Mozzarella sticks, house salad and ny clam chowder as a starter. Perfect Simple's done well. Contents of the soup were a little large , but who i am to look a gift horse in a mouth? I'd call it "Rustic". Duck ragu special phenomenal large portion, creamy sauce , nicely seasoned. You actually tasted each individual seasoning. Chop steak was good. I'd call it user error. I'd order it with a little less gravy next time. Didn't have a burger taste most have. Hard sear , steak Crust with a capital C and double scoop of mashed potatoes. I so love this place! First, there are no better, harder working servers, relentlessly cheerful regardless of whatever they are hit with, anywhere! Kind, diligent, and a real smile, not a pained phony one that usually passes at so many other places. They make you feel at home. The food is not pretentious. It's attractive, but is served as being just what it is, no frills or hype needed. I stick to the specials usually and they are always top notch. For instance I am nearly always disappointed with prime rib, but here it is wonderful, and always done exactly as you like. A rare thing. Tonight I had grilled halibut, served with a bit of perfectly cooked broccoli and a baked potato. My God! The oysters on half shell are always fresh and delicious, and at $4 each a real bargain. So hard to stop eating them..... Meal comes with a basket of plain little rolls and a plate of cinnamon rolls as well. I'm not a cocktail connoisseur so I can't really compare too well with others, but I have to say the whisky sour I had really sent me - a wonderful taste. All this in a comfortable, dimly lit, homey place unchanged since 1973, with always smiling, mannered (! yes, really) people filling the tables. No reservations, but if you have to wait, no matter. Another great meal on the books! There were seven of us... three were children. Our Server, Jenn was amazing. She brought out the children's food while we were having our salads. Nobody wants to deal with HANGRY kids. The kids dinners were ample enough to bring half home for the next night's meal. Our dinners were steaks and seafood and pasta, and everything was cooked to perfection. Even the cocktails are brag-worthy. Perfect cosmos... Perfect martinis... Perfect old-fashions. Got the Tavern Pizza, first time here since my gf is a pizza lover and no not happy, no I can't say that this place has great atmosphere music surrounding location, unfortunately what she said is while it's then and crispy. The problem is the sauce. They put a nice amount of cheese. The bread kinda feels like a cracker like the cardboard cracker kind of bread, and that the sauce taste like marinara from a jar not a good first time impression hopefully we go back there and the other food taste right. read more

Windward Tavern never disappoints! I've been here several times and I've been able to get a completely different dish every time. From Italian to burgers to seafood, Windward does everything right. I really enjoyed my chicken Francese--the sauce had a great lemony flavor and the perfect texture. It tasted like it was from a real Italian restaurant! My meal came with a side dish, soup or salad, and a basket of bread, and it was a great deal for ~$20. The bread came with cinnamon butter, vaguely reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse's signature butter. My whole family enjoyed the buffalo wings for our appetizer, but they were SPICY! The French dip sandwich was a popular choice amongst my table, and so was the steak sandwich. However, both dishes had LOTS of garlic. One thing to note is that Windward cooks their meat on the rarer side, so I would recommend ordering your steak/burger medium well if you want it medium, for example. Windward also has many seasonal specials and craft cocktails, which all looked pretty delicious. I will definitely be back to Windward the next time I'm in NJ! read more

Windward Tavern is a bar & restaurant in Brick. It is a cute house looking building on the main drag. You park in the back & enter through the bar area. The bar area is dark wood and takes up the whole room. It is set up so that everyone faces in towards the bartenders. It is loud with stories being told and the tvs on. Perfect bar atmosphere. There is plenty of parking out back so no worries there. The AC works and the bathrooms are clean. Prices are typical of the shore area. We weren't greeted warmly but perhaps it was shift change or they were short staff or ? Regardless once we got seated things began to look up. The ambiance is shore boathouse bar type feel. The tables in the restaurant area are set nicely with white paper over a blue & white tablecloth with their logo stamped on the white paper. The menu has soup, salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, appetizers, seafood, etc. Something there for everyone. The wine list is large & there is a full bar. The server warmed up over time too. We enjoyed our meal there. The wedge salad was good. The salmon delicious as was the Cod Oreganata. The only truly disappointing food was the Arizona Chicken sandwich (so tough!) and their side of mashed potatoes. It is weird to find bad mashed potatoes but they exist. The Princeton Avenue salad with blue cheese, pecans, balsamic vinaigrette was tasty. All in all it is a nice place. I would go again read more

