Having never been inside I wasn't sure what to expect - a really nice pub style vibe was my guess, so I was shocked to walk into find a beautiful full blow vintage style large dining room. The interior is really gorgeous and has a feel of cool supper club with wooden floors, leather seats and wood paneling. I especially loved the circular booths along the back wall and the art work was gorgeous. However something wasn't sitting right with me about the interior and after sitting for a few minutes I finally put my finger on it - they used paper table cloths over the linen ones.....REALLY?? They have clearly spent a fortune on the interior, the food isn't cheap and the staff are suited and booted to look stylish and slick and you use paper table cloths? I hate them anyway but in these surroundings found it particularly jarring because everything else was so lovely. The menu in Urban is really really appealing to my taste and everything sounded so delicious. In the end I decided to start with the Braised Beef Cheek served with Parsnip Puree and Crispy Leeks. I'm going to start with the positives - the Puree was deliciously smooth and perfectly seasoned and the beef was tasty and fell apart. The negatives for me were the crispy leeks which weren't crispy, they were chewy and tasted like dried grass and the gravy was quite weird it tasted really flavoursome but the texture was quite gloopy and slimy. Having said that other than the leeks I scoffed the lot. For my main I went for the Lemon Sole grilled which normally comes with Chips and Tartar Sauce. I asked for the fish fillets to come with a side of rocket and parmesan instead. When it arrived the side salad was covered in Balsamic Glaze ( I asked for it without) so it was sent back and the lovely waitress apologised - no harm done. I have no real strong thoughts on my main to be honest, the fish was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious and the salad was lovely with lots of big slices of morish parmesan. No complaints I would happily eat this again. I noticed though that the chips looked like they might be frozen chips - I may be totally wrong but they definitely did not look like a delicious fresh chip. I would expect somewhere with these prices (£55 for 2 for 2 courses) would be serving a gorgeous triple cooked chips. I don't know what it is but I left Urban feeling quite disappointed, I think possibly when I saw the interior that I was expecting fine dinning but it wasn't it was pretty decent food but it didn't blow my mind. If you asked me what they did wrong I would struggle to answer you all I can put it down to was that my expectations were raised to the potential of an exceptional meal but in reality it was just a perfectly good meal. read more

I came here for lunch with my mum after buying an Itison voucher offering us 3 courses each. I am always a little sceptical about how good a meal bought through a voucher will be, but I am glad to say Urban exceeded my expectations. The interior of the restaurant is lovely - it would be a nice venue for a special meal. The set menu had plenty of choice - not always the case. We both opted for the prawn and fennel cocktail to start. This was delicious - really light and fresh. For my main I had sea bass with mozzarella and tomato salad. Cheese and fish isn't a combination I would usually go for but it really worked here. To finish off I had a latte and a selection of cheeses served with oatcakes. A lovely end to a lovely meal. I will definitely be returning to sample the evening menu. read more

After humming and hawing for several days over where a group of us were eating tonight, we finally settled on the Urban Brasserie. I've never been before, but have colleagues who rave about the place, so I was quite eager to try it out. We made a very short notice booking via 5pm. This is a pretty expensive restaurant - but the deal we got (2 for 1 mains), made it well worth a bash. When we arrived, we were advised our table wouldn't be ready for 30 mins so we grabbed a drink at the bar. The bar is open to the restaurant but has its own private room just beside it, which looked really cosy. Once seated (in one of the several booths that were empty when we arrived), we very quickly made our food choices. I opted for the chicken breast with mustard mash and mushroom sauce. It was - and I don't use this word lightly - beautiful! The chicken was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms /sauce was simply mouthwatering. I quite seriously can't describe just how much I enjoyed it! We pigged out and got sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Normally this comes with vanilla ice cream, but we asked for honeycomb ice cream as that was on the menu in another dish - this request was no bother at all. The pudding was the stickiest, toffeeist, honneycombiest desert I've ever had. I can't wait to go back again and sample more from their menu. Oh, and their waiting staff are v dishy too read more

The Urban does look regal in this old victorian building. IT kind of feels like you could be walking up the steps maybe 60 years ago as the doorman holds open the door for you. I came here with my mum and a few of her friends who had a mixture of cocktails and tea (with real rock style sugar cubes)! It is pretty chique inside and everything else about it seems pretty upper class. We waited on our table for a bit and then had some wine which was delicious. I had a mian course only of lemon sole but I heard remarks of a positive nature being passed about the 'Breast of Chessingham duck'? I think I got that right. A beautiful place, with an audience which may afford it more regularly than others. read more

Yelp says 3*=A OK so I'll go with that. I came here in a party of ten to take advantage of the private dining offer from a local deals website. The deal was: Canapés and a glass of prosecco on entering, followed by three courses with bread and butter plus tablet and tea or coffee. Washed down with half a bottle of wine each for £30. I thought this sounded about right, I'd certainly not pay the "full price" of £60 per head but this was pretty Decent. We were hosted in the "board room" and it did have a pretty official feel to the place with a couple of candelabras and a small speaker system for playing our own music. We also had a member of staff waiting on us most of the night which was nice. The red wine was lovely, didn't enjoy the white so much. Canapés were nice but all fishy. Starter of a cheese tart was pretty nice but felt a bit shop-bought. Main of a giant fish cake was overly salty for my taste but still nice. Dessert of caramel honeycomb thing was small but rich. It was nice but I was expecting a bit nicer. However the private dining was great for us as some of the things we were joking about were certainly not for public consumption!!! read more

