They have a very uneducated, combative female bartender who will not make your drink unless she corrects you first: Incorrectly I may add. I have been here with multiple people on separate occasions where this person is trying to prove a point out of sheer insecurity and ego that it just comes off as unprofessional and laughable. This is the first time I've ever left a review in my lifetime; However, my patience has now been tested. She has corrected the way we have ordered our martinis on two separate occasions almost a year apart. We go to many high end places frequently: Charlie's, La Mondina, Ember & Eagle, Gabriella's, etc. We know the proper way to both order and make a martini (I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist). The first time, this girl insisted that a dirty martini is one that is made without olive juice and when I corrected her and explained a dirty martini is made with olive juice she subsequently said "No, that's actually a filthy martini." Lol. She was very ignorant and I let it go, as I did not want to ruin the night. Almost a year later, I ordered a martini "up" which many know that's the proper way to order a martini "straight up." She subsequently stops in her tracks and says "Do you mean 'straight up' ?" in a condescending tone. I know it seems petty, but she already had this previous faux pas with me and I don't deal well with stupid. This time, I felt the need to go back at her in which she still very ignorantly argued that she was correct. The entire exchange was laughable, pathetic, and screamed insecurity throughout the entirety of her pores. I understand she needs to pretend to be an expert in what she does, because that's all she probably has, but at least make sure you're correct first. I also witnessed her being abrasive and passive aggressive to other paying customers throughout the night. My observation is that she thinks no one notices the tone and innuendos she throws out, but she's pretty much basic and it's quite obvious. Anyway: Beware. She is rude, abrasive, and uneducated in what she's supposed to be doing. I'm not sure what bartending school passed her, but she should probably get retested. If you want to be treated like you're a moron (when you are correct) please make sure you go and sit at the bar. You can't miss her. She will be dripping with insecurity and wrath.

Bingo night ! Sat at the bar , had a few drinks and dinner and played free bingo. Doesn't get any better, does it ? Service was great , food was good , packed restaurant with basically everyone playing bingo. Wednesday 6:30-8:30

REALLY? It's supposed to be to be a Naruto Roll.

Well, extremely disappointed....my husband and I were happy to see that Sweeney's time came to an end and one of our favorite restaurants came to replace it. We usually go to MJ's in Baywood. Great view and the food is always on point. ( we love the fish sandwich special) Anyway, the MJ's in Brick has a long way to go. We gave it a second chance after our first visit went horribly wrong and let's say the second visit will probably be our last for this location. (which sucks because it is so close) we decided to order sushi and not sure if the "B" team sushi chef was working or the dish washer made our sushi. What a joke. The rolls were horrible but the worst one was the Naruto roll. ( Which is my favorite) It is supposed to be a sliced cucumber, usually done on a mandolin. It was done with a knife and pieces together. If you know - you know. Don't go!

Right now they have a tiki theme, however, that's it in my opinion as far as draw to keep going there. The drinks are an overpriced smoke screen for people who want to waste money on a sugary drink. And it goes along with the whole Asbury Park eclectic vibe but most of the drinks have a 5 or more ingredients I never heard of (which is fine) but it waters down the drink. I don't want to have a drink (or pay $15+ for a drink) that tastes like a fruity cup of juice. As far as the limited food suggestions on the menu- only 2 or 3- this is the third time we've been there and they said they were out of food -so then take it off your menu if you can't be consistent!!! We're not just going to keep drinking without anything to eat to go along with it. As far as the service it's inconsistent, when we sat down there was only two of us- The server was very nice but we waited too long for our drinks. A party of 7 came in about 1/2 hour after us and they had their drinks within 5 minutes- that should never be. After one drink we got the check and we left, we are completely scratching it off our list, we will not return there. It does bum me out because it has such potential and there's nothing like it around but I'm not going to visit an establishment where I walk away feeling it was a waste of money.

The private party room at the entrance is eye catching. Very friendly server and wait staff. Helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. Margaritas are a must. I personally recommend the jalapeño cucumber marg with a tajin rim. The flautas as an appetizer were perfect. Lightly fried and full of flavor, especially with the avocado ranch/crema dipping sauce. The shrimp ajillo (garlic) entree was right up my alley. Personally, I could've done with a bit of spice kick, but it was good all the same, and especially the cilantro lime rice that came with it. I'll definitely return, and probably with more friends!!!

