Extremely friendly staff? Affordable $3-$5 clothing selections? $1 bin selection? Easily one of my favorite locations in Fishtown-- actually in Philly. I come here at least once a month. As an XS person, it is very hard to find decent clothes of this size in thrift stores, and I am very happy that this is not the case here! Clothing is organized by category and then by size. They also carry footwear and bags. And some accessories. I've found brands from Brandy Melville to Anthropologie. I prefer finding clothes here compared to Circle Thrift a bit further down as their styles, sizes, and quality are more appealing to me. (Though I love and frequent both.) Marsha and Tia are definitely one of the most personable peeps in Philly and brighten my day whenever I see them here. *They also have a front-store selection of more avant-garde and/or contemporary/vintage items at regular price. read more

Pretty cool place. Items ranged in price but overall cool experience. The only thing that bothered me was when my son went into the dressing room to try on clothes a store clerk was standing right there, next to the dressing room. They didn't ask if we needed assistance and but was acting as if they were hanging clothes, strange. But overall decent selection of items. read more

If you are going to demand that any bags of a certain size be left behind the counter with your staff, you need to devise a system of accountability for the possessions of your potential clients. "I'm the only one working" isn't an adequate promise of care. At the very least, set up a clothespin and playing card scenario like every other store that has a similar policy. *shrug* That's really all I have to say. read more

Had a chance to stop in today while in town. I read the reviews and definitely wanted to check it out. The store has a huge selection of clothing and handbags. It's a mix of new stuff for regular traditional store prices and used clothing. I was able to find a great black mini dress for $5. We were on a bit of a time crunch so I looked at the area of my highest interest first and then looked at other areas, as time allowed. Staff are friendly. Store is clean and organized. Love this place! I wish I had even more time to go through the clothes here. Love that there are fitting rooms also. Items are priced appropriately, nothing too outrageous. They have a decent selection of vintage goods here with some random contemporary stuff mixed in. I wasn't wowed by anything here and a lot of it looked like things I could buy at a regular thrift store but marked up 3 times the price. Also...they have these insane metal chairs in the dressing room. It stabbed the hell out of my knee while getting changed and that put me in an awful mood. It makes no sense to have a super tiny dressing room and then a death trap metal chair jammed in there. You are better off going to a thrift store and finding the items yourself then paying the super high prices here, unless you are looking for a very specific item. read more

Usually when two similar business establishments are right across from each other, its pretty easy to look at what makes them stand out for better or worse, and ultimately decide which one holds up for the better. Han Dynasty over Xian Cuisine, Vietnam Restaurant over Vietnam Palace, *I guess* Pat's over Geno's, and so forth. But while Circle Thrift (https://www.yelp.com/biz/circle-thrift-philadelphia) might be the better spot for the thrifty traditionalist, Urban Exchange also holds up for being a slightly more fashionable thrift store that was built on a good cause. When the owner became moved by a speech given by a woman who used expanded donation collection to help an impoverished village in Africa, She channeled it and her knowledge of fashion into to donate clothing and resources to individuals and organizations in need. When the movement grew past a certain point, she expanded her Urban Exchange Project into a thrift store where she could better supply clothing to the cause, and also raise money towards expanding it. And now the end result is a couple of higher end secondhand clothing store 95% of the products sold rarely go over $10. Ultimately Circle Thrift does usually have the selection of clothing that's a little more appealing to me; while also adding in the furniture, books, art, and other such things that UEP doesn't have, and also paying forward all of the good causes that Circle of Hope are involved with. But the dedicated thrifter can pull out plenty of good sports team shirts, shoes, and higher end fashions at UEP that you'll have a harder time finding at other thrift stores. Add in the good cause, friendly customer service, and Homer Simpson mannequin parked outside that always manages to brighten my day, and you have a solid store worth visiting. read more

Why would I purchase anything here if I can't try it on? Then if I purchase it and bring it home to try on I only have 2 days to bring it back for only store credit. Upstairs is very pricey for not being able to return. Downstairs makes sense. This place def shames people who don't know their size or is a little larger and needs to try on. read more

Love there basement ....everything $3 !an must say I love a kid friendly business an the fact that they did not turn my daughter away when needing to use the restroom so I did not have to cut my shopping trip short an I absolutely love that beacuse us mommy's don't get much of us time and some really enjoy them little shopping trips. I loveee this secondhand shop. Unlike Circle thrift, Urban Exchange is selective and creates a trendy atmosphere where you don't need to dig hard to find things you like. The upstairs is regularly priced while the downstairs has clothes for extremely cheap prices. I have found awesome finds in both areas for great prices. This is a great thrift shop where you can find trendy, cheap clothing. Circle thrift is right around the corner which is cheaper but they sell just about anything donated. Here, you can find high end discounted clothing or just cute clothes at a very affordable cost. My only issue is the changing rooms. They seem sloppily thrown together with cheap mirrors, no where to hang your items, and a curtain to keep privacy. Although the store is relatively new, they should definitely do something to fix that soon. That is only one issue though.. other than that it is a great find in the fishtown community! read more

I had no idea this thrift shop even existed. It is a block down the street from the Circle Thrift on your right hand side on the very corner if you are coming from the direction of Lehigh Avenue. The store is absolutely trendy and is well organized and well managed. The volunteer workers are very friendly and you can feel their energy and their passion for a good cause. The lighting, music and the way everything us displayed gave it a boutiquey kind of flair to it. I fell in live with a sexy leopard strappy dress which I am going to pair up with a black lace shrug to give it a classier look to it while giving it a sexy edge to it. However when I looked at the price tag it was $10.00.But after trying it on I couldn't resist and it was definitely worth the extra money. What i didn't know when I went to pay for the dress that the level below has a huge selection of clothes that ranges anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00. There is a great selection of clothing styles that range from chicky, classy, casual and everything in between. Whatever your style you are sure to walk out with at least something guaranteed. As I was finishing paying for my other purchases I was given bottled water for my two children and offered a cup of my choice of white wine and red wine my jaws nearly dropped for whatever their celebration was really about, maybe it was a Friday thing I don't know. I decided to savor the red wine until I got home I put the red wine down momentarily and my grand daughter happened to be walking by with my luck (a moment short lived) and knocked it down with only a squirt left of it which I am not ashamed to say that at least I got a taste if it at least. But over all this is the place to shop at and scavenge through the endless racks of clothing. On my way out the door I noticed a display of chokers for women that the owner of the shop hand makes as well reasonably priced at $6.00.
