Update to my last review. Revisited as I previously said the food was very good. My waiter Bob, also the bartender is the BEST! His personality, humor and attentiveness was incredible. My lunch mate is a bit of a pain and he handled her very well, trust me; she is difficult. Had the margarita pizza, coal fired wings and the balsamic calamari, well made and delicious. I order Urban Coalhouse to go every time. It's easy to order online and quick to do an inside pickup. I never had an issue and the order is always correct. I chose to eat gf and the pizza crust is quite good and only $2.00 extra. You must order a medium. I added a raspberry cheesecake which is fine. Not the best but for a sweet bite after lunch it serves the purpose. My coworkers have tried several items off of the menu and said they like everything. I got the UCH Burger fries where included. For 19 dollars I would say that it was good. The size was enough to fill me up and not feel bloated. Ordered online took 10 minutes or so to be ready when I got there I got it right away in and out. Just how I like things to be when picking up an online order. Would go again. read more

So are they worth about $50 + yes. special to take something here for a nice date. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The pizza thin crispy that little burnt smoke taste with perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The salad fresh crispy and dressing has that right amount of taste not to fishy or thick. Stopped by for a cocktail after shopping at Costco today. Usually a pleasant stop for us. Charles , our bartender, was inattentive and was more interested in chatting up a table behind us, after he had his lunch at a table. Most annoying and very disappointing . We recently came to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. We were seated at a table that was very small for our party size of 10. Our party ordered a handful of personal size pizzas, as well as a salad, soup, chicken parm, and Mac and cheese. There was a table that was not set with silverware behind us. I asked our helpful and kind waiter if we could use it to place some of the pizzas so we had room. He advised us that we could. The manager ( Amanda) then came over and told us that we were not allowed to use it because she had a reservation coming in. She moved all of our items onto our overcrowded table. Where we discovered the Mac and cheese had hair in it. They were kind and removed the item and took 10% off. However, they did not clear our plates until we were clearly done and requested it be taken. That was after we sang "Happy Birthday" and the cake was on the table. Meh. Been to the other location in Red Bank. No complaints on that one. Was utterly unimpressed. It was mid January. Still had fall menu (with items crossed out). Just change the menu at that point. They were out of atleast half the bar beverages we tried ordering. Food came out with weird timing. If you're going to lean into family dining - have something to throw the kids to do. I usually get orecchiette pasta with broccoli rabe , sausage with garlic and oil very good. So my wife ordered the eggplant parm with penne it should have been on the soup menu. smothered with sauce like they were trying to hide something , and they were. The eggplant was not breaded and had no flavor. I ordered a top shelf margarita with casa amigos and grand manier. Not good . Told the waitress that it needed grand marnier , she said she knows it's in there and she can get me a shot of grand marnier on the sideand she charged me for it. So I said ok and I poured the whole shot into the glass and it was still horrible. i didnt want to make a seen but the waitress treated me like i had leprosy after that, she didn't want to hear criticism which is part of her job to give feedback to her team. I've been going to Urban Coal House Pizza since it was under their old name. Good food, good atmosphere. BUT....We went last Sunday, ordered the usual, pizza, wings, 2 drinks and a salad. The bill came. Without prior warning the management decided to give us a SURCHARGE BECAUSE WE PAID BY CREDIT CARD. Why wasn't there a sign at the front door??? OK, well I wasn't about to complain until I looked further down on the bill and I was now charged for asking for blue cheese Sause for the wings. Isn't that a standard companion to wings? Seriously? My girlfriend and I decided to give this place a try after passing it so many times. After eating here, I truly wish we just kept driving. To put it simply, this place makes awful pizza. I see there are other reviews where people rave about the pizza and we had high hopes. It's now clearly obvious other reviewers have low standards for pizza which is wild because NJ does actually have very good pizza, just not this place. The pizza was overwhelmingly flavorless and the slices were flaccid. To break it down further, they are using cheap ingredients which is reflected in the lack of flavor. The slices of sausage and pepperoni on our pizza were laughable in terms of size and quality. It is actually amazing that they were able to combine so many ingredients and produced a pizza devoid of flavor. If you look at other reviews which are 5 stars and share pictures of their food, it looks mediocre at best. Save yourself the money and keep on driving. read more

We found this place by chance and didn't expect much. We started with the wings, meatballs and Brussel sprouts and they were all really good! We split Pizza and the Penne Bolognese. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the bolognese was surprisingly one of the better ones we have had in a long time. The service was really good too. read more

I'm really not sure what the story is behind Urban Coalhouse, but I like it! The same location used to be Tommy's Coal Fired Pizza. We stopped in once during the rebranding or change over and thought it was just business as usual under a new name. Gave them another try while we were in the neighborhood and wow! I definitely think the recipes for both their sauce and dough has been refined. If not, maybe it was so long ago I forgot how much I liked them, lol. So while the menu has a ton of specialty pie options, we stuck with a classic large cheese ($17). The balance of texture and flavor were good. I would have liked it a little crispier on the bottom, but if you judge it by the lovely dough blisters, they couldn't have let it go much longer. I dined with my wife and one of my daughters and I got positive reviews from them. It does go a long way Service was very attentive and all in all a positive experience. I know the next time we're in the area and looking for a good pizza, we will be back. read more

Have been here about 6 times. Always good first few times in the Fall and Spring. See a lot of new faces (servers). Went in tonite with my wife. The place was busy. Not sure if a few servers called out (on a Saturday?) but the place seemed short staffed. Service was slow. Didn't seem like there was any direction from management. Busser wiping stuff off end of table right onto the floor. NEVER seen that until tonight. Food was very good as usual but a lot of restaurants have food that is very good. What separates places is the service. UCH has been going noticeably in the wrong direction lately. Gonna give it a rest and go back to some other places for awhile. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Tommy's before. I've been here maybe six times and would have given it 4 stars in the past, but this visit barely eked out a three. Past visits the staff have been very friendly and helpful; this visit I just didn't feel it. Four of us sat at the high tops near the bar and perused the menu. I haven't been here in over a year but it seems if the menu changed, I didn't notice. Maybe ten beers on tap with a decent craft selection.Three of us opted for individual pizzas while my brother had the wings. They brought out his wings first. The wait person brought them in less than five minutes of ordering them. While she was at the table he remarked, "that was fast" and while she was there he realized they weren't warm and had her return the wings so they could heat them up. I ordered a vodka pizza and got that before my brother's wings came back. I had a slice and this too wasn't hot; definitely not just out of the oven. I had to return my pizza too. The young waitress was a bit abashed by the whole ordeal but she kindly returned my pizza with due deference. Experience will show her in the future not to serve cold food. I thought my pizza was a three out of five. I don't know if this transition to "Urban" instead of Tommy's is a complete change of management or not. Regardless, these pizzas and wings were precooked. My sister and I are Gluten Free, which isn't offered for a personal pizza, so instead we had to order a MEDIUM one topping for $18 and a salad that came out BARELY bigger than the side salad for $10. The pizza I am holding in my hand is the PERSONAL pizza and the one with mushrooms is the MEDIUM size GF pizza. This is actually comical to say the least. What a total rip off plus if you get a medium pizza, any additional toppings are $2 each. And for a personal it's $1... so this is just baffling. read more