I came here after a long beach day with a group of 4, and we were all pretty hungry. There was a bunch of open seating both inside and outside, but we chose to sit inside. It was fairly clean which I appreciated. My group started off with the calamari as an appetizer. I ordered the the Garlicy Chicken and one of my other friends ordered the Margherita Pizza. The Garlicy chicken was a decent portion and taste, so no complaints there. There were lots of artichoke hearts which was great because I definitely needed to eat my veggies! As for the pizza, this was quite disappointing. The crust tasted like a flat and bland cracker. I love flat bread pizzas, but it was so dry and tasteless. I'd skip the pizza here. Since we're not from the area, we likely won't be coming back. If you're hungry though and are looking for a place to eat, this spot isn't terrible. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE on an extremely crowded St Patricks Day celebration. We had an excellent server but after giving her my credit card twice to pay our $40 bill, apparently she never processed it. We were given a receipt and left a cash tip. We gave up our table to the long line of waiting people ( we could have sat there an hour taken up space comfortably) but instead stood at the bar and patio area. An hour after we left friends and family reached out to tell me my picture was all over social media as running out on my bill. When I returned to settle the issue I was met with a hostile, rude and unapologetic owner. Was told to get out and never come back and my 63 year old partner was physically shoved and pushed out the door and down the front steps. If anyone witnessed this altercation please reach out as I'm sure the video footage has already disappeared. Shame on you Windward. ZERO customer service. read more

This you can say is a family friendly restaurant. Prices have certainly gone up since Covid. The food is somewhat decent and very eclectic. They also have a nice variety of craft beer. I have been here many times, but never wrote a review. One thing is for sure, you will be happy. Great bar area with friendly staff. The owner is present to make sure things run smoothly. Tables in the dining room have red and white checked tablecloths. Prices for beers, wines, and spirits are very reasonable. Pours are generous. Food is always good. Wings are terrific. Bleu Cheese dressing is excellent with chunks of Bleu. Burgers, fries are always enjoyable. Filet sliders top notch. Side salads were thoughtfully prepared, and the 1000 island dressing was excellent. Seafood fri diablo , my friend said, was the best he has had. Another friend had the chicken murphy. She loved it. I had the chicken franchise. It was very good. Egg and flour battered and with just enough lemon in the sauce. Fresh vegetables ( cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots) were steamed and perfect. First time here yesterday. Overall great experience from the moment we entered. Reminded us of Cheers. In fact as we entered Cliff the mailman was leaving. Coincidence? Think not. In addition when we parked in the lot, there were lots of cars. As a rule I take that to be a good predictor of the quality of the restaurant. We were greeted promptly and seated in dining room. Walking through the big bar we noted a busy and convivial atmosphere. The restaurant is very ascetically pleasing. The fireplace in the dining room added warmth as well. Our spunky server Lisa came over quickly. Warm greeting and efficient delivery of our wines. The wine list is adequately diverse to meet our needs without breaking the bank. I had a fresh garden salad with blue cheese which was on the mark. I had the chicken parm as my entree. Excellent but a large portion. I know what I am having for dinner tonight. My wife had a California BLT with excellent fries on the side. Likewise her entree was large in size. Overall we were very happy to have found this gem. Definitely on our " will be back " list. We enjoyed our wonderful sassy but excellent server. The pace of service was on the mark. The dining room filled up quickly after we were seated. Finally the restaurant provided great value for the money. Wines by the glass were priced reasonably. They also have a good selection of IPA beers. We left by walking through the bar and it was still very busy. If you like, they have lots of high tops in the bar area and serve the same menu. You Yelpers need relax and calm down a bit. Did you ever notice that a place, such as this one, can have fantastic reviews on FB, Google, etc., yet when you get to Yelp the great reviews drop off ? I read where one woman complained about the pizza crust, and another guy complained his beer wasn't filled to the top; REALLY? ?? This place is excellent, and I've been coming here since they opened. It's never a disappointment; the service, prices, and food are all fabulous. The owner has more perseverance than anyone I've ever met. He's dealt with so many obstacles and has risen above them all - - Hurricane Sandy, a closed nearby access bridge, the pandemic, staffing issues(which is country wide), etc. This is a tavern in Brick NJ, and it happens to be a very good one. They kept up with her outside dining and have live music on the weekends you can either sit outside for your dinner or they have a mobile bar outside to just have a beer and sit and listen to the music! I'll preface this with, this is a 3.5 star review, but half stars are verboten. We never had the chance to stop in here before but finally had the opportunity the other day. Our plan was to sit at the bar. The four of us couldn't fit so we grabbed a high top right next to the bar. We heard they had a decent happy hour but were not able to partake of it because the high top was excluded; too bad. Not the first place to do that. Our server was very friendly and efficient. I decided to get a bleu cheese burger with bacon (I forget their name for it). It was a very large plate with an enormous kaiser roll, lettuce and tomato, pickles, and fries. Plenty of food. Although the burger was good it came out more well done than I had ordered it. The fries were very good too. They also have a fairly decent craft tap list. To Mort Nase, the owner, you did the right thing to stand up for Ryan. You're a wonderful boss I'm sure, and I hope you keep getting the support of the community. To Ryan's mother, raising a child with autism is a difficult task. It can be nightmarish when people call you out for having a disabled child. It is very difficult to imagine what you must have felt, not being a parent, but as someone who has autism myself, I wholly sympathize. And to Ryan, dude, I know what you're going through. I've been there. As someone who grew up with other kids bullying me and making fun, I imagine you probably had your share of bad experiences. There is always a bright side though. You have a good mother and wonderful boss. You have a supportive work environment. Always believe in yourself, and don't let one Karen get you down. I work in retail, and I've dealt with my share of disapproving, even discriminatory customers. As long as you have people in your corner fighting for you, you are no different than any other employee. Always keep facing forward, and march toward the next sunrise. Hey look just rating their happy hour sitting at the bar here as Jan and have not yet eaten a full meal. They put out some decent happy hour food like pizza, sliced italic hero, and a pasta dish as well as the drinks that are very reasonably priced. The bar staff normally very efficient and somewhat friendly but once in a while a little indifferent and the ambience and general layout of the bar seem to work well. This has become a regular stop for us when dining in the area for a pre dinner libation. When you think about it there are not to many joints in the area to begin with and none that do things better than WT so give them a try... read more

