Just finished a six course meal in Glasgow at a restaurant called the Gannet. Absolutely stunning menu execution with flavors that were next level bordering on otherworldly. On this particular night their team of 7-8 chefs amazed us with their flawless execution on each menu item. Was incredibly difficult to pick a favorite because they were each individually outstanding on their own merits. But the two that bubbled to the top were the cured wild halibut and the aged beef tartare. The way the team was able to merge the multiple flavors harmoniously yet allow distinct flavor separation to be tasted was unworldly on the cured wild halibut. The aged beef tartare was almost equally sublime. By far one of the best meals and execution I've seen worldwide, and the team at the Gannet, from chefs, the front end staff, and bartender individually imprinting patterns into ice cubes for certain drinks clearly work VERY hard to make sure your meal is outstanding. Kudos to the team on far surpassing and amazing this guest with your culinary journey.

Garnet is our highlight of all the meals we planned in Glasgow, hands down. I usually spent a lot of time planning our meals before our trip and this is no accept ion. Was blown away by Garnet's use of really fresh local ingredients and the complexity of flavors. Some of the highlights include the lamb 3 ways (loin, shoulder, sausage) where the 3 preparations were so well integrated with the sweetness from the fresh peas and the sausage wrapped in thinly sliced zucchini - was heavenly. The duck egg was generously portioned for the price with extremely rich flavors. The dessert we ordered was extremely light and refreshing with a strawberry tea foam on it. Also saw the Guinness ice-cream on the menu. Service was super attentive and wine list was spot on without too crazy markups. Other places we went to include Ox and Fitch (4 stars) and Stravaigin (5 stars). These restaurants are all kinda in the same neighborhood - all Michelin worthy.

Where does the term "eating like a gannet come from?" Answer: The Gannet is Glasgow. My taste buds we pleasantly assaulted by the prix fix 6 course menu from this lovely restaurant. We chose to do the wonderful wine paring as well. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable as I was a bit worried we weren't as well dressed as our fellow diners. The 6 course menu was 70 and the wine pairing was 55. Please treat yourself. Every bite was worth it! The stand out dishes was the monkfish with roe with smoked butter sauce and the surprise was the blue murder. Blue cheese as a dessert? Why yes. It works, dammit. It was an added 8 to the bill and oh so worth it. The staff was wonderful and attentive, making sure we were well taken care of. They were extremely knowledgeable of ALL the wines we gulped down. Do not pass this fabulous restaurant up! Cheers!

EMEGERRRDDDDDD. Friggin LOVED this place. Everything was absolutely Spot. On. from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Honestly like, super service - that perfect combination of ultra-professional, with a touch of humour and banter. The decor is contemporary and comfortable with a sophisticated edge. The food though. Wow. We actually just popped in to share some appetisers, not intending on staying long, but then the conversation turned to the salted caramel pudding for desert and sure it'd be rude not to give it a go. Well. If you're a desert person, you need to come here, and you need to have it. Each one is cooked in the oven per order, so takes about 15 mins or so. Incredible. That lava-like liquid oozing out of the most perfect sponge. I'll say it again. Wow. I will absolutely be back here next time I'm in Glasgow.

The Gannet has been on my hitlist for a while and it was worth the wait. Food:- we shared Stornoway Black pudding scotch duck egg. This was absolutely sensational start to the meal. The crumbly texture of the pudding, complimented the the soft egg and crisp outer layer was perfect. Mains I had Scotch beef diamond fillet dripping potatoes, artichoke, shallot and maderia sauce and Amanda had lamb. Both presented to a high standard and the taste was perfect. No improvements could be made. Dessert we shared the caramel fondant and tibia bean ice cream. As someone who prefers a cheesecake or savoury dish this blew me away. Honestly my favourite ever dessert. Cooked to perfection it was firm and slightly crisp on outer layer but soft and gooey in the middle. WOW! The cheeseboard we shared because well we felt like a pair of gannets, when in Rome!!! Was the only let down. It was a bit safe for my liking and the Camembert and Brie were a bit too similar for a board that contained only 4 small selections of cheese. The cheese was great particularly the Lanark blue. But a bit safe, could have been doing with a chutney and we both have a preference of grapes rather than Apple. Service was top notch, relaxed and we were presented with a complimentary pre starter of pumpkin soup and fresh baked bread, also the chef served our desserts which was a nice touch. The cost for one starter, 2 mains, 2 desserts a bottle of red and 2 glasses of red was £92. Which was good value for the quality of meal and service. Ambience in the back area was a little too loud for my liking but I think that's due to the boxy area which means noise is locked in. I'd prefer to sit on the upper terrace or at the back of front area of restaurant. Toilets were immaculate although tiny with a rather large full length mirror which results in anyone being able to have a cheeky glance at your member. We had cocktails afterwards In the bar, wasn't too impressed with them. But I wouldn't let it detract from an otherwise outstanding evening. We will 100% be back.

