Went there to buy new sights for a pistol. Ended up forgetting the old sights... called and they confirmed I left them on the counter and put them in the back for me. I talked to Paul about reusing them and went back the next day. Paul installed the old sights on another pistol and did it all fast. This was my first experience with this company. Their store is immaculate and well organized. Fresh displays. Lots of merchandise. The sales folks were extremely friendly and knowledgeable - not just with me personally but with other customers I was observing interaction with. OK, that was the very good stuff. I had ordered something on-line from them and the receipt email said I would receive a confirmation email when my merchandise was ready for pickup. I never got an email and ended up calling for status a few days later and was told my order was indeed ready for pickup. OK, I can deal with that slip up. Not a big deal. However, neither of the two employees on duty was wearing a mask (I was wearing a mask). To me, if you care about your customers, you should wear a mask. If not being worn to make a political statement, you have the right to express your view - but not potentially at my expense in terms of health risk. There were several customers coming in and out - some with masks and some without. In my opinion (for what it's worth) customers have the right to be stupid but "responsible" business owners do not have that right. Consider protecting your customers health. Live customers tend to purchase more than dead ones do. read more

I have owned shotguns for over a decade, but when it was time for my first pistol I went to Zack's. Not only were all of the guys behind the counter helpful, as well as always quick with a smile, but they were extraordinarily patient and answered all of my (I now know) silly questions. When I finally got my permit and went to pick up my Glock, one of the guys saw I was struggling in the range and came in to walk me through loading, holding and aiming. That is something most places usually charge for, so when people complain about the prices at Zack's, my response is 'Better customer service is well worth it.' Also, complaints about ammo prices? Call around before complaining. Ammo is either sky high or out of stock. I saw a poor review of Zack's based on the lack of masking their people, as well as not requiring customers to wear masks and I feel some explanation is needed. First, there are large pieces of plexiglass between employees and customers, so masks are not needed for employees. Second, asking that customers do not wear masks is everywhere in this particular industry and for a VERY GOOD reason. There have been many robberies across the nation of gun shops during COVID and the thieves were never identified because of their masks. Those guns were then found to be used in crimes across their respective areas. My response to the poor reviewer is there are some things that are just more important. I took my son to Zacks just before CHRISTMAS to let him pick out what he wanted for Christmas, well there was a severe shortage of what he was looking for so I just asked the person behind the counter when these products would be in, and he just said to keep calling and they'd give us updates. We made numerous calls to stay on top of thing's, we were told that a shipment was expected the next day. We were the first one's there the next morning, my son stood at one of the two front doors, and I stood at the other door to insure that we'd be first at the counter, and that plan worked out great. We saw the item that my son wanted, and we were upset by the price of the item. What was usually just under $700.00 was now $1400.00!!! It turns out that the counter person was actually Zack himself, and when I questioned him about the double the MSRP price, he just lied and said that it was the manufacturer that raised the prices so high.I contacted the manufacturer, and talked to a man that I knew at this company, and he assured me that they hadn't increased their prices at all, and that it was the dealer ( ZACK ) Who had price gouged us and the other customers!!! Zack's did the same thing as that company CHEAPER THAN DIRT did when there were shortages of certain items and AMMUNITION, THEY PRICE GOUGED, AND THEY SCREWED OVER THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS " AND NEIGHBORS ", AND THEY DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN!!! I UNDERSTAND FULL WELL THE CONCEPT OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND, BUT NOT TO THIS EXTENT. I BOUGHT THAT ITEM FOR MY SON BECAUSE I PROMISED HIM THAT FOR CHRISTMAS AND I DIDN'T WANT HIM TO BE DISAPPOINTED. Staff was definitely very friendly and had a great section, but it was the little things that turned me off. 1- Prices were on the high side. Especially on ammo. Granted, ammo is high right now everywhere, but considering I have been getting 9mm ammo for in the range of $14-18 per box, and they were charging $30?? C'mon 2- I asked what their price was for transfers. I think the guy told me $40. But it was what is next that really turned me off. If they have the firearm OR can get it, they wont do your transfer. So if you get a good deal elsewhere, they won't do it. New York like many states is becoming more of a pain for all of us, but it seems these guys are the monopoly in the area. I prefer to go to the local guy, but in this case, I see no reason to pay so much more. Bottom line- If price isn't an issue, I recommend, if it is, shop elsewhere. read more

Purchased a rifle at Zacks last week. Service was great. Was in and out of there in less than a half hour with the background check. They thoroughly explained to me everything about the rifle, showed me how to take/down, clean and maintain it. The guys kindly answered all my amateur questions even though they were questions they probably have answered thousands of times. As far as price is concerned I didn't do any comparisons with other local shops, but I'm fairly certain I paid same price I would have elsewhere. This shop has been in my neighborhood for as long as I can remember and I support hometown businesses, even if it costs a few extra bucks. To the other reviewers complaining about ammo and other pricing I offer you this: this is a private owned shop, it's not Walmart, dicks or another huge box store. If they decide to charge more for ammo because they had it stock piled, and demand suddenly becomes high when the supply is low, than kudos to them! It's a business, small businesses have to do what they need to survive. If you have a problem understanding supply and demand than do yourself a favor and buy the ammo before there is a shortage. read more

