out that four boxes of 50 rds ($79.96) should be cheaper than a bulk box of 200 rds ($89.99). She agreed with me and then picked up all the boxes of 50 rds. I told her I wanted two boxes of 50 rds for the price stated on the box, but she said this ammo was no longer for sale, but I could still buy the bulk box 200 rds for $89.99. While she is telling me the box of 50 rds are no longer for sale; she is actually using her price-clicker to raise the price on the boxes of 50 rds. Unbelievable... I'm a retired law enforcement officer who has been buying ammo for the past 40+ years and I have never been treated like this by a local gun shop. I decided to travel up Central Avenue to the American Shooter Supply Inc which I believe was previously was B&J Guns. I was glad I did. I picked up four boxes of 50 rds of .40 S&W for $81.96. This place is fantastic. I was looking at a gun for 2 years and finally decided this is the year to get it. Due to high demand some guns are impossible to get but Craig and is staff were very friendly and helpful to get me what I needed. Some gun stores around the area don't care what you want because what comes in goes out just as fast so you're just a number but not at Upstate Guns and Ammo. God forbid you call and ask them to see if they have something instock. They would actually have to get off their rear end and look. Not all customers live close and can just stop in. If the website is not accurate or doesn't clearly state what is on the shelf that isn't the customers fault. What ever happened to customer service? This is a professional atmosphere the people that run this place know what they are talking about and they are very respectful and understanding to your questions. They offer training courses for you and get you set up and help you to move forward in getting set up to have a pistol permit. They help walk you through what type of gun would work for you what type of gun would not work for you. Believe it or not you can't just pick up a gun and say okay this is the one that is it going to work because they don't always fit your needs are suit your needs depending on how heavy the gun is depending on the size of the gun it may be something that's not suited for what you are looking for. The knowledge that these people have will help you to choose the very best weapon that will help you become best suited to protect yourself and become a responsible gun owner. This is not all that they have though they carry all forms of weapon including bows so I would definitely recommend going in and taking a look it will definitely be worth it.