I was chuffed to return to The Gannet for lunch and discover their amazing lunch time deal - £12 for three small plates from Tuesday-Thursday 12pm-2.30pm. My friend was moving away from Glasgow and had always wanted to try here. It's really lovely to sit in the bar at lunch time as you can do a bit of people watching if you're close enough to the window. A couple of the small plates have a supplement on them and we decided just to order a selection to share between us. The waiter was very helpful and suggested that he would bring them out two at time so nothing got cold while we were eating and chatting. We tried: herring, warm confit of spruce cured salmon, west coast squid with confit chicken wing, Scotch beef "Diamond Fillet", lamb, and of course, the Scotch egg. I've had the squid and Scotch egg before and they were both just as lovely. The fish dishes of herring and salmon were also excellent, and I loved the beef fillet. The only dish I didn't like was the lamb but I don't really like lamb anyway so I happily left that to my friend to eat. I loved how the meal was served - two dishes at a time meant it felt like a very extravagant three course meal but of course, was actually really reasonably priced. The bill was around £40 with drinks and I would love to go back for this amazing deal again as it was just that good. Note: if you're looking for another good offer here, Champagne Sunday is worth a go as it's £25 for three courses and a glass of fizz.

I have struggled to write this review for quite a while. This has the reputation of being one of the best restaurants in Glasgow and I was expecting big things from it. To be honest I left feeling a bit deflated as the meal did not meet my expectations. Clearly though plenty of other people who know loads about good food love it, so maybe it is just not my preferred type of place or cuisine. Anyway here goes... Atmosphere is really "quiet" I would have to say there really ain't one. I have been in a couple of times times now and on both occasions I have left thinking their is no "buzz" about the place whatsoever. We were in as a big group and sat at a long table up the stairs. I think because we were out the way a bit the service was a slower than it might have been if we were on the main part of the restaurant. The food was all ok, but a bit plain in my opinion. I had the salmon to start, the plaice as a main and the chocolate tart (i think it was called that) for desserts it was all from the Christmas menu and it was all pretty average tasting. To be honest from a place with such a big reputation I was expecting interesting and far tastier food. What I think I got was pretty plain and unexciting dishes. Perhaps if I had ordered meat instead of fish it would have been better, but your getting charged the same amount (a lot) so you should still be getting really good tasty food. I did have some lovely champagne and a nice bottle of Orkney red beer (although very over priced again at £6.50 for a bottle of Scottish beer) but it could not make up for the overall disappointment at the food. A sad 3 stars for me.

The first time we went to the gannet there was a booking mix-up (if you've read my blog you'll have seen it) so we went back for lunch today. It's up there with my favourite meals in Glasgow! The lunch menu is reasonable for the standard you are getting at £15 for two courses. We had pickled herring, black pudding scotch egg, pork belly & loin for main and then caramel fondant and lemon posset for main. The dessert wine I had (can't remember the name but it was first on the list) was a lip licking pineapple number, I'd go back for this alone. Service was friendly, non presumptuous and all round ace. We were about to leave when a guy walked in with practically a whole pig and eggs that I presume was straight from the farm. Made me love the place even more!