Decided to try something new for Jersey shore restaurant week and after perusing menus decided on this neighborhood tavern. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the food. We tried the duck streusel and the wild boar sausage bites. Both were excellent and creative. We both had the filet mignonette wrapped in bacon. They were precisely made to the temperatures were requested, flavorful, and contained a surprise of being topped with Stilton cheese which counter balanced well the beefy flavor. Our was waitress was friendly, helpful and professional. The only negative we can say about this place is that perusing the regular menu, it is burgers pizza fries and steak etc, which I am sure is excellently prepared but didn't possess the same creative juice as the restaurant week menu. A solid local place, had a nice meal with great service by Cheryl! Place was lively and packed this thursday night, good thing we reserved a table for 12 for a coworker get together. Place is as local as you can get, lively but family friendly atmosphere. Our server Cheryl was awesome and for me really made the night. We had a big table and she was friendly and made us all feel welcome. At one point we were handing her finished plates and some sauce accidentally spilled on her shirt and she brushed it off with a smile like no big deal. It is something like that that makes me appreciate the service and makes a difference in the experience. Food was good, as good as you'd expect in a local tavern, and around us is good. They had Lawson's sip of sunshine IPA on tap! and voodoo ranger hazy on tap! so i got those, and they were poured perfectly for me. If only I could break up my review from waitress, food, host and owner. Arrived and there was a very long wait but that's ok it-Saturday night 6 that's to be expected. After a while I asked hostess about how many more tables ahead of us and that's when we noticed our name wasn't on the list even though we gave it in. Hostess then wrote our name on the side of list and said hold on I'll be right back. She comes back doesn't address us just ignores us. I let it go. The some time passes the OWNER! Then comes over and seats some people smaller group than our three. So now I'm looking at the list and he addresses me in a tone that is completely unprofessional and borderline aggressive. I tell him what the situation was he then says the hostess says we never put our name down. So when she came over we confronted her caught her in her lie. The owner then was completely out of line with how he spoke instead of saying sorry for the mistake. He huffed and puffed in annoyance. He did seat us at the next available table. This is what brought us here last evening. One person had Pear Salad, Chilean Sea Bass, and Pumpkin Cheesecake. Another had Bang Bang Calamari, Duck Confit, and Red Velvet Cake. Both were pleased with these meals for taste and value. But, one must remember that this is not the usual menu. We also had a bottle of Pinot Grigio for $28. Now, the third person in our party ordered from the regular menu - Scallops for $25. She was not very happy with her choice. Service was attentive and friendly by Lisa. The food is good but the bartender (female) has no clue how to pour a draft beer. Every beer I got, it was 3/4 full after the suds settled. For the price we are paying, at least provide a full beer. This has happened for the past three times we have been in there. I am not sure if anybody else has complained but I will voice my displeasure.