First off, the staff is friendly and helpful. I dealt with Kyle, who is extremely knowledgeable and patient, willing to answer all questions with regards to setup, specs, etc... An overall excellent buying experience from start to finish. Purchased 3 guns over several years. My 4th gun I wanted was a Heritage revolver. They don't stock it so had to be ordered. Paid extra because I didn't want to get it from Dicks. However when I ordered it they told me it would be about 2 weeks to get my paper work from the Sheriffs department. Three weeks past by and I called Zacks to see what's the hold up was. Was told there was one girl processing the paper work and was backlogged because of Christmas holiday. Told me to call the Sheriffs department. I went up there and found the courts were closed for the holidays. So now a 5 weeks latter I get a call from Zacks saying they got my gun in and I needed to come up and do the paper work. When I questioned them about how come I appeared to have been mislead they told me that they couldn't process anything without the guns serial number. Not a good experience this time. read more

I've been shopping at Zack's since 1998. I've purchased all of the guns I own there and if I ever have an issue with one (like when I got a snake stuck in my .22) they fixed it no questions asked. Zach's has a great selection of new and used pistols rifles and shotguns. I bought a Smith and Wesson revolver and an M&P pistol there. I also sold my 30-06 rifle to them and was very satisfied with every transaction. They even mail the paperwork to the sheriff for you if necessary. The prices are a little higher than some stores (not by much) but the service and knowledgeable staff are worth the price. They are not stereotypical gun counter guys. I went in to look at a revolver and found they where really over priced so I spoke with the guy about them accepting a transfer. I was told it would cost my $50.00 so i went on Gunsamerca.com and bought the gun for $200 less than they have advertised and then they refused the shipment. If they had only told me they didn't accept transfers on guns they sold then I would still do business with them. But they refused to work with me or help me out in any way. I am now stuck with an $800 gun I cant take shipment on. I will never step foot inside there place. read more

Went there to get a NY State legal AR 15. Spent close to $1000 on a gun and scope, which they were pushing. One week later, I went back hoping to return/ upgrade, with cost not a problem. The owner refused to even consider a trade. Did not want the rifle at all. No way to run a business. They instantly lost a potentially long term customer. If I could give less than one star, I would. I have known the owner here since he was 13 or 14 years old. He was always a good kid. My visit to his store today after my family purchased over 20 guns from him over the years was unrealistic! I'm saddened to feel the need to write this review. I'm a long time customer of Zack's and have purchased several firearms there over the years. I have also introduced several new customers to Zack's, most resulting in firearms purchaces. Generally the staff has been very helpful and on point with their advice and recommendations. A short time ago I discussed a trade of a firearm I own for a Zack's firearm. They took my firearm "upstairs"(Common practice if Kevin is not in the shop they'll run it up to him) to get looked at and I was quoted a price. I stopped in today and was shown a firearm they had gotten in perfectly suited for my needs. I didn't have the firearm I was trading with me and told them I go home and return with it to do the deal. Upon returning about 30 minutes later, much to my disappointment I was told that Kevin wasn't interested in my firearm. His staff told me that Kevin claimed he didn't remember giving a price for it. As a long time customer a respectfully asked to speak to Kevin. Didn't make any sense to me what was going on. I was told to hang out for a few and Kevin would come down to speak to me. Over an hour passed before Kevin showed at the counter. He actually wasn't even there to speak to me as another customer had come in with a couple of firearms to trade. I asked to speak to him and reminded him I was told to wait for him. He basically blew me off. Was rude and short with me. Basically had his back to me the whole discussion. Said he would speak to his guys tomorrow about what I was told. Could not of shown less concern or respect for me as a customer. I expected more from Kevin. Respect, customer service and fair treatment should be the norm at any business. Was not the case at Zack's. read more

NYS Troopers recommended I have a handgun transferred here when moving back to NY. After repatriating and getting my pistol permit, I got my pistol back with a skewed rear sight (Sig Sauer 229). First bad mark. I later asked for a price on another pistol that I had already tracked down on one of the numerous online brokers. The price from Zacks came back 200 higher. I informed the owner of this, to which he replied, we won't accept a transfer from them. I said, OK, I get it... I'd rather give my business to someone locally, but can we discuss meeting in the middle. "You have my price." Delivered in a very rude tone. It's not about the money at this point... it's principle. Despite that, I walked out and did my deal elsewhere. After a few months, I went back and inquired about another less-expensive firearm. The difference was not so great that it wasn't worth taking the easy route... so I bought it at Zacks. After that, decided on buying another something else... did my online research... stopped by. Zacks claimed it was unobtainable... again dealing with the owner... terrible bedside manner. I bought somewhere else. I have now attempted to buy over 2k worth of product from them and been turned away. Some of the guys there are good to talk to, but the guy who runs the shop really should pay someone else to manage the joint and deal with humans... giving away a lot of business and you're not the only game in town. read more