I finally got around to trying The Gannet last night and was impressed! My visit coincided with the recent Bib Gourment recommendation (part of the Michellin Star Guide for 2015) for the restaurant, so my expectations for my visit were high. This review is actually based on eating here as part of a food tour around Finnieston, with The Gannet being our first stop for 'starters'. When we walked in I loved the look of the place, the decor is modern yet inviting thanks to the lighting and seating arrangements and the bar area showcases their drinks selection well. After reading the drinks menu, which included glasses of Laurent Perrier champagne for £8.50, I picked a New Zealand Sauvingnon Blanc. It arrived it it was delicious and a sign of things to come. I had three small plates and thoroughly enjoyed them all. The food was cooked well and the flavour combinations were perfect. I choose lamb cooked with wild mushrooms and served in mash, lamb sweetbreads and mallard served with beetroot. I'm not sure I could pick a favourite as they were all so good! I can't wait to go back here for a full meal. The staff were pleasant and happy to help and make our group feel very welcome, thanks guys!

Champagne to start off...what's not to like?

I first visited The Gannet not long after it opened and the front of house team management was a little off, to put it mildly. The food was great, surroundings cool and pleasant, but not worth returning at those prices to be told when the wrong starters were brought to our table, "Well this is what is ready, can you not just have it?"....I'm not kidding. But I really wanted The Gannet to be great and it has recently won several awards and titles. I wanted to go back and took the opportunity yesterday. A child free sunny Sunday late lunch was the order of the day. I wasn't disappointed: in fact, I was delighted. I was seated by the professional yet relaxed manager and sat at the back of the restaurant (my choice). The décor is relaxed with lots of wood and stone. On Sundays they serve a champagne lunch, which is excellent value for three courses with a small glass of champagne to kick you off. There were some tempting additions to the menu on a specials board. I chose the East Coast Scallops served with pig's head (which was almost rillettes like), cauliflower, golden raisins and curry oil. In the scallops were perfectly cooked and the flavour combinations were superb. I had a small glass of Marsanne with it, as recommended by my waitress. For main course I chose the Scotch Beef diamond fillet and Oxtail, pheasant back mushrooms, watercress pureé, pickled pearl onions, bone marrow Mayan Hold potatoes, short rib sauce. It was superb: and excellent Sunday lunch. The beef was cooked exactly the way I like it and so tender. The watercress was packed with the flavour and the onions inspired. Though delicious, I didn't feel the addition of the oxtail was necessary. I drank a glass of Las Moras Malbec with the beef. It was lightly smokey and perfumed, with a vanilla note. Another great match. To finish, I was really torn between the Salted Caramel Fondant with tonka bean ice-cream and the Milk Chocolate Feuilletine, peanut brittle, hazelnut ice-cream. I chose the latter and was so, so pleased that I did. It was beautiful executed and such a delicious combination of textures. The hazelnut ice-cream was so smooth and the chocolate not too sweet. I ended up having a lovely chat with my main waitress, Marika. She was knowledgeable about the food and wine, and, more importantly, interested in it. She took the effort to help me choose my food and offered great wine suggestions to match it. She was attentive but not hovering: the perfect service. I passed a very pleasant couple of hours at The Gannet and would definitely recommend it and shall be back. Thank to all of the team for a great lunch.

I've told everyone & their granny about the dessert I enjoyed last week at the gannet. I've been dreaming and thinking about it ever since. Loved my experience from the minute we walked in the door to the moment we left.

Second visit for a family birthday dinner so five stars immediately for having kept all six of us happy twice. The Sunday deal, three courses with a glass of champagne, is fantastic value for this quality of food even though this time they didn't seem to be offering the a la carte dishes at a supplement. The food is inventive and full of flavour. My red deer venison with crispy potato, brambles, spinach and other wee surprise flavours was delicious, served properly seared and pink, moist and tender. The salted caramel fondant and tonka bean icecream with a perfectly runny centre was a sweet salty dream and mine came garnished with a lit candle :) (I might have mentioned it was my birthday) which was a nice touch from friendly, attentive yet discreet serving staff.

The salmon confit with crispy capers and cauliflower purée. Mmmhmmm.

It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! It won't stay off your radar for long. ^^

Was my friends birthday meal here & 8 of us neatly packed in around one table on a busy Friday evening. Set menu at £16 for two courses and £18 for three (from memory!) They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.

A Hidden Gem on Ashton Lane…read more Located on the fabulous and trendy Ashton Lane, this place is anything but typical. From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.