For me, he ordered a chicken fajita's with grilled chicken since I'm not a fan of blackened chicken. I was so excited to get my fajita. Whenever I have Mexican food, I usually order Fajita's. I have been on the hunt the past 6 months to find the best place for fajita's. I have been to many places in Brick, Toms River & Lakewood. Most of them have been a disappointment. While I don't want to say Sofia's was a disappointment, I will say I was not impressed. My client loved his fajita. He was very happy with his meal and will most likely order again. My food on the other hand had very little flavor. Like I said, my client ordered the chicken grilled because I'm not a fan of blackened. The onions and peppers were horrible. They were barely cooked so they were crispy. I understand not wanting them to cook so they get mushy but they shouldn't be raw which is basically what I received. The flavor was minimal as well. It wasn't terrible but it was only slight. Not flavorful like you would expect a fajita to taste. I think Sofia's is a bit overpriced for what you receive. My meal was nothing to write home about. Needless to say, I'm still on the hunt for a good fajita. I do want to point out that the 2 girls in the front were awesome. They greeted me with a smile and were very helpful. They were also grateful for the small tip I gave them. I tipped them what I had in my wallet. Sofia's is just ok. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing stood out other than the 2 employee's that I interacted with that day. While I am not going to discourage anybody from trying Sofia's, I'm not going to encourage either. Maybe the cook had a bad day. Maybe they were busy and I didn't realize it. (It was only 4:30 in the afternoon when I picked our meal up so it was still early). I'm not sure I'll be going back for a 2nd try at Sofia's. Once I'm disappointed, I tend to not do it again but you never know. My client paid for my meal and I'm grateful for that. My client and his neighbor enjoyed their meals so I'm grateful for that as well.

The Matcha Matcha Man was smooth, creamy, and dangerously easy to drink -- the matcha coconut cream with the ginger beer gave it such a unique refreshing kick. The Lady Marmalade tasted like sunshine in a glass with the perfect citrusy balance and just enough sweetness from the marmalade. The food menu is definitely more small plates/appetizer style, but honestly everything tasted super fresh and packed with flavor. The coconut shrimp were jumbo and crispy with the perfect sweetness, the mango habanero chicken bites super fresh, and the wagyu sliders disappeared embarrassingly fast. The real star though? The outdoor lounge setup overlooking the ocean. Needless to say we ended up with some great photos at the end of the day. You're not going here though for the view. Sorry I had to. Anyways we only ate off the buffet menu that they had prepared. The selection was suprisingly minimal compared to others that I have been at but the price was less than those bigger ones. The quality of the food was 50/50 and the presentation of it was just the same. They had a really great potato dish with red peppers and onions. Wanted to put some ketchep on the side of that and for some reason that was only at another table in a completely different room. The salmon and the chicken were very well prepared but the eggs were not that great. Like I said you had a 50/50 chance of getting something that you were going to like. The dessert was about the same and there was enough choices that you were going to get something that you liked. The service was really what took this place down a notch. Which is strange because it's a buffet so it should be really hard to have bad service. The drinks that we ordered were a pain to get refilled and the plates were not getting taken from the table almost at all. We would have a bunch of empty glasses of water at the table and one of us would ask the server to fill it. She would come and fill that persons glass and walk away. So we realized that we had to tell the server to fill all the empty glasses. Problem was we had to keep doing this they wouldn't just do it. We had to ask each time. It's water it's free and I get that but to have to keep asking for a refill so weird. I wouldn't mind going to play a round at this place sometime and then try the regular sit down menu. Just don't know if this place was really that much of a stand out that I would go back. Would probably say worth a stop if your playing a round and in this area specifically.

Very cool that Venue 618 was the only NJ restaurant to make the recent Yelp Top 100 restaurants in the US. Sitting at the bar, we were served by Zoey, Steve, and Mike. They've re-done their cocktail menu to include beautiful color illustrations. I enjoyed "One in a Melon," a well-balanced whiskey cocktail with Frank August small batch bourbon, melon, poblano pepper, Aperol, and lime. This was followed by a tasty whiskey sour. My wife ordered a Lemon Drop martini, followed by a decadent chocolate-pistachio dessert martini. All of the cocktails were well-balanced and delicious. On the food side, I munched on a baked macaroni & cheese with chorizo. It was perfect! The Death of Hospitality brand thrives on personalization and unexpected surprises. Mixologist Steve, realizing that I'm a whiskey afficionado, surprised me with a small pour of Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel bourbon. This is a difficult bottle to find in New Jersey. Rock Hill Farms was incredible, with a super long finish. Thanks for the memories 618!