I'd been looking forward to coming to Urban for a while, but just hadn't got around to it. So when a work do was taking place here, I was quite excited to try it out. Firstly - lovely decor and surroundings. It feels very upmarket, and the service definitely matches this. A nice buzzy ambiance on a Friday night. Secondly, the food is very good. Not perfect, but very good. I had the sashimi starter, the bream in paper for main and then the banana ice cream. The sashimi was definitely the highlight for me, served with a delicate soy sauce with spring onions, and plenty of ginger. The fish was perfectly fresh, and it was a lovely way to start off a meal. The bream was perfectly cooked in parchment, however I found the way it was served a bit odd - the sticky rice was in a separate bowl, and the sticky rice just got gloopy when mixed with the sauce the fish was served in...not sure. However the chilli and citrus sauce the bream came in was lovely, and the tiger prawns went well with the dish. The banana ice cream itself was good, however the toffee sauce it was served with made it more banoffee flavour which I am not a massive fan of. I would definitely return, they have a nice varied menu and lovely service, and to have a good quality restaurant like this right in the centre of Glasgow is always handy. read more

Came in for lunch. Nice looking restaurant but could do with clearing of the clutter at the door. Didn't seem to have an obvious maitre d' to handle patrons coming in to dine, that may be because lunches are quieter than after work or evenings. Service was friendly and good not great. Food was okay, but the experience was pretty poor overall. There were 10 of us, so we were told that we were a 'large party' and had to pick a fixed price menu in advance. The fixed price came to £5-£10 more than if we'd paid for what we'd eaten at the regular menu prices, and we had significantly less choice. We were seated right next to a (very loud) piano that made it difficult to carry out conversation whilst we dined. The service was pretty slow (one of our party had to leave to get his train home before they'd taken the desert orders - and still had to pay for the dessert/coffee he couldn't have!). There was a good 5 minutes between the first of our main courses arriving and the last two turning up. When the bill turned up we eventually realised we'd been over charged by around a further £30 as we'd been charged separately for tea/coffees that were included in the fixed menu price. read more

Yes. Yes, yes yes. That's kind of what I sounded like while I dined here on a hopping Saturday night. We started with some Scottish oysters on the half shell, and they were as fresh as the cold Atlantic (or Irish Sea?) waters that surround the UK. My demi glass of wine was perfect for the appetizer. If only America did that too! Our entrees were delicious. I had the venison sausage and my boyfriend had the duck. We were in carnivore heaven. The roast veggies were ok, but unmemorable. Our dessert, in my true chubby fashion, was the cheese plate. This divine slab of dairy by-product introduced me to Old Amsterdam, and made my boyfriend realize that he liked cheese. Hurray for cheese! After I finished my glass of yummy red we stumbled our full bellies back to our seedy hotel and savored the tastiness. That's what Urban and their two AA Rosettes will do to you. this restaurant is usually very very good, but last night I went using a itison Glasgow voucher and the meal was the most underwhelming thing I've ever eaten, the set menu reserved just for voucher users was so basic and budget, we asked for our burgers to be medium but where advised they are all cooked well done (i suspect they where pre cooked and then warmed in the oven) and out comes hockey pucks in a bun. really disappointed, especially when walking through the restaurant and seeing other diners enjoying proper cooked meals that clearly been cooked with passion because they weren't using a voucher. there was also a distinct lack of any atmosphere with no music, just the sound of the real housewives of Glasgow cackling from the other side of the restaurant. read more

Went for dinner the other night with my husband and the in-laws. I had the pate to start which was nice (not amazing, but nice) and it came with lots of mini oat cakes. My main was the beef which I asked for medium, I would say it was medium/well done but it was lovely and the sauce and mushrooms and wedges that came with it were to die for. The others I was with got the French Onion soup which comes highly recommended! The service was very good, they kept coming to fill up our wine and water and offering bread etc - very attentive. The atmosphere is very high end wine bar (that sounds a bit 80's but you know what I mean). It had a pianist playing and lots of people drinking cocktails and wine in the bar area. It worked out about £85 per couple which wasn't bad - I'll definitely be back. read more

Stumbled across Urban Bar & Brasserie only by chance looking for a restaurant in Glasgow. So glad we did as it was stunning. They don't really do themselves justice outside - just a few menus. We saw they had a 2 people for £55 offer so thought we'd do that. Inside, the building is beautiful! High ceilings, really nice seating and a really calm environment. After seeing the A-la-carte menu we decided to go with that instead as there were some dishes we couldn't miss. The Maitre'd and waitress were extremely efficient and friendly. Our waitress' product knowledge was a little thin but I'm reckoning she was new and if there was anything she wasn't sure of, she quickly and politely went to find out. The food was out of this world! All in all we think the bill was about half of what we would have paid!! read more
